Got the red/green TINT in your OnePlus 7T? Lets ISOLATE it together! - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

Lets try isolate WHICH units got this issue:
1. Chinese or Global edition?
2. Tint problem on 60Hz or 90hz or Both?
3. What is your unit's build number / revision?
4. 128GB or 256GB version?
5. Blue or Grey?
Guys, please respond so we can narrow down the problem.
IF YOU DONT HAVE THE PROBLEM - PLEASE ALSO RESPOND, SO WE CAN SEE WHICH VERSIONS DON'T HAVE THIS ISSUE.
Thanks!

1. Global (US, HD1905)
2. No issues on either 60hz or 90hz.
3. Not sure what you mean by this; I did notice the box has a 'QC' number. Quality Control? 0304N in that case.

Frosted silver
Green tint at 90hz and slightly less at 60hz
Color change from lock screen to unlock
Lock screen color just looks over saturated

Also my tap to wake ambient display has stopped working

Tmo glacier blue, don't know where to find production date but no problems here after thoroughly testing 60 and 90hrtz

T-Mobile
Frosted silver
No tint issue but night sight flicker only for unlocking with on display fingerprint. Should be normal.

Exactly the same situation. It's kind of maddening.

I have 2 units ordered from the OnePlus site (USA region) that have tint issues
It seems that replacement devices have less and some even no tints but it's a hit or miss typa situation
There's a rumour that the tint issue is actually a feature, a broken feature but a feature nonetheless and I'm starting to buy into it
Try checking if your tinting is constant, mine isn't constant.
What I mean with that is that the tints on my device are changing as the picture changes.
The tints are most visible with low brightness and then grey picture but the tints can be seen in the same areas using very strong night mode settings and then on white
Now, when i have a smaller white object and make it larger and even full screen in each of those three stages the tints and color of white all together look different
Check it out

I ordered a replacement through t mobile. Same color frosted silver and I don't have this issue anymore thankfully. When I held the devices side by side even the whites with same display settings looked like crap on the other one. Kind of yellowish....hard to explain. Anyway the screen on the new unit is great and colors seem to be calibrated much better. Anyone with the issue should get a replacement in my opinion.

Had mine couple of weeks and to start I didn't notice anything but more and more I began to notice a green hue at the top of the display especially when in dark mode and at a certain dim display around 10/15% taking a picture can clearly see top half of display is different colour ,
Just been on tech chat with Amazon and they have issued me a replacement coming tomorrow , I don't for one min think it will be any better but worth a shot , mines HD1903 EU we will see , if not at least I get a nice new one lol

Color saturation & accuracy

If you're colorblind, please disregard this thread. Rate this thread to express how you deem the color saturation and accuracy of the Honor 8's display. A higher rating indicates that you think that color accuracy is very high and saturation is excellent.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Accurate? Nop. The display is way to cold by default. Even on the warm mode I can see a bit bluish. The display need some tweaking. Get it right honor!asap!
well saturated display, wish it was amoled
I haven't received mine yet, but the Anandtech review highlights the display as one of the weakest areas:
CCT: 8919K (should be 6500K, far too blue)
Average ΔE2000 greyscale: 8.82 (this is colour accuracy, and lower is better - this is one of the worst of any phone)
The red and green points are wide gamut, but the blue is short of sRGB.
They have more numbers, but needless to say the LCD panel is extremely poorly calibrated, and they claim that none of the colour calibration settings make anything better. I'm hoping in real life, it isn't as bothersome as in theory.
Can anyone who has theirs comment as to these specific concerns, because they're what's worrying me most...
It's rubbish really. Good contrast but nothing about it is correct.
*Gamma ranges from 1.2 in the midtones to 1.8 in the shadows, and just today I noticed it gets even worse if the ambient light sensor detects very bright conditions (gamma is made even worse to increase midtone brightness).
*Black level is 7 or 8 RGB levels too low.
*Color temperature is very blue and the color temperature setting provided does almost nothing, the range is too small.
No way to correct any of the above. Photographers and graphic artists should stay away from this phone.

This has me concerned, I was seeing the Honor 8 as my move back to Android (on an iPhone SE now bought in anger at the Nexus 5X's unbearable slowness), but it may not be. I couldn't resist $260... I won't actually get it until just before Christmas as I'm not in the US, it's being shipped to a friend.
Are there any third party tools that could fix this, or any hope of better calibration coming in EMUI 5? It seems like the LCD should be good, and it is a purely software issue...
Waiting to receive mine so I can rate in all of this threads.
I really like this phone. Is there any way to recalibrate the screen?

