Mate 20x or Mate 20 - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

After searching and reading, it comes down to either the 20x or the regular 20. I also thought about the View 20 but that is off the shelf now. I read and watched everything on youtube about them both so i know what to expect mostly. But i do have some important questions.. Ill start by saying currently own the Mate 9. Since the mate 9, for some reason, i am always drawn to Huawei mate phones
First thing I would like to know about the 20x is how is the speakerphone loudness when talking to someone else. Is it strong enough? Can you hear the other person clearly and loudly? I know that listening to music and speaking on the speakerphone not necessarily have the same quality and volume.
Everyday use... is it a hassle to carry on you? Is it a hassle to use with one hand?
Last thing and most important i wanna know is bang for the buck, value for money.
Only thing that deters me from the 20X is the price. It will cost me about $970 doesnt matter if i buy it online or in my country (import tax, etc bring it to that price even if i buy online for $750) . I have NEVER thought i would spend that much on a damn phone, and even thinking about it now sounds ridiculous. In my whole life time, the most I spent on a phone was $650, but that phone is the only one which really gives me the strong itch to spend on it, and IF i do, there is just NO WAY i am going to upgrade again in 2-3 years. So this HAS to be something that will keep on running smoothly stay relevant for at least 3 years, just like the Mate 9 i have now.
I dont game at all, but I do like to browse a lot and watch Netflix so the big screen and the insane speakers sounds great. Can I afford the phone? yes I can. But if i do, i need to know that its totally worth the price.
The other option is the Mate 20 (pro is a no go) which sounds good too (4GB/128) , but obviously not as good as the 20x and will cost me $660.. thats a $300 price difference. So I really need your UNBIASED advice.
I am also worried about updates.. until these days i have never received Oreo on my Mate 9

For me the choice is obvious. The Mate 20 X has a bigger screen, AMOLED display, larger battery, better camera.
Side note, Android 9 is due to be released for the Mate 9 (C432) in the upcoming weeks. You might want to check Firmware Finder if you're still stuck on Nougat.
I've upgraded from a Mate 9 to the 20 X only for the larger screen. I was quite happy with it otherwise.

That $300 you'd be saving over the course of two years is only $12 a month. If you had a Mate 20 X and a Mate 20 in front of you and you only owned the Mate 20 you'd probably kick yourself for not spending the extra few hundred and getting the Mate 20 X. If you plan on keeping the phone for a while then don't go cheap and just spend the extra money. Everything is loud on the 20 X. You won't be disappointed. I said the same thing, that I'd never spend this much money on a phone again until I heard about the 20 X. I'm glad I spent the money because the phone is awesome.

Firmware Finder wont help. i tried everything. my phone wont get updates.
Big screen is also what i want.. although 6.5" with flat screen isnt that small either. Just hard to decide if phone is worth almost $1k

I have 2 units MATE 20 X, just like the guys above me said, the most i have ever spent on a phone was 475 EUR back in time when Nokia 93i was Released. Since then i have owned Galaxy Note 3 Clone, LeTV Le Max X900 ( which i buiild it myself with all the parts ) and Xiaomi Mi Mix. When Mate 20 X was released, i knew it since the first second this phone is for me... all i wanted was a bigger screen , as you may notice my Screen Experience has increased with every phone i have owned : Nokia N93i, Note 3 Clone, LeTv LeMax, Xiaomi Mi Mix 6.4inch.
Mate 20 X has almost everything you could possibly want from a Smartphone and still is cheaper than it's competitors : Big AMOLED Screen, Dual Stereo Speakers, Leica Triple Camera, 5000MAh battery. These are the reason i choose Mate 20 X. I' a little bit of a maniac, so i bought another one as a backup unit...
Get the Mate 20X, it is worth spending the money on this amazing smartphone.

Since the price drop I think the mate 20 PRO is actually cheaper then the mate 20x. It dropped by $450!
5G version of mate 20 x has been announced, but I'm hoping price and release date pops up soon. There are not many details yet. Then maybe the 20x will drop in price.
I really want the mate 20x but I don't know if I want to wait a bit to see if the price will drop or wait for the 5G version so that it is more future proof. I'm the same when I buy this phone it will quite a while before I get something else.

The price of Mate X is 2299$ and it will be released mid year... Price will not drop so fast ... The market for that phone is a totally different one... What it scares me about Mate X is 5G and only 4500MAh Battery with all that screen on it... Thanks, but i'll stick with Mate 20 X

No you missread
There is a 5G version of the Mate 20X being released.
I'm not talking about the folding mate x phone.

