Feature Request Thread - Nubia Red Magic 5G / 5S Questions & Answers

Since we have someone here from. Nubia, let's get a thread started for features we'd like implemented in future updates. Maybe he can pass along the requests.
Here are mine:
WiFi calling
Being able to set default apps
Better custom launcher support. It's kind off iffy.
Time zone support. My time zone keeps changing. I have to turn airplane more on/off for it to reset. This is on automatic time zone.

Some suggestions to start:
-Assigning apps/actions to finger prints
-Recents menu returning to preferred launcher instead of Nubia one
-ARCore support
-Google Dialer support
-App Cloning
-Auto hide navigation bar and transparency
-App/Screen pinning

@JerryYin
You may want to keep an eye on this thread.
Thanks

- NFC payments
- Update Gamespace to add features like sounds profiles (available on Chinese ROM I think)
- Improve fingerprint and face unlock (has improved with updates, further refinement needed)
- Remove phone is accelerated message when closing background apps
- Solve issue when sound only comes through one speaker when on speaker in some apps e.g. Whatsapp

Hey everyone,
Adding a soft-launch option, in the form of an app-like icon on the screen itself, to bring up the game space would make things more convenient. This would spare the user the need to flick the physical switch every time they want to play games and would offer a software alternative to the hardware switch.
Regards

Didn't know that. Because my previous phone, Samsung S9+ updated to Android 10, still has android beam in NFC and can still share files via NFC. Same with gesture support for 3rd party launcher. Android 10 by default has no support for it, but Samsung's One UI allows 3rd party launcher to use gesture. Hope Nubia could also improvise in some of android 10's shortcomings.

Impressions & Reviews and thoughts about KitKat + EMUI 2.3! (B510)

I thought, would be nice to talk separetly about the KitKat International B510 firmware. Also we can write reviews.
My FIRST impression about this KitKat update is mixed. I missing a lot of features, like Permission manager for push services?!
Video playing is really bad! Standalone and online also. If i open videos online, and rotate the screen, i only hear the sound but the screen flashing all the time. Also video image slides alot!
Sometimes the launcher freez, when scrolling to another page. At multi-tasking when i close app with gesture, (not clicking on "X") it closes not smoothly.
Permission manager is gone? A lot of apps needed that, to work properly. For example: Facebook Messenger Cheat heads blocked, so i cant use it because of that.
Others? Whats your imressions overall?

This is BETA, so it's undestandable to have some issues and missing apps. All apps will be there in the official release.
Is it worth upgrading from B507 to B510 ?

Yes. Give it a shot, it is much faster and all the new functions are running very smooth. The performance is much better.
Update this beta version through OTA (I attended to do beta tester).
No problem with standalone and online video, about launcher seems slightly less fluid, I recommend using a theme created for 2.3 EMUI version.
About the permission manager, I suppose it's changed the method of management with the app "phone management"
I love the new keyboard and the new lock screen !

Yes, im okey with changes, but if it's working well. In phone management you'll not finding any options to set up, permissions neither push options. So it's not a good "change".

I find instead the new implementation significantly easier to use than before, for example, the widget is really functional and also the new management once you understand how it works, I do not mind at all.
It is true, I have not found the settings about notifications, but the rest is "smarter" :highfive:
for me no problem with video playback ( i sugest hwreset)
and Permission manager is now phone manager... so nothing is missing at all ;p
it runs good as for day of usage ;p

