WiFi Issue - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

S20 Unlocked from Samsung.com
Carrier: AT&T
Issue:
When on home WiFi network, the S20 does not load images in apps such as Facebook, Instagram, etc. Slows to a complete crawl.
If I test on fast.com, I receive normal home speeds on mobile of 200-400mbps
If I turn off WiFi, performance immediately returns to as expected.
Any ideas?
Router is Netgear XR500
Quality of Service is off.

Did you try a reset of network settings under settings?

Just tried that.
Fast.com reported download speed of 500mbps
I was able to download an app at an appropriate speed
It seems to be only Facebook and Instagram that are still showing the issue -- extremely slow load times.
Both work as expected on LTE.

Found this old thread.

Android System Web Viewer did take forever to update while we set the phone up. I'll see if I can roll that back.
I don't have any issues with any of my other android devices on my router - but I'll also check IPV6 settings.

No luck trying this.
Tried turning IPV6 on - in router settings. No difference. Turned it back off.
System web Viewer had an update. Updated. No difference. Disabled it. No difference.
Those two apps still wildly underperforming on wifi.

Try it on a different wifi connection outside of home? Same results?

I tried it on another phone's hot spot and could not replicate the issue.
I guess that means it's a problem with the router settings. Not sure how.

I have the same phone, carrier and use wifi at home as well. No issues, sorry you're having problems....
Maybe a full wipe?

Hope you sort it out sir, I normally don't get unlocked on ATT due to losing WiFi calling but I get a better signal now and you can just call to get visual voicemail fixed if yours doesn't work right away so I'm loving it....
I'm sure you'll love it too once you get it sorted...

Was a fix found?
My 20+ is having problems with wifi slowing to a crawl after just a few minutes.
Just bought a new router TP-Link AX11000 and it started so I thought it was the router but everything else on wifi in the house gets expected speeds my two 20+'s not so. I think it has to do with WIFI 6. If I stay within 10ft of the router everything is fine after that... I go in my bedroom 30ft away and have -63dbm signal strength and I can run a speed test and get 500mbps down try again and it will start at 500 and slow to around 45 try a 3rd time and and I barely get 4mbps 4th time and it's 0 with signal strength still at -63 on all of the test in the bedroom my upload will be 45mbps.

after a lot of testing with battery settings and things on the phone found out that my slow wifi was due to 2 settings on the router.
first in your router disable WMM, this made my s20+ use like 30mbps max in my case. now list my wifi 5ghz as +800mbps
seconds, disable ipv6 on the router. this made my phone ultra slow to everything. like play store hang on app updates, google drive take forever to load every single photo, like is taking forever to get the first reply from the server.
with that changed now the phone works at full speed on wifi. play store updates are shocking fast.
so lame that a flagship that cost nearly 1 thousand dollars have to disable things externally to work properly. no other phone or device works bad with the previous config of WMM or IPv6. I have a Linksys WRT1900ACS.
Hope they fix it with a software upgrade.

I'm having the same issue with Wifi. It'll still show as being "connected", but there won't be any data coming through. I'll have to toggle Wifi on/off to get it back. Sometimes it'll work for a couple of hours before having the data issue again, sometimes less than a minute.
I'm on stock, rooted.

Connections optimizer is off for me too - My phone shows a clear signal disconnect and reconnect (The wifi bars/3g symbol disappears completely) during this time all data connections fails - including texts. This is happening when I'm staying in one area so it couldn't be a tower reconnection issue.
I'm going to try taking my phone into a sprint store today to see what they say.

Ah, it sounds like our issues may be different then. My issue is solely with Wi-Fi (haven't noticed issues with 3G). When it happens for me the Wi-Fi icon in the status bar doesn't change, I just can't connect to anything.

Yup, same here. Seems like the 3G radio does the same thing, but not necessarily at the same time as the WIFI. At first I thought is was only the WIFI too, but 3G is affected, though not to as severe a degree. My WIFI was actually disconnecting and failing to reconnect. Turning off connection manager made no difference. I did however notice that the WIFI at my work (WEP encryption) never seemed to do this (at least I didn't notice), so I changed my home network WPA to WEP and sure enough, it stays connected. Was still failing to load occasionally, so I went even further and changed the router to a single channel rather than "Auto" and set it to "N Only" (due to having a similar problem with a laptop I used to have, with a similar solution). Problem fixed. I'm using an Amped R10000 just FYI, not sure if it matters. Very annoying, and given the number of occurances being sufficient to start a thread, I'm assuming this is a common issue and will hopefully be fixed by a firmware update. In the meantime, we should probably all start calling Sprint daily and complaining. Maybe they're not even aware of it. Probably not enough of these phones in circulation yet for them to worry about it.
Mine will do this from time to time. Stock not rooted. I will have full 3g bars and full wifi bars and my data will just hang. If I turn off wifi everything works again. Some times when I load a game that has to connect to Facebook to play against friends I have to close the app/game, remove it from memory and reload it to get the data to work. Same thing for Pandora. It will load a song to 2% and hang until I stop wifi or reboot the phone. It's not an everyday thing but some days are worse then others.

