Team Win Recovery Project
Custom builds By JDCTeam
Long story / Short story:
Some of you may know me from my custom ROMS. Some of you may hate me but a few of you love me because I give you free and stable custom ROMS with bleeding edge updates for our 5 year old beloved S4. Although, not many of you realize what steps are required from Google's AOSP until XDA's thread with my ROM.
I personally test the roms I build. That means that I flash about 10-15 zip files per version I release...There are many times where my device is sitting in recovery waiting for the next build to test. While doing that I saw that battery drain is huge.. temperatures too... the time needed to flash and wipe felt like a year... So with that I decided to build a custom TWRP which aims to
Lower battery consumption
Avoid burning out retinas with thaaat brightness
Stop being annoying with haptic feedback, vibration, "install twrp app", "allow modifications"....
That TWRP blue... pff....
So here we are. I would like to share that build with all of you.
Differences compared to original / official builds:
lowest brightness by default
Built with Buffcore kernel from our Pie ROMs
Stop vibration
Total black / Red Theme
Use -O3 flag for TWRP executables
Source built kernel with Linaro Toolchain optimized for jf
Never ask for TWRP update app
Stop asking to "Allow modifications"
Revamped lockscreen. Unlock with button - not slider
Total black background
Optimized Ramdisk including performance governor , increasing the speed of flash and wipes
Guide and questionsHow to install:
From your recovery -> Install -> install image -> select the .img -> Press home -> Reboot -> Recovery
Can I flash it through odin ?
yes
"Build#1" ? Will there be more builds?
Yes.
"I loved it but i dont like the red. Can I change it ?"
Yes you can. Send me a PM and I will send you some .pngs. Color them as you like and I will build a specific builds for you. Generally I can make ANY modification you personally want.
Your name? Your nickname on UI? Other colors?
Just ask it!

Do you need a custom theme but you cant build it ?
Do that ->
Go to TWRP sources
Press the green button on the right side Download/Download zip
Extract the zip
Theme the images (*.png) that are located at : gui/theme/common and gui/theme/portrait_hdpi ( Thats what S4 uses. Be careful!!!)
The .xml files are kinda advanced to be understood if you dont have much experience on how XML works, so i can do that for you (just tell me the colors)
When you are done, send me those source (or your gui folder)
I build it and release it on this thread
PS.
I would make themes for you but editing images on Linux is not that easy and will cost me many hours.
PS.
i need HEX colors codes...Do not tell me "please build green...build pink..."

Very nice job. Looks and feels much better than the stock twrp. THX

NICE!

Thanks @side, Thanks @jdcTeam, Amazing job

Thank you so much for saving my m919. I could never get a TWRP above 3.1.1.0 to install. You saved my ass. thanks

Build 2 released.
md5: 6bb81b7c6a352a42b87e5708ff8f2fde
Rebased kernel
Fixed touch issues for some people
better performance/battery balance
fixed encryption and such

Excellent! ?

Will backups and restores be faster with it, too?

I've made a .tar file with the latest TWRP-JDCTeam-3.3.1.0-build2 to flash it directly from Odin, if someone needs it.

muy bueno, ya me había aburrido el twrp oficial.

My device doesn't show any screen issues anymore with your TWRP build 2.
Screen issues are gone also on OptimizedLineage-16.0 v11 and official Lineage-16.0.

What is “jflte” ?

In the phrase “Jflte DevConnection Team”,
and in the phrase “JDC TWRP Recovery v3.3.1-0 for JFLTE”,
and in the phrase “Only for S4 jflte” , in the 2nd of the 4 “Attached Thumbnails” in this thread’s original post
—
Is “jflte” a wildcard which represents all (22, by my count) S4 product code-names which begin with “jflte” ? Or does “jflte” represent just the (3, by my count) particular S4 product variants which are associated with the “jflte” (literal string, not wildcard) code-name ?
My S4 variant is jflterefreshspr - SPH-L720T . Is {JDC TWRP Recovery v3.3.1-0 for JFLTE} compatible with my S4 variant ?

I just installed it and the truth is very nice to look at, thanks side =)

if it is compatible because my s4 is the SPH-L720

Hopefully someone is still looking at this thread.
I already have a previous version of TWRP on this phone. How do I update to the newer version, and if I do, will I have to completely reinstall the OS? I ask because my current OS is now stuck on a bootloop, but I can still get into the current recovery.
Edit: I solved the bootloop thanks to a different thread, but I still would like to do the update.