Is this emui built in display color calibration for feature firmware? MM or coming in nougat update?

This has nothing to do with EMUI, it's not being developed by Honor.

Settings -> Developer tools -> Increase readability under sunlight to Off will probably fix the second part of the Gamma issue.
32 vs 64GB
Colors seems to be dependent on what device u have. Or maybe on what type of display is build in.
Actually i own two Honor 8, first one in blue with 32GB (since September) and the Premium version with 64GB in gold.
The 32 GB has a dark screen with blueish tint while the 64GB Premium version is the one that deserves his name. Rich colors with a nice touch of almost good balance in saturation. Should not be but it is so.

thats weired, so they are giving different lcd panels for different storage models??
I haven't heard anyone else mention it, so it could be a one off? I have heard of lines of phones shipping with the screens all calibrated (or not calibrated I guess) so that some ship with definite shifts in color so some units arrive with yellow, blue, pink, or green tinges to the screen.
In any case I would like it if Huawei had an sRGB mode option available.

This would be hard to provide given it doesn't sound like any calibration has taken place (given the reports of different panels). Reminds me of the Nexus 5... had three different Nexus 5s with different colour balance - one VERY different (warm and almost incandescent like, vs the very cool of the other two - one greenish and one purpleish).
You can't take a phone that hasn't been calibrated and go back and offer calibration... the screens need calibrated before they leave the factory, then you can offer calibrated modes. The best Huawei could offer us, really, is a gamut restriction (since the gamut is more or less a known) and RGB adjustment sliders.
They should offer at least the latter...
Agree

Yes, indeed, had this on my 32GB version too.

Here´s a (quick) comparison of my both Honor 8 (Gold = 64GB / Blue = 32GB).
Both set to Auto Brightness and both with same color temp.

Yellowish tint on screen?

Might be being paranoid due to 2 XL screen issues but has anyone notice a yellowish tint to the screen? It almost seems like off axis is more pure white and looking directly on is a warmer white if that makes sense. Might try to take pics but not sure I can capture it.
I haven't noticed any hardware problems with the display yet, although I do have black clipping in movies.
Instead of starting a new thread I decided to post my issue here because it's screen related. I don't have any yellow hue with my screen. I unfortunately have a pinkish hue on the right side of my phone. I saw it immediately after powering up for the first time. Kinda reminds me of the S8+ fiasco. It's just in the right side and starts about the middle of the screen and heads up to the top. I called Google and they took my issue very seriously. They wanted pictures and it's a very hard thing to capture with a video or pic but they said they could see it in one of the pics I sent. They have me play some white screen YouTube video and wanted a picture while that was playing. Anyways, they took my info about the issue to some higher ups and called me back about an hour and a half later. The person I dealt with was nice but a bit pushy with getting pic results. He was concerned about some widespread issue because the phone was just released. So he said that these panels have some color shifting (ok? Already went over that) but offered to send out a new replacement. That is me basically buying another and not getting charged unless my original phone isn't returned on time. I'm very disappointed with the screen having this issue. I went through the whole blue screen last year. I had to get two replacements until I received a "good one." Anyone else having screen issues with color?
Sorry to hear about your yellowish screen issue. If you aren't happy with it I'd return it. There are a few friends of mine that have great screens
Here is what I'm noticing. Maybe that's just the way it is and it's something I've never noticed before. The funny thing is I have a Xs Max and the Pixel looks better. Interestingly enough the second picture (pure white) looks similar to the Xs max if true tone is turned off.

My display is great. Beautiful. I'm grateful too because I went through 7 2 XL's before I found one with a display I could deal with.
Adaptive brightness, if on, will turn the screen yellowish in low light conditions.
Otherwise, I didn't notice anything since I received the phone today. I've been using it all day.
Nope, mine has been fantastic. Looks great.
Going to have to go check other devices in store. Can't tell if what I'm seeing is normal without another unit to compare.
No matter what phone you get an OLED screen is a lottery to how even the whites are or the degree of hues

+1 I've seen some "comparisons" saying the 3 was warmer than the 3XL they saw. I'm opposite here. Received a 3 before launch day. Nice, cool screen (which is my preference). Phone felt way too small for me so I picked up a 3XL at Best Buy yesterday. Quite a bit warmer than the 3. Returning that one today haha.