"Good to see" from the perspective I thought it was just me. Things described by others happening to me as well. Personally, I find I like the wifi/3g auto connectivity feature - when it works. Got my SGNII on Thurs last week, and connected to wifi at work on Friday no issues. This morning, the Note picked up my work wifi without a hitch.
At home, over the weekend, I was getting spotty connection, sometimes no connection to my wifi. (Disclaimer - I have my main wifi @ N/5ghz. An access point was added with wireless G via an old Netgear router-turned-AP.) After several attempts of moving the AP from one cat6 jack to another, I finally moved it to my main level. Oddly enough, so far, so good. Certainly possible the router's radio is pooping out.
What I notice happen with connection issues though seem related to the Note seeing my wireless G, trying to connect, but unable to do so until/unless I reboot my phone. After moving to the new location/jack, everything seems to work OK now (knock on wood).
Having said that... I also think the 3g radio (HW or SW?) is a bit wonky, as my old HTC Hero seemed to have more bars at home, IIRC. Whatever it is, just seems a bit lacking, IMHO.
Sprint is updating to LTE in many markets ive noticed my 3G drops says preparing networks and reestablishes the connection to 3G. I live in Fort Wayne and issue the permits for the tower co-locates and they are close to going live with LTE here so I know thats my problem. I can live with the flakiness for a few more days. I have not had issues with WIFI drops at home.

The same thing has been happening to me here on Long Island. 3g drops and reconnects. Sometimes it doesn't and a reboot fixes it. I also notice after the disconnect and reconnect it states my PRL is unknown. I have done a PRL update many times, a Profile Update, a RTN reset, and a factory reset. This happens on the stock rom and any custom ROM. It's driving me insane!
hmm maybe mobile settings?

Sigh, so it seems as if you guys are losing wifi/3g....is it affecting voice radios or LOS/dropped calls?

I haven't been on the phone when it's happened so I couldn't tell you - Nothing like the LOS on the E4GT. When the data connection does cut out it immediately reconnects. Doesn't really impair the functionality of the phone but it happens enough to be annoying. With a 300$ price tag I expect my device to be without defect.

I'm not having LOS /dropped calls just data creep with LTE/Cdma setting enabled.
Speed test show same data speed numbers as CDMA only setting but when browsing data arrows tend to pause more making for slower page upload with LTE/CDMA setting enabled.
According to Sprint store tech such performance is common with that setting.

I am on CDMA only. I should have mentioned that in my first post. This does affect phone calls too as ill be on the phone and the call will drop and the "out of service area" message comes up. It doesnt matter if I'm on my Airave or not. I tried different prls which doesn't seem to make a difference. I am starting to think there is something wrong with the phone as my girlfriends S3 doesn't do this. Maybe Samsung will release some sort of update to fix this issue.

I made the change back to CDMA only mode this morning and it has solved my WiFi issues as well. I was also struggling getting a GPS lock with LTE enabled. GPS toolkit would show 20/21 satellites found but it would never get a lock. After the reboot back into CDMA mode it locked in 5 seconds.

note 4 wifi issue

ok so i searched everywhere for this and couldn't find a solution. i have a note 4 and it will connect to my home wifi just fine. i can search the internet on it, but facebook doesn't load and neither do certain games and the app market loads very very slowly. when i had my S4, it would do everything just fine. i was at my friends house and connected to his wifi and everything loaded lightning fast. so i know it's a problem with my wifi, i just don't know what.
my modem is netgear and my router is belkin AC 1200
any ideas on what to check so i can fix it? i suck up a lot of data lol
Do a speed test on your wifi with another device to determine if it is your phone or your wifi. How does your phone perform on 4g? Does it do the same thing?
the wifi is fine. i can browse the internet, watch netflix, etc. When i'm on my data, everything loads like it normally would.

Try hard resetting you router and before customizing it(changing SSID, encryption, etc...), test it with your phone to see if its any better.
it didn't seem to help. it's dual band and i tried on both. it wouldn't even load the google play until i switched bands.

