Random Pausing? - Google Pixel 3a XL Questions & Answers

Has anyone had any issues with music randomly bring paused? At first I thought it might be an issue with my earphones, but it also happens on my Bluetooth speaker. It happens on both Phonograph with local music and Spotify so I know it's not a stream getting interrupted. Running Stock Pie with latest security patch, Magisk 19.4, and latest ElementalX Kernel for TWRP. I also feel like at one point I had this same issue on my OG Pixel XL but can't remember what fixed it.

You can try switching off battery optimization for the music apps. This I had to do for BubbleUPNP, otherwise the app gets kicked out of the memory after a few minutes and hence stops playing...

I've had that problem but only while using bluetooth in my car. So it could be a problem with my car stereo or the phone, but it doesn't happen often. I am completely stock not rooted.

Music Stops playing randomly

Does anyone have this problem? I'm on the latest version of AOKP with Franco Kernal...Everytime I listen to music, it will randomly stop and I would have to press play again. This happens at random times, (seconds, minutes, hours). I'm using Google Music (Play Music). I have tried PowerAMP and other players, but they seem too all do it.
It's kind of bugging me

It could be a bug with Franco's sound hacks he implements in his kernels. Perhaps try using a different kernel?

hmmm...can anyone else confirm this that's also using Franco's Kernal....
I get this on stock. I thought it was related to another piece of software (pocketcasts) that I installed about the same time the problems started. Seem that the first song is played, then it pauses or stops.
Could be a buggy headphone connector (in the phone), where it send a faulty signal telling the system that you have unplugged the headphones. Does it only happen while using headphones?
My connector does that as well, but opposite. When not using headpones it sometimes signals that something has been plugged in, and all audio is routed to the non-existing headphones.
this bug definitively occurs on francoKernel!
Try flashing another kernel (Popcorn for example) and the bug is gone.
Seems to have something to do with the sound limit. If it's too loud it stops automatically. Try reducing the volume to 60% with the hard buttons and you'll see that it stops acting like that.
It's not a Franco's kernel only problem. I have the same issue on Stock 4.0.2 (GSM, unlocked, unrooted).
It is not the headphone connector that is buggy either since i'm experiencing this with bluetooth headset as well (A2DP headset).
The music app is not crashing either since it doesn't require a full "load" when i select the app. Press play again and all is good until next time.
It happens to me on stock as well. With both the music and listen apps. Seems to happen if I'm playing music for a half hour or so without using the phone.

I have noticed this. When i turn down the volume it stops doing it. But when i turn it up to max it will start doing it again

I experience this on google listen on stock 4.0.1. I thought it was a bug with the app losing audio focus. But then they updated and claimed an audio focus fix, yet it still happens. I can force this bug to happen by multitasking moderately. So i truly think this bug is related to the over aggressive memory management on this phone.
Yea I'm using Axi0m and I notice this. I think its an issue with the headphone jack. When I installed power amp, one of the features is to detect connection to the headphones... then the phone started to randomly start and stop playing music completely random.
I updated and it seems to be fixed. Still stops occasionally but at least I can listen for an extended period.

I'm running Lean Kernel and I get this all the time when I have the volume set to MAX on the device itself, I find if I turn it down just a bump then the problem goes away. This may be some type of fail safe for the phone itself. ??? But just turn your vol down one click and you're good to go.
I always had issues playing music with franco.kernel, it did me just like you are talking about. That **** used to drive me crazy! Anyways, no issues with CM10 M2. Also using the built in CM kernel.
yup, had this thing on both stock and codename android. google music app
Just gotta wake up this thread.
I'm having this issue on CM10.2... I had this same thing on stock JB some time ago when I connected to my BT headset..
Is there any fix for this?
Btw.
I don't use any custom kernels and this is not caused by any kernel and I don't think this to be caused by BLE.