Would you recommend getting it from ebay? never MSRP is selling it, but im worried buying an almost 1k phone from ebay. The other option i have is Clove UK, but they are $95 more expensive than MSRP but i assume more reliable

Mate 20 Pro price has been reduced so it's on par with the 20 X. If I didn't want a large screen size I'd go with the 20 Pro. No reason to consider the 20

Pro is ugly too but that's my opinion of course. It's a no go for me and it also misses the 3.5mm audio jack.

I have never even considered the pro. it was never an option.

Same for me. Have you made your decision wether to go for the Mate 20 or 20X?
It sucks Huawei doesn't deliver it globally :/

Go for 20x. Its pricing is very competitive even now. There is no sense of Waiting. I mean, how much it has to drop so this woul be enough for you?

I buy my phones from them including pre ordering the 20 X. (never-msrp) They are a very reliable seller and I've never had an issue.

I understood that he is importing it from Singapore (not sure about that), and Clove is selling UK stock.. could this have effect on updates? I certainly wouldnt want that what happened with my Mate 9 would happen again with a $1000 phone

"Everyday use... is it a hassle to carry on you? Is it a hassle to use with one hand?"
It's not a hassle at all to carry. It fits in pockets, etc. It is rather tall, but if you're interested in this phone at all, you know all about the size of it. It's a heavy phone. I don't mind the weight, though. I like a phone with a bit of heft. I have larger than average hands, but I still can't completely use it one-handed. I have no problem texting and other day to day uses using one hand, but I find that it's just easier to do certain things on it using two hands or one hand plus the pen accessory. If your hands aren't larger than most, you'll be using two hands more than you're used to using. It's no big deal though, and you get used to it quickly.
"Last thing and most important i wanna know is bang for the buck, value for money."
I bought the phone the day it was available internationally, so I paid close to a thousand dollars, and I still think the cost was justifiable. It has a killer screen, killer camera, pen input, an extremely reliable, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, loud speakers, and lightning fast processor. Huawei has been updating this phone monthly so far. I've always been worried about Huawei's lack of support soon after a phone is released. They've been on top of this phone, however. I'm really satisfied with their support so far. I would imagine, however, that if you keep this phone for 3 or more years, your update and support expectations shouldn't be too high. I'm just guessing here, but I think the really good support Huawei is giving to the new Mate line of phones will slack off by October or so, once the new line comes out. In three years, I would imagine very little support.
"I dont game at all, but I do like to browse a lot and watch Netflix so the big screen and the insane speakers sounds great. Can I afford the phone? yes I can. But if i do, i need to know that its totally worth the price."
I don't do much gaming either. Whatever else you do on this phone will be made better by the screen. It's that good, and it's really big. YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, web browsing....all that is excellent on this phone. Just remember, it's a heavy phone. So, long video or browsing sessions might take some effort if you're holding the phone the entire time.
If you can afford the X, I say go for it. Get the international version and get it working right out of the box. You won't be disappointed.

Gonna buy the phone today. I decided to get it from Clove UK since they give 2 years warranty unlike eBay. I hope i wont need it, but if i put down 1K on a phone, i would like to have some warranty. I heard that UK are about the last to get updates though

I've the 20X. Was going to get the pro but, don't like curved screens, don't want in screen scanner, don't use wireless charging... Don't like the dimensions. Mate 20 X is an epic phone however!
I had the Mate 9, first saw it on holiday whilst I'm Thailand then imported one and charged the region loved loved loved it. Then bricked it and binned it. Very sad day...
Had S9+ then Note 9 (got sent back) then Honor View 10 that ended up in the toilet... So I researched and was instantly drawn to the X.
Got it, thought I'd made a mistake on day one, was too big I thought... Day two, hell, I wouldn't consider anything else.
Speakers are fantastic, dolby atmos stereo, battery life stellar, sometimes I get 9 hours SOT, play PUBG, hdr video, goes on and on. Love this phone as much as I loved my mate 9.
You'll love it too. Guaranteed! Let us know how you get on!

Is the HTC 10 still worth it?

So here where I live I can get an HTC 10 (used but in good condition) for around 160$ to 200$. Seems like good price for a 2016 flagship, with specs that's really pretty decent to this day.
However we all know specs don't mean much in used phones. I wanna know from your experience if you own one, the commons real life cons of this phone like: is it slow? Is the battery life bad and if so, can it be improved? Is the price that (160$-200$) actually a good price? Is the sound (headphones on and speakers) quality good? And so on....
What are the pros?
I would really like to know since I always wanted one but back then I didn't have the money to afford one.
Thanks in advance everyone!
PS: I'm reposting this thread since last time I posted in the wrong place. Sorry lads

