Preferred network type - Nubia Red Magic 5G / 5S Questions & Answers

This is about the secret menu accessible through *#*#info#*#*
I'm on t-mo USA and always used to set it to gsm/cdma/lte. By default it looks like it's set to 'unknown' and the gsm/cdma/lte isn't an option. What should I set it to?

[Q] Seems like my 3G isn't working

I bought this phone brand new, everything was wrapped in its cellophane. I asked the seller if this was in fact a 3G phone to use in Europe because I needed the UMTS 2100. The box itself writes " HSPA/WCDMA 900/2100 " Greece runs on UMTS 2100....When I try to use the internet search engine it says "There is no Network connection right now". I check my Mobile Network settings and Data Roaming is checkmarked. Network mode has GSM/WCDMA set to auto. Network Operators states Greece Cosmote.
What haven't I checked to make the connection?
I do believe this is Euro/Asia version because it has like 7 different English languages for Asia (Singapore/Malaysia/Vietnam etc...) When I changed the Bluetooth name, the default was HTC Vision (which is the UK name of this product)
Check in settings/wireless&networks/mobile networks/ and make sure that "Use only 2g networks" is not checked.
I don't have that option.
In the Mobile Network Settings screen I have
Data Roaming (Checked)
Data Roaming Sound (checked)
Access Point Names
Network Mode (GSM / WCDMA (Auto)
Network Operators (GR Cosmote)
Enable Always-on Mobile Data (checked)

Have you tried to select WCDMA(3g) mode only to ses if that works or helps, I notice its on auto.

Are you saying that you only have a 2G/EDGE connection or that you have no data connection at all? From the thread title, I thought the former, but from what you are describing, it sounds like the latter. If it is the case that you have no data connection whatsoever, check to make sure your APN settings are correct for your network provider.
Where do I go to check the APN setting....I found an APN screen but it is completely blank....How can I add parameters to that screen?

No APN = No Data, I would try googling the Greece Cosmote APN data settings first.
UPDATE: I tried to google the APN settings for you but "ITS ALL GREEK TO ME".....lol J/K, but not.

Okay....I am getting the hang of the Android OS now...sorry...I am a migrant from Win 6.5...
I got the info from a website for the service provider....it seems it wants an IP address to be inputted where it says DNS...the problem is I don't see a place that says DNS....does that go under the "Server" area?
Try here maybe:

EDIT: woops think this is what you just said no DNS right, What about "proxy" do you have that? Try it in the proxy field.

Got it so far....for the proxy there are two listed....."Proxy" and "MMS Proxy" which one does the IP address go under?

Are you asking if you should put DNS under the proxy or mms proxy fields? No, these are different things. Have you tried inputting all of the other settings except for DNS and seeing if it worked? Most carriers will work without you setting the DNS (it's pulled in by your phone dynamically).
In most cases, you need to put nothing more than the APN (and username/password if required). For MMS to work, you'll also need to find your carrier's MMSC, MMS proxy, and MMS port.
it seems like I finally got it to work. I had to switch a few parameters around...Had to call the phone company. I love this phone. I wanted the physical keyboard but the on screen landscape keyboard is proving to be just as effective.
Thanks to everyone who helped

Speed Differences & Non-Sticking of "Preferred Network Type" *#*#4636#*#* and b prop

Speed Differences & Non-Sticking of "Preferred Network Type" *#*#4636#*#* and b prop
When speed testing on the "preferred network type" of LTE/CDMA/UMTS auto (PRL) I get an average speed of 9Mbps. When I change it to "TD-SCDMA only" I get an average of 21Mbps. I would like to keep it as TD-SCDMA but when exiting it always reverts back to LTE/CDMA/UMTS auto (PRL). In the settings on the phone under mobile networks it only allows me to select LTE, 3G, and 2G. When setting it in the build prop under ro.telephony, I have it set to 13 which is "TD-SCDMA only", it does not stick either. LTE/CDMA/UMTS auto (PRL) is the one it always defaults to no matter what. My network Carrier is ATT, the phone is unlocked and rooted. Can anyone offer any solutions?

Force 4G only.

Is there any way we can force cellular network to be 4G LTE only? I want to stop it from automatically switching to H+.
I'm on stock nougat, rooted.
I think you can change it in the hidden service menu. BUT be VERY CAREFUL not to change other things in there.
First make sure your preferred network type is LTE auto, not 3g or 2g only.
Next, go to phone / dialer app.
Enter: *#*#4636#*#*
It should automatically direct to Testing menu, with Phone information, Usage statistics, and Wi-Fi information choice.
Select "Phone information".
Warning: There's many things to see here, but you can easily ruin your radio band in here. Just follow this guide and do not even touch other things.
Go to "set preferred network type"
I'm not sure what it would show for your phone, but for mine it shows "LTE/UMTS auto (PRL)".
Select "LTE only". It should immediately reset your network to 4G.
If it still switches to 3G, then test other options in the "set preferred network type" option.
After finish, exit the hidden menu and clear it from recent apps menu.
Warning: DO NOT CHANGE OTHER VALUES IN THERE IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. IT COULD RUIN YOUR RADIO BAND IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL.
Thanks. It worked.

Force / Lock LTE band

I am on a stock rom, rooted with Magisk.
Is there a way to force and lock myself on an LTE band?
I use to be able to do so with the network signal guru app, but I guess sprint or the phone took and update that no longer works.
Will running a custom rom enable this option?
I tried *#*#3282#*#* on the Dialer, entered 000000 as the MSL, and it just takes me back to the Dialer. Cannot get into this diag mode.
/anyone on a custom rom can try entering *#*#3282#*#* and let me. Know if you can access the LTE menu?
++ I am on Sprint service if it matters
Anyone?
You need to go into "Radio Info" and set the "Set Preferred Network Type" to "LTE only". This is the only way I know how to (on 9/Pie). warning: but this does not save/survive a reboot...
I personally use a specific app called "Network Switch" to gain access to the "secret menu", but I can't tell who the developer is and it doesn't seem to show up on my Play Store -- in other words, it may have been a very random site where I obtained the app. There is also a manual way to get into the menu by using custom shortcut apps to access "com.android.settings/com.android.settings.RadioInfo" (I personally use QuickShortcutMaker)...
Good luck and hope this helps...

Thank you, but instead of forcing to LTE only, I'm looking to manually select force the LTE band (disable band 26 and 41, only allowing band 25LTE)
Cna your app do that?

Optimal settings for data network

I'd like to know what's the best settings for data network on EU territory, to set via "hidden menu".
Currently I've selected "LTE/CDMA/UMTS auto (PRL)".
