So "Easy Computer" what are your findings please? Did you reach 1.5 days with light use? (web and youtube/netflix or even some heavier useage like maps/pubg)?

Battery Life

I have a widget that shows me how much I have left and when I unplug it after a full charge, I have 6 hours left.
Ridiculous.
This is on auto brightness, wifi, twitter/facebook/mail updating every 15 minutes.
whenever I take my phone out the house I have to bring a charger...
bloody ridiculous.
couple of points.
1) When you leave the house, don't leave your wi-fi on! I find wi-fi to be the biggest battery drain out of everything ( expect gps)
2) I use a brightness widget, therefore when your in doors you can have it on low, then when your out doors have it on high, i assume this will use less battery then auto brightness
3) why do you need facebook updating every 15 minutes?? Do you honestly look at your phone that much when your out? change the settings so it updates every 15 when your on wi-fi at home, and every hour for when your not.
Wifi isn't an issue. I leave it on 24/7 as well as bluetooth and still can get 36 hours out od a charge. Its hooked up to wifi 20hrs a day as well.

1. Battery and other constantly updating widgets are one of the causes for battery drain. Get rid of it.
2. Battery widgets try to get an estimate of your typical use. They are mostly wrong in my opinion
3. I can get 6 hours of battery, yes, but only if glue the phone to my hand and use it constantly for that time
4. there are tons of battery threads around, use those suggestions (mid brightness, no live wallpaper, turn airplane on when you know coverage will be unavailable for long, etc)
5. Battery gets better in 10 days.
6. Most people can get at the very least one day of heavy usage. If you really need to hammer the battery get a spare one, they are cheap. Oh, and realize you are lucky because you CAN have a spare battery !
7. If you are using an automatic task killer, get rid of it.

1) go to the market and search brightness level, or brightness widget, there are a number of these. The best i find is brightness level by curvefish, it lets you pick a percentage and keep at that .
2) Cant remeber actually where the settings are but there is a way. But i prefer to use another widget, autosync on/off, this allows you to update every 15 when on wi-fi, but when you want to save battery, turn auto sync off and it doesnt sync ,
I suggest you use switchpro widget. its like the power control widget but with more options to turn on/off things.
I typically charged my Nokia N97 every other day or so, even though I used it frequently, and needless to say the HTC Desire doesn't have the same stamina. I was quite frustrated by it, and I started thinking of ways to save power. I came up with 19 tips, and I have actually noticed quite a difference by following them

Nice post thanks.ill give this a go. But I have a question to do with the positioning using data or gps. I believe your stating that you should turn data off for this purpose, and let the gps do it? however my phone was set to opposite. when I changed as you were suggesting and I clicked allow gps, I had a message come up saying to turn off to conserve battery? But your saying to turn on? And have data off? Also how do you get into htc facebook settings,i cant even find it!

yep i also use this widget
also use a free juice defender or paid ultimate juice that keeps turning on and off your 3g every now and then depending on how you schedule it, my phone with snowstorm weather widget updating every 80 minutes + 30s of 3g every 5 minutes to update mail etc and average usage lasts about 36 hours which is good enough for me
I leave my WI-FI on at home and suffer hardly any drain.
At work like today leave my Mobile network on down to 47% with just twitter usage!
Pathetic is the mobile signals drain.

Ok, ive had another read of this and am now just even more confused! Are you saying to have gps turned off via settings and location aswell as data, or just having gps on? Are you saying that having gps selected via settings for the purpose of locating services uses les batty than via using data? Either way, it appeatss that the power control widget controls the gps the same as via settings. Right now ive deselected gps and the data location.

I believe this is what I'm saying:
"To let your device learn your location via wireless network triangulation requires less battery than by using the GPS for this purpose. However, using both methods simultaneously is probably not a good idea from a battery point of view. The GPS can handle this task by itself, although it will get a fix on your location a little bit slower. Also, wireless network positioning will be used to collect anonymous Google location data, which will drain the battery further. You can change this option from Settings > Location > Use wireless networks. "
In other words, to only use wireless network positioning will supposedly use less battery than by only using the GPS, but using both methods will naturally use the most juice
For me...
- Turn GPS On when I needed.
- Turn WiFi On when I needed
- Turn Bluetooth On when I needed
- Use 2G Network for standard internet, we use 3G if we want more speed such us watch video

I can get get good days heavy usage (except games) from mine, I haven't tried the 2G thing yet.
Apparently it is the connectivity thing that kills the battery, but turning off 3G, doesn't that take all the fun out of it???
If you just use it as a phone then I reckon you can get a couple of days out of it, or so I've read...

Tasker - Profiles

Hey everyone
Does anyone here use tasker or have any recommended profiles to help save battery life?