I OWN One bought it befor 6 months MINT like Brand New Condition never used Unlocked USA version for 200 USD sealed with the BOX and Cables etc.
Well i dont buy it because the offer was Perfect i bought it because i like it.. 6 months later well because was MINT never used my battery hold about 30 Hrs with the always internet on and my usage also i was thinking soon to Upgrade this YEAR but after ALL flagships come out S9 then i was waiting for the U12 Plus Noooooo i will not update my HTC 10 because nobody can give me this solid metal unibody sexy sleek feeling and i dont wana change it for a Glass, just waiting the Pixel 3 to come and if doesnt appel to my teste i will not Upgrade this year as well.
Also there is not any serious reason to Update because right now my HTC 10 looks perfect the Music sound great with Installed SAURON now the sound is superrior to most latest flagships on the same time for IMAGEs i use GCAM the phone feels smooth, fast and i can do whatever i want and need without to miss something.
So it is a choice depends from the personal preference but for me my HTC 10 worth every penny even now in 2018 year. and the Build quality compared to the latest Flagships is ROCK SOLID.
Have a Note: I started with M7 then M8 and from M8 i jump str8 to the 10
well Im feeling like MAYBE HTC 10 will be my last PHONE from HTC and i like it and planing to use it till its totally die.
Maybe the HTC 10 will be the LAST from his ERA the Metal Unibody the Boom Sounds thats was the mean reason why i did use almost 4 years my M8 and dont regred it.

any previous mate 9 users here? upgrading advice

currently own the mate 9 for about 2 years . best phone i have had. fulfills all my demands. Only problem im still Android 7 with EMUI 5. other than that, this phone is amazing.
My wife needs a new phone since she currently is with the Redmi note 5. I thought about giving her my mate 9 which will be a major upgrade for her needs and getting myself a new one. After searching and reading for a while now, i have come up with 3 options that are similar to the mate 9 in terms of what I would like to have in a phone: mate 20 and mate 20x and honor view 20
I would have loved to have the 20x, but its way too expensive ATM (about $900 in my country) so it will stay as a dream. So this leaves me with the mate 20 and honor view 20 . Mate pro is not an option also, as its too expensive and i dont like the wide notch and prefer not to have a curved and tall screen but a wide one just like the mate 9.
About my usage... Im a light-medium user. I dont play much. Mostly watching Netflix and lots of browsing and sometimes listening to music, a little bit of FB and also whatsapp.
Camera wise, only taking pictures of family. not really going on a trip and using my phone to take pics of the view. I have a Canon camera for that, so I would like to have a good camera ofcourse but i dont need it to be superb and the best in the market.
Mate 20 will cost me about $670 for the 4/128 in my country or $724 for the 6/128 if I order from Ebay.
View 20 will cost $760 for the 8/256
Here are the questions:
About the Mate...I have heard mixed reviews about the screen quality and especially the speakers not being really quality ones or at least having the stereo effect. All in all, is it worth its price? Would like to hear unbiased opinions and especially in comparison to the mate 9 (screen and speakers).
Would the 4 RAM be enough?
Also, would the view 20 be a better buy although a little more expensive ?
I got Mate 9, Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro.
1. EMUI is still disgusting but it works.
2. Speaker are a huge downgrade, compare to Mate 9 and Mate 10 but is still better than phone like OnePlus 6T
3. The screen is 10/10. Its bright and sharp. It's not Like on Mate 10 but its still very good.
4. The battery life is the best one I ever got. I get easy 8h SOT with 2 full days, both sim on LTE. Its like Redmi Note with 4000 mAh but with power. Mate 9 and Mate 20 are behind and this already got good battery life
5. Fingerprint is almost the same (10/10)
6. Charging is the same
7. Speed of the phone is sick. Almost no waiting for nothing
8. Camera is better but Videos are still trash
Bad is not good, some midrange Xiaomi's get better support.
EMUI eats a lot of memory (600-700MB RAM free) at 4GB version.
The Honor brand will get even badder support in firmware, no dual speaker and this hole... I don't know
I will never buy again Huawei phones. The UI kills me, bootloader is closed and firmware support is bad. Hardware is almost 10 of 10.
I know Xiaomi has better support but there is no Xiaomi phone now that interests me
The problem is you pay for premium but you get firmware updates like 200$ Xiaomi line. Xiaomi is just a example.
From 6GB to 4GB, from 1440p to 1080p and from very good speaker to good speaker + you pay more but still get bad support.
I bought my Mate 20 10.12.2018, get 2 updates, security patch level still 01/2019 and we enter 03/2019.
I pay for Mate 10 545€ on first week and for the Mate 10 Pro 499€ 60 days after release. This time I pay over 600€ 60 days after release and still **** firmware with bad support.
Was there supposed to be another security patch in February?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Huawei-Mat...rentrq:3a86484a1690aa484547e5c8fffbfd2b|iid:1
The 6GB version for $724( 637€ ) including shipping and taxes in my country. Its not cheap, just wanna make sure its worth it.
none of the stores here in my country sell the 6gb model, only the 4gb. and its a premium phone with a premium price of $660. paying $660 for 4GB... Although the 6GB variant isnt that common from what i noticed
Funny thing, with that price I buy 2 redmi note 7

