s20 plus or s20 ultra or wiat for note 20 ultra - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

I am thinking about buying a Samsung as I can't get along with the oppo I bought
I use a phone for
Watching films
Photography (portraits and macro plus scenery and wildlife).
Day to day emails etc
I have read some stories about issues with the ultra and the photography lock issues but the 10 x zoom looks amsizng
Which would you go for based on your experience
Have they fixed the photo lock issue with software update
Can you be honest as I don't want to make mistake in my new phone
Can't decide whether to wait for the note 20 ultra
The prices I'll pay as I get blue light discount through Samsung are
S20 plus £849.14
S20 ultra £1019
The note 2p ultra will probably be full retail price as the discounts don't kick in for ages
Thanks in advance
Chris

In UK is exynos 990... unless we have a surprise on 5th August, so I would skip Samsung in this 2020, you get over heating, throttling and camera issues, plus the usual bad battery management.

What are the camera issues
I don't tend to be a big gamer and just use my phone normally
Camera is really important to me however

The macro still not working perfect, and the focus also, maybe in Note20 comes perfect with new macro lens and laser focus. Anyway... battery drain and heating issue even seeing movies too long time you can count on that with exynos 990.

Not in my experience. I get fantastic battery , easily 7 or 8 hours SOT with my exynos. I have no issues with the camera either. I'm no photographer but it does more than I need it to.
No heating issues either only while charging :good:

On ultra exynos? With 120hz screen? One call and 30min play per day maybe? 8 hours sot and recharge every 12 hours maybe [emoji1787]
It get better with updates but some are hardware issues... only changing the SoC configuration witch Samsung recognize and will do next year.

Rumor has it the Note 20 Ultra release will be delayed and have a 50X Zoom, not the 100X found in the S20 Ultra. Likely it will feature an Optical Zoom up to 10X then a Digital Zoom at higher magnification levels. Having spent time as a professional photographer I doubt most users would be able to identify whether a photo was taken by an S20 or a Note device, both have all around good cameras. Will there be minor improvements in the Note 20? Probably but we'll also see software updates which will improve the S20 cameras. I wouldn't consider the Note 20 and S20 Ultra`s pocket phones, they're both very large devices with big displays. Prices are a significant consideration as well. The S20 Plus is available for $800 USD, S20 Ultra is around $1,000 USD. Rumor has it the Note 20 Ultra will come in around $1,300 USD. Also you'll save money and get a better SoC if you buy a Snapdragon powered International Variant. Lastly, would you use the S-Pen? If not it's difficult to justify holding out for the Note 20 Ultra. Wait for Samsung's Unpacking Event in a couple of days and you'll have a clearer picture for which device suits you best.

That's brilliant thanks I am on oppo find x 2 pro but am returning it to amazon tomorrow I've found certain annoyances the only good point really is 120mhz refresh even on qhd plus.. And charges zero to 100% in 38 mins... But annoyances like not being set ring tones for contacts without a faf... And the software isn't as refinded as Samsung

for me my opinion , i switch from n10+ to s20 ultra specially after all leaks come about n20 ultra .
why ?
for the true , i wasent use spen on my n10+ , and when i knew that n20 ultra come with battery 4500 according to s20 ultra is 5000.
another reason : refresh rate 120 with fhd for n20 ultra not qhd ...so same refresh rate on my s20 ultra .
i got my s20 ultra for 1000$ and its less than 300$ for upcoming n20 ultra .
another reason and that the special reason and important one : n20 ultra will come with exynos 990 same s20 ultra , so in my region and country no way for snapdragon .
so i will after all say , i keep on my s20 ultra that less than 1 month already in my hand.
hope i help

* S20 Ultra Exynos *
After update G988BXXU3ATG4.
heat issue is gone , its still warm 37 C after a photoshoot , but it was 44 C 47 C !!, thats not a point anymore.
normal tempature 24 C , speedcharge battery 44 minutes 34 C .
Macro is very good , not to close to object and zoom in ,its the same methode that samsung did to get a "macromode" , result is good .
Im a heavy user and i get around 7 till 8 hour battery time 90 % 20%.
only some lagg when i take photo's 108MP slow reaction ,
so price good buy it .
discussion Exynos Snapdragon ?.

