Camera images not upto the mark. Help? - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

I'm on bootleggers ROM. Picture taken on the pixel 3xl aren't how they supposed to be.
I could see every reviewer giving great reviews on camera and their pics prove it too. But when I'm taking pics, if i slightly zoom the image, I'm finding noise in the image. PFA shot.
Any one felt the same with camera?

Forgive the obvious, but you didn't mention how the camera was on the stock rom before flashing BL. Surely you tested the camera before the custom rom? If not, backup and flash back to the stock rom. Camera has been pretty much perfect in all respects. If you have legitimate issues on stock then I'd be on the line with support. You may also want to solicit feedback from the dedicated BL rom thread. Best of luck.

Thank you for response mate..
When i tried on stock also, i didn't felt great with camera results as they too even have noise in images.
Coming to BL thread, none mentioned such issue with camera.

For example if i slightly zoom in that OP picture the results are with noise..
Do the noise in portrait pictures with zoom in is expected & obvious?
Also attaching a random click taken in mid afternoon with pretty good light but the image end up with average quality

Not sure what you are expecting from a low-res, camera-compressed photo? Try using a full resolution photo and don't zoom with the camera. Make any necessary edits on the laptop/PC. You're complaining about a phone camera that has been judged close to perfect by every account, yet you post a 4:3 low-res/ software-zoomed pic? What are you really trying trying to say in a thread all by yourself? Camera is phenomenal. Tried Night Sight in regular light? Shot any raw .dng? Try these suggestions and come back.

Some people say that certain kernels will change the MP out put of your camera from 8mp to 3mp...is that true? If so how do you tell what your camera is outputting in picture quality?

Almost all of the newer, actively developed kernels have completely eliminated this. You can tell because the images will be about half the size/quality of normal pics. You can see whether or not the mp is available in the camera options, also.

Anyone knows how to get the Stock G4 Camera app?

Hello!
Yesterday I flashed CyanogenMod on my G4 H815 and just before the phone rebooted, I realized that I won't have the mega-awesome Camera app from LG. So does anyone know if there is any apk or any way to get it? To mention, I didn't backup my device because... because.
Thank you!
Probably won't work even if you get the apk, since most OEM specific apps need OEM specific framework to run. I think the only way to have it working on CM would be to port it. But why would you want that anyway? The image quality won't really change. It's not that much dependant on the app but rather the drivers running the camera.

It's not necessary the image quality, but the flexibility you have with that app (manual focus, iso, exposure time, etc.). I hope there is a way to use that app. While I was searching for it I found that there is the G4 Camera app ported for G3, so I am thinking that there could be the original app somewhere..
Thanks!
It's not possible right now. There have been efforts to port it, but nothing has come out of it yet. There are however other apps that are pretty good. And the CM stock camera app only misses the HDR and Manual settings. The quality otherwise is similar

there are 3rd party apps that should work for manual setting but your max shutter won't exceed 0.7s. This is the already the case with the stock firmware and 3rd party camera apps.
There is something called night shot which the G4 resorts to very often especially with the front camera. that will be gone. Selfies ain't going to be as good. it's also used for the rear in lower light. Though a longer exposure will produce better images. night shot is a convenience when you don't want to set up on a tripod.

How can you tell ?
it requires a side by side in full resolution with 2 G4's one with stock & CM under varying lighting. Lots of comparisons like that.
How good is the Cm camera in auto ? that's one of the strengths of the stock G4 camera.
Does the Cm camera make use of the colour sensor at all.
Except for the 30s exposure there is nothing special about that app, just use Proshot and you will be far better, cancel noise reduction make dngs and you have better shots

I can tell because I have seen photos from both cameras (on the computer). And if you really need 2 separate G4s under the same conditions side by side to tell the difference then there is not much difference. It's the audio bitrate debate all over again.
I am not saying it's as good as with stock but similar in most situations. I miss the HDR feature because it helps in low light situations.

