Hardbricked mi Max 3 - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Questions & Answers

I ****ed up.
I was coming from miui weekly eu version, I wanted to flash a GSI image. I did in twrp, GSI pixel experience arm a only. Didn't boot further till mi logo. So fastboot flashed miui10 stable and booted till setup screen. Boot asked for a password after GSI boot. So I wanted to try a different GSI and reflashed. Didn't work also. Again fastboot flashed miui10, this time I forgot to unselect 'format and lock' didnt saw that. Now it won't boot in system and twrp, and also can't unlock bootloader anymore with mi unlocked as my phone is somehow not linked to my account anymore.
What am I supposed to do now?

Yes I tried flashing custom recovery. Says it can't flash it as my bootloader is not unlocked. Did the fastboot flash again because I wanted to do a deep clean flash again. But forgot to unselect the lock button. Now its locked and only booting in standard miui recovery and fastboot.

Why did you keep using fastboot to flash stock most of these need xiaomi.eu ROM as a base which can be flashed via twrp whatever version you use and it's because you chose flash all and lock hence your stuck now as can't unlock bootloader. I just recovered mine from ARB EDL brick as invought it cheap in that state. You need to flash a stock version version that's suitable to get stock working then attach your account in settings so bootloader unlock can work. My model was Chinese so I needed flash Chinese stock and started again. If your phone was originally Chinese start there then unlock the bootloader etc.

In a nutshell flash and lock with stock version for phone as if Chinese flash and lock won't work with a global stock ROM. Flash a Chinese stock to get back into system and start over again

Yes flash the latest official Chinese not global stock using mi flash tool as that will get your phone back up and running on stock. Then add your account in settings so bootloader unlock can see it. Enable dev setting tick OEM unlock and add account. Unlock your boot loader and your back again mate. If you could have unlocked your boot loader the global would boot but not while it's locked.
1. Flash latest CN firmware
2. Add account in settings after set up
3. Try bootloader unlock again should not have to wait if unlocked before
4. Flash twrp and keep copy of xiaomi.eu ROM on your micro SD card as that's all you need to flash in recovery to return to stock. It's flashed via recovery without errors

I tried the newest version of chinese rom: "nitrogen_images_V10.2.1.0.PEDCNXM_20190214.0000.00_9.0_cn". Same error. It simply can't flash it as my bootloader is locked......

Anyone who can fix this hard brick gets $10 worth of Bitcoin or Ethereum from me.

Hmmm, if you bootloader can be unlocked. I can help you because I hard-bricked my phone because of the Anti Rollback by flashing an earlier version of global pie beta over the current one (10.2.1.0). I had someone from the s-unlock website unbrick my device for me because my Mi account had no authorization to finish the Mi Flash process. So instead, the tech guy used his authorized mi account to bypass the Mi Flash install remotely on my computer to make my phone work again.

My account is verified but I am not signed into it on my phone as I can not boot into system.

Basically you need to flash the latest version of the Chinese stock miui but I haven't seen any tool that does that while bootloader is locked. You won't be able to unless you have bootloader unlocked. It bootloader gets unlocked phone will boot normal but your account should still been linked as phone was signed into it previously. Strange that it won't recognise your account when using the bootloader unlock tool

That is the problem. I was booted into system but skipped the option for logging into my mi account as it was only to get past the unlock screen. Then did the clean flash again but then with the flash all and lock then I couldn't boot into system anymore. I'm seriously in trouble now, I loved this phone. Thankfully I still have a Mi A1 which I use now but it kinda sucks tho.

