[Bug/Issue] I keep hearing "Charging sounds" even through not charging - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hi, after the Q update, my phone keeps pinging the charging sounds even when I'm not charging it. Anyone else facing this issue?
Also, my charger is working in only one direction randomly. I already RMA'ed the phone on the same issue when I upgraded to Pie from Orea. Now it's happening again after updating from Pie to Q.. Haha .. Any suggestion here as well?

It happens for me from time to time but not for along period just like 6 to 8 pings then stops... Really wired lol

Yes! Exactly.. And that too in a short period..

Sent in for repairs..

The update changed my notification sounds to the charge ping. It also made that noise when I was in a call and got notifications. Check if that's what happened.

Nope.. I confirmed it by muting all app's notification sounds.. As a matter of fact, for a fraction of a second, the phone shows it's charging when the sound comes.

After a clean flash of the Android 10 image, I've got the standard "ping" charging sound that can be listened for example on Android One devices. Any idea why the cool new one introduced with Android Pie is replaced by the old one?

Having the same issue with my 2 xl. Randomly shows charging but I have my phone on vibration so no sound. It started as soon as I updated to Android 10

I've got the same issue, has anyone solved it yet?

Hey I've got the same issue, it just popped out today and it's so irritating that makes me wanna break my phone... Has anyone figured out what's wrong? How to fix it? I know disabling charGing notification sound can help with sound but I'm worried about battery since it shows charging for half sec and then goes off... Really google? Is this what quality means for you?....

After a long discussion with a tech support agent, we concluded that when we update the phone OS to major versions (8>9 or 9>10) the USB port firmware is going for a toss and only a company level patching / reflashing can fix the corrupted firmware.
So, if at all any issue occurs after a major update with USB it's very likely because of the corrupt firmware which can only be fixed with a phone's visit to the service centre .

Anyone has experience to solved this issue?. This still happen on my 2 xl, I hope it will be fixed after security update on this december. But, still happen until now. I don't know why. Please share if anyone found how to solve this. Appreciates.

Do check if all other usb functions are working: audio dongle, data transfer, two side charging etc. If anything is not working, the problem is with the driver software in the phone and has to go for service.

I have experienced this same issue, charging notif keeps bugs me every minute a day after the december update. I tried to buy new type C cable and adapter and the charging sound suddenly stop until now. Try this, i promise it may help you. Thank me later

[Q] [SOLVED] Galaxy Nexus speakerphone mode

I dropped my phones while skiing and some snow must have got in because now, when making or receiving calls, I can not hear the other side and they can't hear me unless I use speakerphone.
No media sounds play any more, however the phone notifications and alarm still work. I understand that perhaps the media speaker has broken but why is the microphone still working only in speakerphone mode?
Is there an independent microphone/speaker set for speakerphone?
There is nothing else wrong with the phone.
[EDIT] Another side effect is that the Google voice search was not working.
Install this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.seb.audiotoggle
I think it will actually solve your problem. It did for me when the exact same problems started to bother me today after skiing as well!
You need to start it at every boot as it don't stick between reboots. Consider using a startup manager.
The problem seems to be a mix of hardware and software in the headphone jack, but I have not examined it much yet.
Thanks for the reply. The app you suggest should be very useful and I will download it anyway. However, this to say that the phone had fixed itself this morning.
I put the phone on charge overnight, and this morning, it asked for my sim unlock code, which I thought was very strange! But I entered the code that I had received from my network provider and now everything is working as it should.
It was probably something do with the remaining water inside the phone or possibly the cold temperatures.
Good to know! Maybe my phone fixes itself during the night as well
Still working?
Has the issue remained fixed for you? I ask because I have the same thing - the symptoms are that I can't hear anyone and they can't hear me, all media sounds are off, and the phone can't hear me.
I ran Tasker to monitor things, and the phone keeps thinking I plugged in headphones (with a mic), so that explains all the behavior. Running the headphone toggle app works temporarily - sometimes only a few seconds.
After doing a factory reset, sound would still come and go. With my Nandroid backup back on, same thing. I want to return it, and so I put everything back to stock, and noticed that now the bootloader is locked again, the issue is gone (for now).
I just wanted to keep the discussion going because I can't even tell if it's hardware related or not, and other people probably have this problem, and it takes some snooping to realize it's the headphone connector (vs sound settings, speaker issues, etc.). It could be a short (my guess) but now that it's working today I can't return it as the tech would probably claim nothing's wrong. I also already used up the one return my stupid carrier allows, so I'd rather fix it myself if it's software-related, instead of sending it out for repair.
I still have this problem, even after cleaning the headphone plug. My guess is that this is a hardware problem affecting only a few. It makes the phone pretty much useless, as you can't hear the other part talking, so I made myself a software fix that resets the sound routing the the default speaker on every boot and incoming and outgoing call. I guess I can share the apk-file if anyone is interested.
Give it a try: ----
Can release source if you are interested, but I am currently in a car getting ready for a ski weekend
I am also having this problem with my Galaxy Nexus. I would be interested in seeing the source, if you are still up for releasing it.