Can you post links to examples of photos taken with cm camera ?
saw a few in the g4 community but the max resolution was just 2.4MP, need to be full resolution.
The low light shots on auto were crap. The G4 is a low light shooter in stock auto.

Such are the requirements for a clinching argument. otherwise its based on faith.
if people want to go down this route they need to know what they will be losing.

heh, anything from 0.5s UP TO 30s isn't possible.
I would be very sceptical about replacing stock with cm camera until i see plenty of examples with cm.
Also bear in mind that vendors keep a very tight lock on their cameras and don't share much with 3rd parties. yeah you can use a 3rd party app in some circumstances but you can never replace the stock camera in all situations. This stock cmaera that can challenge the likes of smasung and is touted as a major selling point of the G4. Yeah, i say its pretty special.
Which is a requirement to any one considering the CM path.
What i'm reading here is if you want CM then you don't care too much about the camera to begin with. That would not surprise me as people that are good with roms don't tend to be very good with camera and vice versa. it's rare to find both those skill sets in people.

Low light

At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus)'s camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The phone is simply awesome except the camera if we get camera 2 api enabled it will be unbeatable....
Hope we get it in oreo upgrade..

There is no hope or chance from Lenovo to get any official Oreo ROM. This is confirmed by Lenovo via their update matrix page.
In a sense that is a good thing, since the biggest con / down side of this phone is the ZUI ROM. I have used many low-end hardware before with poor ROM buy nothing compares to ZUI.
Hope more and more developers buy this handset. Out standing hardware at 1/3rd of price of nearest competition. And they do give us some good Oreo based ROMs
The camera is not that great. I have used mi4 before and this camera make me feel disappointed. But it's not a rubbish camera. Its takes an effort to get good pictures. Camera 2 api + gmod5 camera is giving some great results on aex 5 rom. But it probably is because of the algorithms than the camera
Everyone, please rate bad if you know a bit of photography. Try using a manual camera app and set ISO and shutter speed manually and then report. No stock OEM focuses on camera. Try manual and then report
Please suggest few camera app you feel I should try with my Z2 plus

Hardware wise camera is fine. But on software side , Stock zui camera app is very poor. A lot of noise and very less detail even in broad daylight photos. Dont expect anything from its low light shots. But with google camera app, it can capture very high quality photos with high level of detail even in low light shots.
So if you shoot a lot of photos and know how to unlock bootloader and do android stuff, you can go for it very well. Else this phone is not for you!

Oneplus 6 Camera port to Oneplus 5T??

Hi all,
Wanted to know if there is any chance of the oneplus 6 camera app being ported to oneplus 5t AND if it will produce any better photos than what we are currently getting on the oneplus 5t.
A part of me hopes that oneplus is just waiting for enough oneplus 6 units to be sold before sending out an update for oneplus 5t that will give us the same processing software and power as the oneplus 6.
Thoughts and opinions on the above are welcome from all, especially the developers who have made this website the awesome place it is today for all mods and apps.
rgds,
Gcam on the 5t takes way better photos than the 6 ?*?

Does it actually though? I've compared pictures and I'm seeing gcam has a bit better overall color from the HDR processing but there is quite a bit of graininess in mid-low lighting settings. OOS cam definitely still does have oil painting effect but it's a lot less pronounced in the latest builds than it was on release, and photos in mid-low lighting are not near as grainy as gcam photos.
Care to change my mind and share your gcam setup/5t fixes you used?

Use the latest apk 7.9.5 and the fixes. Do some research in the unified thread. When hdr enchnaced is on. Longer shutter time. The photos are incredible. Hdr on doesnt do much atm (it used to but thungs are getting fixed atm)
Just dont touch to focus in hdr enhnaced. ( you need root tho. )
please remove
Not rooted yet so haven't tried out GCam. Since i have an extended warranty and damage protection, etc... I have not rooted and frankly ..this is the first android phone where i don't feel the need to root as such. I am more inclined towards an unrooted port of the oneplus 6 camera or maybe an official update... hope it happens sooner or later.