@BeyondTheHorizon (assuming your working for Huawei)
My impressions, after updating from B506 to B510. Note that since i have already used Emui2.3 beta (B014) and Emui 2.0 (official) i will not get into mentioning its improvements over Emui1.6.
- Magazine lockscreen is awesome. But i don't understand why magazine option is enabled only for a selected theme, while a few other theme have weather option on lockscreen, and why not instead have them all for all themes. (Also haven't figured out what the "link" option is within the magazine lockscreen menu).
- Overall there is lags and inconsistency in transition and animation speeds everywhere.
Examples:
> Pulling down notification panel has slower animation then when pulling it back up. While on the other hand there is also a jamming lag when notification panel goes back up.
>Random lags when moving about homscreen pages.
> lag in settings sections when entering each settings item.
- I personally dont like the splitting of drop down panel into two "notification" and "switches". The combined was much better. Even in the split form, there is design inconsistency, for example in the switch panel there is lot of free empty space on the bottom half and there is no point in having a slide down arrow to reveal just one row of switches. Furthermore it would have made sense to have the switches fill the bottom half, as it makes it easier for one hand usage. But i still prefer the the combined form which just two rows of switches and brightness option, while the rest hidden under the slide down.
- Thankfully the weather 4x2 widget is proper size, compared to the huge size on B506 and B014. But the transparent clock widget (first introduced on Honor 3c & 3x) is not yet available on this rom.
- The video player app is missing (and like others mentioned, the permission and startup apps manager, one hand option and navigation bar hiding option is missing too)
- I was hoping for changes in the "customize" section of the theme changer app. The old problem of swiping right/left a lot to get to the end of the lockscreen styles, or icons types, etc remains a burden.
- As someone said, its time to change the grey color of navigation bar. Either allow users to customize it, or have a number of colors that changes according to apps.
- In contacts "favorite" section, there is Chinese fonts.
- I don't think there is a need to have all the google apps pre-installed. Just a couple of them would be enough, while the rest can be downloaded from playstore.
- The water mark option in camera is nice. Cant find the "Cheeze" to take pics option. The photo editor is great and fun too. Video recorded on camera comes out dark. In case of taking selfie pics, once you hit the shoot button, the screen weirdly gets all yellow before taking the pic. Photos looks grainy too. But im no expert on camera, so i could be wrong.
- The Chinese rom had an app center app, and at times the latest version of the Huawei apps would be available on that. Such app updates are not available on this rom.
- The types of transition effects for homescreen keeps decreasing with every new rom update, when instead we should be getting newer ones added.
- The homescreen icons on this rom appear slightly bigger compared to them on the Chinese rom. Can be noticed when applying emui2.0 theme icons on this emui2.3 launcher.
Good and bad in B510
Good
- Magazine lockscreen is really good. I like it, hope more themes are like that.
- I like the splitting of drop down panel into two "notification" and "switches". But I hope they could have a setting to enable/disable it.
- Floating apps are awesome.
- Torch in notifications is very useful.
- Ultra power saving mode changes UI to dark black --> seems convincing that it will save battery life. Overall this rom has decent battery life.
- External SD settings
Bad
- Just hope that when I use other music players it can get the controls on the lock screen. Also, if there was a music slider to skip a few seconds of music was available on lockscreen that would be good.
- Hope that the default launcher could have a drawer. Having all the apps on the screen is messy.
- The radio widget still isn't transparent while the other huawei widgets are. It stands out and looks ugly.
- No permissions manager. It blocks facebook chatheads by default because it draws over other apps. No way to unblock it because permission settings are missing.
- The grey color of navigation bar is horrendous. Hopefully they notice this and they make it black or able to customize.
- Camera pictures look grainy.
- GPS still sucks. Don't know if it is a hardware issue.
- No ART mode
Other
- I don't know what to think about the carrier name. I feel like it's ok, don't hate it or like it.
The carrier name HAS to go! Why do they need to put it there anyway?
I agree with @warea about the notification panel that is better in Emui 2.0. Having it separate could work if you can change the settings of how you want it to be opened.
I find that the rom is a bit laggy most of the time, but for a beta I can live with it.

The carrier name it's something new for this update. And everything else it's really just a matter of opinion. The most important thing is that this ROM must run smooth and fast without any lag when it will be released as official/final. Everything else is just customization that can be added or removed by rooting and installing third party apps.
Also noticed, my phone is really hot, even for simple use. And the battery is really bad on this rom.

What features would you like to see in Lineage that CM didn't have?