You will get 2GB RAM more but a lot of things will not work like VoLTE. A friend bought it, I think Indonesia versiin, with 6GB RAM, no VoLTE, no Wifi-Calling, Huawei Cloud sad "not supported"... So he sell it and buy 4GB version of Mate 20 and anything works
ok thank you. so its better to get the 4GB. Do you feel the 4gn is enough?
Is the mate 20 worth the premium price?
In my country, mate 20 6/128 costs around 520usd, so it's a very reasonable price for me. That's why I chose mate 20 and it's so far so good till now, no thing to complaint, no competitors in this price range.
4GB is ok but I have only 700MB left, with my Xiaomi I got 2.2 GB left.
Go for the 6/128 Mate 20, you wont regret it.
The guy saying the 6/128 does not support VoLTE or Wi-Fi Calling is simply bs. Mine has both working on many networks, i travel a lot, and tested my device to the max, EVERYTHING works flawlessly. If something does not work then it means either the network does not support it, or the user is... ya know lol.
And before anyone goes bananas at me, i will provide any screenshots that proves what i said above.
Get the 6/128, stay away from the 4/128, the difference in RAM and cash will make the difference noticeable, trust me on that!
Cheers!

Thoughts on upgrade from OP5T to OP7P

Hello my fellow geeks! I wanted to get some opinions on this subject that I'm sure has been covered 1000 times in the last few weeks but I'm curious nonetheless. Firstly, let me say that I'm a tech mark and I switch tech at least yearly if not more often including phones, tablets, wearables, etc. Currently, I own an OP5T (8/128), Galaxy Note 9 (8/512) and an iPhone XS Max 256 that I use for work. I'm definitely waiting on the new Note 10 when it drops later this summer but since the new OP7P dropped, I'm starting to get antsy after seeing the specs, features, and performance reviews of the phone online. With that said, I absolutely love my OP5T and that's the reason I've kept it so long. The speed, performance, and overall quality of the phone is almost unmatched by more current and higher priced phones on the market today. The phone is truly a flagship killer. However, I purposely missed the last several iterations of the phone because I didn't see any features that stood out enough for me to upgrade and in that time, I grabbed the Note 9 and iPhone XS Max which was even more reason to stay put. I've been enamored with the Note 9 in particular which completey took my attention away from the OP5T but with the release of the latest OP7P, my mouth began watering all over again. I for one don't mind the curved screen and the bezeless design is a thing of complete beauty. I love big screen phones so the 6.7 inch AMOLED screen is almost enough for me to upgrade on its own. Honestly I've been spoiled by the Note 9 but I paid twice over the price of the OP5T so that should be expected. The OP7P seems to be a step closer to that true flagship but with some tradeoffs of course like IP rating and wireless charging. Has anyone upgraded to the OP7P from the 5T specifically. I'd like to know your thoughts. Also, I never really entertained trade ups because usually it's a rip off but OP is offering 200 credit for the OP5T. Seems low ball but that's a nice discount off the new tech. Any opinions out there? I'd love to hear them. Happy Saturday everyone!!!

Honestly, I've been asking myself the same question.
The only answer that's come up to me is that I'd rather wait for the next iteration - the OP7P is amazing, sure , but I think Note 10 and the next OP devices will be even better.
tl;dr - wait for the next one.

I was thinking that same thing. Part of my reasoning is the trade in program as well although I may be able to sell it privately for at least 300-350 but it's such a pain having to deal with that process. I've always gotten the T version of the OnePlus so I think you may be right to hold out. T version may have wireless charging and if so I'm sold!!

go for op7p it is the phone of the year if you ask me
the only thing that is stopping me from picking it up that it is almost 850 dollars where I live, and the fact that I can get s10+ for less than that.
if the price drops a little bit and be 750 or 700 I wouldn't hesitate getting it

What do you like most about the OP7P? The screen is my biggest attraction. I'm not too concerned about the pop up camera that a lot of people are fussing about. Wireless charging is the only thing it's missing as well as an IP68 rating at least but then again that would make the phone $1000.