I had the same issue and realized I had the volume up too loud with the mods I had installed. Keep the volume below 80% and the problem will disappear.
Possible solution
I used to have this issue as well, where after a certain period of not actually using the phone, the music playback would just pause itself.
I discovered that I had Play music "Greenified" which is basically a hibernating task manager. That was killing the background process of any music players I had open.
Wether or not you have the Greenify app, check for any automatic task killers and get rid of them.. Maybe that will help one of you guys, it sure helped me.
Only had this happen using headphone volume boost... don't use it

Music Problem

I have installed the latest build of PAC rom, and even before this I installed the new Liquid Smooth rom, all this on the same day. I wiped factory data, dalvik cache and everything else. When I listen to music while the headphones are in, and click into the app drawer / any other app, the song I'm listening too gets cut off, and it comes back on where it left off. It is extremely annoying, when the phone itself is in sleep and I'm listening to music it works fine, when I try to open up another app while my headphones are in, I consistently hear the crackling noise. I can't even listen to music properly, how can I fix this? I've installed other music players and its the same result, crackling while using the phone, no music crackling when phone is sleeping, could it be a hardware issue? I'm thinking it isn't because I updated to the official release of the Liquid Smooth rom today, which was EXTREMELY buddy, like legit couldn't handle the number of reboots that happened in 1 hour and the horrid battery, and it only started happening today, I am now on PAC rom and it is still happening, I tried rewiping and reflashing but it doesn't work. Any help?
This seems to be an issue for some on the latest build. If you've installed correctly and still face the same issue you can try reverting back to this RC2 build with the new headphone fix. It seems to be the most stable even with the music issue.

Bluetooth A2DP stutter cuts out while streaming music

I have noticed since I upgraded from GS3 to Note 3 that when I am streaming music to my car stereo the audio will skip or stutter. The song continues to play but the audio cuts out for anywhere up to a second or two. Has anyone else seen this or resolved it?
I have seen some posts that say turning off WiFi fixed it but I still get the skip, if a little less frequently with WiFi turned off.
It seems to go away if I set the developer options to keep the screen awake while charging. So it seems like the CPU clock may be too low during sleep to maintain everything else it is doing as well as audio streaming.
Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!
This happens to me too sometimes. It seems worse when I first start streaming & then it calms down a bit. But it still occasionally skips. I experienced this on my note 2 as well though, so I don't think its an exclusive issue to the N3.
This is happening 4 or 5 times per song, so it is quite annoying LOL

Stock ROM? Stock Kernel? Need more info from both of you.
Sounds like the CPU might be dropping too low when the screen is off, causing the stuttering. You could try a custom kernel with a higher screen off frequency.
Used to happen on my S2 and this was the problem...

Full stock, I believe that is the problem as it is pretty much resolved when I leave the screen on. Still testing this here and there to be sure.
This has happened to me on every rom & kernel I've tried. Which is pretty much all of them for the N3, and everything from stock to CM on the N2.

I have the same problem on my GN3 international version and yes leaving the screen on WILL solve it. However, that's not a practical solution.
Try this, download Poweramp, go into settings, audio, advanced tweaks, set the audio buffer size to Large (+250ms) and audio thread priority to +2
See if that works for you. If it does, then buy the full version even though I like the timbre effect and bass on the stock music player but this is the only solution, so far.

What headunit? I run Kenwood KDC-X995, and never had an issue with it cutting out. THe headunit wouldn't display track info though. The way I fixed this is connecting via the Stock Samsung media player., Everything has been a dream since
I had this problem and it just went away after a few reboots and some time. ..

BTW, what player are y'all using? In power amp there is an option for keep service awake if music.stops while.playing with screen off. And there is also option to use a wake lock also. I am not having any problems nor have I ever so I can't help. The only other suggestion I have is maybe your radio Bluetooth sucks. I went through a period of testing many Bluetooth headset and receivers a couple years ago. Needed something good to listen to my music while I rode my bike. Many of the Bluetooth I tested were very sensitive to the bumps and vibration while riding hard on my mountain bike. The only solution for those were to put receiver right next to my phone. Being in my pocket was too far away or something. I ended up sticking with Sony mw600 as all purpose. It could take any headset, and I was able to use it as a receiver in my truck as it didn't have Bluetooth. Now I also have a Honda civic with built in Bluetooth and all is well. My Sony mw600 oled stopped working though so in on lookout for a nice apt x receiver.

I am using a Sony DSX-S300BTX and have had no previous issues with my HTC Sensation 4G or my Galaxy S3. It only started when I got my Note 3. I use Google Play Music with the All Access service.
Just an update on this. Over the weekend I did a factory reset and this time I did not let it restore settings and apps from my Google account. I went through and installed all the same apps i was using before. And so far I have only noticed 1 stutter/cut out since then. And if I am correct, this only happened when I was leaving my house and it switched from Wifi to 4G LTE on the stream.
Will continue to monitor and see if the issue comes back. But so far I am rather happy.