Try Juice Defender with 3g control enabled.
I have mine set to enable every 30mins with good results..
With LOTS of syncing enabled, i get roughly 1% an hour decrease whilst on standby!! Unplugged at 1am on 89% when i went to bed, at 9am when i got up it was at 81%...
Hope this helps!
Dickie
Check WIKI on Tasker site, data profiles created by "brandall" from XDA
Tasker data profiles are better than Juice Defender
JuiceDefender has some annoying bugs in it at the moment (some like issues it has with lockscreen/display timeout) have been around for 4months+ and they still haven't sorted them out) so I've switched to Green Power which seems to do the job very well. Simple and no fuss.
Hi. Anyone here good at creating profiles?
I would like some help. If i want a profile that:
IF screen has been locked for 1 minute, i want WiFi to shut down.
And when i unlock the phone again, i want it to turn on.
But - i don't just want a "toggle wifi by hitting powerbutton"-function,
I only want this to apply if i had wifi on in the first place.
The reason i want this profile is:
If i forget to charge the phone at night, and have wifi going, i have 20% less battery when i wake up. Or if im at a friends house, connected to a wifi... well, same here. If it just lays in my pocket connected to X, i want it to shut down when screen is off. Saves alot of juice.

why dont you use tasker for that,
you can do almost anything with that app.
Creating profiles in tasker isn't a huge difficult task, its easy, Just use trial n error to see if it works.

Why don't just use the stock android checkbox in settings that's there for that? o_ô
Go to settings/network and wifi/wifi settings/hit the menu button and tap advanced parameters/wifi sleep politic/check "when screen goes off".
It does exactly what you described...

The reason i don't use androids built-in thing for that is because it drains battery for some strange reason.

Well mine is working fine, no draining at all (wifi on 24h24 with this option checked and my phone drain only 1% every 5 or 6h if the screen is off). The thing is that it shut off the wifi only if no app needs it, so my bet is that those who have a battery drain just have some apps that don't let the phone going in deep sleep.

Hi, if you try LLAMA app instead I could talk you through it (as your not getting an answer you want).
As far as I can tell, LLAMA can do everything that tasker and locale can do but its free. It's also very good on your battery and can use cell towers instead of gps for location.

Not sure if I'm in the right place, new to smartphones. Got myself a Galaxy S2 and rooted it. Main point,
I'm using Tasker and I'm trying to have it set so that it's in Airplane Mode when I have an Alarm set so I get no calls/texts during my slumber.
So far, best thing I've done is the phone goes to Airplane Mode between 00:00 and 0600 everyday as well as when light levels are between 0 and 28 - not sure if the light levels are like, set too low.
So far I love Tasker but very little support online and Tasker Wiki doesn't really help. Trying my best with the trial and error method.
Thanks

Good shout on Green Power. I've had some issues with Juice Defender Ultimate lately and Green Power seems to do more or less the same without the issues.

Battery Saver

Hello all
I'd like to hear from you what battery saver do you use. searching into the market I've found green power, juice defender and so on, but which is (for you of course) the best one?
I'm looking for something that allow me to turn off data connetion when the screen is off and turn it on after a specific amount of time for gmail and other programs notifications.
I'd like to hear your opnion.
thx in advance
regards
As far as I know, Juice Defender would be a good choice.
SetCPU is very nice:

Neither.
I tried juice defender and it seemed to use more battery on me. I just use setcpu and turn of only on mobile data in phone settings. data switches of when phone a sleep.
you should install tasker as this can do pretty much anything you can think of.
i run a task that runs each time i unlock my phone and it sets the screen brightness to 15%. this will save alot of battery as the screen is the biggest killer.
nice 8) thanks, I will try!!
cheers

What about when you are in direct sunlight?
Doing anything manually is not an acceptable solution for me. Only thing that works is editing brightness levels within framework-res.apk which would allow brightness to go under 30% (which is the lowest if backlight on auto).
I have another Tasker task via a dock icon that sets the screen brightness to maximum when I need it. When I receive a call the brightness also goes to maximum automatically.
Thanks brivs

[Q] What's best? Wifi Off when screen is off or Wifi on all of the time?

To start off with; i get good battery life; right now I'm at 1 day 3 hours and I have 39% left.
I was wondering however, does setting the Wifi to go off when the screen is off help significantly on the battery? And if so...is there some other negative issue that I'm not aware of if I set it this way?
I'm pretty sure any sort of data connection will use more of your battery than WiFi will. So if you're always around a strong WiFi connection you probably should leave it on at all times.

