[GUIDE] Flashing a different customization on the XQ-AT51 with FlashTool - Sony Xperia 1 II Guides, News, & Discussion

You can find out your current customization by dialling *#*#SERVICE#*#* -> Service info -> Software Info -> Customization Version. This guide explains how to flash another official Sony firmware of different customization onto your Xperia 1 II XQ-AT51. You do NOT need to unlock your bootloader to do this.
Download and install FlashTool from http://www.flashtool.net
On Windows you will then need to install the Flashmode and Fastboot drivers.
On Linux you do not need to install drivers, but you do need to set some udev rules.
On Windows you will first need to reboot Windows with driver signature enforcement disabled to do this. Then install the Flashmode and Fastboot drivers from the installed C:\FlashTool\drivers\Flashtool-drivers.exe:

Open Flashtool and let the device database sync
This may fail on Windows if you have Windows Defender Antivirus Real-time protection running -- disable Windows Defender Antivirus Real-time protection in Windows settings:
Click on the XperiFirm icon to get a list of official Sony firmwares:
Select the XQ-AT51 on the left, and the select the particular Customization you would like. Then click on the box below "Available Firmware" to start downloading:
Once the Firmware has downloaded, close XperiFirm and then let FlashTool do some processing on the downloaded firmware to create a .ftf file of the firmware in your C:\Users\<username>\.flashTool\firmwares folder.
This step is no longer needed as the FlashTool database has now been updated. This step is temporary and will not be required once the FlashTool devices database has been updated for the XQ-AT51.
Download the .fsc file and .properties file and unzip them into a new folder in C:\Users\<username>\.flashTool\mydevices\XQ_AT51 . Rename the .fsc file to "58.0.fsc" to use it with more firmware versions. Then in FlashTool's menu choose Devices->Manage->Import -- this will give an error, but ignore.
Now click on the Flash button and choose Flashmode.
Set up the Firmware Selector window as follows - this setup will erase all data on your phone. Then click Flash:
When prompted, power off your phone and then hold down the volume down key on your phone and connect a USB cable from the phone to your computer (do NOT use the UCB24 USB C - USB C cable that comes with the phone -- the UCB24 is for charging only and does not work -- you need to use a quality USB C - USB A cable or try the UCB32 instead). Keep the volume down key held until the notification light turns green. The flashing process will now be prepared.
When you get a prompt saying "A FSC script is found. Do you want to use it?" choose yes. An error of "those data are not in the fsc script: persist, reset-non-secure-adb" is entirely normal, so choose Yes, and let the flashing commence. If you get a prompt asking you to select a partition, select the top option for 128GB storage and the bottom for 256GB storage -- if unsure click cancel. If you get "ERROR:null" then repair your phone with Xperia Companion first.
Flashing will be complete when you see "Sync status : OKAY".
If you are worried as to whether the flashing worked or not, you can always then do a software repair using the Xperia Companion software. Please check your storage after flashing - some users are reporting that they only are seeing 128 GB of storage instead of 256 GB - please repair with Xperia Companion if you see this and report in the comments below.

I bought the phone from O2UK with the O2 firmware and managed to successfully flash it to the 1321-7192 Customized UK firmware with FlashTool. I now have VoLTE and WiFi-Calling on Vodafone UK .
FlashTool settings:
Here is the before and after Software Info in the *#*#SERVICE#*#* menu:
Here is the before and after in the *#*#4636#*#* Phone Information menu:
EDIT: I turned off and on again the WiFi Calling setting in My Vodafone and now Wi-Fi calling is also provisioned!:
UPDATE: After the 58.0.A.3.88 update on Vodafone with Customized UK, I no longer see Wi-Fi calling as being provisioned, nor do I get the Wi-Fi Calling menu option in network settings. However, Wi-Fi calling is actually still working and still turns on automatically when I get low cellular network strength.

