Delayed Notifications When Screen Is Off - Moto G5 Questions & Answers

I am not receiving any notifications when the screen is off.
When I turn my screen on, all my notifications come through.
I am using PNF No Root and it works fine when the screen is on.
I have disabled battery optimization for the apps I want to receive notifications for including PNF.
I am using stock Oreo 8.1.
Any help would be appreciated.

So far I have tried.
- Factory reset
- Disabled battery optimization for all apps
- Turned off Moto Display
- Sync and notifications are turned on for all apps
- PNF heartbeat is set to 1 minute
The problem still persists.
Can anyone help me with this issue?

Update.
Notifications work as expected when my phone is connected to the charger. No delays.
It's most likely a doze issue. Is doze disabled when connected to the charger?
I have disabled battery optimization for all apps, which didn't work.
I don't have access to a computer so I can't disable doze using adb.
Maybe a bug with the December update, OPPS28.85-13-4, not overriding battery optimization ?

Did you give the premission to app to show notification In locked screen???

Yes.
All notifications work correctly when my phone is connected to the charger. When running on battery power, notifications do not show when the screen has been off for more than 5 minutes.

Are you running build number OPPS28.85-13-4 with Android security patch level 1 December 2018?
Hopefully it will be fixed with the next update.

Did it not happen before the December update?
The February update has been released in the US, not sure if there were any bug fixes. Hopefully we get the February update in the next few weeks.

LED disabled on 7.0 Nougat?

In Marshmallow we had the enable LED option under Settings -> Screen, on Nougat this option is not there anymore, Light Flow with Normal/Direct/ROOT mode doesn't work too..
Does anyone knows an easy way tô enable the LED?
Since Marshmallow I've been enabling Miracast with a simple line on build.prop, hopefully there is another for enabling the LED.
Thanks.

Thanks! I haven't seem that menu..
The only bug on N that I am experiencing is that some apps seem to no longer trigger the notification light. Chrome does, for example, but Touchdown does not.

I noticed this on one of my apps when I set the phone down for a few hours like overnight, no light and no sound. I woke up this AM and seen no notification light and then as soon as i pressed the power button to wake up the screen the notification sound played. defiantly a bug, not sure if its with one specific app or across the board. I have yet to get a late night call, as far as I know.

It should not matter if it was charging or not, I'm trying to understand where you are going with this?
The app functions perfectly until the phone is left alone for several hours then it will never notify, no light, no sound, nothing until I hit the power button., then the sound played no light obviously.
I am tempted to start a thread on this shortly, but I need to see if other apps behave the same way.

I know there is that option, however I did not have to preform this in 6.0.1 for any app, so that's why I am wondering whats up and if that will make a difference or not. I do know that apps with GCS can automatically bypass this from what I read, but that has to be written into the app. I will continue to experiment with seeing what apps do it or do not do it without messing around with turning off optimization for any app like with 6.0.1 . Either this version of doze is overly aggressive or its a bug

Well, in any case its too early to tell what it is, at least for my level of understanding the android OS as well as some others on here.
I guess I will just sit tight n wait and see what others are saying about notifications

From my understanding/experience, Doze is significantly more aggressive now than it was in 6. Which is great for battery life, but annoying when you're watching TV and expecting an email or some such.
The charging comment in my other post was due to the understanding that doze is disabled while charging; if you charge over night everything should come in normally, but if you just leave the phone down then it will not.

I thought that might be what you might be getting at .
If doze is more aggressive, i think it is overly aggressive to the point where sometime within an hour of setting your phone down it will only alert for calls/text messages, nothing else, then if the text come in early enough in the light the notification light will completely stop by the time you wake up. I am just not too happy about how overly aggressive this is as like you stated expecting someone to contact you in some way you are SOL. I don't think one should have to go through every single app to set it manually, that is pointless IMO
I have re flashed my system partition since the factory images came out a few hours ago so maybe(not) that could help but I am not optimistic.
Thanks for clearing that up

Doze does not completely kill the services. It just adds more and more delay to its syncing, so even if doze is working aggressively, the notifications should be delayed (like by some seconds or minutes), not completely disabled. The case you are stating doesn't seems normal. I don't know if the apps need to be updated.