Use this thread to suggest features that weren't in CyanogenMOD that you'd like to see in Lineage.
Parenthesized text in italic are my comments regarding the suggestion.
Suggested Features
Built-in system cleaner
Device: request the PIN once a day
Extra support for smart cards
Disable root icon for specific apps
Display network speed in status bar (see EDIT below)
Incremental updates (OP note: this could be handy)
Better app lock (CM had Protected Apps but you can bypass them by clicking on a notification, and you can only lock them with a pattern)
A bunch of features to include in the default launcher
Built in Package Disabler (I think you can just disable the app in the Settings?)
Battery bar
Use substratum theme engine (or at least have better support for it)
Free RAM overview in Recents
Allow any app to run in background
Better support for microG
Stock launcher experience, with more customization options
More lock screen options, like time and weather widgets on lock screen
WebDAV (CardDAV, CalDAV) sync options
Become a fully featured ROM with full F-Droid support
Built-in support for OpenVPN
Autolock phone after call end
Adreno idler
Live Display for all phones (I don't think that's possible because of the sensors each phone has)
Reverse portrait mode
Ship ROM with no apps installed; let the user choose his apps (bit skeptical about this one, maybe we could customize what packages we'd want in our ROM before downloading it?)
WiFi band selection (was removed in Nougat)
Caffeine quick tile (http://lineageos.org/Last-Week-in-LineageOS-5/)
Change DPI settings per app (have different DPIs for different apps)
Better permission handling
Custom date format in status bar
Advanced call blocker and recorder (the latter would be neat to have)
Record voice calls with Voice Recorder app
Backup and restore LineageOS settings (maybe the user could choose where he wants to save the backup file?)
GNURoot Debian support
Gello: update to Chromium v50+ (see EDIT below)
Gello: allow users to choose their download location
Music: add Folder View option
Trebuchet: notification count badge that works like TeslaUnread
Ability to manage certificates

EDIT2: I'm not, in any way, affiliated with LineageOS (nor am I an official developer). I'm a community member just like you are
Android in general needs a system cleaner. Like CCleaner and others. Something like that would be good.
Change logs should be listed in the system update tool.
The system update tool should show at least a week of older updates as well as the current available updates. For example if I am running cm14.1 12-12-16 and I check for updates it will not show 12-6-16, only newer updates. Some updates contain bugs that may be missed for days. I usually delete old updates because it uses up space on my device with limited space. I updated to the latest cm14.1 two days ago and my data service was broken. The website no longer listed cm updates for me to find and I could not downgrade, I'm running aicp because I couldn't downgrade BC I usually delete updates that are older.

TWRP recovery
Scheduled full backup of LineageOS modified OS settings (Live Display, Battery meter, time settings, WiFi passwords, status bar quick access configs etc) and apps with their data to Google Drive, so the user can wipe the phone or pick up a new one and restore everything from Google Drive.
Okay, I guess I find I'm slowly turning into more and more of a scientist and so I come up with really whacky theories and really whacky ideas of things to try. I'm knowledgeable about security practices, so some things I'd like to see... (I've been on Android 5, so it is possible at least one of these was already added to 7)
Add the ability to make LineageOS demand the device password (or PIN) once per day. Fingerprint readers are handy for quick lock/unlock, but your fingerprints are readily available. If one was to end up in state custody you likely don't want them to access your private data. As such, I'd like the ability for devices to lock once per day and require the password (or PIN) to unlock.
Include some extra support for smart-cards. One neat thing about smart-cards is they're rather more difficult to tamper with than normal data on a phone. If one's phone ended up in the hands of authorities and they really wanted to unlock it, they'd be able to get at the hashes in flash-memory. If the key for encrypting the userdata area was instead stored on a smart-card, they have a great deal more difficulty getting at it.
It would also be interesting to support OpenPGP cards and using a olde phone as an extra layer of security protecting one's PGP keys.
Okay, hopefully not too whacky for you.
The ability to roll back updates, (I know you can always take backups, but those take forever.)
- The old jellybean tablet ui for tablets.
- Assuming it's going back to it's roots as an os for enthusiasts, rather than a mainstream os, I'd like to see trickstermod type settings built in again.
- If means income to support development, I wouldn't be opposed to them following through on the miui business model they flirted with of having a cutting edge theme engine and a proprietary paid theme store.
Some way to disable the root notification icon per app.
Network speed display on the status bar
Double tap to wake!!!! I don't want to use my hardware buttons more than I have to. Cut down on physical wear.
Incremental updates
App Lock