See attachment for source, I also added a compiled apk file in the zip-file. You can open the project in Eclipse if you want.
Thanks for posting the source. I was able to work with it fine.
I've replaced my Nexus with a new one under warranty. Hopefully this one won't have the same problem.

Thanks for releasing this! It works great!
I was going out of my mind trying to figure out what was going on. I was unlocked, rooted in stock 4.02 when this started to happen. I thought it was bad signal quality because i only noticed it when I stopped being able to make calls and use voice dialer. I only listen to music with a headset, so never even noticed that it wasn't working with the speaker til I tried to play a youtube video.
I actually upgraded to stock 4.04 with new FA2 radios and thought I had cured it, only to have it happen again. When I read this I tried resetting all my notification sounds (Handcent, et al) hoping somewhere there was a conflict, but still couldn't find it. I'm using NOVA launcher - wonder if there's something in there?
Anyhow, I gave up since your audiojack.apk works great! Someday when I have time I'll go back to troubleshooting to see where the problem is coming from.
Thanks again!
Works temporarily

This worked, but the OS will eventually think the headphone is plugged in again and I have to press the "Force Speaker phone" button again. I wonder if there is an event that is fired every time the OS thinks the headphones were plugged in? If so, that event can be captured and code could look to see if the headphones are turned off by the user and ignore the event.

If you want the same routing fix as audiojack but have it done automatically in a service try this.
There is an issue with a lot of Galaxy Nexus where the OS thinks the headphone is being plugged in and unplugged on its own. Try this free application to resolve it:
Search Google Play for Wired Headphone Routing Fix

Worked for me on Verizon GN. Verizon already has a replacement on the way... guess I should've done more extensive searching for a fix first!
Spoke too soon. Seems as though the screen doesn't shut off while I am on a call. Guess I'll give the replacement a try after all.

Phantom ring through auxiliary line?

I don't even know how to begin to troubleshoot this because it happens once in a blue moon, but when it does happen, it is annoying as hell. Every now and then, when I connect my phone through the auxiliary port to play music, there will be a phantom ring that persists even as the music is being played. It's kind of a quiet ring.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the auxiliary cable does not fix the issue. The only way I can make this go away is by rebooting my phone. What in the world is this and has anyone else ever encountered this? I'm losing my mind thinking maybe the ringing is in my head, but others who have been in my car when this happened can confirm that I'm not a lunatic.

I read something about this. Some say the .10 update fixed the issue, and as a work a round placing a call resolves it or a reboot WITHOUT fastboot checked. At work atm and cant look up the references for that sorry, just what i remember.
I nvr had it on mine yet and it seems to happen when switching in/out of 4g/3g modes as well.
I've had this happen only once. Only it was over bluetooth while streaming audio to my car stereo. Had to reboot to get it to stop. WIERD!

i had it happen on my dna! but it only happened when i was out of signal, barely into 3g! it stopped when i put it in airplane mode and a reboot!
Well I'm glad it's not just me who has experienced this, but is there any way to completely resolve the bug? It's pretty annoying when it happens and even more annoying that it's difficult to replicate.

From what i seen on the VZW forums the only way to kill the sound is a re-boot or make a call of some kind.

