Are you a former A1 user and now using the A2? - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

Hi,
As I consider to purchase an A2 and I wonder which pros and cons there are from the perspective of a former A1 user.
Which are the improvements?
Which are the disappointments coming from an A1?
Thank you very much in advance

I had A1 before A2 lite. Here are pros and cons for A2 lite. I got A2 lite only because of size and smaller bezels, but i hope to upgrade to MI 9 SE if it'll have global launch.
Pros:
- larger display size
- smaller bezels
- smaller device size
- larger battery
Cons:
- micro USB
- almost none custom ROM development

Yes, it gives you more mileage, but i think that full potential will be seen after we'll have custom ROMs.
Also i forgot to mention one more con: notch is sometimes annoying because when you have multiple icons/notifications in status bar it changes it to one dot because it doesn't have enough space for all icons and it's annoying when it does it almost every second for some period of time (because of network changes arrow or other changes). I don't know if you know what i'm talking about

I don't know if I know what you're talking about either.
Oh indeed, I can imagine that the small notification area is annoying.
It looks as If I keep my A1.
How do the cameras compare?
Thanks again!

I don't use camera very often and when i do i use stock camera app. So i can't compare picture quality. On A1 i used gcam but as far i can see there isn't fully working gcam for Pie roms, so i'm too lazy to search for the best working cam app.

Here's another one.
That's why I never upgraded my A1 since Fall '18. Too lazy to sort this Pie stuff w/ GCAM which is a must compared to the crappy X stock cam app.
Missing the FM radio app though.
Today the A2 lite arrived. Liked on first glance but Pie is not my piece of cake.
I still miss the old HTC UI as it was on my HTC M7.
(Reminds me a little about how I felt when Windows became unavoidable after having used Apple ][ DOS, CPM, MS-DOS. )
Damned I sound like my lovely grandmother!

I upgraded A1 to pie but i can't remember what i did with gcam :silly: and soon i bought a2 lite.
i think that stock aosp still doesn't have enough features like custom roms, aosp like lineage os would be great  and now miui looks very good, they have almost all aosp features + xiaomi ones
mi a2 lite would be perfect if they put features like amoled screen, nfc, usb type c. i was happy when mi8 se launched, but was very dissapointed when they annouced it will be only for china. so now i'm hoping mi9 se will be available for global market.
hahaha games for dos were dope.

