Notiflications with screen off - Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Questions & Answers

How do I make my phone to emit some light to make me aware that there is a new notification? Without third party apps would be great. Even with ambient display it doesn't work but I would prefer to keep ambient display option off. Now I get notification, the phone vibrates, gets bright for 5 secs and then stays 100% black. The hell..
I hope Xiaomi EU ROM has tweaks to whole notification system because right now it's a horrendous.

hi, as this phone has an amoled screen, it would be great that a notification icon is displayed, I do not know if there is the option always on display, you should seen side by side if there is something to do

ambient display and always on are pretty much the same in a sense that they should display critical information but it doesn't. I turn on ambient display and it will show just time and nothing extra even though there is a new notification

It would be great. Im not 100% comfortable with miui 10
Sometimes I miss the huawei os

Is it possible turn on ambient display without root?

so all of you live without notification and are ok? camera recording, no led makes me upset that I didn't buy Mi 9 also performance would be significant over SE

After migrating from Xperia Z3 Compact with colourful notification led it's quite strange, but I can live with that [emoji3]

you mean you can live without it. My assumptions were that instead of LED this phone would simulate it by emitting dot of light in the upper screen area. MIUI forum closed down. Chinese version or whatever it makes you to go you can't even create threads. No idea if I'm not aware of the fix or the phone is intended to always stay 100% black when screen is off.
I'm a dumbass for not getting Mi 9.

Hello. I followed a suggestion on this reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/ajdyrk/ambient_display_but_only_when_phone_has/
My ambient is normally off. When a notification arrives, it turns and stays On. If it's one of the "chosen" apps, it shows the relative icon, otherwise only the selected clock.
When I delete one notification, ambient goes back to off.
It is a bit tricky to accomplish, you have to use pc to give some permission to tasker with ADB, but it's a reliable solution, and it's not working that bad.
Ofc I still wait and hope for a native solution, not a tricky workaround

thanks I'll try this later today. Tasker is free for all but GPlay asks for 3 euros to download? Do you pick chosen apps in the Tasker or where because right now with ambient display it will display just clock and nothing else.

No wait. Little misunderstanding. With "chosen" apps I refer to those apps that actually put an icon in Ambient Display, like whatsapp, Gmail, messages and dunno which else. Ofc in tasker you have to select the apps of your choice that will turn AD on in case of notification.
And yes, it's a paid app. I bought it many years ago and has always been pretty useful to me with different phones

I have posted on MIUI forums about this issue. This phone is perfect to me, but not getting my notifications to stick on the screen, whether locked or unlocked btw, is a total deal breaker. Especially since it can just display a few bunch of pixels as an alert thanks to the AMOLED screen. I really don't understand how this issue could pass QA.

Motorola X had it, named Active Display (AlwaysOnDisplay.apk) and was perfect once, it also activate the screen when you pass over the proximity sensor over and show notifications....

Found some tutorial here...

i found that even with 3rd party apps if i make notifications appear the screen won't read fingerprint inputs unless you press the side button. that tasker app guy had great fix around but won't pay for that app lol

Do you need root to do this? I do not find the setting to activate AOD in secure settings.

No, you don't. Just follow this

I did and it works, but I have to turn on the screen when a notification arrives. If not, AOD will not be activated. How did you manage to do it?
EDIT: if I add to the task to turn the screen on, it works. But thats not really what I want.

Missed Notifications Reminder
I am now using Missed Notifications Reminder it suits me and it's working.

[Q] Adjust camera white balance (red hue)

Hello community,
my Z1C photos have a prominent red hue / tint, especially in cloudy weather. This has already been described in numerous reviews. I wonder if there is a way to adjust the camera white balance, either via a different camera app, hidden settings, etc.. Any tips would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Hunibu

I'm using cm13 and i noticed the same thing..
The saturation increased to amoled levels and i like it, its become a Force of habit to keep the display on as long as possible because of the colors..
After the screen lock the colors get washed out..
Been searching forums and no one seems to notice it...
Wish someone would take an interest in this topic
In cm13.0 I noticed there is an option that changes the colors bases on the hour and position(maybe) so if you have that ticked in its going to boot with normal colors and then filter blue or red light out depending on the hour.

Android Q double-tap-to-wake ambient display gone?

I upgraded to Android Q DP1 yesterday through OTA and noticed the double-tap-to-check-phone feature now always displays the full lockscreen including wallpaper. Same thing for lift-to-check-phone. In Pie, it used to show ambient display first when double tapped. I have the Always On Display disabled. Is this a bug?

Yes, the "Double-tap to check phone" and "Lift to check phone" options are still there, and when enabled those actions still wake the screen, but the wake behaviour has changed, which is what I'm wondering about. When woken, it now shows the full lock screen rather than the ambient display (black background and dark theme) that used to show up in Pie.

