It's actually so small it shows different colors based on the viewing angle. But it's totally usable and it's better to have it than not to have it (à la OnePlus 6T).

Look for " Light Flow' in the app store. With that kind of apps you can change the notification color.

Only one notification light colour?

I was reading the comment section for gsmarena I believe and i noticed someone complain about the redmi note 5 pro only having one colour for the notification light. However i tried to search for information regarding this on the internet but was only able to find a youtube video on the review of the redmi note 5 pro from gadgets.ndtv.com that showed a front facing white light they used for the 20mp selfie; jump to 4:18 for the diffused led fill light at the front.
If anyone can provide information about the notification light on the redmi note 5 pro, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Dont worry it'll be a RGB notification light. They won't cut corners on notification light for their note series atleast.
Update (23-05-2018): Turns out the notification light is a single color unit.
RN5 & RN5 Pro both have RGB notification light.
The op is right,
See here for more details

Dont worry its an RGB led. Its just the color is restricted to white only( like in my redmi 4x). It'll be enabled on custom roms.

I've tried other LED color changing apps, and I think it is a monocolor LED.

The Mi6, Mi Note 3, 5X and A1 only have white notification LEDs. It seems Xiaomi made the decision 12 months ago that new models would not include a RGB LED. Please don't post information unless you're sure of its accuracy.

Bro i have redmi 4 and it also came with single white notification light but it turned out to be a rgb unit. So on custom roms the rgb led is perfectly working fine.

That's good to know. However, it would be good to confirm that's the case with all models or if you got lucky with the R4.

He ain't lucky, he is correct. The hardware supports RGB, but the stock software limits it to white light.
Custom ROMs may very well have the option to enable the complete RGB unit.

Yeah, I understand, but it would be nice to have confirmation about the other models I mentioned. It would make sense that it's simply a software limitation based on what he reported, but Xiaomi may have changed things in other models for all we know.

They may have changed for other device. But it ain't luck for sure for R4 as each one has rgb unit, just limited to white only in miui.
Also i hope its the same with R5pro.
Guys i confirm we do not have RGB LED.
It is just a white LED so using apps is useless.
Redmi note 5 and Redmi note 5 pro both have the same white single colour LED.
So it is not a software issue or software limitation but it is seriously absent.
Sources :- Comparing notification LED module form Teardown videos of RN5P, RN5, RN4, R4 available in YouTube.
PS :- Not only that we have single tone (white) dual LED flash for back camera. So no dual tone available. It is strange that there is dual tone LED flash for Redmi note 5 and single tone for redmi note 5 pro.

How does edge lighting work with Always On?

I see it work when the screen is on. However, when my screen is in the Always On mode, I find it only ever has the edge lighting effect when I use Google assistant. At no other time will the edge lighting work, and I have it set to Always in settings.
Is this the expected behavior? Seems kinda strange to only do it when your attention is already on the screen...

Ok, goto settings>Display>Edge Screen>Edge Lighting> then scoll to the bottom and click Manage Notifications. Choose the apps you want it to work with.
You can also choose each app to have it's own colour,
After you have selected the apps you want to use edge with click back and click on Edge Lighting Style then choose colour and then app colour. You can then give each app a different colour.

Oh and when you have set the colours change width setting to wide, it shows up much brighter then

How to Get Edge Light for U Shape Notch Cut out ?

Anyone can tell me how can i get edge light on U Shape Notch
i see Cot out edge light in S10 Any app for Smausng Galaxy A70
There is no edge light in the A70, probably because its not an edged screen phone. Sorry maybe with a costumed room will be able to add that feature
I think the OP meant light just around the U-notch - for a battery meter for example, or to act like a notification LED.

Doesn't that app just offer battery level status around the notch, but not a system notifications LED effect (such as green for new text messages, blue for emails, orange for What's App, etc). I think that's what the OP was asking for.

strange blue bar on bottom of games

Hi, have anyone else noticed that strange blue bar on the bottom of the screen in every game? It doesn't appear in any app just in games. I have recorded how it looks like.
Noticed it. I think it happens during charging?
No, my charger is not plugged in. What may it be? Can we disable it?
Edit:
Ok, I found it. It's temperature monitoring. When enabled it shows that blue bar. It tunes brightness and CPU speed to lower temperature
Hello OP,
I guess we're talking about the same thing as we did here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/help/strange-edge-lighting-behaviour-t3961374
Do you have some clues about deactivating this?
---------- Post added at 04:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:28 PM ----------
(I mean, disable this annoying light blue random line? Maybe without disabling game booster totally)

Hi!
Only by disabling temperature monitoring. Speed won't be throttled and blue bar won't appear
Hi,
I'll give a try, and if it's that, thanks a lot, this ugly notification was driving me crazy!
Temperature Control
I mean, it's really not that annoying... It's just a tiny blue bar probably 5 pixels tall that scrolls back and forth like edge lighting... The only thing I have activated in Game Booster is the temperature moderator, which is most likely the reason for the blue bar. I'm glad it's just a tiny blue bar on the bottom off the screen than some big elaborate toast message saying "Game Booster active with Temperature Controller" or some junk like that... It's just notifying you that you have Game Booster features activated.
To be honest, I wish Game Launcher was on the Note 10/10+. I am one that liked Game Launcher, having it automatically group my games instead of having to make a folder and manually add them. It was interesting to see my stats and have enerything all together. (Please don't off-topic to this. The primary reason of my post was to back-up the Temperature Moderater feature of Game Booster.)

Notifications

I am not happy with the way my Fold handles notifications. Remember when Samsung used an LED for such purposes -- my Note 3 has one Leaving out useful features is not my idea of progress. If anyone has a good way to handle notifications on the fold, I'd love to hear it.
Could try notify theres a few apps like it
hmm..... i have 2 points:
1. why buy a device being fully aware that it doesn't have the feature you're looking for, and then complain about it on a forum?
if you're still using a note 3, just because you fell behind and got used to a specific feature, doesn't automatically make it a "useful" feature.
2. actually, it has progressed. its called always on display.
the notification led was a 1 trick pony. it could only light up your last notification color. the always on display will show multiple app notifications.
NOT ONLY does it show your notifications, you have a clock, a battery percentage, and even your calendar for the day, if you change the always on display face to that specific one.
if you have something against the always on display, i've love to hear it. i'm genuinely curious why anyone would choose a notification led vs. an always on display these days.

oh, i forgot to add, on the always on display, you can even double tap ON the notification icon for whatever app is showing, and it'll launch you right into that app.

You misunderstood. Firstly, I do not use the note 3 (which also sports a useful IR blaster) on a daily basis.
I was able to use the Note 10+ with an add-on to make the notification on the AOD easier to notice. I guess I should have asked if anyone tried any of the several AOD utilities on the Fold. I guess it will be a case of trying myself
