Gaming performance? (pubg, cod mobile. heating, thermal throttling?) - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi! Just ordered a redmi note 8 pro. My mi 8 dieda couple of days ago and I wanted a quick and cheap replacement.
I play a lot of pubg and cod.
Anyone tried benchmarking the fps (with gltools or gamebench for example), does RN8 pro keep 60 fps even for long periods of time? Mi 8 had som throttling problems, when the phone got warm, it lost performance and fps..
Been som news about RN8 pro heating. Does it throttle also?
Any way to stop the throttling? with FDE-AI or similar apps, anyone tried?

Found some tests on youtube. Doesnt seem to be able to keep 60 fps on lowest settings.. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=redmi+note+8+pro+fps+test

I am also thinking on buying either RN8 Pro or realme 5 Pro. I have seen a lot videos on youtube.
And I think its performance is better as compared to Realme 5 Pro but every Youtubers mentioned one thing in particular that heats up a little bit.
I am currently on Redmi Note 3 Helio P60 Variant. Even its performance is very satisfying for me with pubgfx Tool on Smooth + Ultra.
So it is going to be an upgrade for me either way. ??

It wont throttle and heat as much if you set it to Smooth Extreme. If you set it to HDR Ultra then the device will heat up, but it won't throttle.
For COD, High-High 60fps stable, heat is tolerable

I got the phone and are satisfied so far. Not quite as fast as mi 8. I noticed that game turbo improves performance and reduces throttling.
You can check these scores. One with game turbo, one without. you notice that without it throttles alot more

No, have only tried miui 11.

Any updates on your impressions?

as a former poco f1 user, i'd say its about on par with it as far as performance goes (on paper there is about 15% more power to the poco f1) the main reason i switched to this phone was the display and the bigger battery for the most part i'd say the display is better then the poco's especially because the notch is basically gone, as for battery i'd its around the same or the redmi note 8 pro is a little bit better, also i only switched to this phone cause i had a chance to do so for free and i don't regret switching honestly.

I play pubg daily (ace rank). Performance is good. Most of the time you get 60 fps, some dips to 40-50 fps at start of landing at hot drops. TDM and mostly domination feels laggier. Might be those game modes...

mi6 using a lower binned version of 835 than others

Ha e checked a bunch of videos of mi6 and in all of them can see that on running benchmarks .. the mi6 reports a lower score than what is expected out of 835 ... There might be a chance of using emmc 5.1 instead of ufs2/2.1 ..
Can anyone with the phone confirm the same...???
https://youtu.be/wdsK_RQOZDA?t=5m7s
I don't know what you mean exactly.... and the MI6 is using UFS 2.1 for sure.
Ufs2.0 or 2.1, I'm sure .
My Mi6, and it's using UFS 2.1

Not possible. I've bench mine and it's UFS 2.1 speed. I don't think they'll use emmc 5.1 on their latest flagships. Even when I had the MI5 it was with UFS 2.0 after I bench it to confirm. You don't even have the phone??
I agree
UFS 2.1 on mine too. Not sure what the OP is smokin

Probably had older software - or pre-release version of the phone.
Even mine scores 135k ....
Which runs on latest rom 8.2.23 china stable
Mine running on 7.5.16 beta global rom scored 176k antutu score, and that was with a few notifications coming through on messenger at the time interrupting the benchmark.
In real world game play I get some weird "sticking" in Minecraft PE. When you're mining stuff and then go to move there is a split second of lag and it jumps. I'm not sure if this is a GPU optimization issue or whether its the Mi6.. My Google pixel does not do this - its liquid smooth.
Other graphics intensive games like Pixel Gun, Asphalt 8, etc work smooth and seamless.. Zero issues
Interesting that CPU X app indicates the max speed of the SD835 on my MI6 is only 1.9ghz..??? Shouldn't it be 2.45Ghz?

I got 170k+ with antutu and I did have weird 120k antutu while the phone is overheating. So it's safe to say the test where they got 130k antutu is when the phone is overheating.
But by no mean Mi 6 is slow or use lower/underpowered memory/chip. It's fast all the time to me. Faster than all older chip powering phones I had.
On 7.5.16 global beta I was getting 178k+ antutu scores. after the update to 7.6.1 and a fresh wipe, around 171k now. Agreed its not a slow phone! doing well. Now all they need to do is fix the screen touch-move tolerance so that games are playable
Cpu x only giving info about 4 little cores big cores are clocked at 2.45 and little cores 1.9

Android 9 or Android 10?

