Dead Pixels??? - OnePlus 8 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

I received my replacement device today only to boot it up and find what looks like dead pixels around the selfie camera. Take a look and let me know what you think. The saga of the oneplus 8 pro and crap displays continues....

That most certainly looks like dead pixels to me. I've seen a couple other people with the same issue around the selfie camera and one who had a black rectangle on the bottom right of the display. Turning on DC dimming fixed the black rectangle issue but ultimately it looks faulty and will have to go back a second time
I've been lucky to get one with a decent display but my camera suffers crippling lens flaring if there's a light source to the side of the phone. I think these phones were rushed out the door a tad too quick!

I agree seems like quality control in their manufacturing process is seriously lacking. It's so disappointing because the 7 pro was such a great device. 3 strikes and your out for me so I hope they get it right the 3rd time

Middle looks like a pixel stuck on one color and the cutout is something I’ve seen happen before like a group of damaged pixels around the hole.

Same Issue With My Friend Phone
He just recently bought a brand new 8 and received the same exact issue in the phone hope he gets the replacement asap
Btw did u get the new replacement without any issue?

I had to replace my OnePlus 8 through Assurant and got a device exactly like that, just told them I received a broken unit and they sent me a good one after I sent them the one with dead pixels back.

Luckily I don't have dead pixels on my device, it's about 4 months old now, but I do have some rather over the top wierdness with image retention. like, on this site in dark mode with the grey background I can usually see some wierd yellowish lines in the middle of the screen and whe i've been using for example TWRP for a while for some backup stuff or whatever and reboot on a white background I can see the TWRP text faintly.
It does go away over time but it's very wierd and I'm afraid I'm going to get really bad burn in or permanent image retention over time.
My old note 9 with amoled never had this issue at all. Not even once in 2 years...

transparent line on screen

Hi,
Ive seen a few other posts like this and was curious , at the moment i cant use auto brightness becouse if i do this transparant line becomes quite easy to see.
However if i set brightness to 60% i dont see this line. However i do still see it on grey backgrounds and if i have the browser open and pull taskbar down its still quite obvious.
Im not to sure wether i should bother swapping this phone as last month i saw around 5 / 6 sIIs with the same issues and even blobs. So im thinking with 1 line im not doing 2 bad.
If people think its worth swapping i might just do that as ive spoken to shop and they are fine with it. However i dont want to get caught swapping phones if this is part of how amoled works or traits of useing amoled as i could end up with one thats worse.
Any opinions views well appreciated i can post a pic if needed but im guessing most people that post here will know what im talking about
One thing id like to add is that this phone is simply awesome , ive owned sII and sensation xe and ended up returning them but i really do like this phone ics is well nice
thought i would update this thread with pictures view appreciated thanks.
Sorry, but this is how aMOLED works. At lower brightness levels, it cannot keep every pixel in check. This is especially true when they've crammed 1280*720 pixels on a 4.65'' screen. If it is not a hassle for you to swap (i.e. you bought it at a brick and mortar store) you could swap it out. You might get one slightly better, or slightly worse. I had a couple of lines on mine, but I didn't mind it. The price really through me out though...
It's just what you have to deal with to get the best blacks...
fixed mine
Hi,
I had the same issue and ran an app from the market called Dead Pixel Test... I left it on Yellow colour for a few seconds then alternated to other colours... had to do this for like an hour before the white line was completely gone! Now been a week and the line didn't come back so I'm happy that a simple software like this was able to fix it!
Try it out...

How is a dead pixel tester app supposed to fix your phone?
Break in the pixels possibly? Amoled pixels burn at different rates.

