To have or not to have a bootloader unlock options will influence buyers - iQOO 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

My advice to the one who checks Xda before deciding to buy a mobile should never consider buying from Vivo/Iqoo(only if you don't care 'bout modding). There is no hope of development for the brand who choose the path of not giving the bootloader unlock option and not sharing the kernel.
Not every OS is perfect, even the famous Oxygen OS is not perfect that why there is lots of tweaks and mods developed for them. So, its a dead end road for Iqoo. I too was a OnePlus user but because of there pricing in the later phone i look for a little cheaper phone with a good hardware and i am stuck on Iqoo....... In short, if you love modding, Magisk etc. then never think of Iqoo/Vivo
Even the Xda community should better consider of not giving a chance of opening a forum simply because its a waste of resource for those that doesn't have a bootloader unlock options and kernel release

My poco is dead and i am seriously considering this device because ( I too was an OnePlus user but because of there pricing in the later phone i look for a little cheaper phone with a good hardware ). now i dont know what to buy.
Do you have any suggestions for me?

Depend on users need and requirement. So, hard to say what you are into.

[Q] Is the ascend p6 development slowly dying or what?

Good people,
This is a bit unusual for me, that the p6 forum will be so quite. There was time where I'll be so confused as to which rom to try and was changing them like my under wear .
Lately it's so quite it makes me wonder . I just so hope that we aren't left in the dark and that someone out the is developing smoothing good underground :fingers-crossed:

It's very simple, our phone is getting old, and Huawei did a good job to make it slow, buggy and made developing very hard.
Huawei showed us, that they didn't care much about their customers, they waited very long to release sourcecodes, didn't improve the kernel usw. They only cared about there Ui, which is, in my opinion, the crappiest thing ever done.
We had 2 developers, who made real roms from source, but to do this they needed to use old binaries from huawei, which made it impossible to make "real" custom roms, which cpuld be officially. I don't want to say that these Roms were bad. They were really good for the sources we had. But Bugs'n Errors could mostly only be fixed with dirty hacks and workarounds .
Now our Phone has ended its livespan it's almost 2 Years old.
The dev's weren't really able to go on in development, because there was no way to get LP working on our device and every sourcecode like Carbon,CM etc upgraded their rom to Lollipop. So there will be no fixed, no updates for a KK-based rom.
I have not really looked at the new sources and can't say that we can not build LP with those, but to make a rom, like our last Custom Roms were done. I mean with using precompiled binaries, like the other Roms did, there is no way to build LP without an official LP-Rom from Huawei ... and I don't belive that this will come .. I mean ... Huawei doesn't care about this phone anymore .. it has the P7/p6s and even never ones.
Ps.: Also I want to say that our phone is really bad build, .. i have my 2nd screen in my p6, the first had a subpixelerror .. so I send it in, it took Huawei 8 weeks to repair the screen ... now a year later, I have exactly the same error in exactly the same position ... It looks Like I'll be buying a new phone in near future ... the google ara looks great

I'm waiting for "project ara" from google, but I quess many other phones are very good on the market ... eg. google nexus 6 or 5, also samsung devices have a very good community with many devs and roms, but I don't like their build-quality and also their price-policy, ... there are many things I hate about samsung
I agree with everything said above! The P6 was a great idea, at the time it was the highest spec phone for the price (in the uk). In the months after i bought my P6 however, new high spec - low price phones were brought out (nexus 5, oneplus one) that were just better than the p6. I don't mind EMUI, but I can see how some would dislike it. I dislike the lack of support that Huawei gives, and I will definitely not be buying a Huawei phone again.
Don't know about you guys, but I'm waiting for the OnePlus 2! Hopefully they will keep the price down

Mmh Project Ara is nice but I'm still hoping for vsenn.com they din't really showed anything until now but they promise very good stuff
I'm going maybe for Sailfish OS, I like the idea of the OS and the mentality of the company (Sooo much communtity listening).
Sadly I come less and less often here, only to find... nothing new. The Ascend P6 is a great phone... and HAD potential, which was not used. I am also looking forward to the end of my contract (November) and choosing something else. Most likely it won't be Huawei again.
Because my Phone broke after i dropped it and because I thought the develeopment was dying i switched to xperia z2.

