Dual Apps, no location access after last MIUI Update? - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

I received the last MIUI update for my phone, MIUI Global 11.0.4.0(QGGMIXM), and after that, location access stoped working on dual apps. In my case, I'm using it to play Pokémon Go with two accounts at the same time, now the second one(the one from Dual Apps) is not detecting my location anymore, I have tried deleting all the Dual Apps data and config with no luck, I even tried a factory reset and it didn't work.
I have a friend who is suffering the same issue with the same phone model and MIUI version, so, I think this might be a general bug.
Any ideas?
Any help would be appreciated.

P.D. I read that in the next update the problem will be fixed.

Hi,
The MIUI 12 have messed up lot of things one being :
Unable to find the storage for dual apps as you have mentioned above. So just don't worry, we are here to help you out. Until Xiaomi releases the fix for this you can try the following approach step by step:
Download the Xiaomi File Manager (4.2.0.9), you can find it from APKmirror. Here this is the link: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/xiaom...mi-file-manager-4-2-0-9-android-apk-download/
Now just install this apk. If prompted for unable to install from trusted source you may need to enable it via the Developer option by turning this ON -> "Allow Installation from unknown sources"
Now just open the newly installed file manager application and on top left corner, switch the storage to "Storage for Dual Apps"
Bingo!!! Its done now you can access the files of all your dual apps whether its Whatsapp/Facebook/Messenger etc.
Make sure you copy all the files that you need from this storage to an external hard drive/laptop/PC. And once you have taken all the files then you can uninstall this application and re-install the latest version using Google Play Store. You won't have to take a hassle now.
Also if you want to keep using the older version (4.2.0.9) of file manager you can use it without any fear. Please guys if this works for you as it worked for me do support my channel on youtube: https://bit.ly/techNawabs.
Please subscribe as we assure you coolest/exciting/interesting technology related content for gadgets/softwares/tips & tricks/hacks etc.
A video is going to be out soon for this MIUI 12 dual storage bug.....Hoping to see you there on my my channel

Camera failed to launch

When I try to launch the camera app or any app that requires the camera I get the following message "camera failed to launch, please reboot your device"
Model Number ASIS_Z00AD
I'm running stock ww_2.20.40.59...
I have restarted the device.
I have un installed and reinstalled the camera app (from the beta down to stock, then back to beta).
I have wiped the cache in the app.
Deleted the data in the app.
Installed google camera.
Still nothing working.
Before I do a fill cache wipe or a system wipe, is there anything else I should try?

I did a full factory reset and still no camera. The crappy thing is that I received this phone as a warranty replacement just 2 weeks ago. Now they want to charge me another $25 bucks to get this defective replacement replaced. This may be the end of my relationship with Asus.

I also have the same problem. When I open the camera app of my zenfone 2 it says "Camera failed to launch. Please reboot your device and try again." I already have reset my device to factory settings but the problem is still not fixed. I will be following this thread hoping to get some solutions.
Thank you
I'll keep you updated. Did it fail after the last update? As I just got this phone, I never had the chance to operate it on an older firmware.

This only happened 3 days ago. Yes, I am running the latest firmware. I never got this problem when I have the previous firmware.
I received a software update just now. My zenfone 2 is now running WW_2.20.40.63 but the camera problem is still there. I still cannot open my camera.

I am having this EXACT SAme issue and I tried everything here to get it fixed. The camera just stopped working after an update and i'm byond annoyed. I'm an engineer and did everything I knew (clear cache, safe mode, uninstall and reinstall camera, tried other camera apps, etc) and it just does not load camara.
Worst of ALL, ASUS support is jsut plain old bad. No reply to emails, phones, etc. I mean, how can htey release such a bug filled product / firmware and not provide any support for it.