OnePlus or Xiaomi Mi 6

Hi All!,
I am a current OnePlus 3t user, and it's a great phone. I was looking to get a new phone for 2 main reasons:
The space on the OnePlus I have is limitted to 64 Gb, I am running out.
With the new Snapdragon 835 out, I thought I'd look for a phone with that if I were to upgrade.
So I thought I'd check out the OnePlus 5, however the price of it put me off. Having done some research, I really like the look of the Xiaomi Mi 6. However there are a few things that are still making me reconsider:
The reviews I have seen have commented the software is buggy. It crashes and stops working at times. The software on the OnePlus 3T just works. I've not had any problems. If I get the Mi6, will it be a case of buying a buggy phone?
Also with the software, I've never used MiUi, and personally I like the simplicity and near stock Android on the OnePlus. How big of a change is the MiUi and is it customisable?
Does the Mi6 have the ability to capture RAW images?
Thanks in advance! :good:
I migrated quickly to Xiaomi.EU ROM when I purchased Mi6, although I didn't have any problem with (fake) supplied ROM.
I've used my mom's 3T for quite a bit, and the stock Android feel of OxygenOS and frequent and fast update from OnePlus is the big... plus.
MIUI, on the other hand, has very bad notification handling. It feels like you're using Android 4.2/4.4 something. You can't swipe left/right on the lockscreen notifications to make them go away, nor you can't expand it nicely like in pure android (You can do it on notification shade however, using 2 fingers, but the experience just sucks). I tried floatify to emulate the notification in stock android, but it's not enough.
MIUI for Mi6 hasn't provided RAW capture capability AFAIK.
OnePlus 5 has released their kernel source, so dev can easily start working custom ROM on that. But Xiaomi has been notorious keeping the kernel source for a long time (about 6 months+ on previous flagship), that makes the non-MIUI based ROM harder to develop.
I'm currently trying to get LineageOS installed on my Mi6, I'll post more on that LineageOS thread maybe tomorrow evening or the day after.
There is always some plus and minus. I’ve been using Xiaomi 5 Pro and I’m very happy {:m034:}
I used to have One+1 and One+3. Both were great phones.
With perfect Quality/Price factor. Even with EU prices:-/
Now I had been waiting for One+5 and all-around I’m very disappointed wit it.
Reason?
USB 2, No OIS, Software AND Price for EU!!!
It’s not the Flagship killer anymore, it starts to be exclusive peace of equipment.
My main decision point (quality/price factor) dropped down rapidly.
I really prefer MIUI in comparison to Cyanogen (1+1) or OxygenOS (1+3).
With weekly Globe-Roms upgrade (http://mi-globe.com) I’m really satisfied. Mi 5 works very smooth.
OK., it’s with open boot loader and rooted, but all my phoned have been same way in the past
(and will be in future )
I do not remember what I used in the first case, but in 1+3, I changed it to Resurrection Remix ROM.
I agree that all Oneplus society forum support is great. Same with software developers.
I hope that here in MIUI world it will be the same soon.
Especially that after all comparisons of my own, I decided to order Mi 6, 6/128 one.
))
Without any doubt the mi6, and specially if you can buy it at 369USD in some aliexpress offers.
I just Got the Mi 6 pro. Fresh in my hand. It looks great, and feels excellent. It's running very smooth at the moment but hey, is brand new.
I have my 3t on hand.
I think most of the comments are correct. One plus updates quick esp of your on the beta stream, it's smooth and you don't have to deal with MIUI overlay - the OnePlus launcher is excellent.
The Mi 6 is very emotional - what the 3T has and the 5 does not.
Practically, get the 5....you know what to expect. The Mi6 feels great though.....!
I have to edit this: having had the phone for a week - the Mi6 is the smoothest, fastest phone in town right now, period, including the S8 Plus. It's very slick indeed, very, very quick, had an excellent camera and great Sound.
It's very difficult to put the Mi6 down and pick up any of the other phones.

On the same boat. I have been reading about the touchscreen delay problems, bluetooth connectivity and some other bugs and i am hesitant to do the leap of faith on mi6.
One plus 5 on the other hand has such community and gets so many updates that you are sure that software problems will be fixed as soon as possible.

If you find bugs on MI 6,you can tell the developers of Xiaomi to fix them.
I got both the op5 and Mi6, the op5 has an real deal-breaker with the "jelly screen" design flaw. As for now there is no fix and oneplus says its "natural". So the Mi6 is an better choice for me.

i recon that bluetooth bugs have existed with the launch and they are yet to get a 'fix'.
Updates for global seem non existant but on the other hand thats what you get for the mi series. Xiaomi is pretty great for international devices, mainly speaking about the redmi series. Rest seem to be left untouched(Mi mix, note 2, mi5 s etc).
I am gonna hold myself from buying this yet.

Xiaomi MI6 or Huawei P10?

I'm looking to buy new phone, now I have Redmi note 4 global edition, but I want smaller size phone. Headphone jack is not important for me.
I can get Xiaomi for about 436 $ and Huawei p10 for 500 $
I don't know what to buy.
check gsmarena for comparison hardware-wise. but i would get the p10 since they are nicer with kernel sources and its a better looking phone imo. i have the mi6 now...
consider the complain between these 2, P10 is better.
Ps. i have Mi6 , not so bad but not feel like top phone
Did anyone of you used P10 ? I'm little scared only for battery life, because miui is nicely optimised for battery consumption.

Huawei recently released their source for kernel.
So roms should be on their way!
https://www.xda-developers.com/kernel-sources-released-for-the-huawei-mate-9-and-huawei-p10/
While we havent heard anything from Xiaomi and it has been about 6months since the release of the mi 6
Huawei released the kernel sources 4 months ago, still not an single aosp/linage rom...
Way better on the Mi6 even without the kernel sources.
Looking back at the time frame of previous kernel sources drops: we should expect an release in October.