So, at least in my case, I solved this issue with the notification light. I went into Settings --> System UI Tuner --> Other --> Power Notification Controls --> and turned them on. Then, Settings --> Notifications --> Touchdown (the app that was giving me problems) --> and changed the notification level from Auto to Level 4 (one down from the top).
Since then, the notification light works as expected.

New Stock ROM 20170814 and OTA not working!!

Afternoon Gents,
Elephone have posted another 7.1.1 stock rom for this unit dated the 14.08.17
http://www.elephone.hk/downloads
Fixes?
* This one looks like it fixes the severe battery drain as the unit now correctly powers the screen down when in standby.
* Time for first GPS fix is greatly improved.
* 5th July Android Security Patch.
Basically we're back to the stability of the late 6.0 builds with faster GPS.
Here's the annoying part
I've been in discussions with Elephone via FB and email to their Engineers. They are insistant that this update has been released OTA on Mon 21st, BUT my phone never got it. I've done repeated checks on multiple fibre, VDSL and VPN connections and it either returns no connection or Device up to date I've had to manually flash the scatter file from their website then flash the phone, which obviously completely resets everything.
Hi, on Monday 21, i have receive this update.
Before this, no problem for me with my S7 4/64 on Android 7.1.1...
Now, after update : very big battery drain, and zero notification , exept SMS ( no notification of games, app ....)
So there is a big problem
Have you done a factory reset. I have had similar issues after an OTA, especially with the fingerprint scanner. A full reset fixed it.
Factory reset done , so :
- Battery drain : the same after reset
- Notification : sometimes it work, sometime no ????
- LED notification : OK
- Charging : return of the sound when connect / disconnect charger OK now

Hmmm. Interesting. I have an S7 64/4 and on the latest update:
* Battery drain is significantly reducced. Previously this was caused by the screen not turning off when going into standby leading to rapid battery drain. My screen now goes completely off after 30 seconds and I get about 36-48 hours on a charge.
* LED notification is fixed, although the colours marked in the menu are wrong. I think there are 7 colours in the menu but only 3 work.
* Charging sound functions normally.
Did you use the OTA? What happens when you use the upgrade on the website? I wonder if they may be differennt somehow.

The extra cover you can buy with the window in it works with the Hall sensor in the phone to turn the display to the clock then off. In the May/June firmware, this process wasn't working, the screen always stayed on leading to terrible battery drain

It's not only that the screen is always on but the CPU scheduler for the device is badly optimized.
It won't properly shut down the performance cores or multimedia cores when using phone only for simple stuff like reading web, watching youtube or sms.
Plus when the phone goes to sleep, all cores are on at 1GHz randomly.

Battery drain

Hi All,
I'm an happy user of my xa1 g3112 updated with last version Android 7 40.0A.6.175
I suppose after the last update a bug has been triggered and now I'm suffering a battery drain issue
Bluetooth is continuosly eating battery in the listed application is always on top or second place
This is happening despite no devices are connetced
So far that's the list of attempt I've done to fix the issue wihtout luck:
- Reboot in safe mode
- delete all the devices paired
- restore app permission
- Disabled bluetooth scanning
- enable stamina
- as last flag bluetooth processes as not optimized
Anyone has the same exerience, any fix thanks
Stefano

Hi
You've only to reset your device. You installed an app that drains battery in the background or you've enabled something wrong.
As last chance before resetting cancel the data of Bluetooth on applications settings:highfive:
Wish could be helpful

I've bought the smartphone in September 2017 and I didn't had the feeling I had this issue at the beginning.
Is the problem triggered by an update? Or it's present also with stock rom?
Have you the dual or single sim version?
That's really a pain the solution could be wait for oreo or rollback to the factory rom.

