We need a custom kernel asap can anybody do something? - Xiaomi Mi 8 SE Guides, News, & Discussion

Don't ask for gsi ROMs working or fully working twrp unless someone develops a custom kernel for mi 8 se só lets help each other and make a custom kernel for mi 8 se

asking someone to build something "As Soon As Possible" ???

Xiaomi just released kernel for Android P:
https://github.com/MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource/tree/grus-p-oss/
I've tried to compile that source and everything working good now (unlike previous Android O kernel which 2nd camera not working in Portrait mode and sound is broken when turn off display). Here is my compile kernel with a lot tweaks now can be change in EX Kernel Manager (KCAL, fsync, iosched, block wakelocks...) to gain more battery and performance, I've only tested with MiuiPro 9.3.1 and EU 9.3.1 but this kernel should work with all MIUI roms based on Android 9.0.
Kernel features:
Compiled with GCC 8.2.1, mtune=cortex-a75.cortex-a55 (best for Kyro 385 arch.)
KCAL Advanced Color Control
KLAPSE
Min Backlight Control
Fsync Control
Vibration Control
CRC Check Disabled
Reduced latency 6ms to 5ms
Disabled Gentle Fair Sleepers
Power Efficient Workqueues
LZ4 Compression Algorithm (default)
Westwood TCP Algorithm (default)
Boeffla wakelock blocker
More I/O scheduler: fiops, sio, mapple, zen, tripndroid, anxiety (default).
kgsl: Removed POPP / Wake GPU upon receiving an ioctl rather than upon touch input.
Added devfreq boost driver and cpu input boost driver.
Added more buffer to enhance EIS.
CONFIG_HZ=300
Workqueue powersaving.
Enable deepest state for CPU cluster.
Boost to the max for 1s whenever the top app changes (improves app launch speeds).
Zipped up with AnyKernel2.

For Mi8 SE. Xiaomi use same source for both Mi8 SE and Mi9 SE but this kernel use Mi8 SE config to build source.

Thanks for your awesome work for our device.
I tried it on Xiaomi.eu 10.2.2 stable version, it didn't boot. After restoring boot partition phone boots but your kernel is gone.
Tried with magisk 18.2 installed, after that I uninstalled magisk and tried again but no luck

You can try with MiuiPro 9.3.1 in this link (it's based on Miui China developer version with a lot tweak, enhancement... more than Xiaomi.eu, also it's paid version).
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ZjhLU6Sj7D83g7q2P86r34hek-j3gW2N
I'm using MiuiPro as my daily driver atm so I can't switch to other rom to test my kernel.

Tried with miui eu 9.3.1 booted fine

You can add performance tweaks like overclock CPU and GPU update to 4.9.161 or later battery tweaks and make it compatible with aosp ROMs thanks

Installed on masik 2.6 (9.2.28) didn't try any tweaks on ex kernel. Kcal is not working with savoca.apk but phone is working smoothly so far

I've tried overclock GPU from 504Mhz to 610Mhz but phone insta freeze after boot completed, I think overclock not available for SDM710 (maybe they use efuse lock to prevent clock going higher than default, as SDM710 actually a downclock version of SDM845). For kernel upstream, 95% changes will not affect any performance or bring new feature for Qualcomm ARM64 cpu.

savoca is too old (last update from 2015), you must use EX kernel manager to change KCAL (in Graphics -> Advanced color control).

Will this work on gsi treble img thanks

You should do a group on telegram where anyone can contribute with ideas to the kernel and show updates on the group

Maybe you downloaded a corrupt zip file of MiuiPro 9.3.1 rom (which cause Error 7 when flashing rom in TWRP), that will make wifi doesn't work. I got that corrupt file too and I've fixed that corrupt file and reuploaded again to GDrive in above link.

I downloaded from your link.
It works like a charm, thanks :good:

good ! When is the complete AOSP package?

does it works for pe?

Updated new kernel date 03/13 with KLAPSE live display module added, you can use EX Kernel Manager 4.08 to control KLAPSE settings,

I don't do anything in particular to prevent it. I have the stock LK4 Samsung boot logo. Give it a try. Worse that happens is you lose the boot animation and have to go back to stock.

That's because custom boot animation support is part of the kernel but a few lines have to be added to init.rc and init.qcom.rc in the ramdisk in order to get custom animations to work. I've personally had a really difficult time trying to crack it in the JB kernel...the process is different and not as easy as it was in with ICS kernel releases.
Also I'm very interested in this kernel. I've been looking for something basic. Stock with undervolting and a nice governor like intellidemand to go with it. Thanks so much for this.

