Compatible game controllers for Fire TV stick 4K? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I was looking into what game controllers are compatible with the Fire TV stick 4K and I found a lot of confusing and conflicting information. I have a Dualshock 4 (v1) controller that sadly does not work. I also have a Dualshock 3 controller that is unlikely to work either. What controllers exist, if any, that are compatible with the Fire TV stick 4K?

You can buy an alternative one at the eBay or AliExpress.
or, you want to root to fix:

What do you mean by alternative? Is there a game controller you can recommend?
Also, regarding rooting/unlocking: I am not sure that will help me because my particular dualshock 4 controller does not even connect. My DS4 controller seems to be a first generation model and based on what I am reading online, I think first generation models do not work with the Fire TV stick 4K model and so I don't think rooting will change that.

Xbox One S controller by Bluetooth works fine for me on N64 emulation.

@jbb3k just to confirm, your setup is Fire TV 4K UHD Stick plus Xbox One S controller?
I'm also in the situation where I got a PS Dual Shock 4 controller after reading it works, only to find out that while it pairs, I can't really use it. Happy to try the Xbox One S but would prefer to know upfront.

Game Pad for the Galaxy Nexus

With all the awesome games available for this device, has anyone figured out how to get an operational gamepad setup with it?
Essentially, I don't even want bluetooth here - a USB mounted device would work just fine.
Here's a thread about this. Maybe it will help somehow. Tell me if u found any solution because i'm looking to buy a gamepad too. Just waiting for someone to get it right.

Xbox controllers are radio wireless and not Bluetooth like the PS3 controllers. Unless it's changed recently?

Nope, haven't changed it since 2005.
i have a wired xbox 360 controller that i use from things like COD on my PC.
Haven't tried it on my phone because im lacking a usb host cable thing.
mind you the first 2 COD games.
Also bought and just received the Phonejoy for Bluetooth play.
update just ordered a usb host cable to try the xbox should come in 3-5 days.
Im using a phonejoy and its awesome. Yea PS3 work, but on my SG S2, my rom didnt allow that so I had to buy a bluetooth controller. But now I still have it for my Nexus So I wont bother to change my PS3 controller IP everytime I want to play on my nexus and PS3.
is ROOT required?? i want to use a original ps3 controller to play games in my galaxy nexus but i totally don't want to root.

Hi guys anyone have any luck pairing the 7" hdx with any bluetooth controllers to use for games and emulators? i have searched online and all that i can see is that the fire tv controller can be used, but since it uses bluetooth is it possible for any bluetooth controllers ie. ps3/nyko gamepad to sync and be used to play games? thanks.

I'm running the HDX Nexus 1.4 ROM right now and have tried using the Sixaxis Controller app on the Play Store to get the PS3 controller working and have failed so far. I have been meaning to post here to see if anyone else has gotten it to work. Not sure if it is a kernel level issue or if it is with the ROM. I also have an iControlpad I have used in the past with iPhones and other computers that is bluetooth and should work just fine, but haven't tested it just yet.

I have tried to pair ps3 controllers under stock rooted before with Sixaxis and couldn't get it working, could be something in the bluetooth stack preventing it from pairing but never got as far as investigating why...

Thanks for the reply guys. Yea i am also wondering why the ps3 controllers will not sync. I have not tried other pads since they might not pair and will be just a waste of money. Hopefully someone had some success with some Nyko gamepads/IPEGA pads since those are also bluetooth controllers that has some favorable reviews online.
Hi I've also tried the PS3 Controller app but I can tell you this controller from Gamestop works. Google "Tablet Wireless Game Controller V2" it selling for $15 and works well enough I'm sure there are better ones though. The Moga Pocket works (Tried it on stock) but, it didn't fit my needs. I've used it under stock and Nexus 1.3 I hope that helps I forgot to add mine is the Wifi 8.9 HDX
Yeah its currently impossible to get the PS3 controller working becuase of the kernel but other controllers like my MOGA Pro Power work perfectly fine. I have using it to play several different emulators. My only issue is that ePSXe doesn't have any audio playback on the Kindle Fire HDX
I've tried a micro to mini USB cable for a PS3 controller as well, but, as you can assume, that didn't work either.

I may need to pick one of these up. I want it for emulators and Limelight.
Has anyone been able to use a controller with Limelight? It's the app that allows you to stream games like the NVidia Shield. Same tech, reverse engineered.
I tried Nyko with my HDX8.9 and it works with joystick center in google play. But the gamepad itself is not really high quality.

Finally got around to picking up this controller. It's working great. I've tested it with emulators as well as with the Limelight app streaming from my PC. I am using the Nexus ROM.
Now that we have the signature bypass exploit, is there any way to enable support for this?

I can second this. I bought the gamestop branded controller, however mine is a version 1. It's (or was, not sure anymore) on sale for $9.99, I originally bought it to use with my phone over a year ago. I recently found out last week that it works with my HDX 7 3rd gen. Mine is stock, non rooted, and on the latest update. I've played ROMS on it with mugen n64 plus ROM emulator app. Works great after you assign the buttons you want to use within the app.
One of the best $10 I spent in my life.
The Nyko & the OEM game controller for the Fire TV also works on the KFHD, KFHDX, FHDX, Fire TV Stick & of course the Fire TV.

how to connect ps3 controller in z5 compact

I think they dropped support for DS3 in the new Xperias. I guess you can still try with an OTG cable
If you have a dualshock: In Settings > Device connection, scroll down to Game Controller and select Dualshock series.
If you have a sixaxis, you need Sixaxis controller from the playstore and the setup is trickier.
Note: Dualshock 3 might still require the sixaxis method. It seems to be mainly for Dualshock 4
Well that is really disappointing. I enjoyed using my ds3 on my z3c but now I can't find a way to use it on my phone that doesn't require rooting my new phone
Sony's way of making you buy a new DS4 controller. *sigh*

Well they have to because if they keep doing this, people will keep using DS3 controllers. They have to sell DS4 controllers. You may know that everybody wants money, money and money... (so sad)

PS4 Dualshock 4 controller for HTC 10?

Is there anyway for me to use a dualshock 4 or xbox one controller on my htc 10 either with OTG or Bluetooth? I have root, twrp, and a viper rom. If not do you guys have any controllers you would recommend?

Hey, you could try sixaxxis app. Pretty sure it's now been updated. It requires a PC for setup. Otherwise there's a few controllers listed in the Q&A thread somewhere, just search.

My impatientness got the best of me lol, I just ordered the 500gb nvidia shield pro android tv. Now I can play paper toss in 4k lmao. I'm pretty sure the nvidia controllers will work with my phone too though. Thanks for the response

Best emulators for FireTV3. Any help?

I just received my Fire TV from Prime Day. I have a FireStick and all I did on that was add Kodi. Since the Fire TV is slightly faster, I plan to run the SNES and NES emulators with my PS4 controller. I’ve seen videos on YouTube where people run it through Kodi and others with a stand-alone app. Anyone run them? What’s the best method?

Are you actually able to run your PS4 controller without massive input lag? I was trying to use a Nintendo Pro Switch Controller on a gen3 the other day and it won't even pair properly.

I returned a Nintendo pro switch controller due to its lack of compatibility and bought an Xbox wireless controller (latest gen).
The Xbox wireless controller works great with Moonlight/Steam via the FIre TV 4K. I've been using Moonlight more, as it seems to have better controller compatibility. Typically have to leave Steam, so it doesn't conflict with Moonlight's controller emulation.
