Camera sensors and quality on CFW ROMs - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Recently installed POSP CFW coming from MIUI Stock. The only real problem right now is camera quality.
Is there any way or app to use all the sensors or take better pictures?
Tried last Gcam from celsoazevedo.com without success (just installed and run, don't know if there's something more to do)
Thanks in advance

Did you try this gcam?

Yes, that's the version I tried. Sadly, after a day trying a lot of versions and configurations, goind back to stock miui 12

Wow, I had good experience with that gcam on some GSI ROMs I tested, wonder if it's the MIUI 12 vendor causing your issues. I'd try some GSI's instead.

OOSify (Flashable Zip)

I created this zip because I hate the hassle of flashing multiple zips and/or manually copy some files to /system every time I flash a custom ROM just to get some OOS stuffs, and I thought I could share the zip here.
This zip supposed to install OxygenOS 3.1.4 apps and files, which is limited to only 4 at the time of this writing, that is: OOS Camera (and libs), Gallery, MM Bootanimation, and Sounds.
(I know, no OOS launcher or Shelf, and I can't get the music app to work either) (yet) (hopefully).
Here's the file: Download
It should work on Marshmallow and Nougat ROMs, but it's tested on CM13, LineageOS 14.1, Nougat SlimROM, and AOSP-based Nougat ROM.
Known issues for the camera app:
Beauty mode (front camera) and panorama doesn't work. If you trigger Beauty mode, you won't be able to open the front camera (it'd keep crashing). Clear app data to fix.
Manual doesn't work on some but should works on ROMs with stock camera blobs.
I can confirm that its working on AOSP based Nougat ROM(Cosmic OS).

Thanks for testing it!
Hi, thanks for that. IMO users wants OOS camera.
Where are the libs from? OOS 3.1.4 ?
Different from what @CheckYourScreen did here?
I've seen that even today Sultan's improved again his CM13 with camera HAL.
I'd be really interessed in digging in it to see what can be used here.
What do you think about that?
Edit : Just saw that...
Thanks!, Getting the oos launcher would be interesting, if possible.

Not really sure of that as even in the official version Shelf was not really rock solid, but the idea is quite interesting....
It would be Google Experience Launcher + shelf.
I've read that Action Launcher have some kind of swipe action with a Widget panel, which is close to what OP launcher gives us...
Music apk file download from internet works well on lineage based roms
thanks! It was what I needed to improve the camera of my rom cyanogenmod by sultan.

Seriously?
Sultan's version is the best option for camera app. It's better than OOS.
Are you on 12th feb version?
@fchrkbr and cool for Nougat Slimroms, I hadn't seen they had pushed beta builds this month. I thought they had give up end 2016...
Will test it !
i miss the slowmotion feature of oos... and i think that oos camera is best in low light conditions... but my version of sultan rom is from august i think, probably now the camera has improved...

NB : If, you update, you have to update bootloader first !!
Low light conditions? For photo you mean? Because for video, it's really the opposite.
thats the bootloader thing that makes me avoid update the rom, im tired of having problems while flashing new roms etc
yes, for photos, i usually dont make videos

hey bro, thanks for the apps. but how to make the camera save taken photos to external sd ? internal memory is too small to handle it huhu
Only camera app (and libs)
Hey, thanks! Is there any way to tweak your zip to have it install only the camera app (and required libs)?

Installing Google Camera mods on Nougat ROMs.

For anyone still on Nougat, I managed to get Pixel2Mod to work on my backup AEX 4.6 ROM. Here's how:
1) First, you'll need a root explorer (I use Solid Explorer)
2) Via your root explorer, navigate to root/system. Scroll down until you see the build.prop. Click and open the file using your root explorer's text editor.
3) In the build prop, search for the "persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=0" string. Change the 0 to a 1, save and exit the build.prop.
4) Reboot phone to recovery.
5) Download the ossTWRP zip file from here. Copy it onto your phone's internal memory. Flash via TWRP. Reboot.
6) Download Arnova's Pixel2Mod (I used version 6 for my test). Install as standard. You should now have a working GCam mod on your Nougat ROM. Enjoy!
Feel free to test this with other GCam mods. So far, the Arnova P2 mods are the only ones I've seen to work without issues (e.g: green selfies/portraits).
thanks but OIS not works on Gcam Android 7
@MRDA1981 , do you get HDR+ on normal pics? I did get gcam on nougat, it has portrait mode and all, but it doesn't work HDR+ on normal pics

I was gonna respond by saying I only did a quick test at the time, though I remember the pics turning out just fine, as they do on Oreo.