I am suspecting that this is caused by a the new firmware. I will go to Asus service center and ask them if they can downgrade my firmware back to WW_2.19.40.22. I will let you know if this can fix the issue.
I did not expect that the support would be this bad. I also have emailed them with this problem but I have not received any update until now.
BUMP. I also have this same issue just randomly started yesterday, did anyone find a solution for this?
I bought my zenfone 2 to the service center this morning. They flashed the very first firmware and check if it will solve the camera problem. But unfortunately, it does not solved it. It still says the same thing, camera is being used by another application... camera failed to launch.
So I leave my phone there are will wait for 1 month to get repaired because they will be ordering the parts needed. It's hard to say but this maybe a hardware problem. But I don't understand why many users experienced this. Does this mean that the hardware of some zenfones is not very good? I begun to feel disappointed about this.
Well I contacted asus and they are sending me a new phone and I will send them mine once in arrives. 224$ hold and 25$ for processing.
Facing same issue after updating to. 97
I got my phone back from the service center. They found a loose connection to the main camera. That causes also the front camera not to work. I updated my zenfone2 to the latest firmware and it is smoother that before.
I think this is not hardware issue because everyone faced the issue after updating the firmware. I dont know what is the solution for this but I am just guessing that the issue will be fixed in next update. Or I will have to check after downgrading it again.

I brought my phone to the service center couple of weeks ago and told them to downgrade my system. After downgrading to the very first version of the firmware, the problem still occur. That is why I decided to leave my phone for repair.
If your phone is still under service warranty, I think it is good if you visit Asus service center and have them look into your phone.
How many days did it took???

Lineage 14.1 hotspot error if mobile data on (logcat)

Good evening.
This is my first time posting here so hello from southeast Queensland, Australia
I recently purchased an AGM A8 4GB ram/64GB storage model. It came with a practically stock Android 7.0 with gapps preloaded. It was great to use but Firefox and Adblock browser crashed within seconds of launching, regardless of what I tried (factory reset, arm, arm64, versions between 35 and 57.0.1).
I decided to try Lineage 14.1 which is the other ROM available for this phone and Firefox finally works!
The only issue I'm having is I can't activate my hotspot unless mobile data is disabled (a string saying 'error' appears underneath the label when I switch it on).
I have searched and searched for a fix without success. I have recorded logcat to provide if that will help? Not certain what is the preferred way to share it here on XDA.
Here is how the error string appears (not my screenshot):

My phone is rooted, in case this makes implementing a fix easier.
Thank you very much for your time!
Seems device specific
Thank you for the fast reply. I don't believe this is device specific as I've seen many other phones with the same issue (Zuk Z2 Plus -snapdragon 820, One Plus 3 which I believe is the 820 again, Nexus 5 which is the snapdragon 800).
My device is using the snapdragon 410. It seems like this is a common bug with android 7.1.1 and/or lineage 14.1 and may have been introduced in android 7.1 but I'm not certain.
I did see one brief thread on XDA regarding a fix for a Nexus 6 (snapdragon 805) running 7.1.1. The recommendation was to flash ex kernel, while another person said to flash blackbird kernel. I believe kernels are device and/or SOC specific?
Thanks for your time.
Bump. Here's my logcat when I try to turn on my hotspot while mobile data is enabled. I've had to use pastebin as it's too big to post here:
pastebin dot com/pHXQKvi6
Thank You.
Have I asked for help in the wrong subforum? Perhaps somebody can recommend another forum altogether if I'm in the wrong place? Thank you

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately that thread is closed and the OP's account is disabled. There's no relevant information to my problem in that thread but I have sent a PM to ffboy2009 in hope that he (as the AGM A8 Lineage 14 dev) can assist me with this issue. The issue isn't specific to this model, however. I will keep this thread updated.