Just flash img file in twrp (choose flash to recovery) - that's it. No reinstall of rom is needed.

I don’t have install image, only apply update. What am I doing wrong? Sorry I’m a bit of a noob. Thanks!

Been missing TWRP recovery?
Personally speaking, TWRP is my favourite recovery, and I successfully repacked boot.img with TWRP ver. 2.7.1.0.
Credits to @osm0sis for providing Android Image Kitchen and @humberos for building Omnirom here.
Installation: (nandroid backup first, just in case)

- power off handphone
- press vol up while connecting handphone with pc
- open command prompt, and type "fastboot.exe flash boot bootBeanStalk4010-TWRP.img"

Note: this rom has a gapps package in the flasher witch means the flasher intalls to os first with no gapps, then it access a folder named "gapps" to flash the package next so you dont have to, its a minimal package and we did it like that so it dowsnt infinge googles terms with Cyanogenmod.

It's running great so far
If someone wants benchmark results, here they are. they may vary for people and benchmarks don't represent everyday performance!
I would also like to ask the dev if he could make the SELinux status permissive please
Why do you say this rom runs at 50 fps and not at 60?

Gamerrom promises fast a stable gaming gr5 was the only rom to beat other os's from speed and less lags, im a gamer so i built it by a gamer for gamers, and 50fps only applies when running a app or games, however all s4s run differently

Awesome Rom
I must have to say that this Rom is really very good and smooth. I have not found any bugs yet on this Rom. Battery stability is great. Keep it up ! I think its almost look like stock but something better than stock in the sense of Battery, smoothness and overall performance. Hope our greatest developer will keep the update in future. The best small Rom but awesome!. I flashed it on my s7 edge white.

I really glad for you and your S7 Edge!
But this thread and room is for S7 Flat and there is no wow replies about this rom on S7 Flat. I really need fast and slim close to stock rom and will wait for fixing it.
This version don't installs properly via provided instruction.
I flashed all of the customs roms here to test, even the Echoe Rom, witch is not on the XDA Forum, so I have some experience and always do the Full wipe with formating internal storage and Factory Reset.
I agree, the TS made a great work, but he need to fix this rom to make it Works.
Also, all the reactors here, in topic, have the same problem agree installing and on the first boot...
Hi, what's the new UX, can I have screenshots please ?
Followed the instructions but stuck at "Samsung Galaxy S7" logo with endless vibrations. My phone is 930F.

Count me in.. Stuck on the Bootscreen with Vibration.
It's funny that I always have some errors using his Roms. Guess he should take some time testing this stuff instead of posting one Rom after the other.
My guess: he mixed the Kernels, maybe it Boots flashing a 930F Kernel after the installation. I'm not going to test this again untill he releases a new Version.

Same opinion.
Also agree, that rom need testing before public release.
I've read good feedback about this rom for Edge on 4pda.ru, but for s7 Flat now it is useless.
I am waiting for a new, tested version of this rom. I am really interested in it!!!

Same for me. Tested Stock Kernel after flashing with full wipe. Then same and Jesse Kernel, then with Super Kernel. Still got the same bug with no booting and vibrations on Samsung S7 Logo.
Any updates/notes from Topic Starter? I really want Semi Stock UX Super Lite Rom like this. But Working one...
Interesting: everyone with S7 getting bug on this rom, but the topic have 5 stars rating. Amazing...
I'm guessing someone should delete this ROM until it is fixed or at least make sure everyone knows that it will soft brick your phone!
. That is wrong. The kernel Have problems. I am.waiting for the kernel developer to fix it