Yes.
I just got my VZW Note 4 yesterday and noticed almost the exact same problem. There is a little bit of info out there talking about things like power saving mode and stuff, but I noticed that my speedtest.net throughput was excellent. My next thoughts were DNS resolution or an IPv6 problem. Turns out my wireless router had a default setting with IPv6 routing enabled, but my ISP does not serve IPv6. You may notice the same kind of initial lag on Ubuntu installs (especially with certain VPS providers) where every single command you issue seems to take ages to start, but then completes quickly. I know how to deal with Ubuntu to force a preference for IPv4, but a locked down Samsung phone is a different matter entirely. Thankfully, I was able to just turn it off in the router.
For my specific router (Belkin AC1200 DB), the user interface has an IPv6 settings page, but the options they present to end users isn't intuitive. I changed my 'connection type' on this page to "Local Pass-Through Only", and my problem immediately went away. Have a look and see if you find anything similar.
Thanks, and good luck!

Hey Guys
Newbie here! I just wanted to say that this fixed my problem as well. I don't usually post as you can tell by my info but this was worth coming out of the dark to reply to.
Now to clarify, I too have a Belkin router AC1200 so it may be specific to those. Anyway thanks for the help and enjoy the fish!

I am having this same issue bUT Comcast here uses ipv6 as well,I have a Belkin n1 router what do I do?
---------- Post added at 07:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:50 PM ----------
never mind i disable ipv6 in my comcast modem and it seen to do the trick, any idea why this is happening?
I've been having the exact same issue on my Note 4. for the past week or so. Our router/modem is a DPC3941T from Comcast, and I can't seem to find how to turn off IPv6. This setting was under Connections > Local IP Network. If anyone could help instruct me further, you would be a great help. I'm pushing my data cap for the month as it is because of this >.<
I'm having the same problem too. The funny thing is that I went to the Verizon store to see if they could trouble shoot it and the phone did not work on their wifi network either! I realize now how to access my IPv6 settings in my router and that does seem to fix the issue. Unfortunately I cant imagine very many businesses with wifi networks will allow me to reconfigure their router everytime I want to use wifi.....
I started having this issue when I upgraded to lollipop. My Netgear C6300 AC1750 doesn't seem to have an option to disable ipv6 though. Any suggestions?

Try the DNSet application - I had painful Comcast WiFi speeds, or lack thereof, and running this application before turning on WiFi solves the issue. Not sure if it's just me, but you should know that MMS doesn't work when the DNSet application is running.
What is stopping us from hardcoding DNS entries in the WLAN config now that we have root? Is this possible?

I looked at it, but the app needs to create a VPN to work, which is a whole other can of worms.
Do you have Comcast? I've learned that Comcast rolled out IPv6 out of nowhere, and many of its routers have issues with some phones (my gf's iphone included). I rooted my phone, disabled IPv6, and now I'm back to consistent 50-80Mbps download speeds on my phone.
Before, I would open up the Speedtest.net app, it would take a full minute or more to locate a server, and then the needle for the download speeds would constantly bounce between 0 and 50, sometimes with my phone prompting me that I lost my internet connection, asking if I would like to switch to data. Worth a shot! If you can't root, DNSet does this for you through the VPN, or you might be able to find a way to shut it off on your router.
I don't seem to have any issues with my phone picking up IPv6 over data or a few other routers, though, so I think this issue is more due to some bad firmware on certain modems.
Yes i do have comcast, their is many other cellphones in my house galaxy s5 ,s6, lg g3, iphone 6, none of them have problems but mine, how do i disable IPv6 once i have root

From the G3 after the 5.0 update, the fix was to disable IPv6 as well. This isn't related to IPv6 though, as it only seems to effect the G3/G4. Also, Google "What is my IP" when on mobile data and you will likely have an IPv6 address from Verizon.
I don't know that it isn't related to ipv6; Samsung phones have similar issues and my girlfriend's iphone does as well. I don't think the problem is the protocol itself, but how certain modems (seemingly Comcast ones) incorrectly implement them in their firmware

WiFi strength, range, and throughput

Rate this thread to express how you think the Google Pixel's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?