I guess I can confirm that this is not device specific, because I have a Nexus 5 (on latest lineageOS) and can confirm I do not have this problem. Then again that also confirms it's not a straight out lineageOS bug.
Have you tried the agonizing "Network settings reset" in the settings? (it is in "Wireless and settings" > "More").
Fetching far, I'm also wondering if this could be triggered by the network provider. (could the network provider in some way, maybe via APN settings, indicate to android that this is not allowed).
If the above network settings request doesn't do it yet, you could also manually go into your APN settings and try resetting those. (the 3-dot menu offers to reset them to defaults).
Also/alternatively, providers offer a way to have their APN settings sent to your phone. I guess worth a try as well. (because the APN settings lineageOS has as defaults are not necessarily the same the provider distributes)
That's all i can think of for now. good luck
Good Morning, lePoMo.
Thanks for the reply. My LineageOS version is 14.1-20170401-UNOFFICIAL-HS8939QC and the build number is lineage_HS8939QC-userdebug 7.1.1 NOF27B91eef740bf test-keys so I don't believe this is the 'final' release which others may be running. It's the latest I could find for my phone though.
I haven't heard of my provider disallowing tethering and tethering worked with the stock Android 7 ROM that the phone came with. I only changed from that ROM because Firefox and Adblock browser crashed within seconds of opening (irrespective of versions tried). The stock ROM was basically vanilla Android 7 but I'm not sure of the exact version/build.
I have tried my SIM card (provider: Telstra) in slot 2 on my phone just in case it was related to that. It's the same problem with both SIM slots. I will try another provider SIM this evening (Optus) and report back to this thread. I'll also reset my network settings and confirm the APN details. Is it just the 'Data' APN which will be relevant here and not MMS etc?
Thank You.
I have confirmed my APN settings are correct and performed a Network Settings reset. I am still experiencing the same problem. Hopefully I can test using another provider SIM card this evening.
Problem fixed. Culprit was a Magisk module.
For me the problem was solved by:-
1)Uninstall Magisk manager
2)Reboot
I have a link which explains the same.
Forum is not allowing me to post it.
I have same error and I am not sure I have Magisk.
How can I fix this error?
AGM A8 stock ROM
Guys, how do I install stock ROM back to my AGM A8. Currenty I have only TWRP available on my AGM A8, /system, /data, /cache partitions are all wiped out. I tried to install stock rom, placed a file T88Q_14.bin to phone's SDcard but when I press vol +, vol - and power button I get this message - Authority identification not found!

DEBLOAT Redmi Note 7 MIUI 10.3.5.0 No Root/Bootloader Locked

Hi people, I has been using This phone for almost 20 days and didn't find a tutorial of how to remove most bloatware for Lavender safely and without rooting, here it goes:
1. We need to download two tools, the first one is Xiaomi ADB Fastboot Tools from Github.com/Saki-EU/XiaomiADBFastbootTools (Link at bottom). And the second one are the correct drivers for our phone provided in the same Github page.
2. Instructions: (Taken from Saki-EU Github)
Connecting a device in ADB mode
-Enable developer options in Android.
MIUI: Go to Settings > About device and tap ‘MIUI version’ seven times to enable developer options.
Android One: Go to Settings > System > About device and tap ‘Build number’ seven times to enable developer options.
-Enable USB debugging in Android.
MIUI: Go to Settings > Additional settings > Developer options and enable USB debugging as well as USB debugging (Security settings).
Android One: Go to Settings > System > Developer options and enable USB debugging.
-Connect your device to the computer and launch the application. The device is going to ask for authorisation, which you'll have to allow.
-Wait for the application to detect your device. The device info should appear in the top left section.
3. In the aplication you will see the safe to remove system apps, I delete most of them and everything works fine, no bootloop or soft bootloop, I highly recomend to deactivate al MI apps and account, MI device find and MI cloud services.
NOTE:
After downloading the usb drivers provided by Saki-EU, connect your phone, execute the tool, a window will appear, if your phone shows below you are ok to intall the driver.
4. My Debloat:
-No Debloated

Tool Updated. Now is in 6.8.1 compatible with MIUI 11.0.4
https://github.com/Saki-EU/XiaomiADBFastbootTools/releases
Done this 3 days after getting the phone. Much nicer without all the MI apps and some of the Google apps.
I hope you are talking about this tool
I've debloated everything possible (since only apps that don't brick your device are enumerated anyway) -> installed Google apps. Works pretty well ^^
is it safe to remove find my device? in the pocophone thread someone said you can get bootloop

The Xiaomi ADB Fastboot Tool from Saki-EU list the safe to remove system apps, you can delete the listed apps but is highly recomended to disable all the MI cloud based services before, included the MI account and MI find my device. :good:
When I can delete most of unnecessary stuff using SAKI, I really feel no need to root my phone or install unofficial custom roms. It's already blazing fast with long battery life, plus fast enough battery charging with Q3 charger. I don't see enough benefit for taking a risk of putting my phone in less secure state.