Hi, guys!
I'm on A10 M3.0 stable on my Tencent version, but the battery drain is so much...; playing Pubg 90hz is draining like 15% each match of 25min. I did a factory reset. Nothing changes.
So I'm planning to return to A9 for now even losing gestures and some other things...
Which are you using? Your experiences? Your recommendations?
What are the advantages of each one?
I would like to discuss that because, as me, I'm sure we have more mates doubting about it at this time when A10 is not 100% perfect yet.
All you have to do is remove Facebook app and stop it's service from setting application the battery will be good
I would stay with Android 9. When I updated to Android 10 I had many issues. Over heating, poor battery life, games kept crashing. Won't lie, Android 10 did speed the phone up which was nice, the new icons looked nice too. But overall android 9 is better on my opinion

Did it. But anyway... I was spoken with people with A9 and my main prob is PUBG at 90hz, it's draining a lot of battery.. but they have the same prob, so...
In general, in Beta 11 it's fine. This is my usage. Stock kernel (thinking to put again Kirisakura... but let's see). I wanna say PUBG usage is at 90hz, not 60hz.
I don't use 90 hz with playing always use 60hz and no problems at all in general if you use 90 or 120hz you will lose more battery even if you don't play a game if you think about battery time you have to stay on 60hz

But in general view, if you have your system in 120hz-90-60hz it will change, but 120->60 won't be +100% of time because they are half fps.
However, in [email protected] is almost double than @60fps...
weird. i have no issues with android 10. it can be modded even more than android 9, and battery life is okay. also no overheating for me.

Brand new S20 is hot 40 ° all the time

Hello,
(I specify that I do not play any game)
My brand new s20 is at 40 ° all the time, it is very unpleasant to handle it, I always have the impression that my hands are very hot and the phone is often lukewarm. I saw on forums that this was a known issue with the S20s.
What is your temperature of your S20 in normal use? (I specify that I do not play)
Here are my measurements made with CPU monitor: CPU: 39 / Battery: 37
So I'm asking you what are your temperatures?
I'm pissed off because I don't know which fairly compact high-end phone there is nothing on the android side at all.
Thank you
Debloat useless system apps and your temperature will be fine.
I had the same problem in the first days.
I have debloated all i could...
Can you give me your temprature after a 10-15min normal use with CPU Monitor please ?

Question So I've bought the ROG6 to replace the X80 Pro...

I was on my mind for a while, but i couldn't take the laggy interface of NOT FUNTOUCH OS anymore and the awful inconsistent battery life anymore, which is kinda of a big shame as the camera ROCKS and is better than any phone out there easily(except the Mate 40 Pro+).
So, yesterday i've bought the ROG6 after many thoughts and here is my conclusion so far:
-Let's start with the not so good that all the reviewers have been pointing out... The Camera!
It ain't that bad, it actually quite good and useful during daylight and less during nighttime, but it's still doing the job.
Yes it ain't touching the X80 Pro, not by miles and miles and miles... but it's more than serviceable specially selfies.
-Battery+Speakers+Performance+Battery Life are TOP NOTCH!
I've got 8.10hr before battery reached 5%, and while it seems to be "low" since it has 6000mah, keep in mind that it was the first boot in which i've transferred all the data from the vivo, restored whatapp backups, played some games, installed YouTube, updates and had it all under 165hz all the time, so first impression of the battery is excellent( probably can get easily 10-11hr with 144/120hz usage).
Performance ****s all over x80 pro besides it being SUPER FAST, it did one thing that no android that i ever owned has ever done... CLOSING BACKGROUND APPS, it did NONE of it, all my apps were in the background and never reloaded, i'm still shocked tbh( outside some oddities like Tinder and OKCUPID, which android really hates).
Speakers are punchy, bassy and have good balance of volume, and you can force an "outside mode" that will make them very loud at some expense of the sound quality.
The screen is FHD+ but it's gorgeous, not matching the vivo or high-end Samsung screens but it's very good.
Asus has just 3 preinstalled apps and clean android, it boots and loads everything so fast that i miss it sometimes.
In conclusion, for now, it is the Vivo X80 Pro we deserve but never got!!!