I'm not sure if you've kept up with the recent coverage that the OP7P is getting. That screen you adore is plagued with ghost touch issues, see here https://www.phonearena.com/news/Phantom-taps-are-annoying-OnePlus-7-Pro-users_id116304
And real-world camera performance is mediocre at best, trademark OP.
https://www.phonearena.com/news/OnePlus-7-Pro-to-receive-camera-improving-update-next-week_id116245
They've also dug themselves a grave with some false marketing of its zoom capabilities.
https://www.phonearena.com/news/OnePlus-7-Pro-does-not-offer-3x-optical-zoom_id116292
Stay away from this one. This is their first attempt at a proper flagship and it is pathetic.
Wait for the next iteration if you really want another OnePlus device. The Note 10, on the other hand, is a definite winner.
I was an op fan for the price to spec ratio but unfortunately they are going down the drain with the pricing and with software bugs+issues as mentioned in the last post.

if the price drops a little bit and be 750 or 700 I wouldn't hesitate getting it

Same here, been thinking about upgrading my 5T to the 7 but for the same price I can get a S10+
And whilst OP has a better stock android experience, for the pricetag you are paying I personally think the S10+ is worth it more then the OP7 at that point.

Very good advice my friend. Than you very much for the links and info. This is the type of objective opinion I was looking for. I think I will wait at least until they update the firmware and alleviate the issues. Thanks again!

Okay, so the screen doesn't have an issue... it's a bug with NFC and the digitizer. And it's also easily fixable with a patch to the kernel.
The camera is actually pretty great with GCam mod. No root required like the 5T.
And I wouldn't go saying the Note 10 is a definite winner since it's not even announced yet and no specs have really been confirmed.
I just ended up returning mine. The curved screen kind of bothered me with the glare. I updated my old 5T and it is running really smooth on the latest beta.
Will wait for the next one.
After holding the 7 pro in my hand it made me love the superthin design of the 5T even more, mine is in a sandstone protective case from OnePlus and the 7 pro feels way too thick, in a case it's going to be a brick. It's a shame they made it so big.

2 years later and I keep coming back...this phone is STILL amazing.

I have a bad habit of going through phones like nobodies business and over the years I have owned what most would call too many. In fact the first question my colleagues usually ask me when we have team meetings etc is what phone do you have now? I have had a few favs all the way back to the first Sony CMZ100 to the Xperia Z-Ultra (had a few stares with that one).
I have never gone back to a phone over two years old on multiple occasions. I have bought and sold my Mate 20x twice and this is my third. I just cannot understand why this thing keeps calling me back.
Maybe it’s the beaut 7.2" flat screen (I must admit the Note 10+ almost had me but sold it as I didn’t like the curve).
Perhaps it’s the never fails fingerprint reader on the back that just always seems to work (that in screen one on the Note 10+ seemed to fail me 8 out of ten times).
Could it be the never ending battery life of the Mate 20X which is just fantastic.
Even now, two years later I still find myself picking this phone up and just looking at it and thinking how amazing it is.
Huawei hit it out of the park with this phone and I wonder if we will ever see another Mate..X to replace it...maybe one day we will.

Very well said. I am the same. Get asked by colleagues nd regular clients what phone I have quiet regulary as I change mine very often but have managed to keep my Mate 20X 5G and had the non 5g before for a short period. I must say I still miss my Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra for its powerful dual speaker that to date no phone can match (5g Mate20x only has 1 speaker and the earpiece speaker as a 2nd loudspeaker).
Overall all is good but given the actual phone size of my previously owned Asus ZF3U, I think Huawei could easily offer a larger 7.9"/8.4" display on next version with integrated stylus, independent dualsim+memory card expansion (better dual sim management options inside the notification menu as options/shortcuts) better customisable launcher like the Asus Launcher and finally at least dual but preferably quad speaker setup. Then this phone would be the ultimate productivity and entertainment device.
My phone came with Android 9 and now updated to Android 10, I am loving it even more. I enjoy how apps can be scaled with system wide dpi changes and find that I don't need my laptop for some productivity tasks, which is what these devices should offer given their size.
I really hope we can get Automatic Call Recording working again on the International EVR-N29 5g model as Android 10 took that apk workaround away.
Just imagine having a dual display accessory of the same size for this phone like the LG V60-maybe with the stylus integrated into it, then nothing would match this device on the market.
It's the same here, in 2018 I had 5 phones. Until 2018 I had the Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra, this huge phone I still miss sometimes (still have it).
But since this piece of art, I can't find any other phone which can match it... At all.
I still looks at Sammy S20 Ultra, but some things like the size, no Snapdragon in my county etc.
So I keep my M20X L29 636, with a smile on my face.

Funny you mention that. I was very close to buying the mate 20X. But as soon as news of the new Xiaomi Black Shark 3 Pro with 7.1 inch screen was released I soon forgot about any idea of buying it.
Right now the specs of the BS3 Pro destroy the 20X big time. I can't wait for it to officially come out. When it does I'll judge it against the 20X. If reviews on it meet my expectations I'll quickly forget about any chance of buying the 20X. If not I will buy the 20X. But to be perfectly honest, I think it will demolish the 20X.
Its time that a new big 7 inch screen phone take over as an upgrade. The 20X is definitely getting a bit old now.