Oh that is funny.
I just do everything everyone else does:
1.) Screen off when not in use
2.) Screen brightness down as much as possible.
3.) Dark theme.
4.) Tasker profiles to turn off wifi when not near my house or work.
5.) Tasker profile to turn off GPS when not actively using certain apps.
6.) Tasker profile to turn off BT when not connected.
I also am probably a light user...the only thing that I do beyond normal phone use is to watch Netflix a slight bit a day and stream Spotify a bit.
I also don't play games except Words with friends.
No FB no locations, no nothing like that.
Wifi off and data off would be most helping when screen off

STAMINA Mode not working properly

Hi,
As I remember my STAMINA mode work good in .234 fw.. my Mobile Data connection was disable and resumed when screen on.
But after .244 update.. Stamina mode does not work as before, Apps get stopped when screen is offed, but Mobile data connection is still there.
I have no apps in white-list..
Im bit worried, cause i have enabled mobile data 24x7 in LTE mode, so disabling it when screen is off, will help me on battery..
But i done know whether its the way how Stamina mode works..
If someone can explain me.
Thank you

stamina mode is somethings to enable phone enter into deep sleep mode. But after u turn off the screen and lock, if there got any apps consuming the data in background, so phone cant enter deep sleep.
most probably is Auto-Sync, social messaging apps (Viber, Line, Whatsapp, WeChat, Tango and etc). these will enable the phone always keep awake and using the data.. Stamina mode will only works after screen off for a certain time, will enter into deep sleep. If any apps wake it up, then wont work anymore.
So if u want stamina mode works better, turned off Auto-Sync, Mobile data (if u have a lot of social messaging apps).
Hmm..

Hope this can be your guide for battery usage life. I didn't active stamina mode due to I need receive email, msg at anytime. If phone lost still can track back.

I have never had much luck with stamina mode, or disabling background processes or whatever and, believe me, I have spent what feels like a total time of 5 weeks of my life on this, as for all of us, trying to get our super smartphones with awesome screens to last more than the waking hours of one day....
Here is a screen shot of my XZL from this morning. (82% battery remaining, 27 hrs of use on battery, screen on time 9% = approx 1.5 hrs in screen diag window I have Auto Sync enabled, and collect emails on regular basis.)
I am using DS Battery saver (pro version but there is a free one to try) and thro custom settings can allow checking for emails at whatever interval I like so, for example, i set DS to wake up (in background, of course) every 20 mins for 2 mins to allow whitelisted email app to check for mails or whatever intervals and apps I want....
SMS and MMS are always instant as are incoming calls (obviously again)
Have this on all my work phones, XZL, GS4, GS3, HTC one etc, and all are now easily able to do two days with what I would call normal usage (3-4 hours screen on per day) emails and calls and the rest all the time
@chuan Hong - why leave GPS on all the time, are you looking at maps all the time? Device locks so fast on GPS why not just turn it on when you need to know where you are or where the phone is? Certain apps will switch it on when signalled to do so remotely...

Thanx al try the app
Srsly man, stop using battery saver apps, that is Not at all required. In fact that app might be interfering with ur stamina mode...
Also, as another person above said that stamina mode requires deep sleep, this aint true(actually, that would defeat the whole purpose of stamina mode). As soon as u turn the screen off, the stamina mode kicks in.
Also, how do u know that stamina mode isnt working? Do u recieve whatsapp notifications after u turn the screen off??
U might wanna check ur stamina mode settings.

Sorry, but I am not stupid enough to run both at the same time! What the battery saver app offers over and above stamina mode is deep sleep so you have missed the point there. For me that is why it saves battery for my usage...
My remarks are intended to offer another possible direction for those who have not succeeded in achieving what they are looking for using stamina mode. For me that is the purpose of this place that we love, xda! Negative comments slagging off others people's posts when they are trying to be helpful are what is rapidly becoming the norm here, and that is very sad...
My remarks are also based on many hours of analysis and research and are, for my usage, bourne out by empirical results!

On a more conciliatory note, sorry if I ranted, you are correct when it comes to the Wi-Fi only tabs and battery usage is worse with an app than with stamina mode. Maybe related to continual switching/seeking of phones looking at 3g, h+, lte in the background which ds obviously removes....

That's why I said so. I never meant to counter comment u in a negative way. Im sorry if u feel so. I just wanted to convey that battery saver apps r not good for our droids.

Certain apps will switch it on when signalled to do so remotely...

oh i turned on gps for all the time because of security.. i've been lost my phone before so cant track it back. now i purchase https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myboyfriendisageek.gotya&hl=en apps and installed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nezdroid.lockscreenprotector
smart lockscreen to prevent people shut off our phone in lockscreen there. Useful. If im lost my phone, i can track the location and take the front photo. I can remote control my phone. So i have to turned on my data, GPS all the time.. dont want lost my expensive phone like that.
recommend u to install these 2 apps too. i know myxperia can track our phone too.. but GotYa! got much better features. MOST IMPORTANT, cant let people turned off our phone 1st. Once off, then can flash rom or anything. GONE.so smart lockscreen protector is important and installed gotya! to catch/track our phone

stamina mode is somethings to enable phone enter into deep sleep mode.

I think you are wrong. Stamina mode should always work the way that it disables mobile data when the screen is off, regardless of how many apps you have running in ackground. that is the whole point of stamina mode. Mine is also not working. I turned it on this morning at 5 am, and at 6 am the battery dropped 3% and i got a notification that i should turn on stamina mode to save battery. The screen was off for that one hour and the phone wasn't in use
