Root possibility on pie ? - Nokia 7.1 Guides, News, & Discussion

I was wondering is it possible to root this phone on pie or oreo ? It is a nice phone but i hate the ads and memory management doesn't look nice on pie.

Rooting is possible. I am working on it but should be straightforward as usual.
1. Unlock bootloader (there is a tricky procedure involving Nokia authorization code and download of a customized APK)
2. Flash TWRP. I am looking into "running" TWRP like I do on Nexus-es/Pixel-s
3. Flash Magisk.zip via TWRP

Flash CM13. I am lost

Hi Guys,
I feel completely lost with all the guides to flash my ZE551ML.
- Root (I counted 3 ways to it)
- Unlock the bootloader
- Install recovery (So much alternatives)
- And Finally the CM13 Rom
In some guides, there are files from April or June 2015.
I already flashed Android Devices but with the Zenfone 2 I feel anxious about all the doc around.
The way you root and the recovery you install will affecte the CM13
Is there a clear up to date step by step that tell what to do not options I can have?
Thanks
Step 1. Unlock the bootloader.
Step 2. Flash the TWRP recovery 2.8.7.0
Step 3. Download and insert CM 13 and gapps pico 6.0 x86 in your internal/sd card.
Step 4. Boot into recovery using Vol buttons + Power.
Step 5. Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, system.
Step 6. Flash CM 13, and then gapps from your internal/sd card.
Step 7. Reboot system.

Thanks man,
It is more about the files to use :
To Unlock the bootloader (img file, driver and adb tools)
I see that from your steps there no need to root?
I downlaoded those files : from mega /#F!k4MHiAgL!dVuOKeH3eokcwPSNI79ffw!pkVXnYLK (And they are to root only if I am not wrong)

What is your device? ZE 550 ML or 551 ML. There are official apks available on asus website for both models. Download them and install them.
Bad idea using the official unlocker it is still giving errors, I would do more research here before using the official unlocker

I Have the 551 ML Variant.
Indeed, I read here in one Thread to avoid official unlocker and this is what is causing headaches. To Many info so at the end you learn nothing.
So what do you recommend as method and with what files?
Thanks.
To unlock the bootloader through the unofficial way, your firmware has to be 2.19.40.20. If your firmware is newer than this, then you'll need to downgrade. If not, you just need to upgrade.
1. Downgrade to 2.19.40.20: http://www.asus.com/zentalk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=12528 (before downloading the firmware, check if your device is CN or WW)
You'll need to downgrade both the firmware and recovery to the same version, which is 2.19.40.20.
2. Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/zenfone-2-root-easy-t3114003
3. Unlock bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/congrats-to-bootlocker-unlocked-t3138547
4. Flash custom recovery (I chose TWRP): https://twrp.me/devices/asuszenfone2.html
Download the twrp-2.8.7.2-Z00A.img image and follow the steps under "Fastboot Install Method (No Root Required)" to flash it.
This is how I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the TWRP custom recovery on my Zenfone 2. If you follow each step as described, you'll be fine. I don't know if there's already another easier way to do these things, but this is what I followed and worked flawlessy.
Also, there is a tool called WinDroid that promisses to do all this a lot easier, BUT I haven't tested it myself, so I can't say if it really works or not: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zen...l-windroid-universal-android-toolkit-t3206907

Thanks buddy,
You saved my asses because I was going to start the install and I have WW_2.20.40.156
I prefer to wait the official cyanogen release or tools working with my actual rom version.
Too Risky and Too many factors
Thanks again
The other option is to use windroid tool which has worked well to unlock the bootloader and you can also install twrp with it

Root H815 on MM 6.0 V20d?

Hi guys ☺,
I bought today G4 eu model,it came with Marshmallow 6.0 V20d version.
I want to root it because of Greenify and Xposed,to increase the battery time, maybe later to flash some rom but...
There is a lot of topics on this subject,I started to read but I'm lost right now...as far as I saw,I can't root Marshmallow without unlocking the bootloader, only Lollipop, right?
Is it a big trouble to go back from MM to LP?
I'm not new in this flashing and rooting stuff,I had (still have) a Motorola Razr XT910,I flashed it 100 times for sure for 3.5 years but I didn't had to unlock the bootloader (it's impossible anyway) and there's a custom recovery Safestrap, modified Twrp which allows to flash and use 6 different roms, from JB to MM,without changing the kernel...
I will be grateful if someone can point me in the right direction,to give me some useful links etc.
And is there some list which procesess are safe to freeze with TB and which ones I can greenify?
Oh,and the bloatware too...
Sorry if I'm demanding but I want to bring out the best from this phone
Thank you in advance