It's down to personal preference for sure. I wish they would've made that wake behaviour configurable if it's not a bug.
I wish the same too even in full 10 release they didn't change this behaviour
It's better to wake the ambient display than to wale the whole phone in case you need to check nots.
:good:
Hey all!
I am glad too see somebody else also noticed it. I absolutely adore the clean design and funcionality of Pixel's AOD, but the changed funcionality of double-tap to wake (from waking AOD to waking the whole screen) annoys me. I even rolled back from Q beta to Pie hoping they would not implement this change in stable release. Now in order to see AOD you need to have it on constantly, which actually drains some 1% battery per hour (that actually makes it some 15-20 over a working day's period and is actually quite substantial.), also during the night. I also don't stare at the phone all the time to need AOD all that time - a gentle tap to peek the time, weather and notifications is just enough - I see some of you would agree.
Is there any way we can appeal to Google similar to OnePlus's feedback section?
Hey, has it also become iOS like?
I hate whole iOS lock screen turning on. What a shame
I spent time factory resetting my phone thinking that the missing ambient display settings were a bug, I never thought Google would remove that functionality. The language under the "Lock Screen Settings" sounds similar, but they don't do the same thing since now it just wakes the entire screen. Real bummer that Google keeps removing features.
Yeah, it seem they went almost full iOS on this And it was so good: tap twice - AOD shows, tap twice again on that AOD - the lock screen shows. Why Google, why! At least give us an option to schedule when the AOD can be turned off automatically (like at some hours at night).
And to think I bought the Pixel just a week ago to finally taste the stock Android. It is good, no doubt here (and the phone size and general style is very refreshing from thos behemoths I used from Sammy, OP or Huawei), but OnePlus seems much more thoughtful and practicality-oriented. And what is the more important the pledges from the OnePlus community actually work quite often which I don't expect with Google somehow.
I'm fine with it. Not a big deal.

[APP] Arc Lighting - Notification Light for Galaxy Note 10

Arc Lighting adds a highly customizable ring of light around the camera cutout of your phone. You can use this light with various indicators such as audio visualization, notification lighting, critical or low battery warnings, as well as a charge indicator. The ring can also appear on your Always-On display. (to make aod work you need to make sure you have downloaded always on amoled and activated it, you also need to make sure samsung stock aod and samsung edge lighting is disabled under samsung display settings you also need to make sure that aod is enabled under arclighting with override set to off)
Features:
- Highly customizable lighting for the Galaxy S10, S10+, S10e, and Note 10. Select a variety of colors, animations, and styles.
- Always show ring with various gradient effects (add multiple colors and make them spin for a visual experience)
- An adjustable glow effect that can be turned on or off
- Notification lighting both when the display is on or off (update planned for only the lockscreen or only inapp)
- Music lighting that syncs the light to your music
- Battery indicator lighting for charging, low and critical battery states. (note it will not work until you configure the zones you want the colors to appear)
- Device overheating indicator for gamers and power users (note it will not work until you configure the zones you want the colors to appear)
- Arc Lighting can be configured to match the color of your wallpaper, the app you're currently in, or both!
This app requires certain permissions to function correctly.
Accessibility: This permission is used for the ring to appear over your lock screen, always-on display, and for accessing the color of the current app you're in. This permission is required for the app to function properly.
Draw Over Other Apps: This permission allows the ring to show on top of other apps. This permission is required for the app to function properly.
Microphone Access: This permission is used to analyze the internal device audio for the music lighting. You will not be asked for this permission unless you choose to enable the Audio Visualizer indicator for the ring.
Storage Access: This permission is used to get the color of your wallpaper. You will not be asked for this permission unless you choose to use the color of your wallpaper for the ring.
Notification access: This permission is used to change the color of the ring after notifications
Burn-in concerns: Some Android displays may suffer from mild burn-in if a single item is displayed on the screen for an extremely significant amount of time. If you are concerned about this, feel free to enable the rotation animation in ring settings. That will ensure the display is constantly changing. Alternately, you can disable the default effect to only show the ring while an indicator is being triggered. Note: Samsung Galaxy devices come with burn-in protection that moves the pixels a little each time.
Compatible Devices

- Galaxy S10
- Galaxy S10e
- Galaxy note 10 (not tested yet)
- Galaxy note 10+ (tested confirmed working)

Been using the app for a few hours now and really like it. Works very very well.
Phone is on silent at work so these notifications are helpful.
Using this with the AOD notify. The latter is helpful when the screen is off or face down.
Keep up the good work [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

thank you that means a lot, i still want to include more features but i owe the developer money and he won't do any more updates until i paid it off some things i want to implement
fix bugs like the landscape bug, glow and music turning off other indicators
add a connected or disconnected or both to the app and get rid of the charging indicator so you can choose what color you want, right now you can use a work around to see charge level for that by setting a custom zone for the battery indicator and then setting it to between 99 and 100 for it to turn green there but it will do it even when the phone is disconnected but it works to know when it's fully charged
inapp/homescreen/lockscreen/charging/discharging modes so you can choose a configuration for each like only notification lighting on the lockscreen and only the spinning visual effect on the homescreen
gradient and animations per app and toggle to enable or disable notifications for certain apps so for example when you are performing a call it can do a gradient animation specific for that.
i have plenty of ideas but no funding to do it so the app could be much much better.

Everything seems to be working well. Is there a setting that allows for incremental adjustments to the ring? It is just slightly off center with the actual hole. Do I PM you for the code or is feedback here good?
