TWRP faild to install. - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi People,
i just (a Week ago) got my new Redmi Note 8 Pro (International Version) and today after 168 Hours waiting period i could finaly unlock my bootloader. Unfortunatly it has V11.0.4.0 PGGMIXM..... I tried everything to get TWRP going, but it always replaces my TWRP Recovery with it Xiaomis own. Is there any way i can get an presistent TWRP recovery installation?
- I tried the offical TWRP (https://dl.twrp.me/begonia/twrp-3.3.1-0-begonia.img.html)
- I tried the 1210 from wzsx150 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...overy-twrp-recovery-redmi-note-8-pro-t4033695)
- i tried the recovery from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-8-pro/development/rom-lineageos-17-1-t4072137
if it`s relevant, i just want TWRP going, so i can erase everything an install LinageOS, i`m not planing on going back!
Thanks for any help suggestions :good:

For safety you must install Antibrick - Factory preloader and then you can install TWRP, If something goes wrong, you can enter fastboot mode via Factory preloader.
Watch this video:

How to completely get back to stock?

Hi,
i have a Mi Max 32GB and flashed TWRP without unlocking (with the method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max/how-to/guide-install-global-miui8-root-t3435594) and installed MIUI 8 rooted.
Now i have to send it back for repair and i want to get back to stock (at least miui 8 unrooted with original recovery).
Can you help me how to do it?
I would try to flash unrooted miui 8 and the stock recovery with Mi Beta Flasher after it but where can i get the stock recovery?
Thanks

I think if you use MiFlash it will flash back everything including the stock recovery.
Will this work even if the phone is NOT unlocked? Where can i get the correct image? Which one do i need? And can i flash MIUI 7 too?
Yea... that was a great idea... i think it is bricked now
Started MiFlash Beta (which worked perfectly to install twrp a couple of weeks ago). Now i flashed the hydrogen_global_images_V8.0.2.0.MBCMIDG_20150805.0000.29_6.0._global_faa8bcca0e Fastboot ROM and after 94 seconds there was an error -translated - "For this command is not enough memory available.(0x800700008: Max buffer sector is 256)". After trying again i only get "critical error (0x8000ffff: Receiving hello packet). Also flashing twrp again does not work. If you see the Mi logo then you aren't bricked. Try flashing it again. If it doesn't work then try the Chinese version of the fastboot rom to get to stock then give the global rom a try again.

Just tried it and got exactly the same error
I could manage to reboot and go to miflashmode again and flash TWRP again. When i now install a MIUI 8 Global ROM it won't start but a MIUI 7 ROM booted. Unfortunately without any radio functions and with crashes. I think the radio partition is broken.

I can make you a flashable zip with the radios that you need that you can flash in TWRP. Try flashing the regular stock rom in TWRP.
This is all really crazy
After flashing a MIUI 8 Global ROM in TWRP the phone doesn't boot. After then installing an older MIUI 7 than before everything worked including radios. At the moment i'm trying to restore a MIUI 8 Backup which worked and delete data and cache to be kind of stock.
But nevertheless - how to flash stock recovery when i'm finished? I tried to flash via fastboot but this is not allowed due to the locked bootloader.

[Recovery] TWRP 3.1.1 (unofficial)

I was looking for a TWRP for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. I've found a chinese board where a user called YouLinw compiled TWRP for us. According to him and the users there (Google Translator) it seems to work. Can't test it by now, because my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 isn't shipped right now. It was really tricky to register in this chinese board and then to download the file. You can download it yourself in the board and for all other users I made a mirror with no registration.
There's now a new english TWRP from Xiaomi.eu.
I don't take any responsibilities for this file. If you break or damage your phone, it's your fault!
The recovery is in chinese - but you shuold be able to use it with screenshots in your language.

Great find! Any idea what version of SuperSU can be used to root The device ?
In this chinese board there's something written like, that SuperSu 2.82 is suitable for the Mix 2 (without guarantee).