I guess its the end for this device.
I cant boot into system. I cant flash TWRP as my bootloader is locked (Token verify failed).

re locking bootloader is possible. flash raw firmware. or flashing boot, recovery, fastboot and ifwi images.
@DarkshadoW99 very first of all you started new thread without searching around. and if you started a new thread your post is too confusing or lacking the context of your post. unable to understand what you actually want.
very first of all while unlocking bootloader with unofficial method. you may get error " failed too many links" but even though bootloader is unlocked pretty well.. ( mention which tool you are using to unlock bootloader)
second thing is you stated that you are trying to unlock bootloader to access recovery. what does it actually mean? do you want to flash custom recovery or your are unable to enter recovery mode?
"in marshmallow if you boot with unlocked bootloader the phone stuck on asus logo" what does this line means? are you stuck at asus logo? as far as i know you can boot in MM with unlocked bootloader too. unable to understand what you wanted to say.
Go back to Lollipop for bootloader unlock

Since there isn't any OFFICIAL unlocker for Zenfone 2 Marshamallow, your best bet is to go back to Lollipop abd having an unlocked bootloader but again, it'll be without Marshmallow:
Download official firmware latest release or whatever you had BEFORE installing LineageOS. Rename the the file you just downloaded to:
MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip
Click to collapse
and put it on an SD-Card, put the sd card in your phone, boot into recovery (by booting to fastboot and selecting recovery) and the restore should start automatically.
Now at this point you'd be back to stock marshmallow and you can downgrade back to Lollipop ( V52.20.40.197--be mindful the link is for the JP SKU and you need to download the right SKU version for your phone in case you have WW --didnt see you specify or not, so maybe you want to check you downloaded the right Lineage OS as well as maybe thas why its freezing ) to use Asus' Unlocker.apk [You can find instructions on official Asus website under support]

That's a very valid point, but since his post is vague and quite confusing, unless Lineage has a function within the ROM to "relock the bootloader" I would've assumed he "relocked the bootloader" by installing/fastboot flashing some official boot.img and since he cant get into recovery and his bootloader is locked, I had imagined he'd be back to stock fastboot.
but meh, my guess is as good as any. Unless the OP adds some clarity, we can at least say we tried, amirite?

Stucked in Fastboot mode

Hi Guys,
I am stucked at fastboot mode afterb trying to flash back to China Rom,how to get out of it?
Thanks in advance.
Mi max 3 anti roll back, you mus flash last version to unbrick your device
1. This is not the right section for this question.
2. if you came from 8.8.23 China Beta you have Anti-rollback, which means that to move to china stable you would have to wait for the next china release and flash it from the updater app and not from fastboot. I know its annoying but its safe. If you are stuck in fastboot try flashing latest 8.8.23 China Beta from mi flasher
3. if you came from 8.8.9 China Beta, Try flashing 8.8.9 again
This happened me too today. My phone arrived with the fake global rom 9.6.4. I was flashing official Chinese rom v9.6.11.0 and got a message saying flash successful, however a window also popped up saying MiFlash stopped working and my phone was stuck on the fastboot screen then.
If you find a solution to this problem I would appreciate it and vice versa.

1- flash and boot to twrp
2- format data then wipe (system and cashes)
3- flash xiaomi.eu 8.8.9 or any release before that and reboot
4- use mi flashtool to flash any stable before 9.6.12 or beta before 8.8.17 and choose wipe all and lock in mi flashtool ( this is very important to unlock it your self later with official permission)

yes, most of the unlocked phones from retailers are unlocked without official authorization and that is the main reason for ADB/fast boot fails in some cases , I have MM1, MM2 and now MM3 and I know this by experience.

hi, you enlighten me so much. can i ask more? now what rom do u use in mi max 3? and why?
So to rectify, I tried to flash the official China ROM V.9.6.11 again. It did not flash properly again the 2nd time.
I then asked it to "flash and lock". Official China ROM flashed now and operating on my phone.
My plan is now to apply to have the phone OFFICIALLY unlocked, as it was obviously unofficially unlocked to put the fake Global ROM on it by the vendor, which caused a problem being stuck in Fastboot.
I do not mind waiting the 2 weeks, and once unlocked I will either put the Xiaomi.EU rom on it, or hopefully the official Global ROM will be released by that time.

