Do all A50 model variants have NFC or just the devices with "N" in the model No? - Samsung Galaxy A50 Guides, News, & Discussion

Do all A50 model variants have NFC or just the devices with "N" in the model No?
Trying to piece together the info on which A50 models with which firmware variants support Google Pay and Samsung Pay. For instance there's a SM-A505G and a SM-A505GN, a SM-A505F and a SM-A505FN. I was under the impression that the "N" in the model number meant the device has NFC and devices without the "N" do not?

Yes

Is there any definitive way to know which firmwares on which models support samsung pay, or which LTE bands are supported on which models? There's SAMMOBILE, but it doesn't have all A50 models listed and not sure if the LTE info is correct on there or not.

A505W supports NFC
The Canadian version A505W does support NFC. I am using one right now.

No dual SIM on that one though right? Does Samsung Pay and Visual Voicemail work on your A50?

I don't think the N in the model numbers corresponds with having NFC or not. The last 5 characters of the model have something to do with the region and country.

Any mid range phone that doesn't have NFC these days should be a crime

No dual sim, Samsung pay works.
My service provider doesn't use visual voicemail so I can't comment on that.

Just learned that my new A505-F / DS does NOT have NFC. I was setting up GPay and says it does not support it. Doing a search, seems that the FN does.

Also FM model have an NFC (+MTP for magnetic stripe card emulation).

There is a NFC chip in Samsung A50. The part number is GH42-06264A . So, even though the model number is same, they may manufacture with or without the hardware. If the hardware is there, they may have disabled it. For ex: All Non-US Mobile phone manufacturers were asked to disable NFC chip by the US government.
Also, You need DRM keys to enable the hardware. As far as I know, there are no such keys released by Samsung

Dual sim on network blocked s9?

Hi to you all.
I'm about to buy a S9 from Vodafone.
Vodafone blocks the dual-sim functionality on all dual-sim devices that they sell.
However, a year or two ago I came across with a Huawei P8 Lite for my kid and there was a trick that managed to make the P8 dual sim once again.
We had to unlock the device with the proper code and then install the TPH Rom from Huawei.
Do you think that the same thing will happen with the S9?

I don't think so. On Samsung (not sure about others) they do not assign a secondary IMEI on the single SIM versions so that will be the biggest problem even if you find a way to activate it.
My point is that Vodafone does not have single sim phones. They sell the dual-sim S9 but they block the 2nd SIM functionality.
Not a hardware problem.

That might be true for Huawei phones but that has not been my experience with Samsung. Typically the dual SIM Samsungs are a different SKU, they are even labelled as 'Duos' on the device (I am looking at my dual SIM S7 now).

That was true until the S8....indeed Dual Sim models were different from single-sim models.
But with S9, there is no single-sim model in Europe, so the S9 that Vodafone will receive is the same... they just block de dual-sim conectivity, just as they did with the huawei models, that were all dual-sim.

Oh wow had no idea, thank you for the heads up. I have always wondered why Samsung have the option for either single or dual sim when buying direct from their site, particularly as they are the same price.

A50 NFC version VS A50 non NFC

hello guys,i just wanna ask about the different A50 NFC vs Non NFC,i already have A50 non NFC version and i thinking about to costume or mod my A50 to become a NFC version,is that possible or not? NFC is from the hardware or a software?
thx all
Nfc is a hardware chip so its not possible to make A50 nfc enabled handset
Is that a known fact? Has anybody checked if the nfc hardware is not present in non nfc enabled A50s? Some companies dont enable features in their phones for different licensing issues, but the hardware is still present.
Good Luck With That Move...
It's A Moot Point...
Either Samsung in your Region supports Samsung Pay MST / NFC or they do not.
You can try to flash a different CSC... but I would flash the "Un-Teathered" Firmware version 1st..... then try an Odin Flash of a specific Region's Firmware.
Good Luck With That..
If someone figures out how to activate NFC on the non-NFC A50, I would be very grateful and interested.
I bought the A50 in the UAE and never imagined it wouldn't have NFC in the UAE version especially since a lot of websites report the A50 has NFC.
All my phones since 2012 have NFC and I could not have imagined Samsung would not have NFC on a phone like the A50 in all markets.
I guess the first question is whether the non-NFC A50 has the NFC hardware / antenna installed? If it does, then maybe a ROM / region / software solution exists ...
I flashed the Indian CSC rom to see if activates the NFC function in my UAE (non-NFC) A50. It does not.
I suspect the phone does not have the hardware but I cannot confirm this. If anyone has any further ideas for getting NFC working, please share. Thanks.