Haha If it's noticeable straight away and takes away the enjoyment of the screen then a swap is the best way. I've had devices from Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus, Google etc and I've had bad tints or uneven whites on them all..so part of the oled game

Colors/Screen quality ?

Hi,
After a week using my new Mi Max 3, I noticed that the screen colors are not as good as my good old Redmi Note 3 Pro.
Can it be a software issue or is it just the quality of the screen ? (my Mi Max 3 run on official Miui 10 Global Stable and my RN3P runs Xiaomi.eu Miui 10 dev rom).

As you can see, the colors and shadows of the exact same picture displayed on both phones are looking waaaay better on RN3P.
I was on the same screen settings (max brightness and high contrast), my RN3P also seems to be a bit more brighter (even though you probably can't see it on the pic) and my Mi Max 3 has a yellow tint that bugs me.
Could this be because of the software ? Xiaomi.eu on my Mi max 3 could help to solve this or not ?
Thanks for your help and do not hesitate to share about colors and screen quality of your Mi Max 3.
same result comparing my mi max 2 and max 3
max 2 screen colors are way better and more saturated
Saturated does not mean better. I use standard contrast for the best accuracy; mi max 3 is actually one of the top phones when it comes with accuracy out of the box in this mode. gsmarena reviewed the screen https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_max_3-review-1809p3.php
Increased contrast mode does remove some of the cold blue tint, bringing the average deltaE down to 4.4 and a maximum of 9. Pretty good, but we can probably do better, with some fiddling with the manual white point controls, Xiaomi so graciously provides. Luckily, before we started messing with those, we gave the "Standard contrast" mode a try and it left us truly amazed. An average deltaE of 1 and a maximum of 2.1. Those are values even most flagships struggle with. Especially out of the box. Xiaomi deserves plenty of praise in the color accuracy category.

So the standard mode is supposed to be better ?
Why do my screen looks even more yellowish on standard if the high contrast mode remove some blue light ?
Can someone show me some pics of their screen (with white menu background to compare) ? I'm starting to think that my screen has an issue

Leave it to automatic contrast - don't mess with that. Then go to Additional settings/Developer Options/Picture Color Mode/Use srgb - turn on. This is the best setting because in daylight it pumps up saturation to help you see in difficult sunlight while maintaining srgb color the rest of the time. Try it.

Maybe it's a xiaomi.eu option. I'm on 8.8.9 xiaomi.eu. Maybe try flashing the latest xiaomi.eu if you're already on ARB.

Question edge bleeding at low brightness

Hello, tonight i was configuring my youtube app and i noticed very bad colors at the edge of the display, when the background is grey. I was in a complete dark room, the problem is most noticable when brightness is about 15%. And no, its not only the app. The bad colors are visible at a brightness from 0% to 50%.
Do you guys also have this problem?

The Mi 8 has it also, that is screen uniformity. It is hardware and it seems very common the last few years. I don't have it on my Oneplus 7 pro but it is also present on the Oneplus 8, Xiaomi Mi 9 etc.
Some folks say it is normal on oled but it isn't.
Why are the no problems with oled on Oneplus 7 pro, Samsung s10+?
I have same in low brightness don't worry.

so your unit doesnt have this issue?
i have the same problem, always visible when you have a dark(not black) background, note i had before 1 samsung s2,s4,a5 (the a5 when i was watching a movie in dark scene i could see a yellow brightness in one corner,it was awfull)and a tablet from the same manufacturer and all had the same probleme but at different level,my last Mi9t was parfect and screen didnt show that but my new F3 has it ,one side is clearer than the other one
As far as I know it is because of the AMOLED manufacturing tolerances, it seems to be really hard to get a perfect uniform display.
It shows at low brightness with grey screen especially.
Discussion also happend with the Mi 8 here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...moled-uniformity-issues-etc-for-mi-8.3843180/
Lol, I was just about to start a topic about this when I saw yours. Only dark gray backgrounds and top left is brighter then bottom right. Disappears at about 25% brightness. On the photo it seems green but not to the eye...
So if I send the phone back I'll most likely receive a new one with the same issue?

Lol, as u can see, my issue is in the same area, but mirrored.
I think, if u send the phone back, maybe u will get one with the same issue on diffrent corners. Only if u r lucky, u will get a good screen but then maybe the vibration motor starts crackling xD
I will keep my phone, cuz everything is fine for now
Well, yes, I'm a nitpicker really and there's always a small problem with a device it seems. I can't find anything else so I guess I'll settle for a small uniformaty of the screen. After all it's only with gray and in a dark surrounding. When watching a dark scene in a movie in inperceptable and maybe I can switch more elements to black using a custom rom (hope lineageOS will show up).
And maybe when there's a way to do DC dinning and not PWM it'll be better....