Xperia XA1 big battery drain in standby after Android v8 Feb 2019 security updates
Confirm that ever since I received Nov 2018, and then Feb 2019 Android v8 security patch updates, in late Feb 2019. I have been experiencing significant extra battery drain with my Dual SIM Xperia XA1 whenever Bluetooth is enabled.
Currently I'm experiencing this on 48.1.A.2.101 (Android 8.0.0 with 5 February 2019 security patch), but believe the issue started with 48.1.A.2.73 (8.0.0 with 5 November 2018 security patch which I personally received & installed on 26th Feb 2019, Feb security patch then became available shortly after)
Has taken me a while (& I used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm) to track down that I don't believe it's any new or misbehaving apps. And like others here I initially wondered if Bluetooth background scanning (Changed via Settings > Lock screen & security > Location > Scanning) could have been the culprit, but no that's not made a significant difference.
At the moment the only workaround I've found is manually turning on/off Bluetooth from quick actions, but before Feb updates my Xperia had excellent all day battery when in light use, frequently being at 40%+ at end of the day, now with battery drain issue I'm lucky to make 30% by 6pm, often worse!
See attached for screenshot from GSam battery monitor when I was only lightly using my phone, but only switched off Bluetooth between approx 10.30am-1pm today and the slope of battery drain is substantially different!
(I have just recently asked if the developers of that app can add a Bluetooth On/Off orange bar overlay to that graph which would makes things much more definitive to track)

Not experiencing anything like this. Battery saver appears to be working normally. How did you update? Are you able to flash a full image vs ota?
I got the ota from OCT... And that's when I noticed the WiFi and battery saver issues. Maybe the NOV update will fix it

"Are you able to flash a full image vs ota?" Neither issue was introduced with the October update. Maybe flashing the full image via fastboot will fix it. Otherwise do a FDR and move on. Best of luck.

Question Any solutions for Pixel 6 Pro with Android 13 not draining battery on Wear OS watches?

I have been having this issue since updating my phone (Pixel 6 Pro) to Android 13. The battery life of my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (SM-R890) has tanked. I used to get 2+ days of battery life with the watch and after the Android 13 update I got well less than a day. Many people on reddit have the same issue. It is not related to the watch, Other Wear OS watches are having same issue (like TWP3). This appears to be a Bluetooth issue with phone. When I turn off Bluetooth on my phone, my watch is back to 2+ days. In the Sept. update bulletin It said "Fix for issue occasionally preventing certain Bluetooth devices or accessories from connecting". I was hopeful that the Sept. update would fix this issue but alas it does not. I have the Verizon Sept. update (TP1A.220905.004.A1). I currently turn off Bluetooth on my phone so my watch's battery does not drain. It kind of sucks having a smart watch not connected to phone. Does anyone know if there is a way to resolve this issue?
I have the exact same watch and pixel 6 pro, I am not experiencing this issue. Although I do not use google assistant, which was draining my phone and the watch like crazy as you report, after stopping to use I stopped having problems. August update Android 13 galaxy watch app was draining the crap out of my phone, to the point I mostly disabled it and manually allowed the sync, again after Samsung software updates and Sept build all of this has gone away again.
August update was so crap I also did a factory reset of the phone no restore to try to fix all of this, and other issues with Bluetooth, made no difference. With September update almost all these issues have gone away.
If you upgraded from 12 -13 not factory reset I would recommend doing that.
Or backup the watch and reset it, making sure you remove the watch for bluetooth devices on the phone before, so it sets up clean as a bluetooth device.
Do you think that if I disable Assitatant on phone this could resolve issue? I use this feature very infrequently. I do not have installed on watch. I did upgrade from from 12 to 13 as apposed a factory reset. I'm fine doing phone reset though a bit more work (backing up texts, photos, etc.). I did reset of watch after A13 update but pre sept update. Do you think resetting watch now after sept update could resolve? Thanks for your help!
It's Samsung health that's draining the battery. I rolled back to the July version of Samsung health and battery is great. You can also turn off Samsung health permission to "physical activity" and that will help. The problem is the August update for Samsung Health basically keeps keeps the app running constantly on Android 13 because it's trying to sense all physical activity from your phone and doesn't allow the phone to deep sleep. It's interesting because if you roll back to the July build of Samsung Health, you can keep the physical activity permissions on and it doesn't have the deep sleep issue.
Sorry to tell you I'm not experiencing this. I get a good 2.5-3 days of battery life with samsung health and everything running as normal on Android 13 and the latest GW4 update.

Yes, absolutely, do a search for something like huge battery drain after google assistant launches on watch 4, you will see it littered everywhere and the recommendation was to uninstall it. Quick and easy test, then if it makes no difference then just install it again.
