Samsung SM-G9860 Snapdragon Enable 5G - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Hello, I bought a Samsung S20 Plus SM-G9806 (Snapdragon). Eventhough it's geared up with the N78 Band, it cannot connect to 5G Swisscom Network. Is there a way to fix it (modify carrier policy....) ? Thanks for your help

I have a s9+ snapdragon and it can connect to the 4g swisscom. But it's always a danger buy this phones non European version. Some things just don't work, it was the first and last time I do this.
Next time i don't want exynos I buy another brand.
Maybe you must wait for some firmware update. In my s9+ , voLTE only start working after one year [emoji2361]

There is no issue with 4G and there were no issues with 4G phones. If they had the suitable bands, they could connect to any 4G network worldwide. But with 5G constructors had the good idea to enable only specific carriers...

Snapdragon is out of Europe so... if it's like you say , unless Samsung decides to enable swisscom 5g on is snapdragon firmware I think you're f**ked up.
In my s9+ the firmware works better in swiss is the Brazilian ZTO... my was from Hongkong and change.

Can you confirm the csc for this model. It will be one of the CHC, TGY or BRI. It is known that 5g has not been activated on the BRI csc.

I put my simcard in simtray 2 and it worked. But I also flashed Taiwan FW (instead of HK). Since I don't have 5G where I live, I had to move to another place, and I forgot to take a pin with me to switch my card.... So I cannot say at the moment what caused 5G to work (change sim tray or flash FW). But I will know it tomorrow. The only thing I can say, is that it works...

Its nothing to do with the software as the BRI and TGY software are the same and the difference is that TGY csc allows 5g to work. It is a known issue that 5g only works on sim 2.

No-one knows if its intentionally or just a bug.

Same here. I bought a G9860 from Hong Kong and 5g it s not working, it s showing but I cannot connect. In Sim 2 I have SD card. Maybe we have to wait for June upgrade. Or maybe somebody have solution?

I like to list this device to my cacombos.com website so everyone can check supported 4G bands and combinations but i need modem log file. Here is instruction how to get log file: https://mt-tech.fi/en/how-to-get-4g...ons-from-your-android-phone/#Qualcomm_devices and you can send log then to: https://cacombos.com/contribute .
If you can connect phone via diag you can then export carrier_policy where could see how 5G is enabled.

Note 10 plus SM-N9750D/S Roaming not working in Europe

I am traveling quite a bit between China and Europe and the phone works fine in Asia and when I am in Europe I am using a SIM card from Vodafone the Netherlands.
This works fine in the Netherlands but when traveling in France, Germany, Italy the roaming function does not work. No Data is received or can be transmitted.
Voice etc is fine and all roaming settings are fine too. My CSC settings show OZS_TGY.
Since the SM-N9750D/S is a Snapdragon version I am cautious with loading other firmware although it is unlocked.
Do I need to load other firmware or are the CSC codes the issue? Please help.
Due to the virus outbreak going to Hongkong is not so attractive.

Not 100% sure, but i feel like i remember that i read that you may need to enable data for Sim 2 (assuming that's where the Netherlands sim is)
Check for sim settings

Thanks for your reply,
Much appreciated.
I tried using both and switched also between Sim 1 and 2 but did not resolve the issue.
I downloaded the TGY firmware and will do a clean reinstall with ODIN. Hope that will help.
But thank you for your input.
also try manual network selection if set on automatic
Dear Raul,
I think I tried all common tricks to get the roaming going.
My idea is that it needs a different CSC code but not sure if this can still be done with ODIN?
Also Samsung feedback is vague on this,
Thank again Raul,

I am using a Dutch Vodafone Sim and Vodafone has some special arrangement with the roaming partners in the rest of Europe.
This might be in the CSC code but my phone is from Hongkong having TGY code. So not sure if this is the reason.
So when you come to Italy all might work without problems.
I could not find a way so far to change or adding CSC codes without rooting.
If some one else knows, please let me know. Would be appreciated.
Hello
I have same samsung note 10+ sm-n9750 with TGY CSC code and everything working very nice.

UPDATE 26 JULY 2020
I am in Italy now and I inserted a Vodafone IT. The phone work fine and I noted that over here I have a 4G+ band aggregation while in USA with my ATT SIM I don't and this is really strange because with my old Note 8 ( N950F DS) I use to have band aggregation and both of the phone have the same bands! Someone can explain?
Maybe an old topic, but I just try ....
I live in the Netherlands, have a SM-G7810 ( S20 FE Snapdragon, original TGY but changed tot CHC due to I need Call-recording). SIM-card is Vodafone Netherlands.
In the Netherlands all works great, data and voice.
When I go to Germany, voice works great, but data is nor working. Ofcourse tried everything in settings.
I did not try it with another SIM-card, so I'm not sure if the issue is only the CHC/TGY original phone in combination with Vodafone, or that it is the phone in general used in Europe with any simcard and try to have data on in roaming.