Arrrr isn't the Xiaomi Black Shark 3 Pro with the damn curved display?? If it's a yes it's a no thx from here.
Tried it 3 times in the past with Sammy S serie edge phones, I really can't live with this, it's so annoying and makes the display even smaller to.

I agree! I almost sold this phone and thank God I didn't!, Yeah so there's new phone that are big but better specs. Who the fook cares! People so concerned about specs and the latest processor, etc. I'm more interested in my own every day usage. So the hottest newest 7 inch phone is faster and has more ram/ storage or a "better" camera. So what! Most people will not notice or need this ****e in their day to day usage. Most reviewers are complaining about stuff that really doesn't matter if you actually take the time to use it. I love this phone!

Correct. I can't wait for the Black Shark 3 Pro to come out also. Definitely a big upgrade from the 20X, big time! It also has wireless charging for its 7.1 inch screen. It'll be the new king of big phones from now on.
Wireless charging??? Like you said, it takes forever. to charge. I have no NEED for wireless charging. People are so lazy they can't use a cable?? That's a reason to upgrade a fantastic phone?? You want a bigger screen?? 8.4 inch phone? The 7.1 inch phone is already a bit heavy in the pocket. SMH. Most people don't think for themselves and allow reviewers, specs and technology trends to dictate what's good for them.
Also it's ridiculous when reviewers complain about no headphone jack. It is clear to me they are just repeating other reviewers say and not actually using the device for any substantial amount of time. Yeah it would be nice if every tech still had headphone jacks. But since they don't and most include an adapter or adapters are a few bucks - who cares. In my day to day usage, the inconvenience of not having a headphone jack (on my other devices) is ZERO.
Most people are too concerned with the latest and greatest tech for their devices rather then thinking for themselves to see what actually matters.

Nowadays ppl just doing it because they are being forced or blinded.. Like elcidroyale said..
Who on earth needs crazy camera with unrealistic 100x pointless zoom when nobody goonna even using it? Or nobody normal person orderdinary not even using camera how week is long.??? 5 - 7 photos that's it.. Or when cpu is only like 5% better which you will NEVER ever notice..
And biggest nonsense RAM. Just every one is gimmicked and lured by increasing numbers which not doing anything.. Only longer time of evolving electronic devices will feel the difference or when something isn't working on particular device or support is discontinued..
My laptop from 2015 had its limits as hdmi was outdated and I couldn't run [email protected] on my new 4k tv.. Now new laptops support hdmi 2.0 so I need to buy new laptop. And yes the picture from old tv is a huge difference + amazing HDR brightness- THIS is real upgrade no one year old phone only.. This phone has still another year or two potential..
My brother stil owns Honor 6 Plus and that's quite old I bought him new sony xiperia 10 and he still doesn't want to get rid of honor 6+

Dude, calm down. How do you know wireless charging on the bs3 pro takes forever to charge when it hasn't officialy come out yet? Then you said the phone is 8.4 inch. Its actually 7.1 inch. Where are you getting all your info from??
You need to seriously research a phone before you smack it around with complaints. I can't believe you said the phone was 8.4 inch when its 7.1 inch. I'm baffled.
You need to accept that the "latest and greatest tech" is now here and is pushing the mate 20 x off its throne. This isn't a competition, its just a comparison of one phone that has all the things the 20x lacks. Imagine holding on to a phone for 7 years when all phones have upgraded and have become the latest and greatest. Time for change.

Exactly. The black shark 3 pro is a huge upgrade from the mate 20X. At some point tech gets old and has to be replaced. I give the 20x just 6 months to a year potential. Time to upgrade!

Funny you say that, I have noticed drain being higher than stock 9.1 but I figured it was an EMUI 10 thing. Why would higher DPI hurt the battery? More drawing?

Just realised, OnePlus is just meh...