I came from the Note 2 to the Note 3 and I'm fearing that it's 4.3 that is causing the bluetooth intermittent issue. Whether or not I stream from Pandora or my music player, I get the stutter. Doesn't matter what ROM I use between hyperdrive and beans too. Someone said it could be the adblock that is causing the stutter but I don't have that installed at all. Getting pretty frustrating.
Ended up not working for me,...but keeping the screen on did seem to eliminate the skipping.
Wonder if there's anyway to force Bluetooth not to sleep,....

I ONLY get the stutter when using the stock music player. It never happens when using, for example, TuneIn Radio.
I exchanged 2 Note 3's. The first one had the stutter problem so I returned it. The second one had NO stutter problems but overheated from time to time, exchanged as well. The third one doesn't over heat but, unfortunately, has the stutter problem. So, I just gave up. The PowerAmp solution works for me, though.

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you.
Someone mentioned increasing the minimum CPU frequency and that would solve it. Try upping it to 400Mhz see what happens but this will definitely drain your battery more than usual.

The same thing happened to me on the note 2.... actually the n3 isn't as bad as the n2 was. Fwiw
sent from my ??????? note 3?
SO I have started to notice that it isn't actually the stream stuttering, but a short disconnect of the bluetooth. I noticed that when the music cuts out, it also drops the media connection to my car stereo, in that the artist and song title disappear until the connection comes back. Seems like a bad bluetooth stack or something as I tested a Nexus 5 and do not have this issue at all. And I never had a problem on my GS3.
Hopefully the 4.4.2 update will resolve this issue. Whenever that may be...
I have this problem as well, (stock rom rooted, stock kernel) I use power amp. now however I cant stream my music through bluetooth at all, but when a call comes in, it streams. Doing a little digging into my phone, my N3 seems to think im in a call, and only plays my music through the speaker for your ear. it only started a few hours ago. even when I am not connected to bluetooth, it still plays music through the same speaker. tried uninstall reinstall. I did update apps earlier when I got home (ove wifi). once they were done, that seems to be when this issue started.
any help/suggestions?

Bluetooth issue: Sharing has stopped

Hello guys.
Phone is rooted to recent MOAR rom. Recently I have been having an issue when connected to my bluetooth JamBox the bluetooth cuts out after the song and plays out of the phone for the first 10 seconds before reconnecting. An error message that says Unfortunately bluetooth sharing has stopped.
This is an isolated issue to my phone as others can connect to it and play continuously without issue.
I have tried to clear data on my bluetooth files in titanium backup , even installed and tried BLE crash resolver to no avail.
Anyone have any fixes for this?
TIA guys
please...
okay...so I wiped all data and reinstalled teh moar rom I had on. Now... I can get the bluetooth to play thorugh the speake.r... ok
before the reflash.. I would play on spotify and would get the error that bluetooth share stopped. the sound would cut out and play through phone for first 10 secs and then pick up through bluetooth speaker.
Now...at end of song the same error pops up but there is no cut out of sound. Next song keeps playing fine.....BUT if I try to fast forward it will temporarily cut out sound to phone and go back to speaker. Please help.
There are two probabilities!
1. It can be a BUG in the ROM
2. Or else your JamBox must have some kind of problem.
Try the same thing with your stock ROM. If everything works fine then its a BUG in MOAR ROM.
You can connect to the developer and give him bug report, he'll probably solve it in his next version.
If Bluetooth still disconnects on stock ROM then its a JamBox problem. You need to replace it.
Regards,
hitman-xda
well...I had been using this rom for atleast 6 months no issues. Now I can use pandora just fine no issues and music stored on sd card. . MY wife with same phone regular stock can play the spotify just fine...no issues. so why is my phone and spotify having an issue especially since i relfashed...?
Try to clean flash ROM.
It'll probably help you.
I did clean flash. Still won't work right
OKay.. so I found a nandroid backup on my phone I made. The wicked S5 experience one that had an old spotify version installed. Surprisingly the spotify played without error. So I backed up the spotify in TB and then reflashed MOAR. I restored the old spotify and it is working still on this rom as well. The latest version of spotify is what was giving it issues. I'm hesitant to download the new version of spotify from the playstore and give that a go. Weird issue though. My wife has the same phone (stock though is the only difference) and the latest version of spotify and hers plays fine through JamBox.
So I did end up installing spotify from the app store and the same version that wouldn't work previously now works. I must have fubared something in the operating system files or whatever is responsible for spotify and Bluetooth.

