[T-Mobile Variant] I guess were getting a security patch update every 2 months? - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Just updated my phone at work for a security patch and went from September to November that's cool I guess, I was kinda hoping for December but I guess we will skip December get January's in February

I personally don't understand all the hoopla over a security patch.. No offense, but I never had any phone of mine compromised, even if I did not have the latest patch.. I always look forward to the new Android OS or other updates that actually make improvements to the phone.. My phone go the Nov updated 2 weeks ago.. I never did understand why they wait to actually get these things out.. If it is so critical, they need to push it out when it actually comes out.

It's just peace of mind and they supposedly opened a new facility specific to updates, and also they are behind other companies, it's just them dropping the ball

I remember when I bought my Moto Z2 Force. Then first time I booted it up, I got 4 updates one right after the other April-August.. If these companies want to retain customers, then yes, they need to step up the game a bit...

I'm back on my Z2 and have already had an update. LG really does need to step it up.

I agree 100 percent. I personally do not plan on updating my phone, again, unless it is necessary, or pie drops.

Current security patch?

Hi,
New here and loving my 8 Pro
I was wondering what Android security patch do you guys/girls currently have? Mine (EU version) is 5th of April, anyone got a newer one?
The April security patch is still being deployed. My phone got it less than 2 weeks ago. I think that Google has a quarterly cycle so I don't think there is anything more recent than the April level (but I might be wrong)... in any case I don't expect Huawei to roll out another SW update yet while the current rollout isn't finished.

Actually Google releases patches update every month. OEMs are just lazy to give the monthly updates to users.

Uhmm no. Security patches have nothing to do with the UI. They are just "patches". Once Google uploads a new one, they can just patch the framework and necessary stuff, then roll it out with a small OTA.

i quite dont get it yet,
if it was that easy, why would brands take such a risk of getting a bad reputation for not providing security patches?

I don't know. That's the way they think. Look at the Nexus line. They always receive monthly updates because it's coming directly from Google.

not really true. recall reading an article that briefly explained the process, even security patch takes time for manufacturers to update -- need to go thru chipset manufacturer, and then to phone manufacturer and carriers... what i understand, not that much difference from the regular updates.
which is why Google is trying to make things easier in Nougat.
just sharing this link as well:

Hell Froze Over, UK Update Available.

Never thought i would see the day.
Its patched it to the May security release which seems a bit behind the times still.
I was as shocked as you were, creation date 6th June, personally wonder why they bothered considering update content.
Ray
Standby time seems to be very much improved, a 2% drop over night and that was it.
Can I apply the update with my device being rooted with magisk or do I need to uninstall magisk first? Saw somewhere people using flashfire but I am not sure if I need to apply it from there as I have twrp installed. Grabbed the update so will upload.

Oct 17 security update has new camera app too

There was a new security update for the Verizon version of the Moto E4 this week. It may have been released across the whole Moto E4 product line.
Besides securing the phone from the Blueborne Bluetooth weakness, the update also updated the camera app.
I was pleasantly surprised with both.
Does anyone know if the camera is performing any better in low light? The camera has been one of the few big weaknesses of this great cheap phone.
My Boost Mobile Moto E4 has received a whopping ZERO updates. It's still sitting on the May security patch... Hopefully we actually receive the update at some point.

Waiting and hoping... The story of Android.
The kicker, I have a LG Stylo 2, that was updated to the September security patch a couple of weeks ago, in fact LG has supported that phone consistently throughout the years. Sad to see Motorola, who builds basically a AOSP phone, unable to provide updates in any sort of consistent manner. I like Android, but that's way I switched over to iPhone... Timely Support.

There is a huge difference between the two. $800+ on a Pixel and only 2 years of support, spend $800+ on an iPhone and 4+ years of support.
I can't afford to spend large amounts of money every couple of years to play catch up.

Not here to debate Android vs iOS. If that's what you're looking for, ...
You'll find it somewhere. Just saying you were comparing this phone to big A's pride and joy. Not fair. Enough OT. Moving on.
P.S. I come TO flash ROMs, it's XDA.

XZ1 didn't receive the July security update

Hey!
I know it's not the first time that our device doesn't receive the monthly security update, but since the device is almost two years old and I always felt like the XZ1 was "forgotten" by Sony, do you think it was intentional and we won't receive any more security updates?

It does not matter what we think.
What matters is that the device is old, Sony has had bad sales recently and they have cut personnel.
But also, XZ1, XZ1 Compact and XZ Premium have had updates at the same time usually. So all of them are out of business.
For me personally it is not loss - banking apps work, phone works, everything works. This is anyway a device that I carry with for occasions that I need it. It is not a device for spending some fun time.

what happened with OnePlus ?

I don't know what is OnePlus doing.. I'm using OnePlus 7t still running on November security patch
Previously I used OnePlus 6.in that time op6 gets every month security patches and updates without any delay..I'm so happy with OnePlus software updates and security patches.. that's why i upgrade my phone to 7t..now everything upside down no regular updates or security patches..(it's not a OnePlus issue but i have to say custom rom development's and community are not active for this device) I expected so much from OnePlus..when i upgraded.. sadly I'm disappointed
If guy's know anything about this updates delays please comment..

Yes, I'm super disappointed too.
Yet, oneplus is doing bimonthly updates, and they've been clear about this.
That means update every two months.
For some stupid reason they release one security update late. Last update was 13 December (with the Nov security patch). That means that in approx two days they will release an update if they are on schedule. (Except the Corona situation might delay things)
Now since they release last month's security updates with every update our phone will be brought up to January security update next time.
That's keeping with their promise and the two monthly release.
Considering even Samsung the notoriously bad update king manages to push out recent security updates every month there's understandable reason to be disappointed. Although we are the ones who made assumptions about updates, so I guess we can only blame ourselves ?
They're wary of the virus spread right now in China. So work and other stuff are either halted or limited.

They're all under BBK electronics yes. (Oppo, Vivo, Realme and Oneplus) but they're seperated into different teams/offices especially OnePlus with it's OxygenOS. So people from Realme can work I think but people from OnePlus can't. It depends on where they are and their worling environment. Just wait. It'll soon be there and development on custom scene shall be A-okay okce twrp gets sorted out.

Delaying this update for Corona virus is understandable, and first thing important is the employees health.
But let's not just pretend this is one time thing. OnePlus always does this, always releases an update at the end of the month with previous months patch set and never really stay on track.
In my opinion, this is where OnePlus has fallen behind, and I think it's because they release too many phones to keep track of.
Oh FFS........ China is under siege from a deadly virus and people are dying right now. Because of the virus large numbers of Chinese did not return to work after their New Year,
factories are shut or are shutting and this is already having an impact for the tech industries around the world and people here are moaning about updates as if their devices will explode if they don't get updated right now. GET REAL !!
Is this really what XDA is these days?

You should try visiting the OnePlus forum. I think every second or third post is someone whining about the security update being late.
Aside from being disgusted by the colossal self-centeredness of so many people *****ing about a damned phone update while people in the phone's country of origin are literally dying, I can't help but wonder WTF these people are doing with their phones to make them that paranoid.