Does this unlock the ability to have dual sim? I know you would still need a different sim tray. but if the phone will support dual sim after flashing that would make a huge difference for me.

No idea. Are there not more hardware differences than just the SIM tray?

I have no idea, On my OnePlus 7 Pro the only difference was the software and the sim tray, converted it to in global software and replaced the sim tray and dual sim worked.
Hoping its the same for this phone too.

I've managed to do this, but seems like I am only seeing 128GB of storage now? Is that normal, I didn't check before.

No, that is not normal:
You should only have 128GB on the Japanese models. Did you flash a Japanese firmware?

Customized UK 58.0.A.3.31, and used your files provided above.
---------- Post added at 07:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:21 PM ----------
Works fine now after running Software repair on Xperia Companion. Stayed on the generic firmware as well.

I've gone to try this and Flashtool can't see any downloaded firmwares. In your screenshot the left panel has the model tree, mine is blank. The location is correct as I can see the files there in Explorer. Same both my computer's. Odd.

Did you download the .properties file to the exact folder specifed and did you do a Devices->Manage->Import?

Got it, I missed the bit about renaming the FSC to 58.
Don't remember having to do this when I used to use this!

Hey,

Considering that you have already put the effort to write these, would you mind to aggregate this information in a single post, possibly the first post of this thread and rename it to a guide?

Done.
I have also made a pull request in the FlashTool devices db so that we won't have to do the .fsc and .properties bit in the future.

I have two quick (hopefully related) questions.
1. Has anyone tried to flash XQ-AT51 firmware on XQ-AT52? Obviously, I know Dual SIM may be impacted, but does it work? Any other issues?
2. Is there a CSC version of XQ-AT51 software for USA yet? I couldn't find it on XperiFirm.
Thank you so much!

I would like to know this too, we might have an answer soon enough since it looks like some people have ordered the 1 ii from wandamobile which basically ships the HK dual sim version.

I'm getting an issue when I'm flashing either the Customized UK rom or the O2 one where it gets stuck installing dsp.000, have you seen this before?
If I exclude dsp.sin from the flash it completes fine but the screen resolution is really basic so I'm assuming its the display drivers. Running a repair from the Sony Companion after the flash fails.
Stuck! Can anyone help? TIA

Agreed 100%. I would like to flash the USA firmware from the XQ-AT51 on my XQ-AT52, but (a) I don't know if it's advisable to do that, and would like to hear from someone who has; and (b) it doesn't appear that there is USA firmware yet for the XQ-AT51!
Hope we get our answer soon.

Apologies if its a noob question but if I flash different region software, will I loose DRM keys?

No

Ok managed to fix my issue, In the end I swapped the cable I was using which didn't occur to me as parts of the flash worked so assumed connectivity was ok.
I originally used the USB C - USB C cable that came with the phone. Swapped that to a USB C - USB A cable and the flash completed successfully!
Massive sense of relief after many hours of messing around with it! Hopefully this might help someone in the future

How to use USB Video Out:
As it seems to be a little "difficult" to use the usb video out package, here's what you have to do (this is a copy out of the readme file of the package):
You can download the needed files here:
USB-Video-Out.rar
Mirror @4shared
Enabling USB video out on the phone (ON THE PHONE)
- From Start Menu swipe over to the application list and run "USB Video Out"
- Answer Yes to enable USB Video out. This is a toggle.
- When the phone boots up it is in Zune Mode which enables it to sync data with Zune Client software on the PC. You will need to toggle this to Video mode using the above steps to get video out.
- Note: Toggling between Zune mode and Video mode requires the phone to reboot each time.
Setting up driver on the desktop (one time)
- Make sure Zune is not running.
- Your Phone must be flashed with a ROM that has video out bits on it, they must be enabled, and the phone must be on and plugged into your PC to continue. When the phone boots up the default setting is OFF for the video output.
- Start -> Right click on Computer, select Manage
- In "Computer Management" click on the Device Manager
- Under "Other Devices"
- Within the list of drivers Right Click on WM7VIDSTREAM driver, select "Update Driver Software..."
- Choose Browse and point Windows to appropriate driver folder.
- Approve the Unsigned Driver installation.
Starting application
- Launch VidStream.exe.
- This application does support disconnect & reconnecting of the phone's USB cable.
- If a previous instance of VidStream.exe was running with the device connected, you will need to simply unplug and replug the phone's USB cable.
- Press ESC to exit the PC Client application.
Re-enabling MTPz USB sync (Zune Mode)
- Open "USB Video Out"
- Answer Yes to enable MTPz
- The device will reboot to make the changes effective.

