Help on stock update installation problem - Google Pixel 3a XL Questions & Answers

Hi,
I am somewhat new to this area. This post may look silly to you, but any help is appreciated.
I am currently on the factory stock (July 5 patch).
Magisk 19300.
Kernel ElementalX 1.05.
Currently, I kept getting the 'couldn't update, installation problem' warning. It seems to me that the system figured out that I rooted the system and prevented me from the update.
It may look obvious, but how should I get the system patches? Should I manually flash them?
Thanks much!

You probably need sideload update using fastboot. Then re-root and kernel.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3a/how-to/how-to-root-pixel-3a-preferred-t3938783
See this section in that guide
If the normal OTA method isn't working - sideload the OTA update
Guide fails to mentions that you need to press and hold power when u see the dead android, press vol up, release power to get to the recovery menu.

Thanks! Yes. sideload fixed it.

That it will be the final version of 4.4 because the test has worked almost flawlessly at this update, and the test result is too absolute positive.

Follow the advise/success here.
You will lose root. Safe root will not work. It is a one way path when you are locked. There is no XML to save you if things go wrong.
But you can do it just as the unlocked ones do it.

It's the same file. With the first one you have to fix the URL, since the member providing it isn't allowed to post links, the second still has it's real name. This is not 4.1.2, it's the soak test for 4.1.2 which is 4.4.2.
Here's a screen.
sorry about you proved me wrong i had other sites saying it exsisted but when i would ask for proof they would become defensive and even resort to calling me names so i deeply apologize except to verizon wireless they keep saying update is out but everybody keeps asking where is it and their answer is its not in their area yet
everyone relax. Its slowly rolling out. Ive already got it.

Now I've unlocked bootloader on H815...

Can anyone please give me any helpers on the easiest way to Root and install TWRP on my H815, Im in the UK and Im running MM 20a official rom.
I have rooted other phones but not this is a new phone and isn't as straight forward as my G2 was.

I think I need to be already rooted to use this method, dp I not ?
I need to root and install twrp.
When i had my G2, the forums was buzzing with new Roms, it was pretty much a bullet proof phone, i was hoping for the same with the G4, pretty gutted that its so quiet in these forums for this phone.

No. Just install twrp. Reboot into twrp and install supersu. Be sure to not let twrp auto-install anything to root your phone.

Hope your TWRP sticks, I'm new to this and it took me 3 attempts to get it to stick.
To get into recovery
Hold both power button and volume down button pressed
At first sight of LG logo release power button 1 second, Still holding volume down, then repress power button.
You should now get white screen with just 2 options, select "Reset" , Select with Power button, scroll with volume up/down
Again get white screen and confirm reset
If TWRP is on phone it should now appear.
If its not you are in for a Factory Reset
:
Now do a default backup in TWRP (very handy this)
Then move systemless root zip to phone.
In twrp select install find your "systemless root zip " flash , then reboot using "System" DO not accept option to root your phone offered after selecting- reboot>system.
Hope its goes well

I am on the same boat as OP. I unlocked the bootloader after updating to Marshmallow, so I didn't have TWRP from Lollipop. Now, even though it says that the flashing went okay, there is no recovery to boot into. Using "adb reboot recovery" it shows the android logo with the exclamation mark. If I do it using the hardware buttons, I get the LG's menu to wipe everything or exit.

If you have root there are many apps on play store such as : quick boot, simple boot, quick reboot. Install one of these and and they all all have options for reboot, hotboot, boot to recovery, etc. etc.
I have TWRP on my phone and if I use the standard way to enter recovery , power+volume down, then I will get the standard LG recovery screen but when I accept the recovery options there, it takes me to TWRP

That's the problem, I don't have root. I need TWRP to flash the SuperSU zip, don't I?

@ Dante897 No, if you don't have TWRP then don't. don't say yes to LG Recovery or you'll loose everything . You can also run TWRP on your PC and install systemless root zip that way. That maybe what I did, I can't exactly remember now.
I'm off to bed now, last night was a late night too.
I figured it out. You aren't supposed to flash the recovery., you are supposed to boot to it, flash SuperSU and then use Flashify to install TWRP. I did that, but I flashed the wrong SuperSU (I am an idiot I know) and my phone won't boot now. Currently I am in download mode and downloading the rom with LG Bridge . You can follow the guide here if you want http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-bootloader-install-twrp-root-t3128241 but whatever you do DO NOT flash SuperSU 2.46, grab the newest from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125&postcount=3
I cannot say that it will work, all I can tell you is that 2.46 certainly doesn't work.
EDIT: Alright, I let LG Bridge install the update, no wipe happened. I did the process again, this time I flashed SuperSU v2.62-3 and everything went well and my phone is now rooted.