Hi,
root without unlocking bootloader works only on lollipop, right. Not sure if u can downgrade, but when, u will use "LGUP" tool with the "H81510D.kdz" file. Maybe there exists a pre-rooted kdz to flash.
If u want to root android 6, u need a unlocked bootloader. Rooted Android 5.1.1 or unlock bootloader with rooted android 6.x.x
Ok,I successfully unlocked the bootloader but now I'm stuck with rooting and installing Twrp...
I've downloaded BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247 and TWRP-3.0.0.0-H815+ but there's a lot of metods,which one should I use?
Flash SuperSu+Twrp with stock recovery?
Install Twrp with adb command and then flash SuperSu with Twrp?
Install both with adb command?
I also saw somewhere that I must flash some other kernel that is already rooted...
I just need root and the Xposed for now, help me guys!
Im also Confused..Where can i find rooted kernel?
I already did this Method u said...But I got Boot Loop
Then I revover my phone with Lg Bridge
We need to find this.....I also Had Android MM with V20d

In my case I wasn't able to flash recovery on the stock kernel, I had to flash boot.img unpacked from the custom kernel like SimpleGX and only then I was able to flash recovery and full kernel through it.

the method i followed was-
1. boot into twrp recovery with adb command(you need to have the twrp.img file in PC and also copy it in internal memory of your phone with SU)
2. flash systemless root with twrp
3. reboot
4. install flashify
5.flash twrp.img from your phone.
6. done
but there aren't as much benefits of rooting as any other phone. viper4android doesn't work. spirit fm doesn't work. xposed doesn't work properly.(these 3 were the main reasons for which i rooted)

I didn't know i could flash something other than .zip files with twrp.
As for viper4android i tried normal way, flashed it with twrp, flashed extreme music mod with v4a fix. None seem to work. The drivers never get installed.
Xposed i haven't tried. I was in process of getting more information about it by reading various threads. But all seem to point to problems like bootloop, fc and Bluetooth issues. Can you guide me towards the best version of xposed for v20d with way to avoid problems or with as less problems as possible?

I think doesn't need to install recovery to root the phone.
Just this:
1) adb reboot bootloader
2) fastboot boot TWRP-2-8.7.0-h815.img
Wait a second and it will open, on the phone, the recovery.
Once open go to Advanced -> ADB sideload and take a swipe to start it where it says "Swipe to Start sideload".
Now on the PC write
3) adb sideload BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247.zip
( If it says after the instalation to install supersu etc just abort it)
And then, when installation is complete, press "Reboot System"
I rooted it this way, without install TWRP Recovery

Yeah - but the question has to be asked - why unlock the bootloader and root and not install TWRP? If you've got as far as unlocking the bootloader you might as well make life easier for yourself and install TWRP - that way anything you want to flash in the future can be done without being tethered to the PC, and also allows you to take proper full system image backups etc.

Of course , i agree with you. By the way, we can't root g4 on m6 without unlocked bootloader.
And finally, i decided to pass twrp on my phone, for every file i want to install from twrp, and not every time to boot from pc
You're right
p.s. the first thing i did after twrp installed, was to install g5 live wallpapers

My phone's lost rooting.

Hi everyone, this is my first post
This winter I had decided to install the GCam on my Mi A2 lite, so I followed a guide (I'm not able to mod any phone) I managed to install the cam. To install that I obv needed to root my phone and indeed on Root Checker that was rooted. Some months later, the phone was automaticatly updated and after that I don't know how that lost his rooting and the possibilty to use Gcam (and other apps). I didn't want to do all the process again so I let that go.
Now I'd like to install the Pixel Experience ROM on my Xiaomi tho, but I read that I need to have root permission and the bootloader unlocked. My bootloader is already uncloked, because in developer's option, under "Unlock OEM" is written. "the bootloader's already unlocked."), but I have no root permission. I don't know what to do, because as I said I'm totally ignorant.
Can I install a custom recovery without root permission? How can I install the Pixel Rom? I need to root again my phone?
Thank you all for you help!

You need for sure an unlocked bootloader but regarding root although you don´t need it to flash a custom recovery nor a custom rom probably is better that you have it so you might need to do other things like install mods that need root.
Just flashing the Magisk you´ll recover the lost root status again but if you don´t have recovery now just boot on it through fastboot and then flash it over your actual rom or if you want the Pixel rom just follow the tutorial posted in the thread.

Yes, you need a custom recovery like TWRP and regarding tutorial there is a how-to-install method on every custom rom and also in the thread of a Pixel rom https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/development/rom-pixel-experience-t3911489 they´re just some few steps

Oh sorry since I don´t use PE rom nevermind there is not a tutorial there but you will find one here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi...0-ressurection-remix-os-xiaomi-mi-a2-t3954197 it´s the same process (more or less) for any custom rom.
If you are on a custom rom just booting using advanced power reboot you can go to recovery to see if it still stays there, also you can go manually using key combination (vol up + pwr from a device off) and you have too adb reboot recovery command to boot on it.