You must relock and unlock with official mi permission to avoid fastboot flashing issues.
Where I can download the official rom to use mui flash?
Where i can find an explanation to use mui flash? Cause after lock the boot loader the phone is in bootloop...

in step (1) flash official twrp ( I used minimal adb v1.4.3), step (3) is to have correct firmware and avoid mi flasher fail and boot loop ( many guys try flashing directly from fake rom to China but ended up with bootloops)

Alright, so I am on China stable 9.6.11 with TWRP (not Xiaomi original recovery). When I flashed my latest ROM, I chose "clean all and lock (bootloader)" per your instructions and I applied for offical bootloader unlocking by downloading Xiaomi flash unlocking. I still have 500+ hours, but I was told when my bootloader is unlocked eventually, my user data will be erased again.
So will it be a better idea to flash global stable ROM first or wait for the official bootloader unlocking then flash global stable ROM?
Question: I have China Stable 9.6.12.0 on mine Max3. If I want to install the Global Version should I have to wait for Global Version equal version (9.6.12.0) or later? Os there any suggestion to flash the incoming Global 9.6.7.0 on mine (ARB suposed to be implemented in mine version)?

Bootloop after flahsing Magisk & no-verity zips

Hi,
I just tried to root my Mi Max 3 but got bootloop, what can I do?
I unlocked the device.
Then I flashed TWRP 3.2.0. nitrogen, devcie was encrypted then.
I flashed Magisk 18.1., rebooted, but bootloop.
I rebooted into TWRP again and flashed no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip and again Magisk 18.1 and rebooted, but bootloop only.
I did factory reset but bootloop only.
What am I suposed to do? Any help from you guys?
Thanks you very much !
download and install the latest twrp from nijel8. Make a wipe and install only a clean rom and magisk. Nothing more. It must work.
Tried magisk 18.0?
I use magisk 18.0 and official twrp 3.2.3.0.
Hi,
it didnt help unfortunately.
I think I first need to flash a stock firmware completely right? Then try another round with the suggested versions by you guys.
I downloaded stock ROM from Xiao Mi Website here: http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
It is named: nitrogen_global_images_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_20181218.0000.00_8.1_global
But when I try to flash it via fastboot mode and the help of Xiao Mi Flash Tool I get an error like this (attachment)
Any help?
Update: I just flashed official full rom named: miui_MIMAX3Global_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_885d8903d6_8.1.zip via TWRP and it didnt show any errors (but TWRP still installed, I expected stock revoery actually?!). I wiped cache and rebooted but still bootloop.
I am really not sure what to do now.
Update 2: I now was able to flash stock rom (nitrogen_global_images_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_20181218.0000.00_8.1_global) via fastboot mode (error like on screenshot didnt appear anymore, dont really know why) now phone is only booting into stock MIUI recovery and shows a red noteification: "This MIUI Version cant be installed on this device" -> Can anybode give me help please?
Update 3: Tried to unlock again but it fails due to my device is not bound to my MI Account, but how to add it to account as I cant boot it up anymore and go to the settings in android. Or do I need another FULL Rom? I read smth that this error (Rom cant be installed on this device) appears if one is trying to flash Global Rom instead of China ROM? Where to get this one? Dont know the difference actually But my phone had google services preinstalled
I now even downloaded the chinese full rom: Mi Max 3 China Stable ROM 10.0.6.0 – V10.0.6.0.OEDCNFH / MIUI 9 / fastboot / Android Oreo because I think maybe this was originally i nstalled (purchased phone in Indonesia which is black market)
but once I try to flash it, the mix flash tool tells me now erase is not allowed in locked mode. I need to unlock first? but how? Unlock bootloader is not possible due to device is not bound with my mi-account.
I am really lost know
current situation:
not able to flash china full rom because locked
not able to unlock because device not bound to mi-account
I amonly able to bootup into mi-stock reciovery and stock bootloader.
what can I do?

