Hi everyone, yes I was really excited and looking forward for the new device to upgrade my xperia 1. As there were some rumors of sony finally using one of their higher 48/64 MP sensors, but no they again opted for the 12 MP.
Please note this is not a rant just an honest share with you guys on this community, i am not sure who Sony is targeting, definitely not the general public.
I was waiting for this announcement to make a decision on my phone for 2020.
So in conclusion, I hope most of the software improvements like in the camera and Cinemapro can be ported to the original Xperia 1 here in this community, to give my existing Xperia 1 some more utility.
However, I did just go out and pre-ordered the Samsung s20 Ultra, Hope Xpeia 1 Mark 3 in 2021 do a better job!

More megapixels doesn't mean better image so don't just focus on the number
They will probably struggle to sell the phone again based on their decisions.
Camera software won't be that good and the lack of 90hz+ screen won't go down well.

12 MPx is more than enough to get good photos. Bigger sensors is pure marketing strategy.

Its true, more MP does not mean better photos, but this time i personally might wait and later buy the Xperia 1 M2 on the used market if the real world experience and hardware is up to mark.
Again just my personal opinion, also the community with with Xperia 1 was at a standstill, very few users, overall not very positive. Have been a Sony user for years now right from Z5 Premium and all following flagships.
I get my S20 ultra the 13th March, excited to move to a new manufacturer.

No point upgrading when it's pretty much the same phone

It should sell better than the first one. 4A/h battery, jack, SD, zeiss lens and bigger sensor (1/1.7" vs 1/2.55"!!!) and going from 52mm to 70mm focal for telephoto is a really good move. I still prefer the design of the Xperia 1 but if I didn't care for the planet and wasn't against the over consumption of ressources, I really would consider this upgrade, since it's a near perfect for me.
I hope the new camera app will come on the Xperia 1, give full access to manual control and that it shoots in raw.

Yeah the high price tag is what really set me back, hope they realize it sooner and put a more attractive price tag on the mark II when it put on sale later this season.

It is a welcomed upgrade, i will defo be considering it but one thing that ruins it is the software, now Sony are advertising the phones for professionals by professionals.
Maybe not those exact words used by they have certainly claimed that a lot of the tech is coming from their alpha cameras uses by professionals.
All I want to say is, it's all well good they have all this good hardware, they need to make sure their software plays it part as well.
I just hope the Xperia 1 MK1 does not get neglected now.

Yeah hopefully as I'm sure it will be a good phone but price will make it go unnoticed.
They should just take the hit for a year or 2 and sell them for 600-700, get the sales, prove they have a market then slowly increase price. They probably picked that price cause Samsung etc can get away with it

DxOMark is pointless though. You shouldn't even have to use them as a source for searching great cameraphones since they're rigged anyway.

Is there any telegram group to discuss about Xperia 1M2

Anyone has Xperia 1? And had P30 pro or S10 to tell me if pictures taken with sony are in level with others or still bad as before!?

Not sure if this is the right forum as nobody has posted this information yet, however new phones are announced ahead of CES
You can find this info on google right now however rumored specs are:
- 5" 1080p S-LCD screen
- 1.5ghz quad core S4 Pro
- 2gb RAM
- Jellybean 4.1.1
- 13mp camera
- Adreno 320 GPU
- 16gb storage + expandable memory slot
What do you guys think? Are you excited for the new Sony superphones or are you going to get something else?
The hardware seems very similar to what the Droid DNA is currently offering, except these will have expandable memory which is a bonus.
If the batteries on these are either removable or much higher capacity then I'm in for sure.
5" is a litte too large. Good on the high end specs & launching with JB.

The actual phones are about the same size as the ion so the extra screen size doesn't make it all that much bigger of a device. Definitely not like the note.

Jelly Bean yes but JB part 1 which is really quite old now, should be JB part 2 (4.2.1) on a new phone that isn't even out yet.

Get a different phone and it starts the 30 days over so when the Z's come out exchange it again. At least I think it still works.
As for the new Z's man they look good. Funny to that people still gripe about 4.1 to 4.2. There is not even a real difference I thought?? Other than bug fixes?? Anyway I think this will be a great device and somehow I get the feeling Sony may have a few surprises up there sleeve. :good:
I would love one if I thought Sony would actually keep the UK SIM free ones up to date

What do you guys think about the XPERIA ZL's front camera position?
Is it any good/bad? Or even it's an odd placement?

