Call recording on Android (9/10) PIE/Q roms [ROOT] - Xiaomi Mi 6 Themes, Apps, and Mods

After struggling with this issue on numerous ROMs (since migration from LOS 15.1) I found a good way to use call recording for free, with recording from the voice line and saving the file with the contact/name number.
So first things first LOS (16) support native call recording, but has little customization, you can't make it automatically record, or modify the file name or format (other than the 2 provided). If that is enough for you then by all means I can wholeheartedly recommend this ROM.
For those who want a bit more, and have a rooted phone/rom, use call recorder from f-droid, either use the f-droid app store or directly install the APK file.
Now for the app to be able to record the voice line itself and not just the mic, the app needs to be systemized.
Use magisk (or any other known way to systemize apps) module called App Systemizer (Terminal Emulator).
You will also need a Terminal Emulator (grab one from the play store, or activate the default one from the 'Developer Options' menu after activating developer options).
In the terminal emulator type:
Code:
su -
systemize
When systemizing use the list and select Call Recorder app number from the list. select the priv-app folder and reboot.
After the phone has booted make sure to go to in-app settings and choose 'Voice Line' for 'Recording Source'. In the settings you can also modify file name and format. Also make sure to mark with V the 'Call Recording' option.
That's it, this method works for me on NeoArian build of LineageOS 16. If people try it on different ROMs please report here your findings
Update:
Just installed LineageOS 17.1 Official, glad to report this method and app works perfect with this release.
Apply the same steps, choose voice line, I also use the .ogg encoding which allows the use of filter, and I activate the 'Voice Filter' for better sound quality.
Cheers, if it works for you on other ROMs, please add them in this thread, Thanks.

Works like a charm!!
Thank you.
I'm a big fan of FOSS and this solution is both elegant and simple
I can confirm this work on HavocOS ver 2.2,2.4,2.6 (Pie)
Works find for BT as well.

working in Pixel official experience-caf pie
Device:Mi 6 (Sagit)

It worked perfectly with Android Pie 9.0 Pixel Experience - Redmi note 3 Kenzo.
Thank you.

Android Q block completely call recording. You must wait for Custom Rom.

Actually .. it worked .. on the recent build of los 17 and if you choose voice line as the source..
Yet it doesn't record from a Bluetooth headset

Call Recording in AospExtended ROM v6.6

It works !!

Hi @rtk217
Im on CarbonROM.
If we systemize this F-Droid app and use the voice line, would you be able to record via apps through VOIP such as Viber / Whatsapp? If not, is there some possibility to do this? I really need to use it to record VOIP calls.
Also, does using the voice line work with a bluetooth headset? if not, how to make this work please? (currently, with this app being normal installation, i cannot hear the other person over BT headset or BT car radio - i can only hear my voice. Using Voice Line)
If these 2 things can work this will be amazing.

first question: I really don't know, I don't think this app is capable to record voip calls.
second question: Yes, it should record phonecalls made with a bluettooth headset as long as it is recording voice line.
Best way to verify is just to try this, if you're unhappy just unsystemize it and delete the app.

Here is working perfectly on Samsung Galaxy S6 with LineageOS 16.

Not working on mi a1
All process completed but no voice from dual side?

Works well on Samsung Galaxy S10+ with Lineage 17.1.
Thank you @rtk217!

No, I don't have any of those problems. Did you follow all the instructions in the first post and installed it as system priv app?
I installed directly the apk (latest version). I didn't install the F Droid.

Yes, installed as per the op. Was working well to record calls.
Played around with the notification settings in system and managed to get rid of the first two notification issues.
And at some point the Recent Call Dialog just started to appear (not sure why and how).

Nice App! This is the "Axet Call Recorder" also available on F-Droid or Magisk Module. Works great on Android 10 and SGNote10+.
Unfortunately only records call from/to phone/dialer apps, no VOIP (Signal, Watsapp..).
Any ideas ? Don't want to use other (heavy) call recording apps...
A voice recorder would also be OK, but most voice recording (mic) apps are disabled during (any/VOIP) calls.. How can it be enabled in Android 10?