Agreed
It really has gone quiet. Perhaps we can ask XDA to add some tumbleweed animations to the P6 page.
I tend to agree with the first post, the P6 was ok but never quite good enough. I have multiple devices and the P6 has now been relegated to bottom of the list

Hello my fellow guys, just want to let you know that I've got myself the beast Sony Xperia Z2 and am so delighted. Now just patiently waiting for the Lollipop update.
I really liked the P6 actually. Great specs, amazing design and really really cheap. I kind of liked EMUI too. Its sad to see its development die out and I do wish Huawei people were more involved.
I will be sticking to my P6 at least until google ARA comes out.

I went with Samsung on many occasions but recently I switched to Sony and I have to say I am very happy. I bought the Z1 Compact, high quality hardware and software and timely updates. I also bought the massive Z Ultra because the price recently dropped to bargain level.
The hardware manufacturers underestimate the value in keeping the phone updated in good time.
In my opinion, a user with a phone with regular quality updates is likely to stay with that brand.

Not sure what you mean... It's pretty good support here.
Sell and get a OnePlus or something more mainstream if you don't like it.
Or the tools are available for you to build your own ROMs.
XDA is here for sharing work.
You also could have checked here before buying.
No one is entitled to third party software support and we are lucky to have so many devs working on the device.
As it gets cheaper more devs will buy as well. Mi 6 is good hardware but devs can't own every device at release price.

Not sure I changed a theme and was not able to change back to default. I posted on MIUI's forum and asked for help but only one reply which didn't helped. Other questions went unanswered too. But haven't tried on xda though. I didn't liked the fact that camera api2 is not enabled by xiaomi and you know what? I learned from MIUI forum that our notification LED is RGB but is limited to white color only by xiaomi.
Oneplus is not available in my country and even if Xiaomi gets any defect, no one is gonna repair because its fairly new here and almost everyone sees my phone doesn't know Xiaomi exists. Btw once I tried to build ROM when I had Mediatek phone and oh boi, it took forever for small modifications, learning will take long time and I don't have time for it, so no I will depend on others haha. And I hope as it gets older, more ROMs will be available, hope more like stock with less bugs, stock always have more customization from xposed.

is anyone can create custom rom

I want to buy a fone. Any suggestions how much time to recieve custom roms....
dont ask for ETA, I also ordered one Honor 7x too
When a phone is brand new with absolutely NO Roms out yet I'm pretty sure the whole "Don't ask for ETAs" rule doesn't count. Relax. Please be honest with yourself.
This device will only do good (For some people) if it gains dev support. Kirin is closed source from what I understand so development sucks when compared to Honor/Huawei devices with SD chips so inquiring minds will want to know.
I'm ready for an upgrade from my Honor 5X myself but can't pull trigger due to lack of support for 6X or 7X. Honor is good about updates but I need more control over my device (Root, hotspot, and Roms) past the 2 year update standard. I would go to xaiomi redmi unlocked but their US device lacks 1 of the LTE bands I need on AT&T.
Plus I actually really love my Honor 5x device and respect the company for their attempts to make affordable higher end device and come to XDA with so much support on launch of company. I won't for get that but I still need a device soon.

[Discussion] Hello Devs - Request for Custom Rom

I've never seen such a big community and a lot of custom ROMs like this. OK, it is a good, cheap phone. But a lot of people cannot buy it and have to choose another cheaper one.
So @ all Devs here: Don't forget us!!!
Have a look at Mi Max 3 for example, or others. There is not only one custom ROM since half a year! It is frustrating...frustrating not have the money for God-Phone PocoF1 and have to use only MIUI! Please look and help us...
Donate some phones on developers and they might start working on it on free time. They can't just buy and work on a phone without a good number of user base to start with. Oh yes, emphasis on term 'free time' because they do it as free extra work without forcing you to pay and most of them work on multiple devices.
Poco F1 had a good start because it was marketed as custom development friendly and sponsored by Poco Gobal itself. They started giving out phones to known developers voted by users.
If in the first place you were prioritizing custom development as criteria for new phone, then you should had waited for Poco to get cheaper or just saved more money. Mi Max series were never that attractive to developers to start with.