I'm with you there. Mine hasn't even arrived. But I don't dump in my bedroom with my 5X.... Why would I dump in there cause I have a pixel? Lol!
No issues with WiFi range that I've found.
By far the worst WiFi experience I've had on any smartphone to date. Be it at home, work, friend's house, or any other place with WiFi, my Google Pixel phone's internet connection keeps going dead even though the phone says it's still connected. This problem manifests itself in downloads that never finish and get stuck indefinitely until I have to manually turn off WiFi, let the download happen over LTE. This happens with video downloads (In web browser, on Youtube app, Facebook app, etc.), with app downloads/updates from the Play Store, and other downloads.
It's a frustrating frequently recurring problem that happens on a daily basis, and I haven't found a solution to it yet.

Isn't LTE turned off automatically when connected to WIFI? How do you switch it off?
What I see on my Pixel WIFI is that it always needs a second or two to start receiving data. Where my Laptop immediately starts downloading data when clicking on a e.g. link, my Pixel always needs a short time.

It should be, but what I actually noticed is once WiFi gets weak signal it switches to LTE for better connection, that's my experience with so now I just keep LTE turned off while using WiFi and the other way around when using LTE
No problems here. You guys might have a problem on your hands. Defective units?
I have excellent throughout and signal strength on my Pixel with my 802.11 AC router. Absolutely no problems in all areas in and around outside near my house.
Is there a way to speed up wifi polling? Say I turn off wifi and then turn it back on. The time it takes to find and reconnect to my wifi network takes a while. Is there a way to speed that up?
Wifi range is pretty bad compared my 2 year old OP2
My wife's pixel started ignoring or 5ghz wifi and then the bluetooth crapped out and then the 2.4ghz wifi started dropping at about 10 ft from the router... I just did a RMA with Verizon and got a Google version as a referb... other than that signals are on par with any other phone I have besides motorola, they have the best connection in my opinion
wifi sucks on this phone compared to my v20.

Do you guys talking about the connectivity issues think it's due to the build materials? I notice WiFi on my 5x seems to hold signal better , though I can get ac on my pixel(wifi speed is greatly different but only because of ability to connect to a. Signal on 5x seems to hold longer and farther.)

Nexus 5X randomly lose connectivity

Hello there,
I am encountering a problem with my beloved N5X...
Since a few weeks it randomly loses connectivity (both cellular and Wi-Fi)
And after a few seconds (sometimes minutes) it catches the network back.
For example:
I wake up the phone for checking messages, and i see WhatsApp saying "searching for messages", no warning icons for network.
Then i try to load a Chrome page, it does not load..
After a few seconds all is getting back to normal and everything loads. (the web page, new messages notifications comes on, etc)
I tried so far:
- Reboot (after a reboot it works normally for a few hours, then problem begins again)
- Resetting network parameters (does nothing)
- Complete factory reset (had 2 weeks problem free then the problem begins again)
- Flashing custom ROM (from Google factory to last Lineage OS 15.1)
For informations:
- No VPN
- No gaming, the phone never heats up
- Good network coverage (both cellular and Wi-Fi)
- No network related apps
- The phone is 3 years old, never felt on the ground
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot for reply, and have a nice day!
I'm having a similar problem since Oreo update, but only on WiFi. On 4G network is working flawlessly but I think is due to carrier network settings on cellular towers.
Every search I made on the web to address the issue finished with a lot of posts read but no decent solution whatsoever, but the other day a reply on reddit made me think and I found a setting on my router WiFi AP section called "Unscheduled APSD (Automatic Power Save Delivery)" and since I disabled it my phone seems working better. I don't know if it's just random luck or it was really the cause of the issue but you can try.
Hope it helps.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
I searched everything on the phone that could be wrong and i also ended up that router might be the cause.
I did not found the setting you mention (i'm on Synology router) but i tried to disable the 5 GHz frequency band and use only the 2.4 GHz one.
Since then the phone works perfectly! Although the Wi-Fi speed is a bit slower..
I hope this can help you too!

I was on 2.4Ghz only since a few months but had the issue anyway before disabling uAPSD.
If your bandwidth is reduced is probably because your network is on a "busy" channel, try scanning all the wireless networks around your home (i use wifi analyzer on my phone) and see which are the "busy" channels and set yours on a free one. Bandwidth on 2.4 and 5 ghz should be the same, the pro of the first is a better (wider) coverage of the signal, mostly through walls and the pro of the second is less interference with other wireless technologies and environment at expenses of the coverage.

Well, after a few days i noticed the problem still persist even on 2.4GHz, but less than before..
Unfortunately Synology router does not have APSD option in the Wi-Fi settings.
I tried to put Protected Management Frames (PMF) on "enable - optional", that setting was disabled before.
Wait and see.
Thanks again!
