Keweon DoH mod - Google Pixel XL Themes, Apps, and Mods

Has anyone else tried this mod? It's more than just an ad blocker. My carrier is Google Fi using a VPN with T-Mobile and my download speeds have gone from 3MBPS to over 100 using this mod. Seems pretty legit, all credit goes to MrT69.
Here's the post/guide for mod!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/keweon-privacy-online-security-t3681139
The mod doesn't really start working until you download this app and turn it on, at least in my experience.

So grab the app from the play store DNS Changer IPV6
Then grab and install this certificate, the link will auto start the download:
http://pki.keweon.center
Then go to magisk and install the systemless keweon module.
Once installed you use terminal emulator to choose your DNS then reboot. From there you eneter the DNS you choose into the DNS Changer app and activate it. All done heres a link to get the magisk module and using it:
https://forum-xda--developers-com.c...rivacy-online-security-t3681139/page37/page37
If you wish to use this with your router the steps become more complicated

Let me know if you need further instruction

Thanks very much for your help in the last response, and yes...hate to be a bother, but I could use a bit more advice.
I installed the certificate, and I installed the Magisk module. Where I'm having issues is with adding the DNS's.
What I did:
With terminal emulator - setprop net.dns1 213.239.207.143 and setprop net.dns2 107.191.55.215.
In DNS Changer app, I set those 2 DNS's as DNS 1 and 2 under "Configure Ipv4", and under Ipv6 I put 213.239.207.143
and 107.191.55.215.
When I hit "Start" it brings up "Change Request" window, but hitting "ok" does nothing. I can only cancel". I'm guessing that I've done something wrong.
Sorry, I'm not ordinarily THIS stupid...

No, it isn't activated/started. And if I try, it won't let me hit "ok". And when I exit out of the app, that activation box pops up once in a while, and I have to hit cancel to get rid of it.
I just wanted to check that what I did in terminal emulator was correct, and the settings I did in the app itself.

When you install keweon it comes with terminal commands and you simply follow those then reboot and set you dns

Yeah, after our last exchange I noticed that. I ran that script and rebooted, but still no go. Have tried a different DNS changers app too, and get the same result. The dialog that comes up (that won't let me select ok, only "cancel") is the same for both apps, so I'm thinking it must be from the OS and not the apps themselves.
I'm lost. I give up.
EDIT: I figured it out. It was the "Smart Pixels" that I had on that was interfering and preventing me from hitting "ok". DUH. All sorted now. Thanks!

[APP] AWESOME App for Wifi Tethering - Open Garden Wifi Tethering

i tested out all the wifi tethering apps and this one was by FAR the best. Fastest speeds. Easily allows 4g tethering. compared to barnacle, wifi tether, and wireless tether, and its Noticeably faster. I only tried it cuz I couldn't get the sprint hotspot hack on my ROM. So if you're in this group, or even not (speeds are very very comparable, if not faster, than sprint hotspot), TRY IT OUT!
NOTICE::: Requires GPS Permission, so USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!! see posts below, including mine - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17571902&postcount=30.

Yeah I like this better then wifi tether, but they used the exact same layout as wifi tether, lol, thanks open source
I like this one as well, becuase my ipod can connect to it.
it is basically the same layout as wifi tether and a few others..but it doesnt need to activate sprint hotspot. whenever it did that for me i had serious issues. plus this one gives faster speeds

i think EH17 broke this app, i couldn't get it to broadcast a wifi connection and there is some text that comes up about a missing file in /data/.../ when i reinstalled.
It did that for me a few times, too, but when I re-launched the app*, it worked.
*relaunched as in, immediately after it gave me the error and closed; if you're using the Hurricane ROM, you should also download Root Checker from the Market - for some reason, even though BusyBox was supposed to be installed, it wasn't and I had to download a separate installer to make it all work.
Why does this app require permission to fine gps location?
Will try it. Hope it works better than wifi tether. Had it crash on me this weekend while power was out and totally destroyed my rom, not even restoring a back up would stop the force closes, also had journaling enabled.

