Magisk module maybe? I'd look to see if there's something available for that.
Are you running LOS as a GSI? Looking at possibly rooting my device, but I didn't wanna use a GSI if possible.

Thanks for the help! Yeah I'm running a GSI. The only ones that worked was LOS and I think havoc. Havoc was very off-putting so I chose LOS. The module you suggested doesn't work. I tried it a week ago and it targets Oreo ROMs. I was hoping for a kernel. Thanks for the help.

Gotcha. Yeah after reading the description, I started wondering about that.
What's your experience with running a GSI? Pros? Cons?

Lol, it's cool my dude! Well.... I have to say that my preferred ROMs are, AOSP Extend, ArrowOS, CypherOS and Paranoid Android. None of those work on this tablet so I'm using LOS. That bring said, it's okay. The stylus works along with everything else. The only downside is no exFat! I can't watch my movies on this thing. Most of my movies are a bit over 4GB files so it kinda sucks.
I mostly use the tablet to draw and browse Reddit and here. I do my comic book and other reading on my MiPad 4. It's so much more comfortable to use. I just wished there was a better case for it.
I'm gonna see what GSIs have been updated and probably test other ROMs. If you don't mind the blandness of LOS, I recommend it.

I've never had an issue with LOS, but that's probably cuz I like minimalism in my devices.. but when it comes to bugs or anything, is it stable, would you say? And as nice as exFAT is, I typically use EXT4 some I'm a big Linux guy.
Do you use any of the Samsung apps by any chance? I use the notes app and PDF editor and wasn't sure if they're usable

@champ784 my issue with LOS is that it has little customization when compared to other ROMs. As far as bugs go, I haven't seen any. The Samsung+ or whatever app is present so you can just the apps I guess. I don't use any of them but they are there. You can make a TWRP backup before you try any GSIs. If you don't like any of them you can just flash back. Just make sure got make sure you go up your files elsewhere or you'll end up with a huge image.

Gotcha, sounds good! Thanks!

You can compile a new version of vold that will work with newer versions of android.
Also, Exfat should work fine on this version - https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/releases/tag/v123
Seems to also work fine in Havoc, plus you get a lot of customization back.

If no, is there a way for one to be compiled?

That's fantastic. I'll give it a go sometime this week. I had a bit of an accident so my attention is somewhere else ATM. The Apps look a bit different from the S4 build, should be fun.
How do you like DU? Last time I gave it a try there were APN issues.

You got 2 vipers, are they different? I haven't used viper in a while, where did you get that one? (Haven't kept up with it).
Are all the apps in your screenshot in your build, or are those some user apps too? I only ask because that would save me some time setting one up for a friend (a noob friend who refuses to learn, lol). That looks similar to what he's asking for.

One is the regular viper & the other is the old viper (xHiFi), I only use it cause it plays in true 32-bit playback (Sorry audiophile here cx) & sorry the screenshot was after I removed the apps I don't want , but if you'd like I can make a flashable for you? For the apps & some debloating

Is there a ROM that just works?

I used to be on Pure Nexus and obviously that hasn't been updated in a long time. I went on two different new ROM's that supposedly have no bugs and I had tons of bugs after following the instructions explicitly.
Is there a custom rom that actually is bug free the widgets work, the screen turns on without lag, and Google Assistant works???
I have tried a few roms, but personally I feel that non other rom has a better battery life and overall smoothness than the stock rom, just root it with Magisk and enjoy.
Loving Resurrection Remix with EXnoshadez Kernel and Xposed Greenify. Great battery life. I've tried Firehound, Benzo, Pixeldust, and Lineage. I'm preferring RR then Lineage as a close second.

Why do you prefer RR over Firehound?
I'm using Firehound and I find it solid and has all the extras I need. I was thinking of trying RR, but there seems to be a lot of bugs mentioned on the XDA thread.
Been using RR for a few days and doesn't have any major issues at all. Everything's been working fine.

