Trouble transferring files to PC - Nokia 6.1 (2018) Questions & Answers

Hey all!
So, i'm trying to get some videos from my phone to the PC to edit, but when i plug it in and enable file transfer on the phone side, i get this on the PC and no other drives pop up.

I don't know what the program is, but i tried running it and nothing happened. I tried compatibility modes, and it always closes itself right after running. Judging by the androidfiletransfer.dmg, i guess it's a similar program for PC. I got no clue what it is even after some fruitless escapades on DuckDuckGo and Google.
Anyone know what this program is so i can get these stupid files to my PC, or better yet, get the phone to act like every other android phone when plugged in?
I'd rather not have to upload the 20+ gigs worth of files to google drive.
Thanks!

Sorry, I don't have a solution, but I thought I'd at least let you know I have the same problem. This is the only android I've ever had that won't just share the internal storage via MTP quickly and easily with my Linux laptop. When plugged in it either does nothing or shares that folder you screenshotted when you poke enough settings. I've never got MTP to work right. Even adb is a hold your mouth just right kind of exercise with my TA-1045.
My workaround is to either adb pull (unreliable, see above) or upload anything I want to share to an SMB share on a desktop I use as a file server, then download it from that share to the laptop. Not all that different than what you're suggesting except I don't get a cloud service involved, so my speeds are probably way better.
For an android one device, this phone's software really, really sucks.

I have my Nokia for about a year and I never plugged it to my computer via USB
I use "FTP Server" app on my Android devices, and on PC I have "Total Commander", I transfer everything via Wi-Fi.

.lnk files instead of folders

Good morning,
For a while now i have no access to my files on internal and external SD_Card from my Computer. I only see those .lnk files with my folder names. I found out that these are some kind of linkage.
I hoped that this problem would be solved with the next software update but it wasn't.
Now I am thinking of flashing Kezra's Custom Rom but I am afraid that i could end up with a bricked phone because of this Problem.
Could someone please help me?
Nobody any ideas?
How are you connecting phone to computer...PC? or Mac?
.lnk files are Windows shortcut files, so do not know if you what you are referring to here, or where you see these .lnk files.
You got USB drivers installed on PC/Mac?
You connecting USB Mass Storage, when USB cord plugged into PC, pull down Notification like below.....

}
See USB Connected
Tap Connect USB Storage
You should get Warning on Phone about some apps not working when SD Mass Storage dismounted, so tap OK.
When you do that, if you have proper drivers installed on PC....I talk Windows, not MAC, You should get notification icon in Task Bar Area showing Samsung_Android connected, see below:
Left Icon with Green Check mark
Also, if you have autoplay enabled, you should see both Internal and external SD's, like below:
Showing Drives G: and H: as windows views my Internal and External SD's
So, just click on open folder to view files for either USb Drive, or use Windows explorer to view files, I will show you one more pic, of both SD's on my phone, as seen in Windows Explorer:
Windows Explorer View of Phone SD Drives
Hey klingel_One
If the above has helped, I went to some trouble to make it for you......
let us know, and maybe press "Thanks"
It ain't so hard

Can't preview any photos when plugged into computer

So when I plug my S3 with a USB cord and try to view my photos, I can't preview any of them, I have to manually click each one to see the picture. Is there a way so I can see all of them at once so I can choose which ones I want? I've tried MPT and PTP mode and neither shows me the preview. This is all I get. I've tried updating Kies & that just made it worse & not read my entire phone at all so I removed Kies. Also I can't even get the phone to show up on my Mac, when I plug it into my MBP nothing just pops up. So for now I"m using Airdroid to view all my photos so I'm able to choose which ones I want to drag to my comp but it would be nice to be able to do it from windows explorer since that's much faster. I'm on stock rooted rom 4.04 with all the bloatware removed using titanium backup

I don't know much about Mac's but I know with Windows 7 the only way to see thumbnails is to use Kies or remove your SDCard and mount it directly (assuming you are saving images to your card). Even though the MTP protocol supports thumbnails, Microsoft's implementation of it in Win7 doesn't (and based on your post, I'm guessing Mac doesn't either).
Let's hope that Windows 8 (and the next Mac OS) do a better job with MTP.

I hope this bumps the thread :\
I gave up trying to use my mbp. As for windows best bet is just moving them all to your HDD.

Can't get my phone to come up in Windows....

Okay, I actually have an older HTC Evo and there is no support on that forum anymore....
So forced to post here, hoping someone can help.
Anyways, I am just trying to re-flash the ROM, and want to put an old SENSE HTC install back on it, but cannot get my Windows 7 computer to recognize the phone. Fails to load the device driver.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Install HTC Sync to your computer. It will download and install the latest drivers to your PC. Also make sure your SDK is up to date. Lastly, make sure you have USB debugging enabled on your phone. If you continue to have problems, you may have an issue with your USB port on your computer or you may need to try a different USB cable.

I installed SYNC manager on my computer as well as the Android SDK pack and installed the Google USB Driver there too.
It's like it sees the phone as a drive, but it's like it doesn't think there is an SD card there (see below). I wonder if somehow the SD card is not "mounted"? I don't know. Any help appreciated. I can see the SD card just fine from the Restore menus on the phone.

but it should appear these folders
what should i do? I've installed and uninstalled the driver several times...
and when i transfer Music folder, it say 'this kind of files could not be able to operate in your device. copy them anyway?'(sorry for my bad english. it was written in korean)
I transfer those files anyway and those file could be able to play in my device. what is the problem?
these error are driving me crazy...
Don't worry about the compatibility error. As long as you have an app that will play the file you will be fine.

Take a look at my post here, it might help. Might try a different usb cable also.
Yeah the cable might be the problem

You have no problem with your cable or drivers. This is a bug known about for a long time - I don't know if it has been addressed in the latest beta release. See: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=38282

Use Nexus as a monitor (kind of)

I know you can use the N7 as a second monitor or even a PC itself. I wanted to ask a question slightly more out there.
Is / would it be possible to output system (PC) stats to display on the N7? I have a Logitec G15 v1 keyboard that has the LCD screen on it that runs little apps on it. My N7 can sit right up over the top of it and act as a bigger and better screen. I would like to know if it was doable to run an apk to display those programs, or something like it pulling info from the PC along with maybe some other useful PC info. Kind of like running RainMeter but instead of on the PC have it display everything on the android via Blutooth, USB, or WiFi?
The things you mentioned are definitely doable, hell, the sky is the limit. It's another matter of who will make these apps.
Figured I would update this because I found what I was looking for and if there is anyone else wanting something like it, here you go:
This app has everything I wanted and more. Its perfect. And its FREE!

Just for the sake of archives: you can use the Nexus 7 as a secondary monitor of a Linux by using VNC. http://askubuntu.com/questions/28608/how-do-you-use-an-android-tablet-as-a-second-display

You can do something like that in Windows too and there is plenty of info on that already, but what I was looking for was live system stats. Not an actual secondary monitor. I wanted to be able to keep an eye on CPU/GPU temps and fan speed along with other stats.