No 5G option EE UK

Hey everyone,
So I've got myself the S20 plus G9860 which I believe is the Hong Kong variant, 5G dual SIM etc.
I've noticed I don't have the option for 5G under connection settings.
I'm using EE and have a 5G plan in the UK
EE have dismissed me by saying it's the phone and it being a international model.
Any ideas?
I also don't have the option for e-sim which again is very weird!
Please help
Did you try to factory reset with the ee simcard in the phone? It will setup the phone on uk csc.
I'm not sure if 5g functionality is csc restricted or not.. But if it is this will do the trick.

you need to be very careful - 5G spectrum is different for each variant based on the market is released - so phones that might have 5G in USA or ASIA will not work in 5G in Europe and viceversa as each country uses different spectrums, unlike 4g - and the phones only support the ones in the markets they are released!
I have SM-G986B/DS mine is dual sim both normal sims and laso has 5g on both sim slots

Tried a factory reset and still nothing, same options appear.
I checked the supported bands prior to buying this phone and it supports N78 for EE in the UK.
Is there a secret menu or something I can confirm it actually has 5G and its just disabled?
then maybe get in touch with EE maybe you need a new sim or your plan doesnt have 5g enabled on it

As mentioned in my original post, I have a 5G plan and EE have dismissed me as soon as they heard it's a non UK model, stating it's the phone and not them!
Silly question but would I need to be in a 5G area for this option to show? Or is the 5G option always there regardless
5g is always an option I'm on 02 with a 5g sim however where I live isn't 5g but in connection settings it still shows 5g

Are you using the exynos variant or Snapdragon?
Try going to phone dialer app, enter the code *#2263# and tell us what is the options..
From here try selecting the one with 5G for the appropriate sim slot and see if it works..
Try to choose 5G with 4G since 5G coverage is not that good.
Mine is exynos s20+ 4G model so mine doesn't have 5G available. Yours may be different.

Which dual sim ultra version covers AT&T 5G bands?

I need a dual sim device but all of them seem to miss band 30 which is important on ATT. Some of the dual sim are 4G only. Some also have 5G but does anyone know if those 5G bands are the same as the 5G that ATT uses? If so, which exact model?

I am not sure which version support AT&T 5G but from this website(if the information correct) https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-galaxy-s20-model-number-sm-g980-g981-differences/
Hongkong/Taiwan/[China] - Snapdragon support the same network as US model.
There are 2 dual SIM version.
1. International - Asia + Middle east
2. Hongkong/Taiwan/[China]
if you buy the phone from oversea eSIM might be disabled so many people are having this issue.
But why you need dual SIM when you can get eSIM if you buy US version.

Go Google all the frequencies the variants of s20 you are interested in.
If all the frequencies uses by AT&T is supported then it's fine.

Galaxy S20+ SM G986N

Hello to all,
i recently bought the Galaxy S20+ G986N, mine is a korean version!
Now I accidentally read that the 3G/4G and 5G networks are limited! --> I did not know before!
Is it possible to unlock the networks?
Thanks in advance and regards
Daniel
PS:
Is it possible to unlock the Dual Sim version here? Since this is a SingleSim!
Allegedly yes if you bought the phone sans mobile network, pop you sim inside and talk to someone for 10 minutes, on your local network that is, it should reset to a "domestic" flavor of networks... it can be checked via the secret menu *#60# or something like that (google is your friend if not), dough snapdragon has no issue whatsoever with working on any network, the network locked ones and usa specific ones are a different thing, - even those can be made to work.
I was not aware any of the s10 and s20 series come with just a single sim as one slot can be used for sdcard and a sim... Give it a shot, you already bought the phone anyways...
I also just mean the 5g net. I guess only the Sub6 n78 is activated here. The mmwave not at all!
The question is, does it have a software or hardware limitation? If software, which one can I install via odin?

In fact 5G limited not only by software, but by hardware too, every band protocol of 5G requires appropriate specific antenna to be installed in your device. Moreover, you can't flash anything except the firmware designed for N version (no U/U1 whatsoever options) because of boot-loader.
Thanks for your reply.
For mmwave you need hardware, but I guess for Sub6 it's only limited by sw?!?
5g supported bands are limited by hardware.
Korean models only support 5G n78.
Hope this helps

The International Snapdragon variants have a better SoC however being in Denmark you won't get some Carrier Features the Exynos variants offer, that's the trade off.

I have the Hong Kong variant on T-mobile. Advantages - Snapdragon SoC, no carrier bloatware, close to pure android, dual sims, unlocked bootloader, price ($745 on eBay). Disadvantages - Warranty repair would be difficult, no 5G yet or carrier aggregation. Highly recommend, my S8, S9 and S10, all Hong Kong variants, never had any problems whatsoever.

I was referring to the Hong Kong variant, diffierent than your device. I've read some users of the HK device are able to get 5G from US Carriers using SIM 2.

You should post a guide on how to unlock the bootloader on the US model. To my knowledge no one has been able to achieve this.

So you don't feel the data transfer rate without carrier aggregation shows enough difference to matter?

Not to me, I typically download large files on my laptop via WiFi then transfer them to my device. I'm a frequent flyer so I watch movies (torrents) which are typically 2GB. Not sure how long that would take to download on my device via T-mobile but it's not significantly faster than WiFi. When mmWave is widely avaliable Carrier Aggregation will be more valuable but right now High-band 5G is comparable to WiFi file transfer speeds. That's a small inconvenience compared to the benefits the device offers.
@varcor did you change the CSC to see if CA works ?
I'm assuming you're on TGY. I'm also in the USA and think changing to BRI might increase ca bands.

No, my CSC is TGY. I live in Mexico but use T-mobile since they offer free calls and data in collaboration with Mexico's largest telcom Telcel. Even when I'm in the US I don't have CA. I haven't gone to T-mobile to ask if they can configure CA but I doubt they can on the SM-G9860 or SM-G9880 regardless of the CSC. I use a laptop with Wifi for large downloads so it's not a priority. I do get Wifi Calling and VoLTE even in Mexico, YMMV depending on your service provider. Also I've read BRI has some issues so I'm not inclined to make the switch. This thread may give you further insight.

That link is google amped , perhaps you can edit it to make it viewable, thanks.
I was just curious to know if someone had changed their CSC to BRI and if it enabled CA.
I believe the first thing to be gathered is what bands are CA enable on the BRI CSC before even proceeding with anything else.
Also before flashing to attain CA I think one needs to compare tgy and bri CA combos.
Edit. Read that already, mainly non americans discussing attaining 5G on their respective countries.