That's because the devs here are willing to spend their free time on development. And if you want custom development for your device, request it to the respective XDA channel. This channel is for Poco F1.
To be honest I see the major point for such big community is the 3 day bootloader unlock. Obviusly apart from the giveaway Poco themeselves promoted and even the community has bought throught donations phones for some great developers who started their work blind building... It's a community builded thanks to the company efforts in making it possible (it's not like they do it perfectly but the results are here to be seen.)
Even if your community bought today a mi max 3 for some great developers there would be at least 3 months away from trying the roms in their own devices...
I don't know man... if you look up for mi max 3 on internet prices are around 220€ and today i have seen offers for pocohone at 250€. While I'm sorry for you I strongly recommend to look up to the community a phone gets before buying it.
Have a good day sir.

agreed i buy phones that i know will have good development, not buy and then moan about it on the internet afterwards when there are no custom roms available.
lesson learnt the hard way
Don't demand, contribute. You should start developing for your device so that other devs can join in. If you don't know how to do so, then learn. If you want an active dev community, check the forums before buying a phone.
Remember, we get custom kernels and ROMs because the devs want to share the product of their hobby. They can keep it all for themselves and it's still totally fine. Please have some respect.
Lecterr said:
No, sorry , I won't. I can do what I prefer to do, what I think it is right, not you! There are a lot of things I don't like on Pocophone (missing L1, ugly notch, plastic all over, smaller display and accu) I never buy a Xiaomi phone in future, thats it!

Well thats your money and what you do with it it's your decision but how can we expect someone to spend their free time without some sort of motivation to do so ? in Poco case the company contacted all popular devs and send then free phones to kick start it .
One should always search for "Popular devices of particular year". Many tech websites including xda and gsmarena(dot)com display most popular devices on their websites. Also while making a buying decision always check how many devices sold or reviewed on shopping websites. This way you eliminate lesser popular phones and arrive at conclusion.:good:
All the best.:fingers-crossed:
lesson learned after buying a phone without active community makes your phone lonely and it was a long time ago. and now before buying new phone i always check if community is active on that kind model then i buy.. too bad this is your first time experiencing that.
Why don't you learn how to cook and port roms, and do so for your phone?
There are a lot of devs who said they will cook for my phone but nothing happend...THIS is frustrating a lot of people here...

My gf has a RN6 Pro, which I thought would have a big community and a lot of devs will work on it, custom roms, etc just like it's successor, RN5 Pro. But it's not. Should I say that it's not fair? Come on, nobody ever asked you to buy that phone or to use custom rom. Maybe next time you'd better wait before buying a phone.

Please STOP creating a redundant thread and more so post in the wrong section. If you want custom roms for your device please post in your device section. I suggest you read the forum rules before you post and always request for something you desire in the correct device specific section.
Please be respectful to the community when you post and never post in a demanding way. I have cleaned up the thread, Edited the Tittle and moved it to the Mi Max 3 Section, Please continue the discussion here on a positive note and request for developer assistance.
Help us keep the forum clean and do not clutter the other device sections with irrelevant threads. If you still want to know why Poco F1 is a desired choice you can check the existing discussions and contribute towards a healthy discussion and outlook.
I also recommend you do some research before making your purchase decision for your next device. Some Developer Friendly Devices that i can suggest are OnePlus & Pixel Devices. Just in case you dont like them or find them expensive, you can wait for the Poco F2 to be announced later this year.
Thank you for your consideration,

It's not anybody's fault that there are no more dev working on other phone. You're just whiny that the reality doesn't work the way you want. Don't blame others. Just sell your phone and buy a new one.

You are one of a few people, who don"t understand the message...never mind...
poco screen not big enough. and cpu overkill for alot of things.
also max users prefer to have a phone no need to charge up to 2 days with mid/heavy usage.
a phone without battery is useless. max series just too good for travelling and gaming.
then again...EU has saved Max3 with their rom all we need just an undervolt kernel with more cpu governor options.

Question Custom rom support surprisingly absent.?

Firstly this is not a rant on devs. This is a rant at Realme. And some questions.
Given that this is a pretty popular device with a really capable hardware the seems to be a very low interest in developing official tools for this device like TWRP etc.
There are unofficial methods for unlocking the bootloader but it's Realme's fault to not launch official bootloader unlock tool.
If realme launches the official bootloader unlock tool then can we expect more interest from devs?
Edit: a missing word.
Thanks for bringing this up again... After 6 months with such an intrusive OS without alternative, i regret to have chosen Realme and this device. Please devs, bring us LineageOS fast...

Right? THis is such good hardware.
Fast processor: Check
Good Camera: Check
Fast Charging: Check.
Good software?: big fat X.
There is one super annoying bug and some minor bugs but the big bug wants me to throw the phone at a wall several times a day. I just want Lineage OS or Pixel Experience on my phone.
