168 hours - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

hello there.
a week ago, I tried to unlock bootloader lock. As you know, it said that I must wait for 168 hours to retry. after 168 hours I tried again and dang ! now I must wait 168 hours again ! I tried every solution people offered but non of them worked. I bought this damn phone 3 months ago. It does not feels like it's mine. it's like I rent a phone from xiaomi to use. What should I do ?

[Q] January 6, 1980 ...

Hi,
I have been suffering from this from about 3-4 months ago..
after few restarts the phone suddenly think that the date is january 6, 1980..
in about 2-4 AM..
It started at first when I went for a vacation to a different country and I thought maybe this change has messed him up.. but months have passed and probably alot of ROMs and kernals and radios have been changed but still, I run into this problem every few days when after a restart the phone thinks today is 32 years ago..
It only happens when I put the clock on "automatic"..
after it happens a "Hot-Restart" is enough to fix it.. but no less..
Is this familiar to anyone? anyone ever heard about it? if so please tell me what shell I do so?
If not, I can live with this problem..
Thank you,
Yarden.
Where did you buy the phone?
I don't know.. I bought it from a dude in my country.. how can I check it? And how difference does it make?
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Doesn't really make that much difference but most cases of this I've heard happened to sprint and att users.
January 6th 1980 marked the use of the 1st GPS. Phones use it to automatically acquire date and time. That date is probably set by default. Uncheck automatic in date and time and it should be ok.

I met the 1980 issue too. But it only happenes when I change battery. Rebooting with the same battery would not trigger the problem on my DHD.
well for me its not every time I change battery its kinda randomly per ~5 times..
Isn't that bugging you every day to restart again, so you don't got solution?
You can try app clocksync.
Like hte previous post, there are apps that can fix this problem, check the market

Unlocking bootloader with an "old" mi account

My current mi account reseted so I need to wait 312 hours yet. My mother has an old mi account (made it 3 or 4 years ago) but she never tried to unlock her phone.
Can I use it to unlock my phone after unbind my current account or it has a 360 hours waiting time too?

What counter? You said it yourself, she never even tried to unlock, so there never was a counter to begin with. These threads come up every day, just read the forum, there is no way around it, xiaomi fixed it. If you dont believe, then just go and try, you will see for yourself.
if your old mi account is unlock before sure can unlock on the spot with other phone, i have try before is work
Not working anymore. I have three accounts that unlocked miui devices before and they can't unlock new devices now. It says to wait for 15 days.

I tried to bind my account with a new RN5 PRO device with an old account which has already bound and waited the 360 hours and unlocked successfully with my Redmi 5 plus, but When I tried to unlock with the new device that got this morning (Redmi note 5 PRO), just asked me to wait 360 hours. Whatever If you have an old account with an unlocked device before or a new one, Xiaomi is going to ask you to wait for 360 hours.
My 2 latest phones unlocked right away without wait time. My account status on en.miui.com is Senior Member, don't know if it has anything to do with it.

Random shutdown?

Hello, I am new here and i'v been on XDA before but only to lurk years ago.. But now since I am into cell phones a lot more I recently got the Pixel XL 3 and its been great till about a week ago. While working id have my phone in my back pocket and it would randomly shutdown and not turn on unless I booted back into Android Recovery and then it would reboot and work fine till it happens again ( 6 times a day ). I did do a factory reset and it was working great for about a day or so then today it happened again. I am stumped and I cant find any info on it on reddit or google forums. Phone has never been rooted its only 2 months old, it is in a case ( googles) and has a zagg tempered glass on it, never dropped or mishandled.

I'd RMA that thing. I could see it happening maybe once or twice, but sheesh! Even if pocket pressure were responsible, it shouldn't do that 6 times a day!

I know right!? I am currently on the phone with google at this moment to see if they know anything or can resolve my issue. Very weird issue I just hope I do not need to be without my phone for very long or if they will provide me with a replacement? To be honest iv never had to deal with an issue like this for a phone..

it's usually 168 hours. but once you get this waiting time do not remove your mi account from your device or factory reset otherwise you'll get waiting time again. make sure to use your phone during waiting time.

Does the 168 Hours need a SIM during the whole period?

Subject says it all. I'm happy to wait the 168 hours , but I don't want to have to leave a SIM in as I plan still to use my old phone during the 168 period. I have removed the SIM and am now waiting. What I want to avoid is the 168 hours resetting but I only find out in 1 week!
Can anyone definitely say (i.e. from first hand experience) whether the SIM is needed during this period?
TIA
m
Nope, I waited the whole period without the sim on the phone.
Be sure that is on tho, I've been seeing comments that the timer resets if the phone is off during all that period.
Thanks @Onicss - thanks exactly what I wanted to hear. Yes, I am leaving it on the whole time, so I should be good to go.