Sony Xperia M5 And C5 Ultra Leak

Looks like the most reliable leak about the upgrade to Zultra with a very very thin bezel.
By the looks of it, it may be available pretty soon as well..
The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra has a huge 6-inch 1080p screen and a virtually non-existent side frame. This is just 0.8mm thin, this compares to a 2.2mm thin side frame in the Xperia C4 and 2.5mm thin frame in the Xperia T2 Ultra. These small bezels mean that that the Xperia C5 Ultra is barely much bigger than the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus.
I dont know much about the processor but sounds disappointing - http://www.mediatek.com/en/products/mobile-communications/smartphone1/mt6752/
( Just opened a new thread since all the other news in the past were just speculations )
The XperiaC5 Ultra will probably get more attention than the M5. It's a big 6-inch phone with a 1080p LCD. The bezel on the left and right of the screen is just 0.8mm wide, which looks neat. Unfortunately, that's the most interesting thing about the design. It's otherwise a very typical Sony device. Inside you get 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and an octa-core MediaTek MT6752 chipset. It'll cost the equivalent of $350.

See ya Sony... Hello P8Max
I really hope that Sony DOESN'T label the C5 Ultra as a "successor" since it is a downgrade CPU wise while offering the same amount of RAM and storage as the existing model. As a lowend phablet, it is quite decent, though.
The Huawei P8 Max is interesting but the lack of developer support (root, ROM) hold me back. Buying a device with a modified 5.0.2 without any reported updates to 5.1.x and 5.2/M sounds like a bad idea even if it is a nice device in other aspects.
I have not tried the P8 Max but the P8 feels great from a quality standpoint. If Huawei would cooperate with XDA like Sony does, it would be a really great option.
Edit: I hope Sony will introduce a Z5 Tablet Compact with a Snapdragon 820. If they are unwilling to give us a new Ultra, then a Z5 TC would be great.
Hope Z5 Ultra had the same design
Sent from my C6833 using XDA Free mobile app
They are official now, if only C5 Ultra had better specs...
M5 looks good
I'm liking the M5, looks like it's a Z3+ without the firedragon in it. Probably what the Z3+ should have been.
I've shifted my size wants with regard to phones, went 3.7", 4.3", 4.6", 5.2", 5.5", 5.6", 5.2" and now I want a 5", just like M5
Apart from the Mediatek chip, the M5 ticks all the boxes. And given I don't game on phone the weaker GPU in the X10 isn't a factor. It seems far more efficient than the SD810.
I'd say Sony have canned the Z3+ production and tweaked slightly to make the M5.
I guess this means the Z5 will have an SD820 in it and possibly a 5.5" screen?
Sounds interesting, but disappointed with the M5 processor (mediatek's, right?)
Mediatek ain't a bad chip, I've had a MX4 and I rather liked it.
Sent from a mobile gadget.
I dont it matters as long we have a lag free device.
Dont know if sony will be proactive with bootloader unlock and may be a playstore version

Maybe the team behind the stock firmware in Sony give us a hand in this case.
They know what are they facing if they changed the processor.
Havent read if its going to have the clean AOSP with sony apps (this would be the best scenario for us)

MTK devices have not really received a proper way to unlock, but there are ways i guess.
M5 is really too expensive and not worth on my carrier, it's selling at $418 SGD on a Combo 2 Student Plan $38 per mo. I could top up $100 more and get a Z series phone so what's the point of getting this phone.
Other carriers offer at $200+ for the device on a $42 per mo plan and Z series cost about $400-$500. Guess i won't be getting M5, no open source code is even more a minus
No MTK Source = no custom ROM.
I think Sony is obligated under the GPL to release the sources?
Anyway, in a month or so the picture will be clear. I strolled across the M4 forums, and there's zero to none original development there. Hope M5 will have a better fate.

Will Asus Zenfone 5z ever receive good community support?