I recently got the OP7T and a few others before this one and there are some things that are just meh... One of them is, the famous line that most big youtube tech reviews say, "Oneplus is famous for timely updates" but is it really? Mine is still on the Jan security update, the Samsung Note 10 and the Sony Xperia 5 I had before, those were getting security updates every month, not saying that this is a deal breaker, the phone is fast and fluid with the stock Android experience, but bashing other manufacturers compared to the OP, saying that OP is very good with updates, that is simply not true. A few more reasons why Oneplus is just meh, the price, sure at launch it's hard to beat, but in the used market there are way better alternatives, here in the UK at least, Pixel 4 XL are around £450, Xperia 1 and 5 are around £280, Samsung S10 Plus around £350 and Samsung Note 10 are around £400, now the OP holds value for longer for sure, example, the OP7T 128gb is still around 400, but you're compromising compared to the other flagships, no wireless charging, no IP Rating, meh battery life, meh cameras and slow rollout of security updates, now that I've used multiple brands, this phone made me realise, OP is no longer worth it, at least for me, it is still a great phone don't get me wrong, but just imagine, I've seen Samsung S20 Plus going for £750 and this is a week after being on sale, now imaging when OP8 comes out, the current flagships will be even cheaper and probably better then the OP8, for less :/ they sure need all the paid reviewers to hype this brand, because they have settled for high prices and meh features. There is a simple solution though, release at the same time as Samsung and then the prices will make sense, waiting for OP, means cheaper real flagships.
This is just my opinion, would like to hear your thoughts about this.
There is no other phone that compares. Price for what specs you get. Not sure why people complain about getting updates every month. We get it at least bi-monthly.
From what I see, the Pixel 4XL and Galaxy S10 Plus are both around $900 compared to the OnePlus at $600. That's already a big difference right there. I don't know about Sonys devices. I don't think they are all that popular in the U.S. My device is on the February security patch. Along with the apparent statement that they are doing bi-monthly updates, the coronavirus has also probably slowed things down a bit. I came from an LG V30 and if you want to talk about slow updates, look no further than LG. Is the phone the best device available? No. But overall, I think this is the best option in this price range. And I have nothing to complain about.

I did that is why I'm saying that the OP7T is just meh, for cheaper prices you get better phones, OOS is nice don't get me wrong, the OS is very fast, but just wished for a better battery, camera and other perks like IP rating, here in the UK it rains a lot, so any protection against that is welcome, at the moment I think the best Price to performance ration are Sony phones (used, like new condition), you get near stock Android, monthly updates and very good cameras (xperia 1 and 5 at least), all this for less then £300, my only complaint about Sony is the fingerprint placement, could not get use to it, that was the reason for selling it.
And don't believe that OP is a small company, they want to make you think that, but they're owned by BBK, one of the biggest phone companies at the moment.

Ok, not a oneplus salesman, but i think i should say this:
- First you should not compare the prices of used phones with new ones, that's simply not fair. 400 pounds for a note 10? New? Nah.
- Better camera? K, it may not be the very best, but i think it's quite competent.
- IP rating? Is that you really want? Just because they haven't IP rating, doesn't mean they aren't water proof. Oneplus is water proof at least 2 or 3 models ago.
For me, having fast, fluid and clean OS beats any spam that samsung or other brands have on their phones. I got a xiaomi phone months ago. Waiting 2 weeks (sometimes even more) just to unlock the bootloader? Nah... K, the camera is good, but then, the software is just meh.

I agree with you, I prefer the OnePlus fluid OS over Samsung and any other phone out there and not too mention here in the US OnePlus is much cheaper, and people forget that this Corona virus played a huge part with OnePlus being delayed on their updates, before all of this I could of sworn they was on point with their updates that I could remember unless I'm mistaken. Samsung makes great phone but their software is meh, same with other phone manufacturer, if it ain't stock Android I don't want it, I'm already too spoiled with it.
I just got a T-Mobile OP7T that was $499. It is currently on February security patch. I will be switching to Beta once I get the unlock bin. Beta 2 in on March security patch.
To me every phone I look at is a comprise somewhere. I care about the software experience the most so I go for oneplus. Im not a fan for samsung UI. This is the best camera Ive had on a smart phone but im coming from Moto X4 and OP6T. The camera is sufficient for my personal needs. You do you. I enjoy my OP7T but get the phone that works best for you.

Being a developer friendly device ia the number 1 advantage. Price vs performance is the 2nd for me. If you researched before buying the 7t about wireless charging and ip rating, then you are at fault. The battery life is phenomenal for me because i know what im installing and what not.
Go get urself an iphone. I feel like oneplus 7t is too complicated for you.

Being a developer friendly device ia the number 1 advantage. Price vs performance is the 2nd for me. If you researched before buying the 7t about wireless charging and ip rating, then you are at fault. The battery life is phenomenal for me because i know what im installing and what not.

Uhh someone got offended... I've been flashing and repairing phones for 10 years and nowadays, there's no real advantages to flashing custom ROMs, they are sometimes unstable, you lose some functionality (Android Pay, banking apps, etc) and camera quality takes a hit (most times), nowadays keeping the bootloader locked is just fine, GCAMs work great on most phones now, customisation is also possible without rooting, so what do you need custom ROMs nowadays? If Price vs Performace and dev friendly is what you want, Xiaomi phones are way cheaper, yes you have to wait a while to get the bootloader unlocked, but once that time has passed, you normally have great Dev support, with great Pixel Experience ROMs.
iOS sure I use them sometimes, but I get bored of them quickly and I have enough experience with multiple brands to get to this conclusion, I got the 7t to see what the fuss was all about, I knew what I was going to get into in terms of features and that is why I was expecting more. In the used marked this brand is not worth it, that's all I'm saying, I always buy used, never going to pay for a new phone if used they are so much cheaper and look like new, if I was looking into a new OP7T and a new S10+ I get it, but in the used marked, there's so better alternatives.

