Problem with charging and connecting the phone to a computer - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

When I connect the phone to the charger or computer by cabel, my OP3 becomes brick immediately or after a while. Don't work touch, block screen, stops clock, don't work alarms and nobody can call me. I can't too turn off phone. All I can do is hold down the power button until the phone resets. I have OxygenOS 9.0.5. Once I flashed system and phone work for some time, but now problem is back. Anyone know what I can do?

Either the cable has a short in it or the charging port has a short. Use another cable and see if anything changes, if not, then there is an issue with hardware. I don't think a ROM/software would be causing this issue.

Cannot Sync - USB Device not recognized

i am getting an error message saying "USB device not recognized. One of the USB devices connected to this CPU has malfunctioned and windows cannot recognize it"
when i plug the phone in to the usb plug the charge light comes on for a sec, then i get that message and then the light goes off. I feel as thought i may have damaged the mini usb port (the cable is a snugger fit now) on my phone due to a drop, but it still charges thru the wall and has worked since the drop on the cpu, but now i am getting that message.
Help!
Are you having trouble making phone calls? I had this issue one time in my hermes, and its a brick now!
No, phone functionality seems fine...data and calls.
btw, the light also comes back on after the phone goes to standby.
Change the USB cable and see if it fixes it! If not, it might that the pins are getting a bit worn out in the phone.
don't have another cable to test right now, but the same cable works for another phone. not sure if that proves anything, but it's all i know for now

Yes. From past experience with various charging issues with different Hermes before (car chargers not able to charge unless powered off, then rebooting plugged in to keep the charge going), finicky usb cables, etc. ), I know that the hermes can be funny with charging/syncing to begin with. But since i had dropped it and it landed right on the port and bent it a tad, it really feels like something got damaged a bit. Not enough to eliminate the charging from working, but enough to give me problems....like this.
Example, i have never had this problem in the wall before, just mainly in the car, and even then it's usually when the battery is very low: When i plugged the phone into the wall last night, it wouldn't charge right away. once it went to sleep mode it started charging, but i i power it up the charge light goes off.

it work for me
thank you for the tip, but no luck still
in the "USB to PC" under your system settings, the box to "enable advanced network functionality" sould be checked by default, uncheck that box and you should be able to connect and sync through usb with no problem
I've done that...it feels like a hardware problem, but since the port works kind of it's hard to call it a hardware issue. techs i've talked to have said if it works at all then it must be software related

[Q] USB re-soldered, no charging.

So, my nephews fire had the USB come loose from the motherboard which required me to reattach it. I got it re-soldered but it won't charge. It does however connect to my PC (had to transfer a rom to it to unbrick it, long story) I feel confident that all the pins are making contact, the only thing that may have happened is the small chip that connects to pin 4 may have gotten overheated. would that cause this issue? if so does anyone know what kind of chip that is? it looks like a resistor but i can't tell what value.
Update: I was able to get it to take some charge through my PC's USB. have not since been able to replicate it though. I am beginning to think one of my connections may not have held.
Ok, it charges on the wall charger now as long as it is not in sleep mode. it will also charge on the PC if it is in sleep mode. My computer also cannot seem to load drivers to access the internal storage. Do i need special drivers for ICS?
This may be a dumb question, but since ics doesnt properly indicate when charging is occurring, could it just be that you didnt leave it long enough? You may want to test it on stock instead...
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA
I might try that. I have been having a hard time getting to consistently charge. sometimes it will start charging for a second or two then stop, or it will not start at all. currently it is in sleep mode attached via USB to my PC and the amber light is on.

Phone doesn't charge

Hi everyone!
When I connect my phone to the charger, it doesn't always start to charge the battery. Only about every 10th time it succeeds.
I tried 3 differnd usb cables, all original sony. It's the same with all of them.
I tried to move the cable in the phone, but it's stable. Also if it charges, I can't stopnit by moving the cable.
For me it looks like a software error, as if the phone doesn't allow to charge.
Does anyone have the same problems?
Any idea how to solve this (in best case without wiping the phone)?
Thank you in advance!
This is a recent problem or have you always had it? You think it's software so does it do it with different roms, or have you tried? I read somewhere the usb port on the phone becomes faulty easily, this seems more your cause, if your certain it's not the cable.
Not Charging as Well
My ZL is not charging as well i plug the AC charger and it gets bootloop.
It stop bootlooping after 1 hour and show the charging icon, but it does not charge.
Do you guys think it is the baterry or some issue with the power management.
I tryed to Charge the baterry with and old Universal Battery charger it hold a little power.
The Cell works when i turn it on with the wall charger but show only 1% of battery
Please guys help me with that.

