[Guide] Dolby installation without root (only apps that have equalizer option)

This guide will allow you to install Dolby equalizer without root on your asus zenfone max pro M2. Just follow these simple steps:-
1) Install the app provided below
2) Now open the app
3) Now close the app and remove it from recent apps
4) Now go to any music player
(recommended music player): jiomusic, google play music, gaana, saavan, spotify, hungaama and other equalizer supported player
5) Now in your music player app open equalizer icon from the settings of the app
6) You will be greeted with AsusDolby and then turn asus dolby on
7) Now on equalizer select normal, classic, pop etc option according to your need......(DOLBY EQUALIZER) option recommended
8) Now you can enjoy your DOLBY SOUND ON STOCK ROM
Be amazed with the results!!!!!!

Spotify and Play Music, it only does so in headphones. No complaints while using it on the stereo, i guess because they are always so loud

If you use headphones specially Bluetooth with mic then audio quality is automatically changed, maybe that's why you where experiencing background noise. Stereo mode is recommended for music.

By stereo i meant my car stereo..? sorry for the confusion, and no i don't use Bluetooth headphones.. my headphones are Sennheiser hd 180 over the ear, and boat basshead 100 in ear

Well i just decreased the two sliders "bass" and "sound field".. what do you know there's no noise anymore.. but still i get the enhanced sound quality

Check the apk attachment seems to work for me

The app in OP is not by Dolby. It's just a renamed app. The real name of the app is LifeVibes MusicFX by NXP Software. Here's the original apk. All credits to the app developer(s).

How to improve speakers quality (balance, bass, clarity) [7 / 7T / 7 Pro]

It's possible to significantly improve loudspeakers sound quality and fix imbalance with hidden Dolby Atmos settings.
Follow any or both steps below (good for all Oneplus 7 series).
STEP 1: Fix stereo imbalance (ROOT is required)
The top loudspeaker sounds louder and crispier than bottom (moreover, the top rattles more at high volume). This can be fixed by editing dax_sqlite3.db with any SQLite editor:

I used SQLite Editor app:
1. Open dax_sqlite3.db and go to "tunings".
2. Open record with "speaker_landscape_normal" and edit 2 parameters, then save.
Replace audio_optimizer_gain_l with new value:

Replace audio_optimizer_gain_r with new value:

-16,24,72,48,40,32,32,32,32,32,32,32,32,32,32,32,32,32,32,16
Each number separated by comma = gain in dB * 16 (i.e. "32" means "+2 db", "-16" means "-1 db").
3. (OPTIONAL - may be useless on your rom) Analogically replace the same parameters for the records "speaker_portrait_normal", "speaker_landscape_India", "speaker_portrait_India".
4. Reboot. That's it!
If something goes wrong (or you dislike new sound), just remove dax_sqlite3.db and reboot. Dolby will re-create it and return all default settings. Details about this edit:
We change overal speaker output optimization. Practically it's 20-band EQ for each physical speaker (audio_optimizer_gain_l = top).
So we reset both EQs to sound equally neutral, but keep the top speaker ~2 db lower.
STEP 2: Enable graphic EQ for speakers
You can activate dolby atmos equalizer for loudspeakers (available only for headphones by default) to get more bassy and clean sound.
If you don't have ROOT, use this DAX2 app: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7t/how-to/dolby-atmos-equaliser-7t-hd1903-root-t4054999
You will have to disable/freeze built-in dolby tuner for full functionality (see tips also in that thread).
If you have ROOT, I recommend the method below. It relies on internal dolby app and will work in all modes (dynamic/movie/music + ringtone).
You'll need to edit sound_tuner.db with any SQLite editor:

Again with SQLite Editor app:
1. Open sound_tuner.db, then go to "sound_tuner" and edit the line with "speaker_device".

headphone_style_preferred keeps value from 0 to 3 (0 - balance, 1 - warmer, etc), "0" is recommended.
audio_frequency keeps a string with each band gain in dB, separated with '#' without spaces. Recommendation for 7T:

Don't use "7.0" or higher for first three bands - it will harm the speakers at high volumes.
3. To apply EQ switch current mode in Dolby Atmos settings (e.g. Music to Dynamic). That's it!
To reset EQ you can return "0#0#0#0#0#0#0#0#0#0" in "audio_frequency".

I have a really dumb question: where can I find that app? I searched the play store and nothing I found came up with db editing tools.
Sorry about the search failure question, this is something I'd like to do.