You think after watching a couple videos you would get the same effect...well maybe colorful videos

I also have the transparent line
I had the transparent line on the screen too. It was clearly visible on light & grey backgrounds such as when opening a new tab in the browser and loading the Android Market.
This coupled with a yellow tint to the screen on white images, the average battery life (for me at least) and the volume bug which took a while to get fixed were enough reasons for me to return the phone and continue using my S2.
I definitely will buy the Galaxy Nexus again though. I liked the hardware and the screen clarity was great and stock ICS is superb. It was just a shame about the warm colours and transparent lines. Hopefully these get fixed in the near future via new production batches or a software fix. By then maybe an extended battery will be out too.
just to update this thread swapped the phone and my new one has no transparant line , however my new one does have some crazy banding which can be viewed here :-

mad how different 2 screens can be again will be retuning , this phone is awesome but seems to be let down my samsungs build quality :/
Just to clarify a point that keeps being made. This is how SOME AMOLED screens are, not all.
I have a perfect screen as do many others, if it bothers you, exhchange it for a new one as it is possible to get one without defect.
Just kind of annoying how comments are made that make a blanket statement about all screens, when it really isn't. Sure it might be a typical problem with AMOLED, but it's not how they work and certinaly not a problem with all to have lines down and across them.

[Q] Faint black line on screen issues

I just got my GN2 today and I noticed pretty fast that there's a constant faint black line that runs across the width of the screen and has one dead pixel on it.
I know I probably cannot fix this without sending the phone away to get repaid. I emailed in to get this seen to. But has anyone had this problem before, and possibly found a solution/cause for it? This is quite annoying, considering it's such an expensive phone.
I don't have any dead pixels and my screen is excelent, but I have this exact same issue that I had with the Note 1. While I'm on my bed about to sleep (what I mean is.. you can only see this when on a dark room, almost pitch black) and I have a grey background I can see black lines on the screen, on my Note 1 they looked like stains, like little drops and on my Note 2 they are lines , 2 on the left corners (bottom and top). They never bottered me because you can't see them under normal use and they don't even seem to affect the screen in any way, but when I found my Note 2 had it too, I don't know, felt a bit dissapointed since it is such a great -and expensive- piece of work. I don't care about it but I though I was the only one. Clearly I'm not. But like I said it doesn't affect my screen in any possible way and you can't see it 99& of the time so I don't care =)

Yeah I seen a lot of people complaining about that on the original Note. The line doesn't cause any screen issues, it just really irritates me because now that I've seen it, I can't unsee it. That, and a dead pixel is just poor show! Once I return this I'm going to buy the UK LTE version, if possible. The UK LTE situation is terrible right now, though.

Backlight bleed anyone??

I had the same problem on my old N7 and went through 2 of those as well...
I've got some pretty bad backlight bleeding at the top/center of the screen. Literally looks like a dark grey to black gradient across the status bar. Other than that the screen looks pretty good. I say pretty good because I still think Asus could take a tip from Samsung in the display dept. But better color reproduction and contrast than the old N7 and love the 19x12 res. I'm gonna really enjoy reading on this thing once i get a good one. I just can't handle backlight bleed; it's a pet peeve of mine. It's going back to Best Buy tomorrow and I hope they have one more in stock for me. To anyone buying one, I would open it in store and check it out before leaving. My Best Buy is 30min and a load of traffic away.
Anyone else having this problem?
No backlight bleeding like my old nexus had. I haven't noticed any problems with mine , they really upped the quality with that $30 increase from last year

I hope for your sake it's a problem limited to the first batch. Looks like it's hit-and-miss like the old nexus because the new one I just got home with looks pretty good.
Good luck to everyone else (check it at the store!)...

i think google's letting asus too much on the free rein. there's been better quality control on the previous nexuses, apart from asus. do try to chck out how sammy made the n10. that's what we can compare with n7 (both) and cry and curse asus.
seeing all that, I'm waiting for the next batch to come out, since I don't have enough reaources to replace a device once bougjt, so I just won't be taking any chances.

My original N7 has backlight bleeding along the left side, most noticeable on the bottom. Wife's has similar backlight bleed. Seems like some of this has nothing to do with batches. I got my original N7 in December, long past the first batches.
Just seems like they have some quality issues. Like the three org N7s that I went through before hitting on one that didn't have screen lift. I did finally get one, but it took some effort and returns on my part.
As for my newly purchased second generation N7, there are a few problems with it. Aside from very minor light bleed that is only visible in a black room, light bleed is not one of the issues.
I do hope that the second generation problems are worked out in subsequent batches, because the screen itself is a beautiful thing.
there is backlight bleed top center