This is what i know:
HybridAccesory: Perhaps is the one that makes posible the use of Micro SD in the first SIM slot, really not sure.
SMS Extra: Free sms service provided by Xiaomi using just Xiaomi devices, dont know if works outside China.
Partner Bookmarks: Never missed that
Xiaomi Service Framework: Big bloatware that makes connection to Xiaomi servers for ads and user information.
Xiaomi SIM Activation Service: Not related to actual SIM card use, maybe for collecting data.
Thank you, but what do you mean by "Partner Bookmarks: Never missed that"? Always debloat you mean?
I actually got rid off all those as well. Seem to be fine. Saki mentions all the listed uninstallable apps/services in his program are safe to remove. So I just removed those 5 as well. More free RAM now ? I just hope I won't miss MIUI OTA by removing any of them.
would debloating make miui use less ram?
title sums it all up. I'd really wanna know coz I'm considering debloating my device.
i had a funny nightmare last night where my note 7 was blaring out 7000 notifications a day about various "issues" with my device, and i couldn't even read texts because they just kept spamming me with meaningless fluff notifications. so i tried to install lineage on it.
...i miss my oneplus.
today i decided to check if official lineage was available yet, but this looks like it'll be fine for a while.
Defenitely!

2.3GB RAM available when I don't have anything open, I've debloated all the apps listed in earlier post, plus I have other extra apps installed (mail client, whatsap, games, etc).
Thanks! I only debloated some apps like: Mi Music, Play Music, Play Videos, Mi Videos, and MSA.
Still using some of Mi Apps and Google tho.

Can I update the OS without any issues, even if all of the bloated system apps have been uninstalled?

Pixel 2 XL Android 10 Semi-GSI for Redmi 5 Plus

Hi! A guide on how to get Pixel 2 XL GSI working on Vince/Redmi 5 Plus.
This is direct port from Pixel 2 XL with patches applied by ErfanGSI/Telegram servers.
MADE FOR SPECIFIC PEOPLE BY SPECIFIC PERSON. NOT A ROM FOR EVERYONE!
Google Camera 7.0 pre-installed however I highly recommend Google Camera 6+!
NOTE:
- The ROM is best used after the phone restarts couple of times.
- The ROM is best used after updates from Google Playstore are done.
- The ROM needs some time to stabilize and optimize after booting up.
After 2-3 hours of use and after updates are done phone will run very smooth.
You may face some lag/stutters but they will be gone later. It's normal cause stuff is updating.
Download link: MOD EDIT: Download link removed
Installation guide:
1. Extract this "Backup" file.
2. Install Orange Fox Recovery V10.
3. Wipe everything (excluding. Internal Storage).
4. Select "backups" and restore this backup.
5. Reboot into OS and log-in into Google.
If you want your UI to feel like GOD then use this profile in Kernel Auditor:
Performance Profile: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16Xrw0lDYPGs7AbUwgKvtqh5zVkWTbLDR/view?usp=sharing
If you want even more stuff then go ahead and copy and paste this into "vendor/etc" and set permission to 0644.
RIP Thermals: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-TCZSlJh321P_NhBsNhDxcuUYiB-Stlg/view?usp=sharing
Note battery life gets better after 2 - 3 days. Same for performance, UI will be smoother after while.
If something doesn't work go in Settings > System > Reset options and reset Wi-Fi, Mobile & Bluetooth.
Why use this?
- Easy installation,
- A lot of bugs fixed,
- Camera preinstalled,
- Root preinstalled,
- Viper4Android preinstalled,
- OS straight from Google.
- many other things.
CREDITS:
- Strix Kernel,
- Beast Vendor,
- S-GSI from LOLINET (ERFANGSI) (https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/gsi/),
- Thanks to everyone on Telegram for overlays and to the entire Treble Community.
Stable for daily use with few minor bugs like hotspot, now playing from google not working.
However most stuff works, padding, rounded corners, google services, all working fine.
UI doesn't crash and there's an overclock and pre-root installed with Viper4Android by default.
What's working:
- Wi-fi connection,
- Internal Storage,
- Camera/Video recording,
- Google Assistant, swipe from corners,
- Double tap to wake,
- Auto-brightness,
- Fingerprint scanner,
- Rooted by default,
- Overclocked by default,
- Safety-net passed by default,
- Playstore login/logout working fine,
- Google Drive fully working,
- Android 10 Full-screen Gestures working,
- Viper4Android installed by default,
- Playground in Camera working by default,
- Dark theme working, in Playstore, GMail etc.
- Night Light, Flashlight, Auto-rotate, Airplane mode,
- Invert Colors, Grayscale, Sounds, GPS, Messages etc...
- Rounded corners, padding, Google assistant, etc...
What's not working:
1) Wi-Fi Hotspot.
Solution: use Bluetooth, USB hotspot.
2) Now playing by Google.
Solution: pretend It doesn't exist.
3) Chrome Freezing
Solution: use other browser f.e Kiwi, Firefox.
- you figure out!

