i set it up for my visa card in germany. works flawlessly. didn't try to pay yet, but everything is configured in googlepay.
but: your bank has to support it (ING in germany does: www.ing.de ).

This phone supports mifare classic. It has nxp pn553 chip if I'm not mistaken, and I can read classic cards with Nxp TagInfo and MCT without any problem.
Edit: Checked it again and it seems that nfc gives errors quite often while interacting with mfclassic cards. Not sure what causes this, though.

Thanks for checking, and indeed looking up np553 specs says it is suposed to read mifare classic, i'm hoping those errors can be fixed with new rom updates or somethin...

There is another workaround if your bank doesn't support, you can link your bank account to PayPal and give your PayPal credentials in Google pay.
Enable your NFC and in the secure element position settings use HEC wallet instead of Sim

[Q] NFC in the UK

Can we use this to pay for goods in the UK?
if so, what software do we need on the phone. There's a few shops in my town that have a contactless payment machine so I'm wanting to try it out.
any ideas?
Also, can these be used to scan and copy a proximity card for use at work to let me in doors?
I am one of the worst for forgetting my card each day so having my ID on my phone would be useful!

I don't think so. Basically Android has the functionality to read/write NFC tags and communicate with NFC devices that expect an active NFC device, but can't communicate with NFC/RFID devices that expect an NFC/RFID tag.

The simplest way would be to super-glue your Oyster card to the back of the phone. But that would impair other NFC uses.
With Visa and Mastercard support we are meant to get Google Wallet in early 2012. Source
I paid with my Visa PayWave card today at Greggs.....the lady there had absolutely no clue what just happened, she kept telling me to insert my card even though I told her that I've got a contactless card and the payment has already been authorized(according to what was displayed on the terminal). She had no idea if that's normal/allowed so she had to ask the store manager. What an embarrassment. I can only imagine what would have happened if I tried to pay with my phone - panic in the shop? It would take me 5 minutes to explain what I did. It's nice to see contactless payments being accepted in more and more places, but in most cases the staff has no idea what is going on. I even had it in McDonald's once.

I've been trying.
The registration page in My Barclaycard asks for phone number and SIM serial number. It expects a SIM serial number that is 19 digits. The number written on my T-Mobile SIM is 12 digits. I contacted T-Mobile and they gave me my full serial number - 20 digits. So now it is too long. The best they could suggest was dropping the last zero. It didn't work. So I still can't link my Barclaycard to a contactless account.
Even if I managed to do any of this, I still wouldn't have the necessary app that comes pre-installed on the Samsung Tocco Quick Tap from Orange. So I wouldn't be able to do anything with the account. Maybe it is possible to port the app from that phone onto the Nexus.
Are all Orange SIM numbers 19 digits? I guess the Barclaycard/Orange Quick Tap thing really does only work with Orange.
Ok, so received an email from the android bug tracker saying that it's going to get resolved in the next software update \o/

This is the wrong place, completely for this. Try the SGS3 forums. And it would seem to me, that the best way to check would be to try to scan something. I'd assume something with your custom ROM removes the icon. Just give it a test.
Also, back to the thread, I think you can scan some hotel cards. Not super useful, but it's interesting and fun to see what happens/whats on em

I'm guessing touching your phone to everything you suspect of being scannable.
You can read Bulgarian passports, it returns some data, that can not be seen unless you got a pin or key to restore everything on place.

I noticed that the other day when i rested my phone on top of my oyster card holder, my S3 made a noise everytime i lay it down on top.. My question is, what can you do with the oyster card tho?
tried it just now with my HOX and im not too sure what kind of app to use to read it so i got a bunch of them.
in theory, could i read the data off my oyster, and then write that data to a new tag, and then stick that tag on say an iphone and use it as my oyster card?

I asked about that with the Hong Kong Octopus NFC payment cards.
Its a negative as the card should have encryption and stuff to prevent this from happening.....

Hi, used some NFC enabled hotel key cards, library cards and lift passes. Also had some luck with different company badges.....and received a lot of feedback regarding nfc enabled public transportation tickets
Used all of them to trigger activities and settings with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.widgapp.NFC_ReTAG_FREE
Reads italian passport too, but without returning back nothing, only makes the sound ndicating that the phone found something. It should be useful for police to know if passports are true or no
the Mcfit Membercard and the Austrian passport
i read out my data of the passport with that app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=at.mroland.android.apps.nfctaginfo&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImF0Lm1yb2xhbmQuYW5kcm9pZC5hcHBzLm5mY3RhZ2luZm8iXQ..
then menue and setup access keys. insert your passportnumber, birthdaydate and expire date of the passport and if you scan the passport now the data can be read.

Ok, got the app working on a Vodafone GSM Galaxy Nexus, added both a Visa and a Mastercard with a US address, but when I touch the Select card below the respective card, a pop-up appears: "Error Please try again.". Ideas ?
Is there a list of store to see who takes this?
Could someone pull the apk for us internationals to download? Please?
Just use Market Enabler from Play to switch to T-Mobile, then the app will become visible in Play and you can carry on from there.
As for the "Error, Please try again" when trying to set a Visa/Mastercard as Enabled ? Anyone ?
Yeah, I did a fresh install and reset within the app. Still a no go through. I'll try and wipe data within settings. I really hope I can get it working since I never got it working on the Wallet app before.

Cannot get Samsung Pay to work :(

What type of card are you trying to add? It has to be a supported card or I think that random message will pop up. Only certain banks and credit cards are approved. I can add my debit card (supported bank) just fine but when I add my discover card (I don't believe discover is supported yet) it will give me that error.

Paying with NFC

Can anyone try to pay with NFC, like android pay or some bank app??
I cannot, and SAT told me that there is no issue founded...
I've payed already a few times with my own bank app, but it seems that the NFC antenna is a bit lower than normal... In most phones it would be around the camera, in this phone I've place like the are of the fingerprint scanner/middle of the phone in the terminals with small connection areas.
My model is the European one.
What country are you in?
Im using Android Pay without issues.

I'm in the US and use AP frequently. The NFC seems to be near the fingerprint scanner, so don't tap the top of the device, other then that works fine for me.
