Nexux 7 2013 wont charge and wont turn on - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

my nexus 7 2013 wont turn on its just blinks the while light 4-5 times on pressing the power button.
i am using wireless charging which works well as the micro charging port failed a year ago.
I did try to turn it on by keeping pressing the power button form 30 seconds and it turned on yesterday, the battery was 97% full ,and the tablet was almost out of space and i tried to delete some apps/ videos to free up some space.
After the battery died i put it back on the wireless charger overnight, but now when i try to turn it on it only shows 5 white lights and does not turn on ,
do you guys with such experience please tell me how to fix this.
many thanks.

The blinks typically indicate a faulty battery. Sometimes it can continuously blink which can be fixed by re-plugging the battery. If the battery measures >3.5V under load then the blinks indicate eMMC chip fault - more info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7-2013/nexus-7-2013-qa/fix-nexus-7-2013-bricked-stuck-t3310608
As you can see there is no simple answer but there is 90% chance that it is the battery fault - just measure it with a voltmeter.
Incidentally, re your broken USB port, try to squeeze it, and it may start working again.

[Q] Turned it off...Won't turn back on.

I did a soft shutdown and now it won't turn on. No response to Vol UP + Vol DOWN + Power. Nothing but black. Its connected to power and was at 80% when I shutdown. USB debugging was enabled. Any hints? Thanks, -RP

Ugh, I had to hold power button for 30 seconds. Its really excessive. Delete this please. Thanks.
funny thing is the old nexus 7 had the same issues
I received mine today and it wouldn't turn on at all. All I got was a flashing white light after holding the button to turn it on so knowing that the same thing was common on the previous generation N7 I tried the 30 second trick with no success so I figured I'd share my experience.
Turns out my battery was at 0% out of the box. It was so dead I had to do the following to actually get it to start charging unfortunately:
1. Open it, I followed the guide @ ifixit: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+7+2nd+Generation+Teardown/16072/1
Note: The plastic bezel surrounding the screen is incredibly soft plastic I just learned. Even using plastic pry tools I ended up leaving marks the plastic, despite being extremely careful.
2. Disconnect the battery (follow the guide above)
3. Press the power button and hold down for 10 seconds, but don't release yet.
4. Using the supplied AC adapter, apply the power and continue holding for another 10 seconds.
5. Reconnect the battery while the AC adapter is plugged inThis should get you to the point where you at least see the battery charge icon on the LCD. I waited another 30 minutes before moving on and powering the device on. I intend to leave it charging to 100% before I do anything else with it.
I remember on some older devices I've had when they got into 0% state, they didn't want to take a charge from a high power charger and I needed to switch to 500ma USB 1.1/2.0 slot on PC and let it sit a while before it would trickle in enough charge to get some life.
After that it would take charge from any source again.

lol - this happened to me too. Except double whammy - as soon as it was charged enough to turn on, it wanted to do the system update and wasn't charged enough to do that. Back to the USB it went!
Well I got my replacement for the one with the dead pixels, it started up fine and I even configured just to check it had no dead pixels. I had to step away for a few minutes and it was off, completely dead. Tried ever variation of tricks and I get nothing, no white LED, no charge indicator, nothing.
I think I'm sending both the replacement and the original back for a refund, this is just unacceptable at this point.
I bought one but returned it after 3-4 days. Mine was fully powered and I would go through the shutdown procedure. The device would power off. Then I tried to turn it back on. It would not work. I held it down for several variations of time: pushed it quickly, help the power button in for 10 sec, 15 sec, 30 sec... I found that when I connected the device to power through the usb the screen would show 100% charge right away. I would then hit the power button and it would turn on fine. I immediately unplugged the device and everything was fine. i powered it down again and repeated this process 2-3 more times before I said the heck with it. Anyone else know of this issue or did I just have some crazy unit?

[Q] Galaxy Nexus i9250 problem.

Hey everyone. I have huge problem with my Galaxy Nexus i9250 for few days now.
Let me start from beggining.
First it was showing charging symbol even if it ain't plugged in. Then it stopped after I cleaned charging port.
Few weeks back there were great floods in my region (Bosnia) and we were in lack of electricity so I started to charge it on a car charger and after it's completely charged (2h) as soon as I start to use it the battery goes off really fast, example, if I use it for let's say calls or even on "stand by" after 30mins the battery goes for like 40%. That's when problems started to begin. If it was turned off becuase of lack of battery I had to turn it on by pressing "Down volume + power" for first 2 times. Then I had to remove battery for few seconds then put it back not completely but I had to press the battery against those 4 pins which conduct electricity to a cell phone and press those two buttons for like 30 seconds to turn it on. Few days ago, I had same problem, but this time it wasnt empty on battery, it was in my pocked with almost 50% of battery when I took it and I saw it was off. Tried again that same proccedure, it turned on, showed recovery menu and it turned off. Ever since I can't turn it on, it charges, but it doesn't show charging indicator on my screen. When I put my battery in other phone it shows it's fully charged. I can't turn it on, my PC won't reconize it, let's say it's dead. I don't know what's happening, so I'm asking here if anyone knows what to do. Thanks to all.
sounds like a battery + charger issue