A question. I have the version 7.8 of the Arnova Pixel 2 with the libraries in Magisk V1 because with the V2 and the last Gcam I lost the facial unlocking. Is this already fixed? If it is fixed which version should I install and what mod of Magisk with the libraries without losing the facial unlocking?

of course it is there is no much of improvements in the op6 over op5t
the slightly big improvement is in low light only but still the op6's camera is far from google pixel ,apple and samsung
we get pixel quality photos with this mod so we have a top tier camera flagship degree
We probably take better pictures than the pixel xl 2 because we have a wider f1.7 lens lol

No PRO mode in 108 MP??

I just saw this in a review, is this true?
I am personally shocked this is not supported.. That is one of the reasons I want the Ultra, so that is the shot I'm taking is in ideal conditions I can get a full 108 MP photo with amazing results.. Does anyone know if there going to allow in the future?
It's true just discovered this myself
There really is no 108mp. It is 12mp that should be better than other 12mp. I know this is not glitzy as 108mp but is real.
There is no 100x zoom either. There very good 4x zoom
If anything troubles me it is that pro mode does not support the wide camera nor the 4x camera. There is no way to take raw photos with either of those. I find the HEIC abysmal. I need to see if JPEG is any better.
The raw from the main camera looks pretty good though. Perhaps better than other phones. You get verygood 12mp DNG file. That is impressive and great. You can also get RAW from the front camera.
The 4x zoom if not opened at 100% even in heic looks good. Heic though produces some awful smudging of details and halo effects
Kind of defeats the purpose.
AND not having development due to a locked bootloader.
May have to (keep) the favor to iOS side.
Seriously.

No Pro Mode Except for Standard Wide Angle
Pro Mode (raw format) is a must for me in both Ultrawide and Telephoto. Since this is a simple software fix, anyone hear if and when it will happen? Makes no sense that some beancounter in the system didn't allow full Pro Mode from the start!
Hey guys! Could you download this app called Camera2 Test from the play store? It reads all the features that all the cameras have implemented with the Camera 2 API. I'm curious if a 108mp RAW mode is there. You can go to the full tab in the app and share the file in here. Thanks in advance! (perferably from az exynos device, but both would be preferred!)

I uploaded one raw and couple of post processing options. One is without corrections and the other (warmer one) is to my liking. I used Lightroom.

I am yet to do a bit more photography with the S20 ultra. Here is an album of photos I took from a walk before the quarantine in my country. I will put more photos in there as I get more experience with the phone when I go out after the quarantine.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/kirilk/albums/72157713487224503
It is very fitting to my expectations. I wanted a phone camera that has wide angle and optical magnification higher than 75mm equivalent, Between 100 mm to 135 mm equivalent was my dream. SO S20 ultra is exactly that 12mm wide angle (excellent, 105mm equivalent telephoto is excellent too. There is also the larger main 12MP sensor I like. Yes it can do 108MP with tons of mathematics and that would likely get you a bit more detail at the cost of dynamic range and noise.....
PS I would very much appreciate if Samsung give us RAW files form the telephoto and wide angle. I know wide angle has distortion and likely the telephoto suffers vignetting and or distortion too but Lightroom can fix those things. Samsung should add another camera app meant for photo enthusiasts.. RAW files with high bit depth and latitude for editing in post should be the emphasis there.

All photos in the above post use the same software . I got one update immediately as I installed the phone.
G988BXXU1ATBM (there are two more version strings I guess for other hardware modifications) ,431,19MB in size containing the 1st of March security updates

Thank you for your efforts! I watched a video from India today. They got the ATC1/H update first. It looks very promising, take a look:

The old news about the ATC2 update from Korea are somewhat misleading since the update with the lower number brings improvements that where not to be seen in the ATC2 video from Korean user which we all have probably seen.
I just got an update to .......ATCH and can confirm AF works now pretty well including close up.
RAW from telephoto or wide angle is not available . Camera2 API does not see the telephoto camera.
So I guess AF is likely the only fix.