What's the error? Any errors?
Show me some screenshots?
Did you try System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth?
Can't really help you.
Try going into Settings > Network & connection > Mobile network and see If you can do anything there!?
Try removing SIM and re-entering. If nothing worked then sorry you could try Formatting Data? However can't guarantee anything.
I'm using Global Redmi 5 Plus that may be a reason? I can't really think of anything that could cause such an issue.

I really have no other errors to report, yes, I tried to restore the network settings with and without the sim chips in the phone, I restored the whole system, remade using the orangefox v10 and v9, and everything goes well except the network signals! unfortunately!

Sadly I can't help you. Sorry If I ever have some free time I'll post another thread without this bug. For now don't use this.
Thread closed, as requested by OP due to bugs.

Realme 5 Pro - realme UI V1.0 Android 10 - Official version available for download

The official Android 10 version for Realme 5 Pro is available for download from official site.
Official Download link
Impressed with the performance and new UI. It includes updates for VoWifi as well.
But also found that some bloatwares got installed along with the update.
Way better performance!!!!
I was checking the official website like every ten minutes. I downloaded it as soon as I saw the update. The size was almost 3.5GB. It took only 6-7 minutes for installation. And to be honest Realme UI looks way better than ColorOS. I played PUBG for almost an hour and the gameplay was much better than before. It gave me constant 45fps even when screen recording!!! Gonna try 60fps tomorrow!!
On the indian website, the new version is available, but on the european website, it still shows the old update with ColorOS 6...
I wonder if the version on the indian website is the same for every country? If so, can I install it without causing problem? Or should I wait for OTA?

I've installed in my EU model and it's working well, so don't worry.

Awesome! Thanks!
Thanks for the heads up! Installing it now.
Well I just noticed that the smart sidebar is gone with Realme UI... Before the update I had it and now I can find it in the settings, it's a shame, I heard that they revamped it with Realme UI, I wonder why I don't have it on my phone...

I'm in the UK, downloaded ota and installed from the indian support site, and I don't have smart sidebar as an option in convenience tools either.
On a side note, does anyone else think scrolling is a bit more laggy?

Factory data reset fixes it.
I already download and install this file from recovery. There is no problem about this update, and also I have my new smart sidebar.

Oh I see, well I installed it directly by selecting the update in the file manager. Do you think I should just reinstall it via file recovery? And what if I don't wanna wipe my data?

In my experience with both custom and stock ROMs on several different phones,, a data reset or clean flash is always a good idea with major OS upgrades, i.e between android versions. That's why I bit the bullet and reset it. Runs fine after.
Initial impressions of Realme UI after using it for 48 hours
1. Battery is terrible. Does not last me for a work day (100% in the morning and it dies out before night). I have done a factory reset to no avail
2. I dont see 4G+ anymore.
3. Wifi speeds have increased significantly
4. GPS lock happens rather quickly now
5. The phone is always warm and gets a bit hot when used for a longer period. I dont play any games. Just emails, browser and some social media
6. RealmeUI seems like a half cooked product. Especially the dark mode (and vice versa)

thank you for the review.
does ram management get better with this update?
in android 9, the apps auto killing even after turning off all battery savings.
Can I install this with TWRP?
does it wipe all my data and remove my root,Magisk, and TWRP?
if it does remove all my data, my root is there any workaround method to update ?
Sorry I'm a newbie that just learnt how to root last month ?

I did not notice any background app killing and have not noticed the RAM mgmt. I have the 6Gb version so not to particular.
This was a wonderful device on Pie. Q just killed it. I had raised an issue on the community portal and the response was quite silly (turn off wifi, it is summer, use dark mode etc). So either we patiently wait for the patch or switch to another phone if you already have one.
If you have not updated yet, i would recommend hold on
Still don't have the smart sidebar.
Google Assistant opens automatically nearly everytime I hit return
This update is so broken