I used Mate 40 Pro before and I have to say its camera is very good for both day and night situations. Just wonder how good is the Mate 40 Pro Plus's camera as you said here compared to X80 Pro? (you said x80 pro is better over most of the phones except the Mate 40 Pro Plus)
How about P50 Pro? have you have any chances to test it or use it?
Currently I'm still using S22U. Although the camera is not in the same level as Huawei in night mode, I found that its portrait mode is superior, especially 3x zoom portrait mode. The photos came out can be compared with my Nikon and Canon DSLR in terms of portrait (not kidding, I'm so surprised). So I guess I'll keep this S22U because I don't have any problem with lag, heating, or battery. I heard that the new update coming up in August can fix the shutter lag problem of the camera (my main issue currently). So if it's true then I would be really happy with my choice. Will look at x80 pro when the software is more stable in the future and the price dropped at least $100-200 more.
Mate 40 pro 50mp ai mode is unmatched, the vivo is much better during nighttime and slightly better zoom.
But overall the X80 pro phone as a whole is a disaster atm, not recommended.
I told you !!
Asus rocks ...
If they would spend a tad more on the camera and less on a backdisplay that's kinda useless and just have a faux leather back which would include Wireless charge then it would be a STRONG contender for any Android Flagship device.
Enjoy ....

Haha you were so ****ing right!
ASUS should make a combo of rog with zenphone with minimum gaming features.
Just customization of the software and hardware.
Outside the camera and screen, the ROG6 feels so far ahead of the vivo x80 pro it's not funny
Second day of using the phone, 165hz 1d 1hr 9.15hr sot!
That's how you do battery and don't excessively close background apps all the time, even with 12gb ram.
I'll keep the x80 pro for the camera and to see if Vivo can fix there awful software.

Question P6 vs P7 Surprising Geekbench Results

My wife has a P7 Pro and I've got a P6 Pro. I decided to run a Geekbench test on them and was shocked to see the P6 Pro scored about 5% higher than the 7 Pro. Anyone have an idea what would cause that? Is there such thing as an underperforming CPU?

Well there's a ton of variables that could affect those scores but yes, it's VERY possible to underclock a CPU, just as you can overclock it. I'm not saying that happened, but simply answering the question, as I have no idea the differences between them. OS can definitely affect this score just as much as CPU. So, what operating system (ROM) are both using, and kernels, ROOT magisk, ETC.? There's so many things that can cause this to happen that we will need a LOT more information to even begin to figure this out.
What I see here is your Pixel 6 performing better than average, I've seen scores from 2800 to 3200, but not higher, higher than that are rare, my highest score is 970/2843, can you tell which rom(beta, stable...), kernel, mods or modules and so are you using? Did you disable any app too?
Try using 3D Mark Wild Life Extreme or so to test 3D performance, or try antutu so you can have more info, thanks!
Thanks for the quick replies. I certainly understand that benchmark values can change from device to device or even day to day on the same device. I just never thought SoC's from 2 different generations would yield results showing the older device with higher performance.
Both phones are fully stock, not rooted or modified in any way with the latest Android 13 stable build. I only made this comparison because my wife's P7 Pro was having trouble taking more than 2 or 3 pictures in a row without temporarily locking out the camera shutter until the system resources cleared up. My P6 Pro in the same conditions had no trouble firing off 5 or 6 shots in a row without said issue.

Your Pixel is a 1% one, her Pixel has an issue probably, factory resetting one day should fix it, I'll avoid restoring a backup of settings and so to make sure it works as it should.
Make sure to clean caches and checking background apps, try also better battery stats to check what's eating up resources, it is probably an easy fix, but finding it will need some work, thanks for sharing
Well, If you spend time to read previous news and you will know it's normally because both chips are made by the same technology from Samsung. And the chip used by your P6P may be luckily packaged from the best performance of specific position of the wafers(Center dies or near center dies ...) ... So it's within the reasonable variation.