I also had an issue with TWRP sticking. I followed someone else's tip and you have to have the twrp IMG saved on your computer and also on the phone before flashing recovery with fastboot.

[GUIDE] How To Update To Nougat, Install TWRP and Root

Nougat TAR File Now Available!
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767156558
Things You Need To Know First
There are two variations on the 3-button method (also known as the "three-finger salute."
Volume Down + Home Button + Power puts you into Download mode.
Volume Up + Home Button + Power puts you into Recovery mode.
You will need Odin, which is here. With your phone in Download mode, Odin allows you flash firmware files (also called TAR files) and Recovery images. Odin is available from here: http://www.samsungodindownload.com/ Any version that starts with 3.10 (like 3.10.6) is fine. No need to update. Put the Odin files where you can find them
Getting Started
If you are on stock and have not rooted or changed the Recovery on your phone, go to Settings, scroll to the bottom, System Updates, Download manually. That should get you to Nougat. We'll come bac to this in a bit.
If you are Rooted and have TWRP installed, you have the option of a Clean Install. Which I recommend as this is a major update. This will wipe your settings and apps, you will need to begin all over, but it is worth the inconvenience. You can use Titanium Backup (TiBu for short) to back up apps and data, but you run the risk of things not working right. Your choice.
1) Download the Nougat TAR file and put that in your Odin directory.
2) To do a clean install, go to TWRP. Wipe, Advanced Wipe, then select Dalvik, System, Data and Internal Storage. WARNING! This is going to wipe everything, so back up your pictures, chat logs, etc. FIRST! Don't leave TWRP after this.
3) Still in TWRP, go to the Reboot menu. Select Download. Your phone should now be in Download mode.
4) Connect your cable, open Odin and select AP and point it to the QC7 file. Click start and wait awhile. This is rewriting your Recovery and operating system. It is going to take some time. Your phone should reboot.
5) Once you are done, you should be on Nougat. You will need to log in, like you were setting up a new phone.
6) Now to install TWRP and Root. Power your phone down. Once it is shut down, use Volume Down + Home Button + Power to get back into Download mode. Grab the TWRP TAR file from here: https://dl.twrp.me/zerofltespr/ Put that in your Odin directory as well, but wait before flashing. Open Odin, go to Options and de-select Auto Reboot. We don't want the phone to reboot until we root it first. Otherwise it will overwrite the TWRP file and return to stock recovery. Now we can flash the TWRP TAR.
7) Your phone will still be in Download mode. Hold the Volume Down + Home Button + Power buttons until the phone shuts down. It takes some seconds, don't panic.
8) After shutdown, hold the Volume Up + Home Button + Power to get into TWRP. Grab the root file from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/root-s6-nougat-supersu-t3570740 (don't forget to thank @dr.ketan for his work) and copy that to your phone. Flash in TWRP and reboot.
9) You now have a nice, clean, Nougat install with Root and TWRP.
Let me know your comments and if there are any steps that I need to modify.

Thanks, rooted no problem. I like the new ui so far and battery seems better already, as well as signal. Anyone figure out hotspot? I tried the flashable fix and idone but figured neither would work this time. Whats odd is the hotspot and tethering app appears to be for verizon? I froze it and it doesnt affect hotpot under settings.

You'd be able too. You'd just have to flash a tar file from 6.0.1 through odin.
Would it be possible to use this method without wiping the device, and not brick the phone?

Yes. I did this and I'm not having any issues or battery drain problems. You'll have the best experience if you do wipe, though. I'd do a backup either way just in case.
Out On Travel
Glad that this is working out for everyone. I'll be gone most of next week on a work trip. I'll check in on my return.
Have fun with Nougat!

Check on the Xposed thread, this is only for TWRP and Root. (I don't use Xposed, I'd be as likely to tell you the wrong thing as I would be to help.)
As of February, I heard that it wasn't ready. See http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...r-says-be-patient-a-nougat-version-is-coming/
But again, I just don't know for sure.
Yeah, there is still no xposed for nougat now. What a pity.