Can't you flash from stock recovery? Download recovery rom matching your stock recovery(china or global), save in microsd. Enter recovery and flash rom.
Edit: sorry, just checked. Not possible to select file from stock mi recovery.

I dont really know. AT least all google services were available. does this mean it has been the global base? I bought this phone in Indonesia were it is not available officially, only through some black market sellers in the malls. Maybe they also have used the chinese versions, unlocked and reflashed the global versions and then they sell it. So maybe it has been the chinese base originally but is sold out with the global version? On the devices backside is a sticker with IMEi, IMEI2, MEID and SN, does this say anything about the version?

Can't you flash from stock recovery? Download recovery rom matching your stock recovery(china or global), save in microsd. Enter recovery and flash rom.

I think not, in Stock Recovery which is now installed on the phone I only have Reboot, Wipe Data and Connect MIAssistant
How about this?

thanks a lot for this tip, bro. I am not sure because in this guide they say it will help you to flash a recovery? I am having stock recovery already installed. I need to reflash the correct Rom. Anyway, I will try it asap. Atm it fails due to bad internet connection in my hotel right now.
I will download following ROM: Chinese Stable: MIUI 10 V10.2.1.0.OEDCNXM as a .zip archive and will try to load it into the Mi Assistant tool and try to start flashing from there. OK? Will let you know about the result then.

Its for flashing rom. Use the recovery rom, not fastboot rom. What it means is that your recovery should match the rom. (MiRecovery china, recovery rom china. MiRecovery global, recovery rom global)
I dont know which recovery version you successfully flashed to phone, but i guess its china. Won't able too boot if device is locked and recovery is not original to phone aka china recovery.
Edit:from that thread, someone successfully flashed miui10. If you failed to do so, DO NOT try to flash miui9. Different ARB, will permanently brick device.

My recovery is at least in english language, does this help?
I just tried to flash the CN rom package mentioned in my last post with this MiAssistant Beta 3.0, but package verification failed:
Does this mean it is the wrong rom package and I simply need to download the other versions and test it with other ones and once erfification works fine I will know this must be the correct one? Or is this just another error i am know running into?
Any idea?
Many tanks!
PS: Many thanks for your update: I only tried to load miui_MIMAX3_V10.2.1.0.OEDCNXM_4f84ff82ea_8.1.zip into that Mi Assistant but verification failed, didnt do anything else so far.

I guess verification failed means not matching. You can try global rom. Btw, have you try wipe data. Maybe rom already flashed properly but data bug causes bootloop. Try wipe then reboot.

Yes, I also used this wipe feature in this Mi Assistant but unfortunately it did not help. After rebooting again bootup screen appears a bit longer and I can hear a short beep sound which let me think it will boot up properly but unfortunately it then restarts into recovery mode only.
well installed is this one: nitrogen_global_images_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_20181218.0000.00_8.1_global, which I flashed earlier today via mi flash tool.
Now I tried to flash miui_MIMAX3Global_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_885d8903d6_8.1.zip which should be the same, but verification failed, too.
Does it make sense?!
In this thread, there are many Stock Roms available:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max-3/how-to/rom-official-recovery-fastboot-roms-mi-t3827503
Shall I download all MIUI 10 Stable (Global and China) and try?

Global and china rom have their own signature. But different version always have same signature. If verification failed, I thought signature didn't match.
Now you have tried both global and china and still failed. I'm confused. I don't have any idea anymore..

Thanks anyway bobo9900 for assisting me. And I should not try to flash a MIUI 9 rom, yeah?
Argh, I really don't understand it. I just got this phone yesterday, unlocked and installed twrp and magisk by using a how.to especially for Mi Max 3 and ran into this issue, FU**. Why does this happen to me, I only did these simple steps. Phone for trash after 1 day already?
Anybody else there who can help me?