B14CKB1RD now comes with F2FS Support and has the ability to run on any rom that supports it. I have also removed prebuilt synapse from the kernel as you can now safely get updates for it and install from playstore itself (or use whatever one you want of your choice but i will not support those that have issues using other tweak tools...you have been warned). Below are a list of my personal settings and preferences that i use with synapse:
on first opening of synapse there is a checkmark and an X at the top..go ahead and hit the checkmark before anything
On CPU Tab: I set max frequency to 1958 Mhz and hit checkmark to apply
On CPU VOLT Tab: On the cpu global voltage i drop it down to -25 and hit checkmark to apply
On SOUND Tab: I changed from "Custom" profile to "Quality". Hit the checkmark and youll see the heaphones and speaker drop to -2. Move them both to 4 or 5 (depending how loud you want them) and then hit checkmark to apply. (this actually produces great loud sound)
On BUILD.PROP Tab: I changed wifi scan interval from "15" to "150" then hit checkmark to apply.
thats exactly how i have it set and running and runs top notch for me. Hope you all enjoy.

I personally Prefer the use of Trickster MOD for kernel tuning. if you want to switch to using trickster i recommend removing built in kernel tweaking app if possible. I used rom toolbox's app manager to do so. Trickster can be found on Play Store or on xda.
For roms that support DoubleTap2Wake: make sure it is enabled and checked in Settings > Display and if using Trickster MOD under the "specific tab" tap on "Screen Wake Control" and set it to 1 for bottom half enable or 2 for fullscreen. Don't go any higher in number as it wont set anything. after your done tap on the checkmark at the top right to apply and save
For frequency changes to stick: In Trickster Mod, change to the frequency you want and tap on "Frequency Lock" to enable it and tap on the checkmark at the top right to apply and save
Notes::
This Kernel will only work on roms which use the latest most up to date kitkat source code for your phone and the N5 audio driver adaptation from dr87. I honestly dont plan on this changing at this time and please make sure you meet the requirements before saying this kernel does not work for you. Thanks and enjoy!!!
This kernel moves like a champ. The new update is liquid smooth.Speaking of liquid smooth, the kernel + ROM is an indestructible COMBO!
Thank you for maintaining this for us!

Seems to have quite a bit of Governers, I/O Schedulers, TCP Congestion Controls, I am a noob, is there a manual to all of these different options?
I am using T-Mobile and I want to get good battery life and good LTE throughput and performance too, but how can anyone know what to even look at or pick when they are confused, yes I tried Google, very limited in what I could find, older explanations to older stuff and nothing much new as I see you have described above.
Overclock options? Since it has n5 audio drivers, we have to make sure ROM uses n5 too right?
So far so good, its like butter!
As a friendly reminder, I'm sure it would be helpful to the developer, as well as interested parties, to include the ROM and variant in reporting results.

Thanks for the support.
Edit: I've just used MD5 checker, and none of them are matching. Thoughts?

I think there is a thread somewhere on the xda that tells u about all the governers. Google it
I can't seem to manage any of the hotplugs.
All cores stay online and when I do get them to offline they won't come online.
Very strange. I use Kernel Adiutor

Should be better though little cores will come up if a task is assigned to them this generally happens when the device is heated as the frequencies are not altered that time and run low

With this type of kernel, is tweaking really necessary anymore? The GPU boost enabled by default or should I install a manager to enable?

Gpu boost is set to the lowest of the three settings, where it takes action, by default.
Exkm is only needed to set cpu, gpu freqs other than mine. Or to set another tcp congestion algorithm if you face any problems with westwood.
Kcal may come in quite handy too.
also you can change io scheduler to another one I enabled. (deadline, maple, tripndroid) cfq is patched up a bit to work better so I left it at that even tough it is the stock setting already.
Did you personally select the new volt tables or did you leave it open for us to control from our selected app? Just wondering! I love your work so i cant wait to flash this

It isn’t adjustable for the user by any app. The voltage range (adjusted by me) the kernel can choose from for all frequencies is hardcoded in the kernel at compilation.

It’s since the 64 bit architecture dropped, that qualcomm started to introduce something like intelligent, automatic voltage scaling. The device will automatically and intelligently pick the most appropriate voltage for a frequency on a given scenario.
I actually saw an attempt to make it adjustable by the user again but it required to partly disable it and make it more static again on github at some point if I remember correctly. But this attempt didn’t prove to be stable and I think in general less desirable.
Oh i didnt know it had to do with the move the 64 bit. Thats interesting! Id rather have the SoC/System selecting the voltage rather than myself anyway