Just used apktool and ran diff -ur -I '^ \.line [0-9]*$' wireless_tether_2_0_7/smali/ og.android.tether/smali/.
Now I'm pissed off.
A This is clearly based on wireless tether 2.x. This is a GPL violation, as they do not provide source code. How is opengarden different? There is code pertaining to wakelock handling, and:
B Functions that collect your GPS location and device id. I've browsed through their site, and they (claim) to have a plan to create a free public mesh network, but:
C They fail to mention this in the market description, or the app itself.
Since this modified GPL app, I am perfectly within my rights to modify the app, so I have removed all code pertaining to stats collection (as well as the FINE_LOCATION permission), and am posting this fork here, on the assumption that the wakelock handling makes this thing worthwhile.
Enjoy.
Has anyone tested this on a GB rom?

[SOLVED] Safe access to public wifi's?

Hi, soon i'm going to a vacation and would like to know what to use to access public wifi networks securely to avoid my personal data interception and generally be secure while browsing?
Thanks
VPN.
Google superfreevpn, but you will have the check what is the password before you use their VPN, because they change the password every now and then.
Pressed from my Maguro
Issues I see with superfreevpn:
-Uses PPTP (PPTP a history of insecurities)
-Restricts bandwidth
-Restricts use (no P2P, no torrents)
-8 hour time limit per session
-No idea who these guys are (no guarantee they aren't stealing your info themselves)
As an alternative, you could set up your own OpenVPN server at home. Most home routers can do this easily when using firmware such as OpenWRT, DD-WRT or Tomato, or you can set it up on a computer behind your router. Then you have a secure connection back to your own ISP, so you will have at least the same level of security/privacy you have at home. This is what I do, using OpenVPN for Android on my phone which uses the new VPN APIs introduced in ICS.
Hope this helps.
Hmmm, this seem to be a better option.:good:
Another alternative is to use Orbot from Google Play store, which implements Tor on Android.
Thanks guys, especially @phazerorg.
Umm while i understand the process of VPN you're talking about, what about data which is first sent to/through public WiFi AP?
WIll look into OpenVPN.
Do you have an article or link for me to get more in depth?
Thanks once again.

If you mean before the VPN tunnel is established, it's true that some connections could be made. I think the best you could do here is to either turn off syncing and don't browse before the VPN is up, or make sure any syncing/browsing uses SSL. A little Google searching seems to indicate that the gmail app uses SSL, so no worries for that. For other apps, you'd want to investigate. Or shut off all syncing so pretty much no connections are made before you connect to your VPN. Once the VPN is up, you can have all traffic travel through it and it just looks like UDP packets of random data to the public wifi.
WIll look into OpenVPN.

Nothing specific, but searching Google for "OpenVPN tutorial" turned up quite a number of useful-looking results, including some from the official OpenVPN site. I know there's a GUI app for Windows, and router firmware makes it easy. OpenVPN is popular and open source, so there's loads of resources and a community around it so you shouldn't have any trouble.
You can allways use opera mini as everythding goes through their servers. I would not trust free vpns as its like using a free access point. Who's to say they arnt looking at your data

Once a VPN circuit is established, all data is encrypted between your device and the server. No one in the WiFi hotspot could read your data, even if they intercepted it. Neither could the WiFi hotspot operators.
The same is true of Tor, with the added benefit that the Tor node operators can't read your data, either, with the exception of the exit node. But the exit node operator can't tell who sent the data, because the packet headers have been stripped and replaced (several times).

I had issues with OpenVPN. I ended up setting up a linux server with IPSec instead. I just use the built-in VPN connectivity (L2TP/IPSec PSK, to be precise) to connect to my home server.

While TOR might be (arguably) great for "anonymizing", it does nothing for encryption. You can sniff packets from someone using TOR as simply as someone using a direct connection.
Edit: Actually, I need to look into TOR a bit more. Does anyone know for certain if it's endpoint-to-endpoint encrypted? The Orbot Play Store page says nothing about encryption, but rather only mentions the proxy chain effect, which would make my original statement correct.