I don't think it's a hardware problem. I used 3 different cables, all original sony. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. I'm using USB otg a lot (got my videos and some mp3 on a stick), never had problems with usb connection.
I didn't have those problems for a long time, but I don't remember any special apps I installed in the last few weeks.
Didn't try any custom roms yet, I'm very satisfied with my current setup (except for the charging problem ). I'm using latest stock with google crap and bloatware uninstalled.
Hopefully the lollipop update is coming soon. If it's not too buggy I will give it a try.

USB not working at all

Hi,
the G4 is truly the worst phone I ever had.
The power button doesn't work correctly and sometimes does a double click and sometimes doesn't work at all.
Then I had the bootloop and rescued it by flashing a new firmware.
After that the USB worked fine.
Now when I connect USB it charges very slowly but doesn't do the usual connecting sound. Also the pc doesn't recognize anything.
I opened the phone and the USB connector looks good and I also measured the connection to the test points. So it might be a software issue.
Anyone with the same problem or an idea what I can do?
Thank you!

Have you tried a different charger? I've had some issues with the LG charger that came with the phone and I've had better success with my old Samsung charger.
I did. And when USB was still working the Samsung charger also worked much better. But now all are the same and barely charge.
Sounds like a defective phone.. all sorts of problems. Bummer.

Phone won't charge with original charger

Hi, I've been having this problem with my pixel 2 xl that won't recognize any usb-c to usb-c cables. It will only recognize a usb-c to usb-a cable but will keep restarting the moment I plug it in. I've tried many things like restarting, trying to charge while it is turned off, booting into safe mode, and even updating to the Android Q beta (hoped they would've fixed it then), but nothing seems to work. I'm confident that it's a software issue since there would be random glitches where the original charger would actually work, but every other time it doesn't.
Also, I'm actually considering switching to a custom software. I'm thinking since the software is the issue, maybe it might help to fix it. Has anyone ever experienced this issue as well?

That's the very first thing I did. It's not an issue with the port since it works perfectly with a Usb-c to usb-a cable. Just it doesn't fast charge and it constantly reboots with it.
I'm having the exact same prob. I've cleaned my port, tried it in safe mode, and did several resets (soft and hard). I spoke with Google and they offered an exchange since it's under warranty but my glass is cracked so that voids it out until I get it fixed. They said it would restart afterwards? I'm stuck trying to figure out if I want to fix it and do a swap, try different firmware or just get a different phone all together??
I'm having the same issue. Started this week.

Your testing methodology is flawed. The restart loop occurs at the P2XL splash screen, which means control of the device is still in the hands of the bootloader. Since the bootloader is outside of Android, Android cannot be the culprit. As a result, neither safe mode nor Android Q would resolve the problem.
Have you attempted moving your data off the device's internal storage and reinstalling a stock ROM using the included flash-all bat with the -w flag present? While we have determined that Android itself isn't the culprit, Google's ROM images also install bootloaders and basebands, either of which could be the source of your issue.
Once a stock ROM from Google is installed, test your device. If the restart loop occurs, then your issue is NOT software, but hardware. So then you'll have to test the hardware. Find a charger from a different device and, using a USB-A to USB-C cable attempt to charge the phone. If the restart loop does not occur with this combination, then you know the P2XL charger is faulty. Otherwise, the charging circuit in the P2XL has malfunctioned and thus service will be required.
Are you all on Android q beta or is this happening to stock non rooted too? I'm on q
FYI, I had this same problem a few months ago and it turned out this is a relatively common hardware issue on Pixel 2 XL.
It usually starts by occasional failures to charge (original charger), then it becomes more frequent, then you can't charge and find that the only option is an usb-c/usb-A cable (less power involved). Finally every time you plug a cable it restarts the phone.
Did all possible known troubleshooting, cleaned the port, engaged Google remote support, ...
At the end, the conclusion is that sometimes the port gets loose and related wiring becomes unstable.
To fix it, I had to send the phone for a port replacement.
Working fine since then.

I had a similar issue after the July update. If I plugged the original charger and cable in the phone turned off. The only way I could charge it was to use a USB-A to USB-C cable with a slow charger (non QC) and the phone had to be off. Did RMA with Google after doing safe boot, reset and other things. They noted the security update as reason so maybe that's the problem?
I have the problem since pie and even though Google accepted to RMA the device at first they then declined to do it because I didn't have the the purchase id of the device.
I'm doing the rma while I can. The more I read about it, the more I think it's due to the faulty fast charging. It might be damaging the charging port and causing these problems. What I find strange is that some other users also started having these problems a week ago like I did.

Port overheating may be causing it to become loose. That's my impression due to what happened to me.
Mine started working again. Weird
I just did RMA because of this... The new (refurbished) device is working now....
I edited the post because when I first tested my charger wasn't plugged in and I though that the new device had the same issue... ....:silly:
In any case do RMA..... Before this happened my pixel only charged with one side of the cable connector (any cable) then it magically got fixed and after two weeks it didn't charge with originals chargers (only when it was turned off)... Definitely was something hardware related...