This.... Obviously you dont know what you are doing in order to fix those "functionality". Lots of stuff you can do to fix those. You might be one of those thinking that oh ill buy the 7t cause they said she said he said. and then vents out its not perfect. lmao.
What it all boils down to is personal preference. Personally I would buy a used OP over any other used phone, especially Samsung. Do they make excellent devices, yes, without doubt. But their OneUI or whatever the OS skin they are using is a huge drawback IMO. A dedicated button for a personal assistant that the average user can't remap... it just doesn't make sense to me. I don't like when something that should be an option is forced upon me like that. My wife loves Samsung phones. She has the s10 but hates the bixby button. I had the 6t but broke the screen. So I was using my wife's previous Note 8 phone for a month or two until the 7t was released. I was able to remap the bixby button with a pc and adb. My wife would never have been able to figure that out and I'm assuming most Samsung users don't have any idea what remapping hardware buttons even means. The only good phone I remember LG releasing was the Nexus 5.... again personal opinion. For me cameras aren't a big deal... I can honestly tell you that if I take pictures of my kids opening presents on either my 7t or my wife's s10 and then post them to social media not 1 person will say "OMG what kind of phone took those ****ty/awsome photos!" Nobody will be able to tell or care enough to scrutinize each and every picture. I was not huge into photography before smart phones and I still am not. I take pictures during certain events in my life.. Not for photo competitions. IP rating.. OP has addressed this many times. The only reason they have not gotten certified is bc the cost would trickle down to the consumer. Their phones have been waterproof for a couple generations now... just w/o the sticker that says so.. kinda like a marriage license. If you get married, but lose the piece of paper that proves it, does that mean I am no longer married? I'm sure my wife would strongly disagree. The other drawback I hear ppl complain about is wireless charging. I personal don't care.. I charge my phone @ night or in the car... granted I did buy the warp car charger and it's awesome... but other then that I don't care... It takes maybe 2 seconds to plug in my phone rather then just set it down... have we really got that lazy? I bought my wife a wireless charging pad for her Samsung phones... and she doesn't use it.. ever. Don't ask me why.. I've asked... but she doesn't know why. For me personally it's all about the user experience or the software. I don't flash custom roms anymore.. but alot of ppl do. OnePlus is very Dev friendly. I do however root my phone with Magisk. If I purchase a phone, any, phone that is my property. If I want to get into the system files and **** everything up that is my choice. It is becoming damn near impossible to have that choice on other brands especially Samsung. Its even getting harder on OP devices... but nothing like Samsung. Not being able to root a phone that I paid for... that is my property.. Is a complete deal breaker for me. It is also why I will never buy any phone that is Verizon branded. So I guess I will end where I started.. It all boils down to personal preference. I didn't realize this was so long lol... sorry
Yeah, i agree, but most people don't care root stuff. They just want a ready to use phone.
I am feeling a bit fed up with so many google apps on the phone....

You're a privileged guy in a privileged country.
From where I am, all the other phones you mentioned are at around twice the price of the OnePlus 7T, brand new.
The only other value for buck phones we have here are Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and Realme.
this brand is expensive because you're being robbed of {long list of features} and their software developments costs are near zero. what's next. remove display? stop creating 1+ wallpapers per model to save few more bucks? hard to believe an alternative "flagship" brand does opposite of what such companies normally did - remove SD card, jack, Qi, Qc, IP etc. Exactly opposite to #NeverSettle slogan.
personally i'm going to suffer with 7T model for couple of months til Xperia 1.2 comes. That's how i imagine a flagship: no bs notch, bezels to finally hold your phone better, SD, jack, Qi, IP, 21:9 screen.. all perfect. 100% flagship.
however there are superlatives about OnePlus brand:
* battery - best of the market
* speed - best of the market
* community support or rootabilty - best of the market
some tech advances were great : they got fast refresh screens sooner, they got under display fingerprint sooner (samsung's still doesn't work well while generations 6T -> 7 -> 7T -> 8 already exist) and "invisible features" are still premium (wifi speeds, call clarity, speakers performance etc).
camera is great. so what's missing?
all i hate is iphone style removing of features and lowcost brand style of not paying for licences. i hate having 10 Qc3 chargers and not being able to charge the phone fast in any location because they don't want to pay the licence. i hate having Qi charger next to bed and not able to comfortably place the phone on it, and pick it up multiple times without struggle of using cable.
so what's the direction of the brand then?
90hz/120hz is already boring and no new innovation in sight.
well.. they have to go back to the roots.
model 8 will bring "back" wireless charging and IP68.
and if no more innovation in next iteration, they will have to bring SD card and jack.