RR has INSANE battery life, barely drains even if there are 3 audio mods installed, I would suggest using that. There is only one bug that is going to be fixed
Anything wrong with stock in particular? The monthly updates are prompt and basically effortless without needing to flash vendors or wait for the ROM developer to update. If you're not on stock (nonroot, locked BL), you run the risk of one day not being able to use apps that utilitize SafetyNet in case you use financial apps. Magisk has worked well in providing ways to circumvent it in a timely manner, but it is not guaranteed to always be able to bypass every update to SafetyNet, which the developer has mentioned.
ROMs aren't going to change the chipset magically to a newer one and increase performance substantially or add mAhs of battery to double the battery life. Android has matured since the days of using ChevyNo1 or P3Droid kernels on Sholes.
This is the conversation I am seeking. I am not going to say what ones I have used but Maps, widgets, WiFi calling, black screen when turning on. I want to avoid those situations.

IDK man, I see all that troubleshooting you're going through trying to get the device to run normally through the Pixel section. Is it really worth all that just to be able to change some cosmetics?
Stock will give you zero issues and save you the headache of what you're going through. Wouldn't it be nice to never have to worry about plugging into a computer to update, formatting or data, or spend so much time trying to get a device working? While at the same time, you get the updates as soon as they are available.

OK folks. I want to apologize for my flooding of the forums attempting to repair my situation last week. Yes, I have been flashing for a long time without real complications. I haven't been on my ADHD meds for a while and that did not help me with the drama last week. Unfortunately my world like most of you is in my phone, I was panicked. Sorry about that.
Needless to say I needed other eyes on what I was doing for perspective sake. I went to my PC tech, luckily had personal flashing experiences with Android, Pixel even. We worked on it for about 6 hours in total. He couldn't get RR to work.
The issue was this after following the OP instructions. Once in the system I couldn't get the WiFi to connect with the phone, not being able to download whatever the phone was looking for. Google play services kept FC'ing. Google TTS kept FC'ing as well. I don't know if there is a fix or a forthcoming fix for this abnormal issue. I deleted data from the apps that were FC'ing and other Google that might be related. PS: not a RR issue I had this same issue with Benzo)
Unfortunately, we didn't save anything from the old RR setup because I couldn't be without a phone for another day. Any constructive thoughts would be welcomed.
I shall attempt to reinstall RR at some point to see if it works, or to get data to help the devs understand what might have happened or might had happened.
I am back on stock, not loving it that is for sure.

SIX Rom

Anyone tried SIX by R3Ds? I saw it on AFH but all I can find on G+ is about Walleye builds. Loved his ROM on Angler and would gladly run it on Taimen but always like others input on ROMs.

I'm right there with you bruh. Ran this as well on my 6p, and it was pretty much flawless! R3Ds has been making awesome roms for many years. Eclipse was a monster all dark rom back in the Moto X days. Why don't you flash it and let us know?? I'm going to after the April security patch, and when he updates it. C'mon bruh, flash that puppy!! ????
Yep I'd like some feedback on six also, ran it on my 6, fab rom
If I wasn't so uncomfortable with the way this phone is flashed I would have already lol. I think I'll wait till after April is released from Google and R3Ds puts out a build or so more. It was great work on the 6p though, I'm sure it'll be the same here.

Yeah....I couldn't get volte provisioning enabled. Couldn't even make phone calls despite installing carrier services, and doing the *#*#4636#*#* thing. Google camera kept FC on me, the aosp version worked fine. Lots and lots of tweaks for sure though. It's definitely a combo of aosp/Los/stock. It's a wip, but has lots of potential for sure! :good:

Apparently XDA won't let me send you a private message... No idea why. Tried both from the XDA app and from the website on my phone, it's bizarre. Anyway, appreciate you biting the bullet. I'm on Sprint so no volte for me to begin with. Aside from volte did SMS and MMS work? Calls are important but I'll have to test that to confirm for myself.
Also, since I have twrp installed already I should just be able to boot into it, switch to the opposite slot, flash rom and twrp then boot/setup, boot back to twrp and flash magisk, right?