+1
all depends on the dev support, just look at honor 8 and 9.
Mi6 is better. I had P9 and huawei release kernel sources and what? One dev make lineage os which works worser than the worst custom rom on mi5. But EMUI is ok, like miui.
Had P10,overheating,bad battery life due to old CPU as well as GPU performance & throttling make Mi6 a clear winner here. Also there was no oleophobic coating and u risk getting a model with anciennt memory speeds(it's a lottery,i ended up with slow one).

Still, kirin phones don't have much dev love and popularity around developers as Snapdragon does. Xiaomi mi 6 will have by far better and more roms than any huawei phone.
The Honor 9 might be another option, since it's slightly cheaper than the P10, depending on where you are.
I have the Mi6 and love it. It's the best phone I've owned. It has the fastest SD processor, a great display, great sound, a great camera, fast charging, and a notification LED.
Since I was curious, I recently purchased a OnePlus 5. Even using the Google camera app, the OP5's photos weren't as good as the Mi6's. The Mi6's colours were far more natural and true to life, especially the skin tones and colours on trees. The OP5 felt huge, too.
The Honor 9 (and probably the P10) seems very similar to the Mi6, but it seems slightly inferior in every category. If you compare GSM Arena's reviews, the Honor's processor is slightly slower, battery charging takes longer, the battery is smaller, there's less RAM in the cheapest variant, there's no Gorilla Glass and the 1080P videos are inferior. MIUI seems to receive more updates than EMUI, too.
Yeah MIUI got more updates. Just one problem i have with MIUI, expandable notifications on lockscreen and in list, you can do it with two fingers but that's. Hope they will implement that in the future updates.

Battery is laughable comparing to Mi6
Too many people not knowing what they re talking about are writing in this topic.
mi6 is a clear winner
P10 camera might be a little bit better... Might.
But nothing beats the Mi 6 with battery. Nothing.

MI 6 vs MI A1

Hello guys,
I need your honest opinion.
I need to get a new device. I only use blackberry old phone at this moment.
I am thinking of mi 6 or mi A1? Which one do you think is better?
I am thinking a1 for the price and stock android (what I love with oneplus before) but I like also to have snapdragon 835 and EIS for camera.
EIS also affect the quality of normal photos or videos only? I have shaky hands by the way.
Please advice.
Pricing:
mi a1 = 749 aed
mi 6= 1399 aed
Thanks guys
Mi 6 is better

Which custom ROM would you recommend? I couldn't find any with a battery performance and camera as good as the original one...
Mi 6 is flagship grade. A1 is midrange grade. The answer is very obvious.
imo
Brother! I have both the me A1 and the Mi 6 and the MI6 is so awesome and way better than the A1. Don't get me wrong, I like the A1 but the Mi 6 is so much faster and has many custom roms. If you look for the Mi A1 right now in the XDA forums there are no ROMs as of yet! The size of the Mi 6 is also much better than the size of the A1! I promise you brother!! You cannot go wrong with Mi 6!. It is an absolute pleasure to hold and to use!! And the dual firing speakers makes this a special beast! I personally love the MI6. I am selling my Mi A1
mi 6 is the best choice bro, good luck
Yep I had both the mi 6 was smaller in hand and snappier. Battery life similar on miui. Cam was also better
Mi6 my choice
I'd say if stock is more important to you and you dont mind weaker hardware - Mi A1.
You can install custom rom on mi6, but there will be bugs.
When my nexus died, I needed a replacement phone quick and A1 was not available. Having played with mi6 for a few month now, I'd probably bought A1 if I had a choice... or OnePlus5

Basically two reasons:
I used custom aosp rom on nexus 4 when official support ended and while it works, you need to jump through some hoops to get everything working and wipe the phone (cba).
There is no Oreo roms. Updates will be late at least and most likely there will be bugs.
I know I should just get a pixel, but google has some issues with displays it seems.