QB1 is the latest TAR file available. To get to Nougat you need to take the OTA. Which is why the instructions say "Connect to your network and follow the instructions above about System Updates. Once you are done, you should be on Nougat."

From what I understand you can not do ADB in TWRP to install an update. What I did was download the factory images, remove -w from the flash all.bat. flashed the images and let the phone boot normally. Once I knew it was running I went to the bootloader and booted TWRP temporarily. Once that was up I flashed Magisk and then my kernel
I don't install TWRP anymore.

I'm running the stock rom on the November patch. I have TWRP installed with Magisk and the Kirisakura kernel. I've read and Googled for a solution and still can't get it to work. I have the latest ADB told installed but I am unable to push the update through. Can someone tell me what I'm missing? This used to be so much simpler lol. Thanks in advance.

Adding to what hatdrc said, you want the full image, not OTA, and install from your PC in fastboot mode. If you are concerned about saving your data, remove the -w switch from flash-all.bat first using a file editor like notepad. Have the twrp.zip, kernel.zip and magisk.zip files already staged. I personally don't boot to system first (but you can), I "catch" the reboot after flashing completes with the volume down button to reboot to fastboot mode. Then fastboot boot twrp.img, and then install twrp, kernel and magisk zips all in one go using the "add more zips" button in twrp. Every month when you update, you'll lose twrp, kernel and magisk, so those have to be reflashed each time. You'll soon get used to it and can do the whole thing in about 5 minutes consistently. Just make sure to pre-stage the 3 zip files on the phone before you start. Best of luck.
I tried that but couldn't get it to work. I downloaded the ADB tools again just in case there was an issue with that. I'm going to run the flash-all script again to see if I can get it to work.

if whats suggested above doesnt work, you can make the OTA work....download the ota to your PC, boot to Android Recovery (not TWRP), apply the ota via ADB from the menu. Whenever I have "odd" issues applying the Full image, this always works for me. Obviously you need to re-root after.

Yes it does. TWRP replaces the stock recovery.

Ok, I got the flash-all script to run. My brain shut down and I was running the wrong command.

Well done. Now you can do it all over again in a week on Monday the 7th when the January build comes out.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 SM-T320

Hello
I was able to update my SM-T320 from CM13 to CM14 by downloading CM14.1 (20192101) and the Gapps on the sd card...Everything went well
2 days ago, I saw an update available, and downloaded it FROM the tablet (Lineage OS CM14.1 from Jan 28,2019)
But now when I click in install, I'm not sure what to do next
It takes me to Recovery Mode, then I select "Apply update", and then my choices are:
-) Apply from ABD
-) Apply from Emulated
-) Apply from sdcard1
I don't know what to select, and I can't find the downloaded file in sdcard1
Thanks
You should not get any question in twrp. First try to update twrp.

How do I update TWRP? Should I just install the latest and greatest, or is there a specific procedure to follow?
And how do i know which version I have right now?
By the way, when I boot by pressing power + vol up, I get "Cyanogenmod recovery", with the following options:
-) Reboot system now
-) Apply update
-) Factory reset
-) Advanced
Does that mean I do not have TWRP installed at all?
Thanks

Any step by step procedure? I don't want to brick my tablet !
I've just downloaded Odin V3.13
And TWRP-3.2.3-TwrpBuilder-mondrianwifi-2018-09-22_02-29
How should I proceed?
Thanks
oK, so I google it and found how to install the latest TWRP for my tablet with Flashify
Apparently, everything went well..........
Now, I go back in Settings>About tablet>Lineage OS Updates
It says LineageOS 14.1 Jan 28,2019 and I have an "Install" button
So looks like I still have to do a manual Installation, which I did
And it worked...........
The only thing that still doesn't work is Netflix: i can login, browse, select a movie, but when I want to play it, i have the Netflix red screen and it keep saying "Loading" !!!
Thanks
I'm having tons of issues with the wifi.......when streaming from my server using VLC, i have disconnection every 5 minutes or so....................VERY PAINFUL !!!
Is this a well known issue? What is the fix then? Is there any specific adjustment to do somewhere, or install a specific driver (my wifi is strong, I'm using an Orbi mesh system)
Should I try to reinstall the latest and greatest version of the ROM?
thanks
Where did you download the rom for the Pro 8.4? I don’t see it anywhere on download.lineageos.org/ and I’m on 13 and Disney+ says not compatible