Bluetooth audio stutter/skipping

This is incredibly frustrating. I had none of these issues with bluetooth on my S8+ whatsoever.
So one annoying thing that stood out was the bluetooth on this device. It keeps skipping and stuttering tracks whenever I play it on my Bose QuietComfort 35. It's normal on all my other wired cans but I usually use the QC35 alongside my phone during commutes.
Just to clarify, I'll list down all the "fixes" that I've tried. Obviously NONE of them fixed, or even alleviated the problem.
Cleared cache (this one just doesn't make sense imo)
Removed battery optimization on my music apps
Turned off WiFi & Bluetooth scanning
Switch Bluetooth audio codecs
Updated to 4.7.6
and PLEASE... if you DON'T have this problem, do NOT post how you DON'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM here, I'm looking for fixes, not jokes. Thank you.
I also have a QC35 and I don't have any issue but I post anyway
Joking aside I'm using 4.7.6 and my QC35's firmware is 1.3.4 and using the HBC codec.
What's your bose firmware ?
What do you use as a music player ? (I'm using the default Google Play music)
And what do you mean my "It's normal on all my other wired cans" ? Why would wired headphones have stutters ?

Everything's the same as you except I use PowerAmp as my music player and SoundCloud for streaming (both stutters/skips as well). I stated that I didn't have this problem on my wired headphones just to clarify.
I notice the problem most when I'm commuting and I have mobile data turned on. It went even more haywire when I downloaded something on Google Drive. Hopefully it gets addressed with Android Oreo and the official Bluetooth audio codecs being implemented.

I just said that switching Bluetooth codecs didn't work.
I'm having Bluetooth quality issues as well, particularly crackling and skipping. I noticed that if I download a file while streaming the quality will drop dramatically and the audio stream will crackle like crazy. I have tried all three codecs in nougat to no avail.
Should I upgrade to Oreo to get this sorted? Do custom kernels cause issues with the quality?
Thanks.
OnePlus 5t, theOne 7.1.1 (stock basically), viper4arise and Dolby
Update: when into EX Kernel Manager (specifically under the misc I/O settings), and change the I/O from ZEN to FIOPS. Not once has the music stuttered since, though I have only tested on SBC. If I get more results I'll bring them in.
Please note - I am on blu_spark, and I honestly do think it may have been the cause of the bluetooth skips/scratchiness. I turned off Dolby Atmos and Viper just to be sure.
Latest Oreo Beta build. Stream bluetooth, Pandora, iHeart and talk on the hands free no problems here. Lexus CT200h vehicle.
Would really check your cars manufacturer website. Most have a section where you can download latest firmware to a USB and flash your car to ensure you have the latest bluetooth firmware.
Working flawlessly on my car.
Anyone have any experience with the Oreo update?
Since updating to 4.7.6, I've experienced the following issues:
despite being connected to a bluetooth device, sound still comes out of phone speakers
static/distortion for a few minutes when initially connected to my car (2017 Chevy SS)
Upon connecting to car bluetooth, randomly the phone will call my phone number
I can usually fix these issues by either going into airplane mode for a minute or two or rebooting. Sometimes, I have to do this multiple times.
I've cleared cache but made no difference and I don't want to have to factory reset after every single update. Is it possible to flash factory images without nuking your data? You can do this with Google's Nexus/Pixel factory images.
I've got a different problem with 8.1 and BT audio. After upgrading to android 8.1, suddenly my car audio system doesn't receive songs data (artist, song, album). It's just display "no title".
Does anyone encountered similar issue?

Ugh, exact same issue. I don't suppose you're using a car with a UConnect system in it? Dodge, Jeep? All those crappy brands?
I am able to make phone calls just fine but I can't stream audio to save my f**king life. This happened right after the upgrade to 8.1 and latest update did nothing to fix this nor did it mention the issue. Has Oneplus even acknowledged the issue?
Im actually having the same exact issue, with Uconnect on a 2017 Chrysler 300s. Bluetooth skipping and sounds like crap. Have tried pretty much everything so far and no fixes
this what happen to me ...bluetooth to speaker klipsch ... sometimes got crack sound ...i mean wtf
Has anyone been able to figure this out? I'm still experiencing issues as well. OP5T and QC35.
I've been working OP support for almost 2 months via email and the cannot figure out how to fix this for be BT CALLS sound terrible,
I'm having problems with Bluetooth in a ford fiesta 2015. The phone is on 8.1.0 stock, no root. The device itself connects to the car perfectly, but fails to download the phone book, and says I loose signal when trying to make a call. The device registers that I've asked to call a certain person but nothing else happens afterwards.
I didn't have this problem on 5.0.4