Regular sized pixel 2 display is fine. Just the XL if seems.
So don't let it put you off.
Gf has it and is very happy and it is a little bit better than my mi 6 for software updates etc.
Performance is barely better like scrolling in chrome looks nice but google on Google will always be better with their optimizations.
If you need a performance device get one with the SD 835 its an amazing chip.
Blazing fast and no heat even on custom ROMs on Mi 6

What to buy Nokia6.1 (2018) or xiaomi A1

Guys,
can u pls help me to decide what to buy? Camera quality is also important to me (i dont mind that nokia dosent have dual camera)
Thank you
That is really hard to say, it is I think clearly personal opinion, I like Nokia more, the design is great, also it is a newer device with Treble support. In this comparison Nokia has better CPU, a bit. Here is also some comparison for photos.
the big thing for me

Xiaomi A1 is also Android One device
I came from A1. Definitely get the Nokia - more reliable updates, longer battery life, less bugs, that don't get fixed like never, native camera2api enabled, better look and design...

Hello Guys.. A few questions until my phone is bought:

I'm gonna hit myself in the balls and buy the Mi A2 Lite (I owned a Mi A1 phone but I broke it) and I want to check out this phone because why not? (Don't say it)
Did XIAOMI fixed their mistakes with the Mi A1? Missing EIS, broken updates etc.
People who already have the phone:
How is it? Good or bad for that price range? (I know I could get a better phone for the same amount of money so don't say it)
If anyone had a Mi A1 is anything better with Mi A2 Lite than with Mi A1?

Well, I don't know about the Mi A1, but I've been using the A2 Lite for a few days and everything looks great...if you can get the 64/4 for 180-200$ or the 32/3 for a bit less it's good enough.
You could get better phones, for me android one is the deal-breaker. I just like stock android, and hate OEM's skins.
Battery life is really good, camera is ok, no laggy UI and it's updated to the latest security patch (August 5th).
If Android One is what you're looking for then yes, this phone is good for it's price range.
It's not a camera phone, but it takes nice photos if the light allows it, and is not a gaming phone, but gets the job done on my day to day use (which consists in no social apps installed, only Boost for Reddit and Whatsapp)
For the most part is a smaller A1 with a bigger battery.
I come from an S8, and I don't miss a single thing. Maybe the USB-C, but I couldn't care less. I needed a phone with near to stock Android, good battery life and comfortable size. This is it. If you have other needs, you can get something else for sure!

1- I don't know. If I'm not wrong, no EIS by default, but with GCam I got some nice video stabilization compared to stock camera.
Only two OTA updates until now, both installed without problems, and they both come regularly in the second half of the month.
2- As you said, you can get better phones for the same money. The main reason I bought this phone is the 72 mm width, that you won't find at this price with all the features of Mi A2 Lite.
3- I don't have Mi A1 but the main differences with A2 Lite are the dimensions (A1 bigger than A2 Lite), the battery (3000 mAh on A1 vs 4000 mAh on A2 Lite) and the screen (regular 16:9 A1 vs 18:9 with notch on A2 Lite).

Too early to tell with the software but it does come with Treble so that is a bonus, It does see like EIS is included in the video and seems to work.

Coming from a OnePlus 5, I wanted something smaller and this was one of the few devices under ~72mm. The 625 is sufficient for everything I do (Mostly Calls, Texting, Youtube & Social Media) (No Games). Camera is acceptable, not great not unusable. 4000mAh is just an awesome bonus. Phone is nice and loud. The only other device that caught my eye is the Nokia 6.1 Plus but I'm skeptical because the camera might be worse, isn't widely available and audio quality is questionable.

Phone still kind of big prefer it was a bit narrow and shorter.
Yeah same here but there aren't many options.
I've just ordered the Lite from Amazon. I've had an A1 for 2 days, but it seems broken so is going back. Main reasons for not going full A2 are the battery, I have a million micro USB cables, and the size. I don't need a top end phone, so for £155 and Google One, the lite is a total bargain.