MyAndroidTools can be downloaded at least on Github. As i'm new user here, I cannot paste links yet. Google "MyAndroidToolsWebsite github". I used 1.6.8 release apk.
There's also "aSQLiteManager" app on the play store, it's old and quite slow, but works on my 7T. Enough for tuning the speakers once

It can harm at max volumes, mostly the top speaker. If you constantly use max volume or close, better keep first three bands under "6.0" and turn off "Intelligent EQ" (set it to "3"), as any iEQ enables additional bass boost for speakers.
My goal was great clear sound at low-to-mid volumes.

I was searching for the possibility to enable EQ on 7t without root, but nothing really worked, until I found Dolby Atmos DAX2 app (originaly from Razer phone)... (you can find it on apkmirror - I cannot share links yet...) works pretty well... maybe someone can have a use for it too...

Great finding, thanks! I checked it too and it works
This DAX2 app doesn't sync with built-in Oneplus sound tuner though (7T at least). Any change under "Settings -> Sound & vibration -> Dolby Atmos" and EQ for any device will be overrided.
It seems Oneplus has 2-way atmos audio library access - via standard SoundTuner app (in "Settings") and Dolby itself (which can be tuned by this DAX2 app).

I updated the first post - how to fix loudspeakers imbalance and improve total quality.
Try it, now Oneplus 7T sounds perfectly

A thing about step 2 - this file is personal and keeps your headphone profiles too. Unless magisk module can change (not replace) *db file, you will have to re-tune all profiles again.
Upd: I removed attached file for replacing original db. Seemed to work incorrect even on my device (dolby turned off any effect). Manual editing still works fine.

Hey! Before finding dax3_sqlite.db i used almost the same set for global EQ (now this is "step 2"):

Thanks for the guide, my speakers sound really nice now. I have a few questions. May I know how you got the values for the speaker balancing? Not planning on doing it myself or anything, just curious. Also, with your EQ values, what are the odds of damaging the speakers at max volume?

The stock top speaker is louder (not much, but noticeably), GSMArena also mentioned that. Stock EQ values ("Step 1") remind me random earthquake graph, for example bottom speaker gains:
-219,-16,68,-16,-16,0,9,-11,9,-16,52,9,32,-16,-46,4,-11,12,38,-16
So I reset them all to neutral ("0"), add little bass except lowest/highest bands (speakers can't produce 46/20000 Hz). Then made bottom value set +32 higher ("+2 db"), it sounds ok for total balance (no precise measurements with mic). After I adjust global EQ based on this neutral setup ("Step 2").
Curious can also find more hidden fields to tune like bass boost, headphone optimization in the "dax_sqlite3.db".

Good odds with extreme gains and constant max volume. I mean "step 2" (global EQ), no harm with "step 1" only.
On my experience all gains below +6 db are save, no distortion. One can decrease this to +4...5 db for sure safety.

Bluetooth audio level on car radio

Ok, audio via phone Bluetooth connection question.
I recently exchanged my Samsung Galaxy S9 for a OnePlus 7T, and I notice that with the new phone, I have to play music on my car radio (Kia Forte) at a higher level of sound. Sound quality is good though. Has anyone had a similar experience, be it an Android or an iOS phone? Thanks!

I've been trying to work this out myself.
I moved from a Galaxy S8 to a OnePlus 7t and I stream my music via Bluetooth to my JBL Charge 4; I have been feeling like volume has been a lot lower and bass is just not there like it was on the S8. But then I had been flicking between Spotify and Deezer on my S8 so that could have contributed to the confusion as the volumes levels differ a bit on there too.
I'm on 10.0.9 (Stable - EU) and believe it to be quieter and lacking in comparison to Samsung :/

Try dolby atmos equalizer and you can feel the difference of volume boost and audio quality had same problem on my car with sony BT stereo but with that app it's a lot better, give it a try.. You can find it under "oneplus 7t themes apps and mods"

My T-Mobile 7T has the Dolby Atmos equalizer option, and it does help with sound quality, but not overall loudness.
Also, I tried this on my OP, and it more or less helps with a bit louder sound, but not as loud as the Samsung.