As we're getting back into the thread game, keeping up with threads and updating them as per changelogs can be too hectic given our schedule. However, very detailed changelogs always go up on our Google+ page, follow us for constant updates!
For Device specific changelogs, check the second post.
Instructions & requirements
We highly recommend you to follow these instructions very carefully. Users usually tend to skip a few steps and eventually fall in trouble. Are you with me? Good. Let's get this train going.
Just a few things to keep in mind first -
If you're coming from another ROM / Stock, your system data (not internal storage) and cache will have to be wiped. This includes apps, accounts, messages, call logs etc.
There's been some users complaining about different GAPPS variants messing up installs and causing a ton of issues. Upon investigating it seems OpenGapps Mini/Nano work best.
Understand that Paranoid Android is a custom ROM and it might lead to addiction as it's relatively good. We shouldn't be accused of anything just incase your cat starts drinking wine. Things get a little woozy in the Paranoid World.
Some brain might be involved if things go wrong. Not a lot though, as much to solve what's 1+1.
Okay let's get to the main bit -
Once you have all the required files - boot into recovery and wipe the bananas out of your device. Get into the wipe menu and wipe data, system, cache and dalvik cache (basically everything except Internal Storage).
Once wiped, get into the "Install from zip" menu and select the ROM zip. (pa_gemini_6.x...). Once added to the install queue, TWRP will ask you if you want to add more zips into the queue - Click on "add more zips" and select the firmware package.
Swipe the bar on the bottom to flash/install zips. Once both zips are done installing - Reboot into system and set-up your device, after you've let it settle with screen off for about 10 Minutes, do not do anything else! Please let your device settle with screen off for about 10 Minutes after the first boot, otherwise the system wont boot after a reboot!
Once you're done setting up your device - well that's when you're done. One thing though - Make sure you DO NOT INSTALL any other zip in the same queue as the ROM! Meaning, do not flash anything like Gapps, a kernel or a root package while installing the ROM. We recommend you do that AFTER you're done setting up your device.

Exposed works very well.
Great camera. Take pictures while recording video
Fingerprint works better than any other rom.

I am gonna get soon as well , whenever come to india, looking to update from htc 10 and using your kernel as well
As long as there are HTC Flagship phones, I hope there will always be Clean Slate Kernel
Awaiting my U11+, still in backorder..:crying:
When i have it for sure i will try and come back to you..
Great, good to know there's interest. I'm not yet sure if I'll be able to purchase one for easier development and the excellent phone experience, but I'll try to manage this based on your feedback till then.
Already have a little fix to add based on u11 experience, and adding rootless kcal color control config possibility with cleanslate configuration application.
Today or tomorrow I'll patch it up and share here
Update 1.0.1
- add unrooted configuration for KCal with CleanSlate Kernel Configuration app

Firstly getting a recovery partition for the exact base you have, don't know if it's already listed somewhere. So you can get back to stock recovery for ota.
Then for flashing
Putting in an sdcard, careful to not mounting data, and backup to external sdcard and also flash from there.
@nkk71 I think that already possible and doesn't hurt phone system. Right?

Putting in an sdcard, careful to not mounting system, and backup to external sdcard and also flash from there.
@nkk71 I think that already possible and doesn't hurt phone system. Right?

If you mean the *no longer decryptable data partition in booted ROM*, then it still eludes me, but seems to get triggered any time twrp tries to decrypt it (doesn't matter whether successful or failed).
Though TWRP is able to decrypt it successfully (even when the ROM no longer *wants*), so the data is recoverable, but will cause a headache since data/media isn't backed up.
TWRP itself isn't triggering verity, I'm assuming when vold_decrypt is running for some reason, a *key upgrade* is triggered leading the ROM to no longer be able to (or rather allow) userdata to be decrypted.
I've never used FlashFire to be able to give any opinion about it.
If using TWRP, using external sdcard as you mentioned is a good idea, but in addition data decryption should not even be attempted, so I think the following would be safe:
1- Set a PIN on boot in the ROM
2- Reboot and confirm all is OK
3- Flash TWRP
4- When entering TWRP you will be prompted for a password, CANCEL THAT PROMPT
If you even attempt any decrypt the ROM will likely no longer decrypt data
5- Once you've cancelled the decrypt prompt, you can go ahead and safely backup and/or flash from external sdcard
PS: and as you mentioned, when prompted whether to allow system modifications choose NO. Keep system mounted read only.
Thanks @nkk71
uhm, must be my general messing up basic terms time to time, I meant to mention the data partition , but my idea was this what you described. Good that in the end system partition came up. Indeed it is essential to keep it intact for ota, or backup intact system image to external card
Good to see you here @tbalden. Would you spoiler what you have in the Pipeline for the beautiful U11+?

All cleanslate features from the u11 which is possible.
Check my signature for what's there on the u11.
I'll need more feedback yet on the first release, but hopefully the recent shipping happening in UK will boost the scene around here

Thanks for the lightning fast reply. I am from Germany and pre-ordered my U11+ directly from HTC, it arrived today.

Cool ?
I wish I'd meet the device in real life someday. I hate to develop blindly but I hope the similarities will help.
But it's too much for the budget at the moment, with two u11s this year.
Anyway it's good that @nkk71 helped describing a way to stay safe with kernel flashing. I hope it's gonna work out without sacrificing safe upgrade ota possibility.
Cheers

Wow you are supporting a device, that you don't own, that's very generous. Thank you very much and keep doing what you are doing.