Again, this doesn't encrypt data, which means anyone in the vicinity can fairly easily sniff packets from you and plainly see your data flowing. Even worse would be people who have their own mobile access point, de-auth you from the public wifi, and then spoof the public wifi. It's actually fairly easy to do.
Tor is encrypted from your device to the exit node.

hmm, TOR seems to be working fine in terms of ease of use and configuration. If everything is indeed encrypted than it's ideal solution for me.
Anyone else has an opinion?

If the path is encrypted endpoint-to-endpoint, such as it would be in a VPN (or apparently with TOR... thanks for the info, strumcat, as I assume that applies to Orbot also), then a man-in-the-middle gets nothing. If someone gets between you and the wifi node, they would only see the encrypted gibberish.
that being said, TOR (Orbot) it is.
Thanks all!

Yes, Tor is the name of the network itself. Tor Browser Bundle (for Windows) and Orbot (for Android) are provided by the Tor Project and the Guardian Project for accessing Tor. They both utilize Tor encryption and other features, You can always check to make sure that Tor is working by browsing to http://check.torproject.org site.
If you're using Jellybean and want to use the transparent proxying feature in Orbot, be sure to first enable "Use Default IPTables" in Orbot settings so it will work ok. Then enable "Transparent Proxying", and choose the apps you want to use Tor under "Select Apps". That's the easiest way to use it. When you want to use the apps normally again, just turn off Tor.
You can learn more about Tor and Orbot at https://www.torproject.org/

I used the same settings and it worked perfectly on my Sprint GN2 (stock rooted, Knox removed) I was able to connect my tablet and my net-book at the same time, Range seems pretty good too about 40' away and 3 rooms over from my phone, still had full bars.
I was only able to test on 3G at the moment (no 4G at the house yet)
I hope this works as good on 4G, i will test it out over the next few days.
Anyone NOT have this work yet? I've tried all the options stated above and I don't get an IP no matter what. The SSID does broadcast but no IP is ever obtained. Have an email into the dev but I'm hoping maybe one of you has run into this.
Thanks

So if you attempt to ping those addresses, what gets returned? How did you accomplish it? I used OpenDNS and all web calls get redirected to the OpenDNS error page. I've had no issues using that method. It's also nice to filter out "Web Spam" sites, so I leave it on all the time.

How did you implement the block? Did you edit the DNS entries on your computer or router? Can you post a screenshot?

That's your problem. You need to change the DNS settings on the router to the OpenDNS DNS servers.

phew. and I thought Amazon has figured out a way to get around the blocking. why didn't you or don't you block your updates using su/ disable ? Isin't that full proof?

Sorry, I forgot to say I have my belkin router in between the uverse router and the aftv. I changed the DNS settings on the belkin router to be able to block sites using opendns.

Don't you need to be rooted to do this? I'm not.
I think I stumbled upon something interesting. Two of my Fire TVs have the amazon app store apk installed on them, but one doesn't, and it is getting update, but the ones with the amazon app store installed are not. I am thinking that if you have the amazon app store apk installed that it disables the updates. Not sure if I am right, but try instlling it and see if it fixes your problem.