It is in general really hard to get a perfect display, be it on phones or on PC monitors.
Also TN and IPS panels show their weaknesses at "grey" colors, it makes the uniformity visible to the human eye.
Additionally trails and overshoot of moving objects on a grey background are most noticeable.
Not sure why "grey" is so devastating
I don't know. I'm from NL and here we have a lot of "grey areas" so guess I'll have to get used to it
Mine has a similar grey gradient visible at low brightness and solid colors, but it doesn't seem to be discernible in anything but settings. My old phone has a "perfect" oled though, so it's definitely possible.
Solid colors seems fine, or my eyes don't perceive it...
Probably the same case as processor cores: bins. Maybe they pay less for getting screens that are not 100% uniform?

Question [CLOSED] Poco f3 green tint issue

Hello iam a new member on XDA,
I want to ask a question, can the green tint on the Poco F3 be minimized with just a software update?
and this green tint occurs when activating the screen in dark mode, 120hz, brightness is below 30%, in low light condission and occurs when displaying dark gray, will this get worse for long use or not?
I was worried because it was my first time buying a smartphone with an amoled screen
Thank you.

Someone tried hentai os and reported that there was no green tint in that rom, so it is probably a software issue. Lets hope it gets fixed in future updates.

Yeah lets hope its gets fixed in futurs update, thanks for your answer.
I'm still waiting on delivery for my phone, cannot comment on the issue right now.
However, I think a future software update can minimzie the effects of the issue.
I'm not sure if it can eliminate the issue altogether since it seems to be a prominent issue with all OLED panels.
Thats called (not uniform issue). It cant be fixed by software update. No matter what you do. Similar to Oneplus 7t/8t/8pro as well.
Don't think I'll ever use the brightness that low, but I'll check my unit once it arrives.
I was contemplating on getting the Blue color which I think is a newer batch, but I pulled the trigger on the Black on as soon as the seller on AliExpress allowed shipping to Canada (didn't want to wait to take a chance and have to wait longer).

Xiaomi Mi 11X/Poco F3 display green tint issues on dark backgrounds to be fixed with future OTA update.

I still don't think the issue is going to be totally eliminated, but I'm pretty certain the future update will minimize the issue.

I hope so, thanks you.
Sorry to say this but this is a difect inherent to the production of amoled screens.
i had 2 poco f3, the first( wich had also this difect) and a second one that i'm using right now that does have a perfect screen.
Having a good display is just luck, returning it might not solve the problem ( they can send you another one with a "bad screen") and the green tint is not eligible for repair
Software can't do miracles either beacause they can't calibrate a screen solely in the area of the problem and if they reduce the overall "green" of the display they make your screen purple on the "good side".
Also different displays are affected to different degrees so they can't release an update that is good for everyone

So based on your conclusion "green tint" on OLED type screens is a natural thing?
and depending on the luck of the buyer too
thanks for the answer.

Unfortunately, but it's true. Manifacturers doesn't see a partial green tint of the screen while displaying grey colours at low brightness levels as a defect.
Oneplus and Pixel Phones are also plagued by the same problem. you have to win the screen lottery to catch a good one
My K20 pro is oled screen and there is zero green tint in low brightness so it is not all oled screens. I think it shows more obviously on grey backgrounds so i will see if i use substratum black theme on apps when i get my phone that is if it fixes the issue.
you are right... its really obvious more when i have a OP7PRO next to it, the oneplus screen is perfectly uniform.
I will try take a photo with one next to each other.
This is the Poco F3 8 256gb Arctic White
Double post... idk why but xda gave me error.

I don't expect that. Do you really think that a software causing this?
Lower grade LED panel is the cause. Nothing new.
They can only try to "hide" the problem with some color profile management tweaks.

nop i don't think so, its sometimes less noticable depending on your screen colour settings but is always there .
During the day is hard to notice so is not that bad i guess?
But during night , man its impossible to don't see it .
Mine is like way too red on the sides and green in the middle.

I dont have strong background in electronics but this is my personal opinion. Please correct my terminologies.
I think, the quality of the Amoled display of Poco F3 is just too high. It looks like you are watching 144p video in a TV with 4k display to the fact that you can literally see the pixels. I think this is what happening here in Poco F3. The quality of UI esp. the grey is too low for the Amoled display.
What do you think?