Confirm your version global or china, so other might able to help. Mine come locked with screen protector sticker in English without Chinese words. Box had 'global version' written in red sticker.
Semoga sukses bro..

well, now there is nitrogen_global_images_V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK_20181218. 0000.00_8.1_global installed on the phone.
Also the Mi Assistant tool recgnizes V10.2.1.0.OEDMIFK as currently installed. My box has pon backside some chinese signs, no teaser "Global version". I think it has been chinese but black market sellers flashed global roms already to fit the indonesian market.
But I just noticed that in this Mi Assistant tool I have the options "Flash" and "Quick FLash" (erase all data) and there they mention it will work with Miui 8 and 9. Seems this Assistant tool is not MIUI 10-ready?! And I couldnt find a newer version of this.
Maybe this is the reason why verification with MIUI 10 packages fails?

Read the last page, someone manage to re flash 10.0.2.0.
If you wanna flash old version, check ARB level first.

OK checked. Through fastboot check of ARB I get:
fastboot getvar anti
getvar:anti FAILED (remote: GetVar Variable Not found)
finished. total time: 0.016s
Wondering again why again an error lol
TRhrough opening flash_all.bat file I see:
CURRENT_ANTI_VER=4
fastboot %
which means I cant downgrade, ya?

Question Going back to CN Rom from Global

hey guys, successfully flashed the global rom over my redmagic 6 pro CN version but decided to go back to the CN rom, but when I try to install it via local update it results in a recovery boot loop and the only option is to do a factory reset, but when I do a factory reset, for some reason it goes back to the Global Rom. Any tips on what I need to do? thanks

Personally what I would do is extract the boot image from the CN rom zip and fastboot flash it after you flash the CN rom via local update. You will have to be bootloader unlocked of course. You can always relock after you've got the CN rom up and running.

I actually tried that but then it get's stuck on the Nubia logo, so something must have gone wrong somewhere, and one odd thing is if I try installing the latest V2.63 CN rom via local update it tells me that the package is not compatible with the phone. At least the Redmagic 5G had the local update option on its recovery. Nothing at all on the Redmagic 6 Pro. Isn't recovery.img included in the payload.bin? doesn't seem to be there when I dumped the payload

Hi there, can you describe the whole steps to flash your RM6 pro from CN to global?
Which rom did you use? EU or non-EU?
Thanks for the reply.

I installed both just to see if I cam go back to CN rom once I'm on either Rom
Basically just downloaded the Global ROM file from the Nubia website, put it on my phones root folder, then did a local update, using the system update local update setting

I believe the recovery is part of the boot image now. I've dumped the payload too and I'll have a quick look and see if it's present. I have all the files for the US, global version. It's 4.1.2 I believe. I'll be happy to help any way I can. I just had a bad experience today... I've had my 6 Pro a week and already the cord has quit working. Not a good sign. I'm starting to regret my purchase.

I checked and sure enough no recovery image. Pretty sure it's baked into the boot image. Perhaps try the 4.1.2 boot image? That may boot it. Seems like you've rebranded it global version by flashing the global rom. That's a possibility anyways

Shouldn't cause a brick. If you've already flashed global before there shouldn't be any problem. But to be sure instead of flashing just fastboot boot the image.
Fastboot boot boot.img
This will allow you the luxury of trying it without actually flashing it. If it hangs up simply reboot by holding power.

Question Flashing the stock rom and locking the bootloader

I unlocked the bootloader of my POCO F3 and installed both LineageOS 18.1 and Lineage's recovery, but now I need to send the phone back to Xiaomi and I can't return a device that has been tampered with. For this reason I need to flash the EEA ROM (the EU ROM) that came with the device, flash the original recovery (I'm not sure if this will be done automatically when I flash the EEA ROM) and lock the bootloader. I found this guide on how to flash the stock ROM but I haven't found how to lock the bootloader. Is there any way to do it?

Assuming you'll be using miflash to flash stock firmware, just leave 'clean all and lock' checked (bottom right corner of miflash). That'll lock the bootloader again. Failing that, use cmd - see link