I highly recommend tolyan009's mods. The latest 5.1 is best (5.2 just gives me black screens on AEX 4.6): https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-tolyan009/

Has anyone had issues taking pictures of/from moving vehicles on the latest AEX ROMs? I was on 5.7, and every pic I took under said circumstances with GCam (5.1 Toylan mod) came out super blurry. After reverting to 5.5, I can now take clear and discernable pics from/of moving vehicles, with little-to-no blur.

Are you on AEX 5.5? I haven't had a lot of time to flash and test because my job and University. Which ROM would you recommend?
Thank you.
Hey bro, thanks for your hard work, the camera finally works on mokee 7.1.2 with your method.
But when the battery power is below 25 percent, my phone begin power off automatically, do you have the same problem? and how to solve it?
I think mokee 7.1.2 is the greatest mod I've ever used, beacuse it performs well in playing games.I don't want to change other roms.
Thanks!!

Google camera mod?

Hey guys, I just wanted to know does Z2 play supports Google camera with portrait mode?
I tried few apks but not even one is getting installed.
I'm using GCam-5.1.018-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8.3b1.apk. Can't post the link to the site as I'm new here and the forum won't let me, but you should be able to find it by the filename.
It's based on Google Camera 5.1.018. I haven't had any luck getting newer versions to install, but that one works fine, including Portrait mode, Lens Blur and Photosphere. I had to disable video stabilisation, otherwise video recording would crash. If front camera gives a green tint, there's a setting to fix that in Advanced -> Fix Camera API2.

Do you have an older version of Google Camera installed? If so, try uninstalling it first. Also, are you on Oreo? Many GCam ports seem to require at least Oreo and won't work on Nougat.

I've only had my Z2P for less than two weeks, but it's been perfectly stable so far. Can't really compare with stock ROM because I flashed it to LOS on day 1.

OOS Cam in lineage os

How can I get Stock OOS Cam to work flawlessly on Lineage OS? I sideloaded the camera app before, but the pictures don't process correctly, and there's no 60 fps video recording.
Try 'Oxify' magisk module
Also look into GCam ports. You wont go back to any camera app after you use Gcam.
you can't use any. most of them are either broken or doesn't work properly with custom roms

Sorry to contradict you. Many Gcam ports are working. I am using Tolyan (TinNeun v0.6c). With LOS 16.

Question Camera issues with Lineage OS 18.1

I currently have LOS 18.1 on oneplus 9 pro, the august 17th release and I don't have google services.
I'm wondering wheter there is a way of using the camera array properly as it would have been on oxygen OS. I mean, currently I can only use the main 48mpx camera and that's it. what I cannot do:
- using ultrawide camera lens
- recording more than 30 fps videos
I already tried Opencamera and Hedgecam2, none of them allows me to do that. gcam is out of the equation since I have no google services, but I strongly believe these issues are not caused by the camera apps but by LOS.
what can I do to improve LOS and fixing these issues?
Just go back to OOS my friend. That's what I had to do.
I personally love AOSP based roms but I don't think their integrated camera/gcam is stable enough, for now at least.
I myself tried Evolution X for about 2 weeks. The battery gets a major improvement if compared to OOS, but that's about it.
It can be used easily as a daily driver but the lack of OnePlus camera and many other features which were available in OOS led me back to it.
I'm currently running latest OOS with magisk updated.
I'll probably return to cRdroid/EvoX after their camera issues get resolved.
I just want to keep this for a while, if the problem do not goes away I'll have to install OOS and perform a GMS removal.
Why not gcam with microg? I've used microg just for gcam and disable network access to it and there you go, gcam with privacy.

there is no way you can install gcam in LOS without GMS.
then you are locked without camera features

He is suggesting you install microg; a cleaner fork of GMS, I am using it currently on my 7TPro and Gcam is working just fine with microg.
Is there not a way to pull the OOS camera and install it on LineageOS?