Remove Amazon lockscreen ads w/ ADB

Please do NOT continue with this tutorial. This method has been improved, and has moved to another thread which you can visit by clicking here. Thank you for you're understanding!
I have finally found a highly effective solution to remove lockscreen ads from the Fire Tablets. If you want to COMPLETELY remove ads without them coming back randomly this is the post for you. So without further ado let's get started.
All you will need is:
Fire Tablet
USB Cable
USB Debugging enabled
And a computer
1. Next you will need to download Settings Database Editor by 4A from the Play Store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=by4a.setedit22
Once the app is installed DO NOT open it. Proceed to the next step.
2. Enable USB debugging, if you need help refer to this website:
https://www.howtogeek.com/129728/how-to-access-the-developer-options-menu-and-enable-usb-debugging-on-android-4.2/
3. Once USB debugging is enabled plug your tablet into your PC.
Now you will need to open a Command Prompt (Windows) or a Terminal (Linux) session.
Now type the following commands EXACTLY as they appear on screen:
Code:
adb shell pm grant by4a.setedit22 android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
You will know if the command has work successfully if it does not return an error after executing the command.
4. Now you can close the Terminal/Command Prompt and unplug your device from the PC.
5. Open Settings Database Editor. Once in the app look for a drop down menu that by default should say "System Table" tap on it and select "Global Table" from the drop down menu.
6. Find the following line of code:
Code:
"LOCKSCREEN_AD_ENABLED" "1"
Now to disable the lockscreen ads go ahead and tap on it. A box should pull up with a 1 already inserted, now delete the 1 and replace it with a 0. Now reboot your Fire Tablet! Once it reboots the Lockscreen ads should be no more. Thanks for taking the time to read this post and have a wonderful day!

Hey Monkeybomb, great work!
i'm experiencing an odd behavior though with this, apparently, if you let your tablet naturally go back to sleep (display times out) the ads will come back. any ideas on how to prevent that, other than disabling screen timeout?

That would be the only way unless you are on 5.4.0.0 then you can disable system apps.
Just hitting the "thanks" button is not enough in this case. THANKS!
How did you figure that out? What did you do to get to this solution? And again, thanks!

Glad I could help you out! The Settings Database is where Android stores all of the values for each setting. By using the Settings Database Editor app we can manually change the values located in the settings.db file. Apparently, the only other known method to disable ads on the Fire Tablet is to removed the Amazon Offers app through ADB which sadly can no longer be done because Amazon has blocked the ADB command after the latest system update. The idea came to me when I was interested to see if Amazon was storing a value in the settings database governing the lockscreen ads and much to my surprise there it was! By using the Database Editor app we are able to change the value and thus removing the ads without the use of a PC (after you grant the app access to change system settings of course).

Thank you for your kind words!
Unfortunately I don't know another way with this method. I'am however working on an app that can automatically perform the actions of disabling the lockscreen ads without user interaction. I will keep you all updated as I continue to make progress

I have a method that will completely remove ads, even when the device sleeps, reboots, etc. I will share more information with you guys soon. Stay tuned
You can also try the amazon representative chat method. They removed mine very easily. I just said it blocks my notifications. Without any problem they removed my ads.
Alright guys I've successfully posted my new method. I PROMISE it will remove the ads for GOOD. Thanks guys!

I found simply disabling the kindle special offer will work.
Device must be rooted already.
adb shell
su
pm disable com.amazon.kindle.kso
Then change
LOCKSCREEN_AD_ENABLED
to 0.
Works on 2015 Fire 7. Thank you!
Many, many thanks, bro!!! I picked up a 7" 2017 Fire tablet and can attest that your fix works on 5.6.1, the latest OS. I use this tablet strictly as a touchscreen wifi universal remote control for Harmony, Nest, etc. No ads make it even better, now! :good:

Hi Spoofy,
While this method does work and it will remove the ads it will only remove them temporarily. The ads sadly will return. However I have perfected this method by making a script that will remove the ads permeantly. Please check out the updated thread located here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/development/remove-amazon-lockscreen-ads-adb-t3784848 thanks for your understanding.
New thread on this method.

Hi jswriter,
I'm so happy that I could help you out with this method. I think it's very cool what you are using the tablet for! However I need to let you know that this method isn't perminant and the lockscreen ads will return. Fortunately, I have posted a new thread on this method that WILL prevent the lockscreen ads from returning and is a perminant solution. Please visit the thread for details. https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/development/remove-amazon-lockscreen-ads-adb-t3784848 thanks for your understanding. Have a great day!
Tested this with my new Fire HD 10 and Fire OS 7.3.1.1 and it works only for a few seconds/minutes.