Question One plus 9 pro custom roms

Hi everyone,
A few days ago that I have this device (european 12/256 version) and I'm already thinking about putting a custom rom , it seems that OOS is no longer what it was ....
Reading some of the comments I have a few questions:
Is it true that in all custom roms there is strange stuttering (does not run smoothly)?
With magisk hide option, the gpay runs well ?
What are the differences between the gcam and the stock camera ? (we lose video quality, monochrome type option? something else?)
There aren't many videos on youtube about custom roms and our one plus 9 pro, so if I decide to install one, I will upload some videos talking about it.
thanks in advance!
I'm in the exact same sutuation that you're in right now
Losing the stock camera would be the biggest blow for me. Gcam is good and all but not in every situation.
I'd love some feedback aswell so I start rocking some ROMS on this beast!
Idk I have flashed a few custom roms on my 9 pro. Only thing I really have issues with is gpay and and Android auto and Bluetooth syncing. Like I have a media player that has a USB port I plug my phone in and it goes directly to Android auto. But if I have a custom in it won't connect at all. And gpay it won't let me use it at all but I haven't really tried to hide with magisk either. The custom roms are awesome but I think as of right now cause the changes in 11 and 12 happening everything is off in some sorts.

Question Advice - best build or ROM I should be running now!

Hi all!
I have not been on here for several months but am starting to look at what's out there as of now. I am still on 12 and the June build with Kirisakura kernel. I would like to know what others are running so I can consider what to do next as it's time to start tinkering. Go to 13? Custom AOSP? What are most running now? And yes, I know the experience is unique to our devices so no need to point that out.
Thanks!

Yes it's pretty stable. Some system apps show the 'app not responding' popup.
I experienced very severe slowdown and lag on stock. I think it had to do with cloud syncing. Although, on PA I don't experience any slowdown. Stable enough for daily use imo. Use the latest version

Depends on your objectives. If you have any interest in actual security, you should look at GrapheneOS. Pretty much everything else is made by kids who have no idea what they're doing, so don't trust it too far.

Sandboxed gapps isn't flzwless. You can't sync contacts through google. If you consider graphene please research and don't just dive in like i did stupidly one day. It isn't customization focused so if you want to tweak stuff look into ricedroid or even crdroid. But if you want a secure os and don't use too much google graphene is the gold standard. Calling everything else garbage is a very terrible mindset. I try to encourage developers, not insult them like a certain someone in this thread

if you want any extra features grapheneos is not what you want, unless you are being targetted by somebody or are super paranoid its overkill imo

I second this.
Rice is one of the best custom roms here with loads of customisations and compatible with Kiri kernel.
I'm on stock for now but waiting for Rice 9

Is rice like stock pixel ROM with all the same features like Now Playing etc? Obviously I know it has loads more customisations. Thanks.

Of course you can sync google contacts. Use DAVx5 as the interface software.

I am using GrapheneOS (my own Magisk Patched build) and you are able to sync google contacts with the included contacts app, it took a minute for them to appear after installing the play services and stuff then logging in, as well as granting the appropriate permissions, google play services needs the contacts permission, it's very secure by default and because of this you will need to grant google some permissions for everything to work as it does on google stock, like the notifications permission

Graphenes extra features are more security features, it does have far less customizability than some other roms but is still a great rom for every day use, I don't believe you need to be paranoid to want the security it offers
one of the main things for me is being able to lock the bootloader and have full AVB2 protections
this makes my data much more secure if the phone were to fall into the hands of someone else
You are also still able to root the phone with magisk and have a locked boot loader with Graphene if you build the rom yourself or use the builds I provide, this allows you to use Magisk and LSPosed to make further modifications as necessary

yeah it does depend on your threat model ig, i find that i dont really need a locked bootloader so i dont mind