Update to 8860 and 8862 successful
Hi there,
just a quick information:
I successfully updated to the Microsoft OS Updates 8860 and 8862 via Zune.
Unlock is still ok, also the qualcomm bootloader was not overwritten :good:
The only thing it "killed" so far, is the information of my Custom Rom in settings --> about.
It changed firmware revision number from "FunkyROM v1.0 - xda-developers" back to "2175.2907.8858.13030"
cheers
Will this work with AT&T Nokia Lumia 900?
Hi lordmaxey,
Last week I downloaded this rom 2175.2907.8858.13030 from navifirm then flashed it using the NCS. No problem when flashing it. But my concern is the battery drain. So I decided to go back to 2175.2905.8858.12480 (variant finland). Actually im not sure if my qualcom is unlock. My question is can I use this rom same process to flash it by using NCS? thanks

no, you need to have an unlocked bootloader, to flash this rom. You can not flash it using NCS.
However Nokia want to sell her phones or atf boxes? ) Why write that stupid nokia bootloader? I read forums and see peoples buying Atf box for flashing phones.

USB Tether
Guys, apologies if this has been covered before. I'd love to share the internet connection via usb to avoid battery drain with wifi sharing. Do any of the custom ROMs allow/enable this? Seems to have been made possible with some of the Samsung Windows Phones but I find the network performance to be phenomenal on the 900 - even better than the 920 I own (looks like this is nowhere near possible on the newer 920). Was hoping the issue had been cracked on the older hardware/software!
@lordmaxey this ROM is amazing :victory: Thank you very much!
there is posible one problem: IE often crashs (I mean that IE automatically exits ) when I watch some websites that contains lots of pictures It does not happen in the original ROM.
But I'm uploading your ROM again and hard reset my phone. Perhaps the problem will disapear

Move all files from 'folder list' to 'Firmware content' except *.ta files (e.g. simlock.ta, preset1.ta, cust-reset.ta, ...) by selecting them and clicking the right arrow button.
Click 'Create'.
When you see 'Bundle creation finished', your FTF will be in 'C:\Flashtool\firmwares'. If your combination of device/branding/build is not yet available on xda-developers forum, please be so kind to share it (see part D).
To save about 2 GB of disk space, delete this folder:
- Sony PC Companion (Windows XP): C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Mobile\Update Engine\db\13740270\blob_fs
- Sony PC Companion (Windows Vista/7/8): C:\ProgramData\Sony Mobile\Update Engine\db\13740270\blob_fs
- Sony Update Service (32-bit Windows): C:\Program Files\Sony Mobile\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs
- Sony Update Service (64-bit Windows): C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Mobile\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs
Part D: sharing your FTF on xda-developers forum
Upload your FTF to a file host. I use Dev-Host for this purpose, but it only supports files up to 512 MB, so I use WinRAR to pack my FTF with the following options: 'Compression method' = 'store' (since FTF is already compressed), 'Split to volumes, size' = '512 MB'. Of course you can use a different file host and archiver if required. Please note that Google Drive, Dropbox and Box all have bandwidth quotas, so your shared files may be disabled if they are downloaded too much.
Create a new thread on xda-developers forum in 'Xperia ZL General' and include at least the following information:
- Device
- Build number
- Android version
- Customization version
- Region
- Branding
- Download links
Here is an example: [STOCK ROM][FTF] Xperia Z (C6603) 10.1.1.A.1.253 Generic BE (Unbranded/Belgium)

HI, i have a question
this procedure does not change the official operator of the band,
because for example in a xperia x10 mini, flash the ftf file from other country, the cellphone show the message input the code for sim unlock

That's correct. Flashing a different firmware customization does not lock or unlock your phone. SIM lock is inside the Trim Area (TA), which does not get flashed.