Moto E : Call Recorder

I'm on Rooted Firmware.
I have a habit to set a call recorder to store memories of my families and friends and disputes with customer care persons
I've tested and Call Recorder from @dr.ketan :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2634999
works well on Moto E.
It is able to record voice from both sides, very clearly.
However, same software for non-rooted devices has a version, but trial works for 2-3 minutes only. If trial version works non-rooted users may buy it from PlayStore.
Call recorder for rooted devices is free and records unlimited calls for unlimited length.
It used to work well on my Note2 and it is recording even better on my Moto E.
Thanks to @dr.ketan.
Will try
---------- Post added at 07:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:54 PM ----------
No menu just a indication in statusbar only
That's correct.
Even that will not show always. Just ensure that you have activated it after boot by touching once.
It will save recordings in 'Sounds' folder on Internal Storage. If the folder is not there, create it. Otherwise, it will not work.
It will ask for SU permission only after first call(after installing and activating it). You provide access and it's done.
It will come up whenever call comes or goes.
No GUI, but everything works.
File size is also small, time stamp is in file name with contact/phone number.
Thanks will try

I use Automatic Call Recorder from Play Store. It works flawless.

doesnt work for me. at least the root requiered non payment version.
didn't try the demo version because there is no reason to look into something that costs money when you can have it for free and better with other apps.
and i don't appreciate this kind of marketing.
using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appstar.callrecorder&hl=en

If it recored call, got SU permission and had sound folder on SDcard, then check audio carefully. Because, the app starts recording as soon as you start dialing. First few seconds may be blank.
BTW, are you rooted and did you use the rooted version ?

Hi,
I'm on Moto E(Condor), CM 12.1. There are two files in Sounds folder .amr and %CNAME_%CDATE_%CTIME.amr. while calling, I'm getting notification in the status bar, but no recording. I've given root permission after ending of the first call.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Because I use a very minimal setup. Allows for a quick and easy install, clean flash. Every time, every rom. I don't need the mega garbage. I've tested countless roms and give my best to do honest and helpful feedback. Mega is awful. No reason why it shouldn't download thru the desktop, but refuses thru multiple browsers so you will install the app. I don't need their garbage on my phone. I was looking forward to running this the next few days, but I will not install the mega app. It is junk. Go ahead if you want. I'm not the only one who hates mega. Could anybody please test if Calls Recall app (= free) works with Nexus 5x?

Hi,
One of my favorite free apps on my galaxy S4 is "Calls Recall" which allows for automatic recording of all calls in and out without any beeps or fees. I mainly use it to not forget details when calling a store so i don't have to write stuff down.
Now I consider buying the Nexus 5x but would first want to know if that app works on it, so would anybody be so kind to just try it out. It's a simple free install.
To find the app just google "calls recall app" (as new user i can't post external links apparently). Just the regular free version, not the Pro version which you may also find. Just do a phone call with somebody (or let somebody call you) and see if it records fine and how good the quality is of you and the other person. The only special setting (wrench top right) is "record from LINE" on or off. Let me know if this works with LINE on which normally gives better quality on both sides.
Thanks alot to anybody who could test this for me. Maybe the app is also useful to you.
PS. aside from this app, any other (free) call recorder apps you know which record all calls in and out automatically without any annoying beeps or having to pay fees or anything. Thanks again.
Nobody can help with this?
Most people don't use it due to the legal issues that change from place to place. An example is that call recording is legal where my brother lives but not where I do so if he records my call without my permission (before anything is said) then I could have him arrested.

Hello. The app doesn't work. In fact, no recording app works with nexus 5x or 6p, as it does on samsung or lg generic phones. There are some apps which promises you that they work on nexus phones, but the recording is very bad and inconsistent, meaning that sometimes it works (bad), sometimes not at all.

You can find it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eupheme.callrecorder Please let me know how it goes and make sure to try with "record from LINE" on or off in the settings. That's the only setting you might need to change.

The app works on the s4 because they use the same kernel as they do in the EU devices that has call recording built in. Call recording needs to be added to the kernel.

I actually live in Europe (Belgium). Are you saying that EU models of the Nexus 5x should work with the recording app and US models don't?

No Im saying that Samsung has long had call recording built into their version of android. These devices are only released in EU as in the states call recording is on the verge of illegal depending on where you are. As google is a US based company call recording is never built into their kernels. So what Im saying is that if you want it to work on the nexus you will have to make a custom kernel with it enabled.
On the homepage of this apps they say: "Calls Recall supports Android 2.3.4+. It will run if your phone meets this requirement."
So if you have a recent android version it should work apparently.
Nobody here who has a Nexus 5x and could give it a go? It will only take a couple of minutes.