I think that 505F has diferent hardware than 505FN because 505F is manufatured in India and 505FN is manufactured in S. Korea. So, Im pretty sure that 505F hasnt included Nfc chip on motherboard.
Tearing apart
I teared apart my A505G, and it dosen't have the antenna but there are 2 non soldered contacts. I suspect those are from the NFC, so maybe if I can get the NFC antenna from the European version, it may work. If someone know a repair shop that sells that, please notify me.

Need Clarifications on this mess of Model Numbers & eSIM

So,
Apparently Samsung implamented the eSIM tech within the S20 family...does anyone have a CLEAR understand of which model has what? Normally techwall has a great description of the different models. But there, not once does it mention eSIM, and only ONCE does it mention Dual Sim (988B/FD).
So (2),
988N -> Korean Exynos SingleSim(?) eSIM(?) Snapdragon confirmedOnly one IMEI
9880 -> normally the HK version with dual sim (the note10+ 9750 is dual sim), but is it? or does it have the eSIM enabled
988U - > US unlocked version normally dual SIM
988B/FD - > Dual SIM Exynos (with eSIM also, so you have the choice to use the 2 physical SIMs or 1 physical & eSIM & sd card)
So my questions is summerized by this :
Which Snapdragon has dual "physical" SIMs and which ones have 1 SIM and 1 eSIM... this is so confusing to me

as they "all have eSIM"... does that mean they also ALL have two IMEIs? as that is hardware based also i think. As you can see on this video : Sakitech on s20U at 0:27 there is onyl 1 IMEI. Maybe because it's a dummy version?

wrong
Search for eSIM... but it says "Global Variant"... so i guess the US models won't have them.
This is all very confusing.
I can't post the links cause I'm a new user. But Google for Galaxy s20 specs will get you to the global site. Compare those with the z flip on same site. S20s don't say eSIM. Z flip does.

There are Snapdragon versions with dual SIM.
Usually it's the Hong Kong version.
Here's a question. Can people who have the same model number but don't have 5G enabled (Indonesia), etc be able to activate it via a firmware upgrade, or through XDA magic? Max Weinbach mentioned that the 5G and non 5G phones are exactly the same.

Apple has had dual radio capability since the XS. (2018)
Kind of ridiculous we don't have it in USA with Samsung. Dual SIM is great, no more toting around two (or more) phones. In the past when they were SMALL it wasn't a problem but pushing 7" screen size, it's an issue. Fortunately my Grip6 belt can handle it!

Canadian S20 5G with disabled e-sim

Hi guys
I would like to know. If I buy a Canadian S20 without e-sim, is there a way to enable this? Its hopeless for me without the e-sim as I need to use it for business like my IPhone which has an e-sim.
Thanks if you could help

No, however rumor has it a future update may facilitate this function but don't hold your breath! There are International variants which offer Dual SIM's. Samsung should make this option more widely available.

I have the Hong Kong variant, it works in the US. There's a number of NFC Payment platforms, the main thing is your bank needs to be aligned with whatever platform you chose. Almost all banks facilitate Samsung MTS.

My experience with Samsung Pay and the HK variant is based on the Note 10 - out of the box, Samsung Pay will only work with AmEx in Canada with a dual SIM Snapdragon variant. Google Pay does work without any issues.
One other thing to consider - the HK/China/Taiwan Snapdragon variant does not have the same 5G bands as the Canadian one.
Quick Question. If you change the CSC to enable the e-sim in Canada. Which one do I use to still retain the Samsung pay and VOLTE?
thanks

Yes, just saw that... so I am sort of screwed right now with no options but to buy grey. No go as not even VOLTe will work.../samsung pay
Telus might be allowing VoLTE and VoWiFi on unlocked phones... I am so disappointed with VoLTE / WiFi needing to be baked into firmware on Android, what's going to happen when HSPA is retired? Also why was it so hard to begin with, the tower should be the keeper / sender of the related settings.
To enable esim, you must find the firmware from the region & telco that support esim , and you must change the firmware *and* the csc too. changing only one of them will not do.

Which firmware can I download for root if country is not on the list?

I have the SM-G985F. I check sammoible but my country is not on the list (Canada). Can I download any or am I out of luck?

You shouldn't need different FW to root your device, it's a Exynos variant. All you need to do is unlock the bootloader in Developer Options. Canadian FW's aren't compatible with Exynos variants as they're structured solely for Snapdragon variants.

It's not really clear to me what the purpose is of having different firmware's for different countries. I ordered the Exynos model from Amazon but it still works in Canada (though Samsung pay won't work and that may be related).

That's the sixty-four thousand dollar question! 27 S20 variants not counting carrier branded models. Totally ridiculous, Samsung needs to get it's act together!
