What text app for group threads - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

I'm running stock Oreo 8.0.0 on Samsung S9 using the bundled texting app.
When I receive group texts from an iPhone user, I only see myself as a recipient; the other recipients aren't listed.
Also when I reply to what I happen to know is a group text, my reply only goes to the sender rather than to the group members.
Is there a setting I'm missing or do I need to use a different text messaging app?

I use the default messaging app on my stock S9 (VZW) and I don't have this problem. Half my family use Android-based phones and the others use iPhones. Our group conversation work just fine. However, all of the group conversation I am involved in include people already in my contacts. I'm wondering if your missing recipients is related to who is in your contacts?

Nope, the problem shows up even with those in my contact list.
Maybe I'll try a random texting app and see what happens.

Other apps exhibit the same problem. Anyone have any insight into this problem?

Group texting question.

So I have a little trouble with text messaging I cannot seem to resolve. When i send out a text message to a group of people, each the recipients cannot see the others on the list that i sent it to. The only see it as me sending it only to them, therefore there is no reply all.
This is getting on my nerves....anyone have a fix for this?
TIA!

Use GoSMS or Handcent, the stock app doesn't group messaging with MMS. Alternatively, flash AOSP based ROM and the stock app has it built in.

Its a mix....but its doesnt seem to matter. All of them tell me that it all of my texts come to them with their name as the only recipient.
Moreover, I've tried GoSMS....same deal with that.
That's how SMS works. It's not like messenger or group chat. When you send it to multiple people, what your phone does is sends that same message to each of the recipients individually, as if you were just sending it to one person. In short, you're out of luck.
If you're open to spend a little time to fix this annoying problem (I had it, too, trying to group-text between iPhones, Androids, and Windows phones), use GroupMe.
https://groupme.com/
Creates a new number which you all text to and it relays messages: works with anyone phone with SMS. If you want to send pictures, you'll need to use the app.

After I installed CM10.1, it works. The native text app in that does exactly what it should!

[Q] Stock Google Messaging App and iPhone Group Messages

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not sure if this is a ROM issue or a general issue so I'm posting in both locations to get more coverage.
I've been running Newt's GPE ROM for a while now with very few problems and am very satisfied. However, today I received what I believe is a group message from several iPhones that my friends own. Only one of the messages actually got through, the rest just show delivery reports and empty messages. I am able to get messages from single iPhones and am also fairly sure I can do group messaging with several other android devices.
I'm using the Google default messaging app, and have allowed group message SMS. Any insight as to what is going on?

Where is group messaging???

This feels like such a noob question but I'm at a loss. I know group messaging has been baked into the latest release but it doesn't seem to be working right.
I have the group messaging option turned on in my settings and I can send a group text just fine. But when I receive a group message it looks like a normal text message. I can't see who the other recipients are and so I can't respond to anyone but the person who sent that text.
I've noticed the same thing on several different S3 phones running 4.3 so I feel like either I am doing something wrong or "group messaging" doesn't work the way I expect it to. Are we only able to send group texts but not receive them? What gives?
Thanks.

I have the Verizon version of the S3, so I'm not sure if they behave the same. I went into my messing app, hit the menu to get settings and have the option for "Group Conversations" "Send messages as group conversations by default" checked...mine works just fine. When I get a group text, I have an option to switch it from MMS to SMS and have it be an individual text.

Stock text messaging app bug found

For the past week I have had issues trying to send my sister a text message. It has come to my attention that when I sent her a text message it for some reason gets sent to my nephew who participated in a separate text message that consisted of more than one party; In other words a group text message.
I have found LG Mobile on Facebook and informed them of this:
I solved the issue with the text messaging application bug. It is a bug in fact.
When the LG G5 has multiple group text messages with individuals, who you also try to have an individual text message conversation with, the phone will default a newly-created non-group message back to a/or one of the many group text messages that already exists with the person or other persons you're trying or NOT trying to communicate with individually.. I had to delete all group messages with the other party and then the phone stopped sending individual messages to a group message that they previously belonged to. This needs to be reported to your LG or Google development team as soon as possible. I am quite sure other people will have the same issue.
Interesting. I dont send alot of group messages from the G5. I will keep my eye on this.
BTW, while you have them fixing that...tell them to re-add the ability to have individual themes in our stock message app. I like having different backgorunds per contact
Any update on this ?
HAs anyone had the issue where contact names don't show in messaging, only numbers? I've had the phone almost 2 weeks and it's happened several times.

Nope. Mine still crashes now and then. Especially after using the voice to text feature.
Who knows maybe I have a bad LG keyboard system app. I'm going to root my phone soon and consequently have to reflash an entire rooted ROM so hopefully the new rooted ROM will have a better version will see.
UPDATE
My wife and I both updated our G5s to ROM v10d and so far the keyboard crashing has disappeared.

weird issue with texting apps

Okay, so it's been awhile since I had a new android phone but...I seem to have a weird problem with texting.
I've imported the contact list into the phone; whenever I text someone, their name shows up correctly. However, when they reply, it creates another thread from the same user. The same applies to group chats as well. I've attached a screenshot for clarity.
For example, if I text John Doe, it will create a thread for John Doe. If he replies, it will create another thread from John Doe. So my messaging app will show:
John Doe
John Doe
And if I create a group message, each time someone replies it will create a different thread. So it will look like:
Group Message
Group Message
Group Message
Group Message
John Doe
John Doe
I've tried a few different messaging apps (stock messaging app, QKSMS, silence), all the same thing. I'm running Hydrogen OS for now; not sure if it's a ROM issue or an app issue. It's not so bad if I'm just texting one user, because if I respond to their thread I can continue on with the conversation and it won't create a new thread. But group conversations are a pain. Any ideas?

It might be a problem about country code and your carrier. For international carriers, they might add country codes in front of the messages when you receive them. When you are texting though, country codes might be unnecessary and not added. Thus it will be the same person with two numbers, one with the country code and one without.
Try adding country codes to all your contacts, after that your new texts should be under the same thread. I'm not sure about group chats though, I never used texts for group chats...

That's a very good idea, but I had tried that and it didn't work. In fact it made it worse because then the texting app didn't recognize the phone number as a contact anymore.