I already have got the ftf file from my generic 4.2.2 from Argentina. I'm uploading it and then will share it thanks Apollo89

Both the bootloader lock and the network lock settings are stored in the Trim Area (TA) of your phone, which does not get affected by Flashtool. So no, flashing a different firmware customization will not change anything to your bootloader lock or network lock status.
Part B, Case A: The downloading window disappears when I disconnect the cable. Doesn't matter whether it's before or after clicking accept.

1. To root 10.3.1.A.0.244 / 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware, you need to downgrade your kernel to the one from 10.3.A.0.423, then root your device and upgrade the kernel to the latest version again. See DooMLoRD's guide.
2. If you lost LTE, you probably flashed C6502 firmware. It's recommended to stick with firmware that is made for your phone model (C6506), otherwise you will probably not be able to receive any future updates (due to IMEI/TAC mismatch).
3. You say you 'rooted' with Flashtool? Then you probably clicked the 'BLU' button and unlocked your bootloader, which means that your DRM keys got erased permanently (so no more Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, MusicID/Gracenote, etc.) and your warranty is now void...
4. To change to a different firmware customization, you can follow this guide, but if you flashed the wrong firmware (for a different phone model), it may not work and you may have to download and flash an FTF for C6506 first. Also, this guide cannot be used if you unlocked your bootloader.
everything is as it came out from the store now...
now the next step is to find a ROM with blue framework
id like to try that one but i gotta be sure it will work http://www.androible.com/how-to-update-sony-xperia-zl-to-cm10-2-android-4-3-jelly-bean-custom-firmware/

How to enable VoLTE in Marshmallow...???
Thank You...
All credits to
XDA Developers
@arunps,
very nice post!
That is the first time that I see someone with a dual chip Spirit having success with MM.
Some clarifications, please: your post sometimes refer to a v20a firmware and on the part where you explain how to solve the NT-CUST error on boot you say:
04. Use H44020b00.dz extracted from H440n20a_00_0511.kdz
Your link on the post is to a H440N Marshmallow: H440n20b_00_0530.kdz firmware.
Is it a typo?
You had succes having both SIM cards with both firmwares?
VoLTE is not working, but do you have 3G and/or 4G (LTE) data working?
I am trying to keep root on my h442f (brazilian version) using this TWRP image on another thread, but I could't have my SIM cards recognized. Since you had cards working, I think that the version used should be very especific. Your link points to a "O2U Europe GB/United Kingdom" version, it was the same for your v20a firmware?

Dear.,
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE. & SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH
Remember we are flashing official stock rom. Not rooting. Only the difference is country variation. I flashed UK H440N rom on my H442 ( INDIA ). All LG Spirit LTE with 8196 chipset accept stock rom from different countries & known problem are NT-Code error & Volte voice. If your H442F have the same 8196 chipset., you can try any dual sim roms. Download H440n20a_00_0511.kdz from the post and extract H44020b00.dz using lg firmware extractor. I hope H44020b00.dz will work without any bugs except Volte Data Calling option. 2G 3G & 4G data will work perfectly on both sim. Flash it and change the language to brazil if you wish. Suppose if you don't have any network shown, enter access point manually for both according to the provider and restart the phone.
Steps
1.0 Uninstall all lg flashing software's including lg up & dll version. will provide you the software's to do the rest easy.
2.0 Install LGUP_8916_DLL_Ver_0_0_3_28
3.0 Install LGUP_Lab_Frame_Ver_1_10.msi or LGUP_Spirit_LTE_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3
4.0 On NT Code entry box, leave the code same and click write ( Lab Frame version Only )
5.0 https://app.box.com/s/c5yvbraphww5f2lhh91lofzyhs7cm5qa
"3UK H44020a00.dz" , "PLAY POLAND H44020b00.dz" also works without any bugs except VoLTE voice calling. Waiting for the .dz editor to fix VoLTE voice call error.