Yes the apk.. to get it working properly you need to disable the in-built one, either via adb or disable application app (root)

I'm curious did you make an xda account just to start a thread to ask a question? I've noticed everyday now that about 20 people a day start new threads and I wondered why. Xda was developed for people who are into development and want to flash Roms and root their phones.
To answer your question it should you need to turn on developer options and search for Bluetooth codecs. I don't have my Poco f3 yet I just ordered it today otherwise I would tell you how to turn on developer options but it's usually go into settings find your build number and tap on it 7 times and it'll say turned on developer options. I believe the poco f3 is in settings find your MIUI version number and tap it 7 times and then find additional settings and you'll see developer options now. Look for the Bluetooth codecs but here's the bad news. You can only use them on headphones that support the ldac codec the system will over ride your settings and use the headphones settings. Good luck

I'am in developer mode since the first day I have this monster phone. Yeah, it's a beast!
In developer mode, the LDAC codec among others is there but It doesn't mean that poco f3 can use it. Sometimes we found in developer mode options or settings that are not usable because they are not still finished and need a final touch in a future firmware upgrade. The POCO F3 has support for AptX HD codec (see specs) but it isn't avaible today. We will have it in a future flash.
My earphones are the Anker Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro, and they have LDAC Hi-Res codec. All I need now, is a music provider (like Tidal) with hi-res audio streaming service and if the POCO F3 has really the LDAC codec support..... BOOOOOM!!!
Finally, I found elsewhere, LDAC codec is present in any phone that support Android 8 or later. Don't now if is true but I place my bet

Hi, according to my experience of using Sony WH-1000XM3, Redmi K40 supports LDAC, which should be the same model as POCO F3, but I didn't have a chance to try if it support Hi-Re audio. Hope my experience will be helpful to you.

What? Poco F3 have support for aptx-hd and also for ldac... If you have a Earphones that support these codecs you can use It and all working fine!

If you have a decent pair of earphones Sony that support ldac..

LDAC works perfectly fine both on Arrow os and worked as well before I switched on miui.

Yes... I activate LDAC, I just bought sony Wf1000xm4 earbuds and i figured it out, It take me hours, Hehe! But it is still ldac, i try to off Bluetooth and on, paired, unpaired and its is still Ldac...

If you force it on via developer options or, in the Android Bluetooth settings, it will only use "Best Effect" LDAC at 360 kbps, which apparently has less clarity than SBC. If you try to set it to "Optimised for Audio Quality" in Developer Options, it just reverts straight back. I ran Bluetooth diagnostic software on my phone and, LDAC was not listed as a selectable codec.

before, but LDAC work perfectly with my Soundcore Life Q35 and if I choose "Optimised for Audio Quality" stays on Audio Quality. I use Apple Music lossless audio.

I think I found a way for Android with the Sony XM4, I am not completely sure because I did not have an app to measure the bitrate but there is some clues that shows it works. I use the french app so the name of parameters could be bad translated.
1. You need to download the Sony Music Center App (it is an app different from Sony Headphones Connect).
2. Connect your headphones to your phone with bluetooth.
3. Go to the Sony Music Center App. You will see your heaphone in the list of connected device.
4. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and click on Parameters.
5. Click on bluetooth parameters and click playback quality
6. Choose priority to quality
You can check that the maximum bitrate is set by default by looking at the developper menu in android parameters. If you look at it the LDAC codec automaticaly toggle to 990kbps.
I advice you to restart your phone after that.
However, you need to reopen music center to reactivate 990kbps mode everytime you reconnect your headphone.

Question Can you improve the sound of the speakers / emulate Huawei's "Stereo+"?

I recently got a S21 FE and while I'm pretty happy with it, I feel like the speakers are far below acceptable.
Up until now I owned an, by now 5 years old, Huawei mate 10 plus. It was a middle class phone with normal speakers - nothing fancy. However the sound quality is still much better. It got some "Stereo+" setting that only activates in landscape + certain volume but it improves it a lot.
Since there is no additional hardware build into it, it has to be done by software. Is there a way to get a similar effect on Samsung phones? I tried the build in equalizer but it didn't do much nor did it really improve things.

I recently got a S21 FE and while I'm pretty happy with it, I feel like the speakers are far below acceptable.
Up until now I owned an, by now 5 years old, Huawei mate 10 plus. It was a middle class phone with normal speakers - nothing fancy. However the sound quality is still much better. It got some "Stereo+" setting that only activates in landscape + certain volume but it improves it a lot.
Since there is no additional hardware build into it, it has to be done by software. Is there a way to get a similar effect on Samsung phones? I tried the build in equalizer but it didn't do much nor did it really improve things.

Could you explain why not? I do not need the exact feature, I just want a similar sound which should be possible with equalizers or something similar, or not?

Codecs , replacement and tweaks like this I know. Equaliser settings not enough https://github.com/Briclyaz/NLSound_module_QCom example

In the settings for the tone:
Switch off "Dolby Atmos"
Set the Equalizer to "Jazz"
Like this you will have a much more warm speaker sound.

Additionally you can try Poweramp Equalizer from google play store. It's got a load of features for the equalizer.