How to successfully update from Android 9 with TWRP, Root (magisk) to Android 10?

Hello!
so I read all the threads regarding android 10 and mi a2 lite but i didn't find a proper solution or guide for the following problem:
I am on Stock Android 9 with unlocked bootloader, TWRP and Magisk Root.
Now i want to update to the v.11.0.4.0 Android 10 Update, but i want to keep root working!
Is there a way to do this?
If yes, please tell me how (i'm not a pro in flashing, so please explain in detail )
EDIT: i dont mind if i loose TWRP, i just want to keep root and android 10 working
thanks in advance!
stay safe and stay home

Yes. It's complex because of TWRP.

Thanks for the answer, i already saw this thread but as I already said I'm not a big Expert in this topic, so that guide in the thread is too complex and short for me (and for other most likely too...)
Maybe you can explain it more precisly to us?
I would be very greatful for this!
Or if you know a way too archieve what i want but loose twrp and data... I wouldn't mind. I dont Need twrp and my Phone is New... So
Thanks in advance!

You can't do it simpler. Mostly because you've got to get back to stock for the OTA.
You can do it different. Get the fastboot. Flash that (don't erase userdata). Then install Magisk and TWRP again.
Not every release gets a fastboot but 11.0.4.0 did so you have this option.
Can you explain this more for me pls?
- What exact files do I need?
- what exactly should i do with these files? (flash with terminal, TWRP, Slot A, Slot B, etc.....)
- is it relevant which version of Android 9 i have?
you would help me alot, if you explain it in detail so that i can do it.
I already tried in android 10 unlocking bootloader and flashed the "disable force encryption" but got stuck on booting screen.
Pls tell me how exactly i should do what, and i will post my results
Thanks !

Alex

Hello,
I just updated from Android 9 stock ROM, to Android 10 with a custom ROM.
I followed this two YouTube guides from the same user:
How to root and install TWRP:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy9Z_NN_7Tg&list=LLm7cWm_1QXORlLa5XeTETUw&index=12&t=365s
How to install custom ROM(In my case I installed Evolution X with Android 10 following these steps):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0pcmA_ew-Y&list=LLm7cWm_1QXORlLa5XeTETUw&index=13&t=173s
**Advise**
- Use the same files and versions that he uses, If you use/do something different, you are going to have some problems.
What I'm currently running on my Mi A2 Lite:
- Evolution X ROM(Android 10) -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/development/rom-evolution-x-3-3-t4014685
- Nitrogen Kernel r3 -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/development/r1-nitrogen-kernel-mi-a2-lite-t4011019
Everything has been very stable at the moment(1 week and lots of gaming and restarts and tests), so I feel fine sharing this.
Best,
delokt

Install instructions in that thread. TL;DR Run the flash_all_keeping_userdata script to upgrade to the version you downloaded. 11.0.4.0 is what you want.
You have Magisk and TWRP. Install them the same way you did before. Go read their threads if you forgot or use the last part of my guide.
Hello Friends, i have good news, i successfully updated my Phone to android 10 and keep TWRP and magisk!
I did the following steps:
- clean install of fastbood v.11.0.4. Android 10 via Mi-Flashtool
- powershell adb: fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-dees_troy-daisy.img
- TWRP should open on Mi a2 lite. go to advanced and activate adb sideload
- powershell: adb sideload twrp-installer-3.3.1-dees_troy-daisy.zip
TWRP should now be installed.
Then i tried a reboot system and got into the welcome screen, so it booted.
What i did next is, the magisk v20.4 zip file move to sd card or internal storage of the device and flash it trough TWRP.
DONE!
now your phone should reboot to system. It now has Android 10 and magisk installed and working!
Hope i can help someone else with this.
Files are on my google drive: https://drive.google.com/open?id=19eg3N9bSliVh40T8atnp4rJiIKPjob0j
Best Regards

Is there a root method for Android 9?

I can't update to Android 10 as I don't have an ATT Sim and the guide posted here requires 10. Is there any method to root a g8 on Android 9?
There are a few different root methods for Android 9, but we recommend the Magisk method. This method is relatively simple and should work on most devices.
Before you begin, you'll need to unlock your bootloader. This will void your warranty, so make sure you understand the risks before proceeding. Once your bootloader is unlocked, you can follow these steps to root your device:
1. Download the latest version of Magisk from the official website.
2. Boot your device into recovery mode. This will usually involve holding down a combination of buttons while your device boots up.
3. In recovery mode, select "Install" and choose the Magisk ZIP file that you downloaded.
4. Swipe to confirm the installation and then reboot your device.
5. You should now have root access!
Keep in mind that this process will likely wipe your data, so make sure to back up anything important before proceeding.