You must verify the voltage output of the car adapter you were using with the phone , remember that the fact it has a micro USB does not mean its designed to the specs of your phone, sounds like the battery went berserk after it was charged with that car adapter ... you should not tinker more with the phone and get a new battery and the original charger for it , if you can or are able to ...

Thank you Frank. I already tought nobody will reply to this. So you think if I buy new battery and charger cell phone will start to work?
Car charger was combined, USB cable from Nokia and car adapter is for let's say every cell phone. I have original Samsung Nexus wall charger I got with that cell phone and it charges the battery it just wont turn on the phone. Either PC doesnt want to reconize it, tried with Device Manager to see if is there anything but no. Thank you again for your reply.
Still no luck! Does anyone have something to suggest?
Hmmmm .... still would go for battery malfunction !

you say it charges the battery ? if you are able to see the white icon of the battery charging when the phone is off and you connect the charger , then it's definitely the phone battery .... replace it and lets hope it works out

No, I'm unable to see battery charging indicator. But when I lick the battery you can feel the electricity. Yea, it's stupid method but it does the job. And when I put it in another phone it says it's almost full 99% to be exact. So battery... Gonna buy a new one.

Alright, i have been sailing in the same boat, my i9250 has not been charging for quite some time.
Now for all most few months the phone is charging without any problem. I suspect the Google Search application could be the reason. I uninstalled all the Google Search application update and kept it to the one come by default. Since then i am able to charge my phone without any problem. The Google search version that i have is V 2.2.9.542574.
Try it out. All the best!!

[Q] Red light of dead (maybe hard brick?)

Hello, I was using my phone yesterday while charging, the battery was ~45% and it was working fine at all, then it suddenly turned off and isn't turning on again, only blinking the red led if the power on button is pressed while charging in the wall charger and glowing the red led without blinking if connected to a computer. If the button is not pressed, the phone just stays off. I don't know what to do, in other situations the phone's battery gone to 0% and blinked the red light without the button pressed and came back after some minutes charging, but this time I tried to charge it some times and nothing happened. Somebody knows what to do?
Thanks
Hello there! I had the same issue, I was playing a game and my phone had like 7%, suddenly it turned off.. And wouldn't turn on, and showed the red led.
What I did is to let it charge for 30 minutes or more, maybe 1 hour. And then it'll turn on, if not. Maybe you'll have to remove the battery and reinsert it back in. But for now just let it charge for a long time. It should turn on.

Yeah, it happened before with me, but it didn't came back this time. Took it to LG, they said it was a hardware problem and that it would took ~4 days to give me an answer, thanks for the help anyway.

+1 to this suggestion. I went through that before, and it definitely helps in many cases. But it sounds like the phone is in for repair with LG now, so it's a moot point...

Won't turn on or charge

Hello, phone was working fine up until today, tried charging and vibrated as if it were charging but battery symbol didn't show charging symbol.
Finally died, now plugging charger in shows battery symbol and charging symbol above it, goes to Xperia screen and then shows 0% with empty battery.
Any ideas as to what to do? Tried different chargers and plugs etc but still the same.

Thank you, managed to get 40% overnight charged with the light green when charging with phone off. Doing backup over WiFi since cables doesn't work. Will then attempt factory reset.

LG G4 Just killed itself. Plugged in and no charging screen or charge LED

I put my phone down on the table and left. I came back and pressed the power button and it did nothing. I thought that was weird and held the power button and it didn’t turn back on. I then plugged in the device and still nothing happened. No charging LED or charge screen or anything. It is just black. I took the battery out and held the button for 30 seconds and put it back and plugged it in and nothing. I got out my USB volt meter and noticed that it is drawing power from the charger but the screen isn’t lighting up and the charge LED isn’t lighting up for whatever reason. I put in another battery I had laying around and nothing changed. Is this phone just dead or is there still hope in recovering it. I have no idea why it killed itself for no reason. Any ideas to try that can fix this?

Connect it to your pc and watch the device manager while doing so. You will likely notice a new device QHSUSB_BULK beneath other devices . If that's the case (99% chance it is) then you got catched by the ilapo ( see my signature for bootloop fix thread for workarounds which MAY work)