I am actually thinking of buying this device. Now I have noticed that even after such a long time from it's release, this device still doesn't has any official Twrp recovery and basically overall the community support for custom ROMs and Kernels is close to nothing. Now I have flashed a lot of Roms and Kernels in my current device can I expect the same from this device?!
Please express your thoughts, your inputs would help me. Final question : should I buy it if want the above things for zenfone 5z as my future device?

You are quite correct on that account, I am myself waiting for the same.
I share similar sentiments and would love some custom support; that being said, we do have a couple of developers for the device in question.
As far as i know, one of them is yet to get his hands on the device and the other one is busy with his life. It is unclear at the moment as to when can we expect things to catch some pace.
On the other front, I would recommend this device wholeheartedly against the likes of OnePlus 6 and Pocophone F1 (the famous competitors), quite simply because it IS better than those 2 in terms of raw performance and overall usability.
OnePlus does excel in terms of software support (it being close to stock android) and the added touch of water resistance however, that's all there is to it. I personally like the little compact dimensions and the super LCD screen (tbh not a fan of AMOLED screens personally) of the 5Z better. Pocophone F1 on the other hand is a total no-go as the built quality and overall device is way off from the 5Z; however, in terms of the specs provided for the price it asks for is quite impressive and would be the best choice if you are on a tight budget.
There is really no "wrong" choice here, it just boils down to what you personally prefer the most.
For me 5Z >= OP6 >> Pocophone F1. Cheers.

I agree with you even I like the Asus more than the oneplus 6 and Poco F1, however as stated before before I buy a device I first take a look at its community support and in this case, well we know....
I'll wait, maybe a few more weeks perhaps, when I finally see something then I may buy it, otherwise I will have to forcefully change my choice. :crying:
I wish the overall community to be a little more responsive here, I mean it's been a while since this device has been released. Poco F1 for instance already has proper guides and Rom. It's high time.

Asus has already released an official statement stating Pie would arrive on 5Z by the end of January 2019.
Yes asking for this ETA is justified as it's a company policy to give timely updates, asking for ETA to custom devs for their ROMs is however rude.
Pie is up, are there any test build or development started for our device?

Camera Quality very poor

Hi all,
Merry Christmas
I've had my Tab a few month now and works perfect, apart from the camera which today I found out gives horrendous grainy image quality.
Is it just mine are are others getting the same quality? I tried cleaning lens using out of the case, holding perfectly still and also auto mode pro etc, My S8+ wipes the floor camera wise.
Very disappointed.

Hi all,
Merry Christmas
I've had my Tab a few month now and works perfect, apart from the camera which today I found out gives horrendous grainy image quality.
Is it just mine are are others getting the same quality? I tried cleaning lens using out of the case, holding perfectly still and also auto mode pro etc, My S8+ wipes the floor camera wise.
Very disappointed.

Thx for the reply.
I thought it would of been on par with the S+8 if not better as it's a lot newer.
Pretty disappointed with it now especially the price I paid, expected a lot better.

Its a tablet... If you are taking photos on a tablet... Apart from say Officelens - Then you need to be shot...
Just kidding (About being shot of course)
Cameras on tablets are more just for productivity and skype calls more than anything...
Nothing else
I originally had the Galaxy tab s3 and thought that was bad enough it was so slow just to search the internet or open apps, plus the camera was terrible, I got the galaxy tab s4 off eBay for 249.99 free plus shipping brand new sealed. And thought there was going to be a huge improvement in the camera, I was wrong, the tab s4's camera quality reminds me of a cheap $29.99 ZTE smartphone. It's processer is a lot faster at least, but this tablet needs drastic updates. I complained to Samsung saying that you can buy the newest generation iPad Pro 12.9 for 699.00 refurbished on Amazon, an absolutely phenomenal tablet. And bestbuy still has this tab s4 priced at 599.99! There tablets I don't know what is going on with them but Samsung does make some killer phones! My Samsung Galaxy S10 plus is amazing. I own my own photography company and It's camera is as good as my professional Nikon camera I use for photoshoots. I hope Samsung releases more updates for this tablet soon!

LOL, I asked about security updates seeing as mine is on May security update and was told that it is "the latest and most reliable update"... Since there was a MAJOR vulnerability found in July I think the next part "Security patch updates are being sent out if there are potential security vulnerabilities observed, or reported. We take security and privacy very seriously." is sort of a piss in the wind moment from Samsung...
Their phones are updated pretty fast, their tablets are left out in the cold...
I don't think there will be any major updates to the software any time soon, especially as the Tab S6 was just released... You want an upgrade then fork out $$$ for the latest and greatest...
Try using the GCam port for Snapdragon 835's it drastically improved the quality of my photos. You can get it here.