You cant believe those in the least. The first give away is the android version. There was no official 2.3.4 version issued on devices. The only devices that ran that were Asian knock off devices.
You can search for the info and see that it needs to be built into the kernel.
Most here dont mess with call recording due to legal issues.
When using speakerphone during a call, should that allow you to record both sides or not? Just wondering. BTW, where i live recording calls is legal.
Otherwise i guess i'd have to root it. I haven't done this before. I found info about how to root but then you need to install a specific rom for this to work so what do i look for? Thanks again for the help.

It's also not just about where you live. You have to take into account where the person your talking to lives. Like with me. It's legal where my brother is but not where I live so if he records my call I can have him arrested.

I'm pretty sure all he has to do is tell you the conversation is being recorded. Think about the last time you called any customer support. 'this call is being recorded for quality assurance' or some BS.

That depends on where you live. Yes he would have to tell them before the call even starts. Here they cant record any calls so I have to tell them where I live so they stop the recording.

Unless you live in Vermont and probably not even then, if you inform the person they are being recorded you are fine. See below.

Thanks for trying. When on speaker phone, does it record both sides and how is quality?
Also, did you get best result with "record from line" on or off (settings)? Thanks again.

Quality was OK on speaker. My side of the conversation sounded better than the other end though. It simply wouldn't work with record from line enabled.

It says "Failed to record". Was that with line enabled?
Also, i'm not sure if you used the app i was referring to. The interface looks different. To clarify, i was referring to this Calls Recall app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eupheme.callrecorder see also the 2 screenshots below. Is this the app you used as maybe there are different apps with similar names. Thanks again.

official lineageos 14.1 has native call recording, im not sure about unofficial ones, sorry
I dont have this option too, in my device Oneplus X with official Lineage 14/2 and native dialer.
Don't have it either. It is not enabled in my region (USA), though it is perfectly legal. Please allow choice!
i came to this thread when googling for solution.for anyone wondering, native call recording do exist in the lineage os all you gotta do use some kind of apk editor open com.android.dialer in system apps and edit res/values/bools.xml search for call_recording_enabled and replace its value to 'true' then reboot phone. you will get three dot menu in call screen and record call button in there.

That doesn't work here. In my dailer.apk are two parameters for call recording: call_recording_enabled and enable_call_record, both are "true"... but no three dot menue...cleared dalivCache, too!

I can't play recorded files (AAC or AMR-WB)
It tries to work, but nothing is recorded in my case. i tried ACR and it only records my side of the call.

Is this the real problem? When you install Gapps, it overrides the lineageos dialer with call recording functionality?

Question Which phone call Recorder works on the OP9 Pro?

Hi,
I want to know if it's possible to record phone calls native? I assume this phone is being shipped with Google Dailer.
Is there way to still record phone calls (root or nonroot) that it doesn't notify the other caller just like in the native dailer of Google.
Magisk Module "Call Recorder - SVALEX" is running well here.
By theory if you are able to convert it to international and, also flash nolimits module, you will be able to enable native call record in the dialer settings. This is what I always did. Again, I can't confirm that this works on the 9 because I don't have it but, this has worked on the 6,7,8. Just trying to assist and, I myself refuse to run a phone without native call record.

Yap, it is 9.99 Euro, and it IS fancy. There are some things an switches to configure. Some important for me (encrypting the records), some don't (filter, who is recorded, who don't).
I use Jone plus tools with EU OTA. Always worked. Just require the Call Recorder Service option to be picked up.
I use axet's call recorder module from magisk. It is free. Only you have to remember to open call recording app once you reboot phone.
I've been using joneplus with oneplus' native call app, but it was not working good for me. If I put the phone to my ear before the call was answered, it did not work at all.
Used svalex version from magisk also and did not see any big difference compared to axet's. Had to open the app every reboot too.
To sum up, I stick to axet's as long as there is better way to record calls.

But you need to use the oneplus dialer for that and not the Google dialer that comes as the default dialer?

Install like any normal apk. Then set them as default thru Settings (default for messages, phone). Deactive the Google ones again thru Settings/Applications & notifications/Show all applications and pick up those Google to deactive them

Do you have to wait for someone you call to pick up the phone before you put the phone to your ear to call record work? Had this set up and if I forgot about this my call hadn't been recorded.