Can confirm, superSU 2.82 works on Xiaomi EU rom version 7.9.22
unable to mount /system after nadroid backup
TWRP installed fine and experienced no issues until I made a full Nandroid backup. After the backup I have issues flashing because the device is unable to mount /system . busy or in use error.
So now I wait until official TWRP.
If you are having any twrp issues just reboot into twrp and the issues will be gone. Try again!

For the life of me I cannot get this TWRP to do anything. My phone came with Global 8.5 Stable. I confirmed my bootloader is unlocked. I flashed the TWRP and booted it, it boots fine but trying to backup anything I get Failed to unmount "/system" (Device or resource busy). I tried to reboot back into TWRP still same problem, I tried to reflash TWRP through both fastboot and TWRP image installer. I downloaded the EU rom and tried to flash it and it also failed to flash. OEM unlock is checked, USB debugging is on. TWRP gets over written with the Mi Mix recovery whenever I boot back into system, it doesn't ask me if I want to modify anything when it first boots. Why is this giving me so much trouble I've never encountered this problem with TWRP. Any Advice?.
Thanks much

There is still no official TWRP available. I always do a full wipe factory reset and manual wipe everything before flashing anything. I also get the errors, but I've never tried to restore a backup because I usually just do clean installs each time because the ROMs available right now aren't stable enough for daily use.
The trick for EU rom is complete wipe than boot back into TWRP and try flashing. You will get 2 errors but will install fine. You can install USB drive or transfer EU rom through mtp via TWRP.
I'll do it like @allrockedout
It seems this TWRP is more beta than stable :-/
Also check the "Mount" button and uncheck the option to open all partitions readonly.
Then reboot TWRP. Last but not least before performing any flash operations (ROM or Magisk/SU-Stuff) check all partitions as marked - then do your flash work
i also miss some more partition that are available to other devices like EFS.
Did anyone know about another TWRP version or devs that are working on one?

Sequence of installing Recovery, Preloader etc

Hey guys,
It's nice to see preloader is received and I installed first time when I find it. Currently when I press Power+Up, it will have a DOS-like menu for me to choose, It occured after I installed preloader. At his point, can I install TWRP and then root? Will this DOS-like menu be replaced after TWRP? After installing TWRP, do I need to wipe data etc? I have heaps of apps and games installed, and I try not to do so.
My andorid is 9 and Chinese+Global Rom
Thanks

For the rom to work the way it is supposed to, you have to wipe everything except sd card. So you can backup those apps to sdcard or not. I advise you wipe everything, because it might bring you problems if you don't wipe them.
Okay I just did all this today. Let me quote it step by step.
1. Unlocked bootloader after waiting for 168 hours.
2. Flashed Indian version of MIUI 11 rom based on Android 9.
3. Flashed Pre-loader files & lk and lk2 files successively.
4. Flashed LR TWRP recovery.
5. Flashed a popular custom rom but found it buggy.
6. Reverted back to the Indian Rom again.

At first I installed LR TWRP but couldn't boot into custom OS. Then I installed Orangefox and I was able to boot. Yes pre-loader was already there... I guess pre-loader goes away when you flash any official MIUI rom as this happened with me. After flashing the Indian ROM again I had to flash pre-loader and recovery files.

Cesium OS. Overall its a good os, much stable and can be definitely used as a daily driver except for the fingerprint sensor issue. If you try to wake up device using fingerprint, it freezes and never displays the screen even when the power button is pressed. You have to restart the device to make it workable. Its a known bug.

Just install Magisk and load any custom os of your choice when you are done installing twrp. Remember, some roms require a specific version of recovery and Magisk installation also needs to be done carefully. Good Luck!

LineageOS on BLACKVIEW BV9900.

Hello.
I bought the BLACKVIEW BV9900 running Android 9.
I want to install the latest version of Lineageos with Android 10 on this phone, but first I want to know if my phone is compatible and if it works fine on it?
Is it also possible to root this phone?
Are there people on this forum who have already installed Lineageos and rooted this model?
Thanks for your feedback.