Don't worry about bricking my device, I already done that! :silly: Flashing has its risks...
Anyway, as soon I recover it I will try these firmwares. I have tried H440n20b_00_0502.kdz (from Poland) and H440n20e_00_0928.kdz (Portugal). Both didn't recognized none of the SIM cards. Later I found a modification in build.prop that solved that, but I would prefer a solution clean from the start, like yours.
After my device bricked (blue screen, with message about demigod mode and putting into download mode and use qpst program), since I could get into recovery and download modes, I used LGUP lab version with renamed DLL to restore my original firmware, but the dialog with NT code didn't showed up.
It stills bricked, even with original firmware (bootlooping LG logo, green android with rolling ball for a few seconds, resets... starts the cycle)
As soon I get my device unbricked I will try the firmwares that you suggest!
@arunps,
I could only recover my phone changing the motherboard
Anyway, it recognizes the dual chip, but only after I modified build.prop adding that line that I copied from the lollipop version of H442f:
Code:
#
# ADDITIONAL_BUILD_PROPERTIES
#
...
[B][COLOR="Red"]persist.radio.multisim.config=dsds[/COLOR][/B]
...
Can you check on your build.prop if you have this line (or any line refering to multisim)?
Where is the reg file? I smiply cant find it
Hey buddy, can you provide more specific description step by step what to do. For example I don't know where to find .reg file and LGUP can't recognize the model. It's unknown for it. My phone is bricked and I don't know what to do. Thank's a lot.

Ok. I downloaded the files, but no matter what I do, my LG H440n is detected as Unknown deviuce by LGUP. Tried everything, drivers, DLL files, registry, different versions of LGUP, always the same. Won't work with LG Flashtool, and LG Flash tool 2014, also. The phone is stuck on LG logo, it goes to download mode from time to time, when I go to recovery to factory reset, after I press Yes twice, red triangle appears, and won't reset the phone. I don't know what to do anymore.

Thank you for putting this altogether, this should speed up the development work for this phone(kernel etc), as people don't have to go to service center for hard brick.
Also I want to tell you, I shouldn't get the credits for bypass_utility, the two people you mentioned should be getting the credits, I just forked(copy/cloned) the repository.
I assume you are new to github, anyone can fork(copy/clone) a repository by clicking on fork button
You can differentiate whether a repository is forked(copied) or original by seeing on the top left side.
Thanks

Also I want to tell you, I shouldn't get the credits for bypass_utility, the two people you mentioned should be getting the credits, I just forked(copy/cloned) the repository.
I assume you are new to github, anyone can fork(copy/clone) a repository by clicking on fork button

You can differentiate whether a repository is forked(copied) or original by seeing on the top left side.

Nice thats great! sometimes you really need to be on Trial and Error before you achieve what you want. happy for you. Thank you for using my thread as guide, Credits to the developers of the utility. and you have a good english. mine is bad. :-D
Anyone who facing problem when bootrom check, you have to flash first time or it will show error. Otherwise you have to uninstall and reinstall libusb.exe and others.
Ok, thanks to ATDTEAM, very much, I bricked by patching boot image with magisk and flashing it, successfully flashed stock rom .ofp with SP Flash tool, not only this , I itentionally flashed another version , and it worked to, thnx to the bypass utility, it generates questions, the realme provides ozip files, so where are .ofp files coming from, or where we can get it, and... Fawazahmed0 , I am unable to flash twrp, I tried everything I could, I am on updated Android 10 c.19 now, so I can't flash custom recovery or root it... I can't even rollback bcoz I unable to find the older version ofp files, the ozip files just don't install, so please help for rooting Android 10, You have solved a major hurdle by introducing the method of bypass sp tool flashing but, the next step of flashing custom recovery and then rooting awaits... Pls help/ guide, Thnx...
Thanks brother, I've recently unbricked my device