Desired LineageOS features that were not in CM?
1) Samsung's Smart Stay feature
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00047864/
2) Ambient Display/Moto Active Display feature
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TyhaOjME5g
3) The ability to increase the size of all icons and text e.g. like in Nova Launcher
4) Lock screen weather animation(e.g. Like in the LG G3)
5) Double tap to wake and sleep, and Knock code
6) "Doze - For Better Battery Life" functionality with a whitelist feature
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yirgalab.dzzz&hl=en
7) A Package Disabler app feature that can disable any application
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro&hl=en
8) A reliable custom ROM installer that supports a large variety of Android devices
9) Stickers and themes for the native SMS application
10) When you downloaded a new CM ROM upgrade(e.g. a nightly), you had to reboot into TWRP and manually select the ROM file to install it.
LineageOS ROM upgrades should function like regular OTA upgrades do i.e. you download it, choose install, it reboots your phone and
it automatically applies the upgrade(i.e. no hunting down the appropriate zip file)
P.S. The appropriate version of GApps should automatically be installed too if GApps was present before the upgrade!
11) A parallax effect option for any wallpaper(e.g. in the Samsung Galaxy S6)
12) Counters/badges for unread emails, missed voicemails, calls & SMS/MMS messages
13) A native HTML email client(as opposed to plain text). I should be able to click on urls in emails. Phone numbers in emails should
launch the phone dialer
14) A calendar icon that shows the current date on the home screen calendar icon
15) A voicemail-to-text feature
16) A chatheads option for the SMS app
17) A shortcut to install gApps
A superuser more in line with SuperSu, so no apps bork because no "SuperSu" even though device is rooted.
Perhaps phh's SuperUser/ OpenSource SELinux-capable SuperUser?

What Happened? Also good ROM Suggestions?

So I have noticed multiple things that has been missing and screwed up on the December update and just Pie in general
1. Since upgrading from Oreo to Pie we have lost WPS capabilities (unless its just me)
2. Display ===> Advanced ===> Device Theme ===> Dark.
Does not work what so ever
3, Notification drawer sometimes bugs out and the tool icons don't animate all the way down properly
4. Wifi.
5. Extreme battery drainage (I don't even know if this is a problem for all devices all I know was Oreo was so much better on battery life)
6. Sound bars in the settings sometimes glitch out and go back to previous state (maybe just for me)
Trust me there is more but im just too lazy to type it
Please post some good names of links to GSI/Treble ROM's below.
Remember - all ROMs need a 9.6.4.0 stock as base!
/With the exception of those whose authors indicated to use the Pie stock base/
So, good GSI roms are:
Phh AOSP v109
Havoc 2.0
ResurrectionRemix 7.0
Pixel Experience P
ArrowOS 6.1
AEX Pie

Bluetooth and WiFi is probably the two things that bugs out the most the Bluetooth interferes with the WiFi making the WiFi disconnect active internet connection or not and it gets annoying coming from a PDANet+ user.
Dark theme doesn't work i guess it will be fixed in the later updates the toggle in display settings doesn't do anything also the wallpaper feature doesn't change for me. It's not a problem for me as I'm using custom overlays in the screenshot below I have a system-wide theme in the colors below tackling Spotify, Snapchat, Package installer, settings, and 100+ more. It's a problem for other people.
You would experience something sometime or you probably haven't noticed yet.

[Beta V5 - almost Bug free] S10 plus One UI 2.0 Official Beta

Hi buddies,
[18/11/2019] Beta V5 - almost Bug free
It has only been three days since Samsung released the fourth Android 10 beta for the Galaxy S10. The company is now rolling out a completely new build for the Galaxy S10 series. This is the fifth beta release for the initial markets which include Germany, the United States and South Korea.
This appears to be the fastest that Samsung has sent out two beta updates without the second being a hotfix for a major issue identified in the first. The firmware that’s rolling out today is a bonafide Android 10 beta update.
New Android 10 beta being rolled out for the Galaxy S10
Samsung is now rolling out firmware version G97**XXU3ZSKF for Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ units that are already running beta firmware. The changelog mentions that it brings fixes for several bugs. They include a black screen appearing on the device when it’s unlocked using the fingerprint, the date not being showed in AOD Photo Mode, overlapping of camera zoom and camera mode icons, music quality deteriorating after the previous update and more.
It’s pertinent to note that the list of bug fixes included in this update is shorter than the previous one. This is a good indication that Samsung is closer to getting Android 10 ready for public release. It has already stopped taking registrations for the Galaxy S10 beta program in South Korea. All signs are now pointing toward an impending Android 10 release for the Galaxy S10.
If history is any indication, Samsung should be in a position to roll out the Android 10 One UI 2.0 update to Galaxy S10 owners before the end of this year.