Audio problem

Verizon google pixel xl 128gb
i successfully unlocked bootloader on the first try and installed googles latest image and ive been experiencing some problems with the audio. at first it wasn't playing anything at all. top earpiece works fine with calls and voicemails. but when i tried to play music or system sounds nothing would happen. ive restarted the phone multiple times and it worked but it kept cutting in and out. has anyone run into this problem before?
Yup same here. Verizon Pixel XL with unlocked bootloader, rooted, on the most recent November OTA. My audio would work for a while, but after the phone goes to sleep sometimes, the audio just stops working. I'll hear a pop from the speaker when the audio is supposed to start, but no audio afterwards. I can still get audio from the headphone jack and bluetooth though. A restart usually fixes it, so I don't think it's a hardware issue. Most likely a driver/software issue.

Yes same here when I would get a notification sometimes instead of the full notification chime it would kinda just do a quick pop/squeak ...I'm wondering if our devices have defective speakers or if it's just software. Can you do a quick test for me? Download AnTuTu benchmark and run it,and on the first video scene I think it is called maroon turn your volume all the way up and then try to turn it down one click and then back up and then back down and see if you here a clicking noise when your adjusting the volume back and forth

I'll try that. Out of curiosity though, are you also on the November Security Update? I haven't seen a lot of people complaining about this (this is a pretty serious issue) and I know a lot of people haven't gotten the OTA yet. So maybe the November OTA broke it.
Edit: Ran the test, I get the clicking noise.

Edit: also, I've seen some people complaining about a similar issue on the Pixel C. They say certain apps caused this issue. For instance, do you run Greenify? Because it seems like this happens after the phones goes into sleep mode.

Thanks, I'm going to hang out and see if anyone else chimes in with more info before declaring it hardware issue
Edit - no greenify like I said I tested on a complete stock factory reset with only antutu installed
My audio hasn't cut out for 4-5 hours now. I turned the volume down a bit and it hasn't acted up since.

Sound cutting out

Has anyone found a fix for the sound cutting out after a few seconds of a video or game? I have tried the soubdabout app, Turing the USB option off, disable Power save.. Still happening..

I have the same issue sometimes, I've read around the web and it seems to be a mix of software and hardware related, I read a guy suggest removing and putting back the case (in case you have one) and I did that and the sound came back, haven't had the issue again.

Hmm, I keep mine out of a case,.. Yeah I'm not sure what it is, it's a 50/50 between some say software and some say hardware. I would asume that software would of been fixed by now, either Samsung or 3rd party

So I found a solution for the issue in my case, it does seem to be software but it's really weird cause the issue continues in any firmware, it started when I was on 6.0.1 PI2, then I flashed Nougat and had the same problem (I hated it and battery drain was killing me) I went back to 6.0 and changed to the PK2 version and the issue continued, it was really weird cause it would cut out in audio messages, games but not music, I also tried every single suggestion on every forum and post I could find EXCEPT the Soundabout app, today I gave up, installed soundabout, selected media to speakers and bam, problem solved, I still need further testing, but it seems ok for now, keep in mind that I also have "prevent USB audio routing" on and "Easy Mute" off.

Low sound volume issue post AT&T Oreo update

Ever since I updated to 8.0 last week I have had to reboot the phone on a daily sometimes twice daily basis because all the sounds randomly become very low even though the volume for all sounds is at max. Very irritating. Anyone else experience this issue?
i have this exact same issue on my device i did a factory reset and it did not go away. this is why they need to unlock the bootloader so we can fix our our issues. im working on a flash script that i will test since i have others i can use if i need to rma this device.
You would think others will be chiming in here shortly after they update. I doubt we are the only ones that will notice this issue. I would hope and expect MOTO/Lenovo to push an update out to fix this and any other issues that may have been noticed in the Oreo update. This I can at least live with as annoying as it is, Unlike my issue with my GEAR S3 Frontier no longer charging post the Tizen 3.0 update!!!! Samsung has yet to address this bug rendering this product useless for now.
i called at&t and they are replacing the device since they dont have a way to revert the software or unlock the boot loader to allow me to fix this my self. once my rma shows up i will be doing some very risky mods to the device. lets see if we can get some traction on this device.

T-Mobile variant here. I notice this randomly too. As best I can recall it only occurs when I disconnect my Bluetooth headphones. Toggling Bluetooth on the phone seems to reset volume levels.

Good to hear it works for you as well. Maybe Moto will fix that bug in the next update, there is a lot of talk on the Lenovo forums about Bluetooth issues since the Oreo update.