I have a 16gb second gen nexus 7 gotten from staples..and i see noticable back light bleed towards the top center just like the user here is reporting....im hoping in a few weeks they correct this...im waiting for the 32 gig version anyway...this will go back to staples..the screen though is vastly improved except for that bleed i've noticed....and depending on how you hold display you see weird blue colors and like a sunset red....occassionally

Agree. I have my 32GB that's going back for different reasons. I'll just wait it out and watch everyone here, to see when these issues are minimized. Screen's amazing. Way better than anything else I've ever seen.

as I said, google's probably giving asus free rein too much, and asus is putting all that axe on our necks. They should be considerate about quality, because quality only is what matters. see all the good specs going down the drainage.
Mine only has it at the top like you, but its only noticeable during really dark scenes in a poorly lit area. Most IPS display will show some sort of light bleed. Speaking from experience, if its not one thing, then its another. Everything else is excellent. No dead pixels, popping sounds from the speaker, etc, etc. I swapped my N4 3 times before I got a unit that I thought was pretty good. And even then, its still not perfect since it too has some light bleed. If it really bothers you, then prepare yourself for what could possibly be a goose chase. :good:

Irregular Display Lighting (with Pictures)

I have a visible light strip at the top of the display... what should I do? I say to myself I don't care but it annoys me because I keep noticing it.
Here pictures, please check them out:

do you have it too? should I send it back or do all lg g4 have this?

That's light bleed - light seeping from the backlight into the edges of the display. Happens when the display is compressed/bent during installation into the phone. Nothing you can do about it but get the phone exchanged if it bothers you that much. However, if you exchange it, it's the luck of the draw - you might get a better one or a much worse one.
Unfortunately, all LCD displays are prone to this, as manufacturers would have to reject something like 50% of them otherwise - I had to go through SIX brand-new 27" Dell monitors before I found two that I could live with - and they're still far from perfect.
I had to exchange my iPad Mini twice to get a good display, and my Nexus 9 three times. It's totally random. Got lucky with my G4 that has a perfect screen (though I had to exchange it, too, as the first one had dust stuck between the front glass and the display panel).
Manufacturers just have really low "acceptable quality" standards to maximize profits/units sold, as many people will never notice those issues.

I see thanks, I had some light bleed (I knew what it is didn't remember the english word LOL) on my N4 too but nowhere near this and it didn't seem like a solid strip more random...

Stuck / Dead Pixels

I have had over my phone over a month now , sharp panel vertical lines poor battery. However i have noticed today i now have 3 stuck pixels close to center of screen. I haven't had a phone with stuck pixels in over 6 years and i was wondering if anyone else has any ?
I've been lucky enough that my last 3 phones didn't have dead pixels. It's actually shocking to me. Generally, anything with a screen I have to return at least once.

well i used to be the same always purchasing screens with dead pixels and returning , talk about bad luck . This is the first screen in years ive seen dead / stuck pixels on and not to impressed , specially couple with vertical lines (Sharp panel).
My screen is all good here, but I have heard of many people exchanging this phone for various screen issues. First I've heard of dead pixels though!
These lines, what do they look like exactly? Just curious as I see that mentioned a lot..
What vertical lines are you referring to that bothers you? Can you take a picture of them?
BTW, I have none of those issues.

Looks like the touch sensor matrix. My iPad air 2, NVIDIA shield, 2015 Moto G, and 10 have these in horizontal and vertical if you look close enough. If they're the same lines, then this is normal and is needed to detect touch.

I see. I can kinda see them on mine. But I had to turn the screen off and get under a bright light. Never would have known. Are they more noticeable on yours??
for me they were very noticeable when i first powered the device on , viewing images or web pages with white background they would appear grey. They settled after a few days but still noticeable from time to time. Maybe i have just got used to them
Realized myself it was matrix and part of the tech , did consider rma at first but didn't want to risk the pink tint
Have a white pixel
So today morning I saw a dead white bright spot
May be dead pixel or even a broken pixel due to pressure
To be frank I didn't had it when I bought this month ago
I would like to say that I was playing gangster Vegas for around 3-4 hours yesterday night and when I woke up in the morning I saw it.
Have tried jscreen etc etc nothing worked. Applied pressure also that even didn't work
Any suggestions?