[29/10/2019] Unlock Issue Hotfix
Samsung has released an Android 10 hot fix beta update for the Galaxy S10 series for the critical issue that is causing devices to stop accepting the PIN, password, or pattern and locking users out. I am not facing this issue not at all, and Samsung is now pushing out an update to fix it. We can confirm the update is available in South Korea, and India, and it should also be rolling out in other markets where the One UI 2.0 beta program was launched given how important it is. The update has build number G975****3ZSJL and is a roughly 135 MB download.

[25/10/2019] Beta V2 Update include Fingerprint Patch
After expanding the Android 10 beta program for the Galaxy S10 to new markets yesterday, Samsung has started rolling out a second beta in countries where the program debuted earlier this month: the US, Germany and South Korean. It’s even available in the UK, where the beta program was launched temporarily. As expected, the second beta brings fixes for a slew of bugs in the first beta release; it comes with software version G97*USQU2ZSJF in the US, G97*FXXU3ZSJF in Germany, and G97*NKSU3ZSJF in Korea.
The first bullet point in the list of bug fixes is the most important one: The second beta includes the patch for the fingerprint flaw that enables the phone to be unlocked by any fingerprint when a certain type of silicone case is installed on the screen. This patch is available for those on Android Pie as an over-the-air biometrics update. The new beta update also fixes battery consumption and heat issues, force closes in Bixby Routines and the camera and keyboard apps, a bug that enables Dark mode even when it is deselected when a power saving mode is active, and a crash of the android.process.media process, among others.

Samsung Members app. Last time it just showed up on the home screen of the app when it was ready.

Question Gripes with XIaomi's software limitations, anyone can help?

Hi guys,
I bought a Xiaomi 13 Pro recently for battery life and camera and I'm certainly happy with it! However, coming from an AOSP-ish experience I can't help but feeling very frustrated with the UI/UX of MIUI so far, setting up my new phone, especially:
1. Not being able to use full-frame gestures on third party launchers
2. The app manager cleaning my widget apps when I clean apps forcing them to close and not refresh widgets before I reload the app + reload the widget
3. Having to set up manually lockscreen notifications for every sub category of notifications within each and every app - by default, apps will not show lockscreen notifications and when the general toggle within the notification menu is switched on, I have to go into each notification subcategory to re-confirm my setting of actually having this notification show on the lockscreen in a secondary toggle - is there any way ALL can be selected to show on lockscreen = ON by default?
4. Lockscreen notifications disappearing when I unlock the screen once
5. Some apps just not working at all, like Tiktok (I'll write a different post on it)
6. Unnecessary bloatware I don't need
If you have any workarounds for any of these issues or know how to get something as close as AOSP as possible that would be very much appreciated, as much as I love the hardware of this phone, the software is difficult to manage and I don't want to end up selling the phone!
Thank you so much
1/This is a Xiaomi decision.
2/Try to put the apps concerned in automatic start and no restriction on the battery saver.

Settings/notification and control center/notification effect.
Settings/notification and control center/lock screen/Format.
If you use AOD, check that notification is activated on the theme.
5/Long press on the app icon/information/notifications/grant the necessary permissions (all except, refuse or resend empty messages).

***For this, notifications are indeed activated IN GENERAL for lockscreen, but subcategories are deactivated by default, essentially I have to do twice the activation for lockscreen notifications
5/Long press on the app icon/information/notifications/grant the necessary permissions (all except, refuse or resend empty messages).
***For this it's actually the app that can't connect to the internet, not the notifications. Nothing seems to be unlocking like if an invisible firewall was blocking the app.

Possible,Try: settings/connection share/DNS
You won't have this problem with a Xiaomi Eu rom.