No improvement it freezes up

I didn't have any luck with that app with the Samsung Tab S4. But the Samsung Galaxy S10 camera app seems to help, It may also improve the Tab S3's camera situation. Then again anything is an improvement with the Tab S3 lol. The link is below.

Mi 9 is too big. I like the underscreen finger print and the design of the Mi 9 SE. The only problem is the battery life that is poor..
I go from s8 to mi9 then mi9se. Mi9 is good in performance but poor battery. Mi9se battery is much much better. And i like both of then got tele/wide angle camera

You do not miss the s8? Maybe the battery and screen of the S8 are better than that of the mi9se
Me too, I'm thinking to upgrade (or downgrade, if the word fits) my s8(exynos) to mi9se. All other new phones are too big, and quite too expensive.(Even the S10e)
My main problem with s8 is battery life and lack of developers. Will it be any better if I switch to mi9se?

-2 days and 4.35hrs SOT with a single charge (still having 9% so it can be a lil bit more)
Note: charging is pretty fast tho

I never used custom kernel but I'm tempt
I came from S8 and I am very happy. No drawback since I changed to MI9Se. Battery is much better, although the capacity is almost the same as S8. I have no clue why, all Samsung phone have such a bad battery management

I get around 6 to 7 hours SOT

It's not about samsung being bad at battery management.
Newer phone = Newer battery,
Efficient cpu in comparison to s8.
There is no magic,pure logic
If gaming performance is not that important to you, trust me, you won't miss that much. Screen is basically the same, both phones are snappy but navigation is a bit different though especially the gestures (I love the One UI gestures, it's more convenient having the recent, home and back button in the same place down the screen rather than swiping the left and right on the edge of the screen). I bought the 9 SE as a secondary phone to my Galaxy S9+ because my S9+ rear camera and fingerprint module has already failed just right after the 1 year warranty period expired (just my pure luck). Having it fix here in my country cost way too much money so I just decided to get a phone with a decent camera instead until I can renew my contract from carrier next year.

Just curious, why didn't you choose pixel 3a if camera was your need? Price?

Well, Pixel phones are not officially supported or even sold in my country. I can get it in the grey market but I won't make such gamble especially if I'm spending $300 and above, warranty is important too if I will be investing that much.
Since I had my mi9se, I'll write some things that aren't noticeable without it:
1. the camera bump is really tall. 1.55mm isn't something like unnoticeable. also, its edges are sharp, so it's not a good design.
2. it's noticeably heaver than s8. my s8 without case&screen protection weighs 150g(using with really thin TPU case: 10g), and mi9se with glass screen protector but without case weighs 165g. BTW, stock TPU case is 16g, and it's not even fully covering the camera bump.
3. Fingerprint in display is cool, but not as fast as traditional ones. Though, it's not that slower compared with my unrooted S8.(using havoc ROM)
4. Proper GCam mod won't be avalable very soon, because of a bug made by xiaomi. It's snapdragon, so HDR+ process is way faster than S8, but because of that bug, pictures have a yellowish tone.
5. Custom ROM development isn't very popular for a Xiaomi device.
6. No waterproofing, and durability is unknown. If you are wondering what I'm saying, go search "jerryrigeverything" at youtube, and watch his video about xiaomi/redmi.
Now for the good part:
1. The display is very bright. Brighter than S8.
2. Having a wide angle lens is nice. Really, it's nice.
3. There definitively are developers, and we've got proper ROM(Havoc, came just in a few days ago)! yes, non-MiUI, non-GSI, proper custom ROM!
All in all, not a perfect device, but great bang for the buck.
BTW, mi cc9e is coming with a bigger battery, but I suspect it's gonna be really heavy.
In my Opinion the main reason to get a 9SE instead of a S8 is the price. So if you have to look at your money take the 9SE.
In a week the MI A3 should be purchaseable, this phone could be a choice as well. Not sure if a MI A3 Lite is gonna be released as well.