When i search on google "lineageOS BV9900" there are sites that offer tutorials to install it. But having also seen on XDA a person who could not boot LineageOS installed on this model, it is for this reason that I would like to have the opinion of other people who have already installed it.
i may give it a try i recently got twrp working on it so its a good a time as any to look around.
(gotta find a way to backup my stuff first tough as its still encrypted and twrp doesnt wanna play with that)
annoyed
I had also a lot of problems ...
I had to reinstall the stock ROM over SP Flash Tool because of bootloop
I then managed to install twrp
- by activating oem in android setting
- activating usb debug mode
- fastboot flashing unlock
- fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (Took the bv9900 TWRP 331 found on the internet)
- Then tried to wipe, but I get an error that twrp is unable to mount partitions...
After searching I was able to get a workaround, a made a "Format Data"
- Install lineage img from twrp and reboot => got boot loop again !
- Then I reinstall only stock system partition through SP Flash Tool, and working again, but TWRP is away ???
Is the scatter File from the stock rom wrong ? How is it possible, that on flashing only the system partition, the recovery gets overwrited ???

Redmi Note 9 Pro (global) trying to get TWRP.

howdy
Because there was no dedicated thread here on XDA for the redmi note 9 pro (international) on how to root phone
I tried it kind of on my own:
I went here first
to try and unlock the bootloader.
(fyi) it told me I had to wait (I think) 176 hrs or about 1 week before it let me do it.
The problem is that when I try fastboot recovery I get the Redmi flash program instead of TWRP
(I also installed the Miflashtool from here
Thinking about it, I should be able to use THAT tool to install
what I believe is a good TWRP image (from here)
Will update as I make progress!!
cheers, and I do like this phone. fast, spiffy, and even larger then the Note 10 I use for work!
ok, tried the redmi flash tool, and tried to see if I could get the image , it will see the phone after I do a refresh, but cannot find a script
So that doesn't work.
Apparently I need to figure out how to uninstall the redmi recovery partition, so I can install the twrp partition.
at least it boots into android and isn't broken. That's a start!
cheers
Look for bprp miatoll, i have and works perfect.
I have this one: TWRP-3.4.1B-joyeuse-fix.img
It runs perfect!

so far i know for sure that this phone requires vbmeta.img and correct twrp (twrp-3-4-1b-joyeuse-fix-img) to be installed bu before that erase he recovery o be sure that it will not be corupted. \
Next thing is to deal with he encryption. Disable it with the given scripts at any guide you can find, there is plenty of them. Why? It is known that it may trigger the phone to self encrypt without asking you for permission. Yesterday i wiped out and started from scratch 5-6 times becouse of this crap. so thinking to avoid TWRP and make mod of fastboot rom and flash that. Will see how it will go.

I followed this guide and flashed twrp, miui 12 and magisk suceessfully. But problem whenever i run any game ,it crashes to homescreen after few seconds.. Plz help
EDIT: (SOLVED)
Magisk Root was the cause , upon unsitalling completely ,problem is no more. Can anyone tell me why was such the case?
Hello my friends, finaly I succeded to unlock bootloader and flash TWRP (mauronofrio), it works fine... but I didn't worked with a RedmiMi phone till now and when I want to take a nandroid backup I'm confused in TWRP... I don't know what to select for backing up... I found two options "super" with the same size... which of them to select? I'm not sure but I think this is the system partition. Am I wrong?
For backing up I'd selected boot, data and one of those two super option. Am I wrong? Or maybe somedy can tell me what is necesary to select for backup...please I need help! Thank you.
Edit
I'm back my friends, excuse me please... but this way to backup is useless! I tried another ROM and I want to return to the old one but without succes... Yes, the restored backup was "succesfully"... and was ended up with a boot loop and no way to regain access to my system. I had to flash everything from scratch... So, please, can anybody tell me which of the TWRP options should be chosen for a successfully usable backup and restore? Thank you.