This Is Why In Japan A Phone’s Camera Shutter Sound Cannot Be Muted
You know that annoying “passht” camera shutter sound your phone makes whenever you take a picture? Well, in Japan, you can’t mute it, not even if you switch to mute mode! Here’s why.
Back in early 2000, when Kyocera VP-210 was launched, Japan became the first country to sell camera equipped phones. These phones also had the ability to send photos via email (pretty astonishing for 2000, isn’t it?). When users started to get used to them and learned how to attach pictures to an email, a big problem started to emerge: as any citizen of a civilized society would do, people started using their camera to take up-skirt photos of women, especially in crowded places like trains!
By 2001, this was already a matter of online discussion and, because no legal provision has been taken by the government, wireless carriers took it upon themselves. In order to prevent secret filming and ensure privacy, carriers made it a requirement that all phones sold in Japan must be customized for the market so that all built-in cameras cannot be muted.
Phone producers and Japanese wireless carriers have cooperated ever since so that all phones make a distinct sound whenever you use the camera.

You can use my Magisk module.
Basically you only need to "setprop audio.camerasound.force false" and overlay to disable force sound.

while I'm not Japanese, I do find these articles somewhat annoying as they sort of paint a negative image of Japanese people in general. yeah, of course there are perverts in Japan that do this, but as many as there are Japanese perverts, there are that many if not more in other countries as well.
Do you know if this can be done to enable the mmWave on GLU0G European model?
Other question: updating firmware will not overwrite that memory block, right?

Idont think so ,These 2 versions should be different hardware scales
this partition will not flash with update package
it only record your mac addr bt addr and etc
so be careful
Yeah. It's a first world problem. When I try to take a picture of my kids while they're asleep the shutter awakens them. There are several camera apps in the store (s) that don't make the shutter sound if you're interested.
I'm thankful for the sound tbh. People at times try to record my kids on the trains( Japanese with natural blonde hair) usually I just tell them to stop and they do.
My kids aren't a tourist attraction for your amusement...

I tried this method on my 6 pro and it's stuck in a bootloop! can anyone help me?
I tried to reinstall the stock rom again but fastboot is as far as I can get. I can't boot into fastbootd to complete the flashing process.
I still have the original devinfo.img and I don't know how to restore it using fastboot. I tried fastboot flash devinfo devinfo.img but I get file size error.
please help
unbricked my phone.
you should have added "bs=8192 count=1" to your dd command.
now because of your half baked guideeven though I unbricked, wifi isn't working.

Try the Official Google Android Flash Tool (OEM Unlocking needs to be toggled on - you may not have to manually unlock the bootloader - the "site" will do that on its own). You may have to choose the option to Force Flash All Partitions, which will also wipe your phone.

I would pursue the warranty possibility ASAP, if you can. Then, if they let you RMA it, use the flash tool once more, but this time check the box for both Wipe and for Re-lock the Bootloader.
I apologize for the bad news.

Right, I saw your post in the other thread. Like I said, you should stick to a single thread - now you've got three threads going about the subject.
No, I don't own a Pixel 6 Pro, my wife and I traded ours in, which Google received today.

This partition is record of hardware information
So I think you did something wrong while modifying this partition
You can post the information about the failure when you flash the system partition
To facilitate better analysis of the reasons
In addition, if you stay on the google logo interface all the time,
you can check whether the computer system device currently has an adb or fastboot connection to confirm where the device boot stays.