I'm still debating between the s20 ultra ,iphone 11 Pro max,xperia 1 mk2
Its all the exynos and camera problems that are worrying me are they all fixed in updates like some are saying? Because I do prefer Samsung devices
Thanks

I have a iPhone 11 Pro max and the camera is OK I'm just sick of being stuck in the apple eco system and want a breath of fresh air
Re the Sony do some research that camera sounds as bad.. And it's not got 120mhz screen OK the ultra is only on full HD but 120mhz is amazing from what I've seen

I actually have the s20 ultra now and have the iPhone 11 Pro max on order so was going to decide between the two
I have the exyonos version and I don't do a lot of gaming if any to be honest (might have 10 mins on coin master haha ?)
Using the camera the phone does heat up a bit on the top front display just worries me if I keep it long term things will only get worst with exyonos and the heat
I'd hate to think in the future oh ill have a go on that game or app and the phones does nothing but throttle

Exynos for me is a deal breaker... we never know what's happening next[emoji1787] but the worst for me is the attitude of Samsung scamming exynos consumers, selling same price, and what a high price, something that don't perform on the same level than snapdragon.
Even if the average customer don't see it I think is not fair.

Is the exyonos that bad I mean I've had samsung devices for the past 5 years all exyonos I'm assuming with me been in the uk
Or is it just this generation 990 version
Seen a lot of posts that all the overheating and ceramic problems have been fixed via software is this true?
I mean if its a split second behind snapdragon then who cares lol
Thanks

It's at least since s7... for hardcore users is important. You play PUBG poorly after one hour or so... paying the same than an American that still playing good [emoji2361] the lucky of Samsung is that the average customer don't care... but with 20% less battery in s20 series even the average customer starts complaining.

To be honest I'm not much of a gamer on phones I just use it for the camera, social media, watching YouTube and movies, just some general apps like music etc
So would I be effected by the exyonos or should I not even notice
I don't think I'll ever play a game for over an hour I mean does the exyonos throttle after say 30 mins
Also mine is on ATFG HERE IN THE UK is that the lastest version with the apparent fixes?

Ooohhhhhhhh yeeeaaaahhhhhh, me 2.
Will be awesome and think or really hope it comes with 5G to, but if it don't, they make a 4G and a 5G version ofc, so it will not really be a problem i guees
Last year i heard about m20x very late.
I had my old Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra since 2016 and heard about Mi Max 3 which i bought, but it had a fake rom and i sold it after 1 month.
Then i bought the Samsung Note 8, but sold it again after 1 week, it was all to tiny for me, really... yes.
Then i bought the Honor 8X Max and around same time the Honor Note 10 came to, i bought this to and sold the 8xm again [emoji1787]. I keep the N10 for around 3 month, i really loves it and thheennnnn i heard about my baby Mate 20X L29 (636), then i bought this and one of my daughters got the N10.
But this year no Mi Max 4 and around Honor 9X Max and Honor Note 11, they will not come before next year, because they release them every second year only, so maybe it will be Honor 10X Max and Honor Note 12 instead i think.
So im happy they will release a M30X and even with a larger display, thats i like a lot.
I still dream of a Mate X phone with 16:9 format 6,8 inch in 16:9 could give us a hell of a phone... I will keep on dreaming LOL.

Yeah i was also on the big phone wagon. I started with Samsung Note 1 (was big in that time) and then bought many more big phones (don't know the time order anymore):
Samsung Note 1,2,3,4,5
Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Huawei Honor X2
Lenovo Phab
Asus ZenFone 3 Ultra
Huawei P8 Max
Honor Note 8 and 10

Don't jump to conclusions. YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7vPJYhtbAo looks more like list of wishes and speculations to me than firm confirmation of Mate 30X launch. On the other side China and the US are still in harsh trading negotiations. I think it's too early to say there will be no Google for Mate 30.

Here they say it will have Android but without the Google apps.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...unch-under-cloud-of-android-ban-idUSKCN1VI240
Huawei will be doing fine with Harmony OS. Who needs google apps when you can have all the Chinese alternative apps. No youtube? Use Youku. No Google search? Use Baidu. No gmail? Use QQ mail.
Frankly, the Mate 20 X is the best of a bad bunch, hardware wise.
The *quality* of the hardware is outstanding. Screen quality, camera quality, performance, build quality etc etc.
However the form factor is crap. All these tall devices waste so much screen area. They're crap for browsing. Crap for productivity. Crap for videos and photos.
At 7.2", the screen has 1.5mm less width than my 6.6" Honor Note 8, and about 16mm more height.
Guess what's more useful in 99% of use cases, and easier to use without thumb gymnastics? The extra width, not the extra height.
For all intents and purposes, the screen feels marginally smaller than my HN8, and definitely more awkward to use.
If a 30 X does appear. I can't possibly imagine it being less than 19.5:9 (20 X is 18.5:9), because they want as big a gulf as possible between normal handsets and the Mate X (and its coming successors). They want you to pay through the nose for usable screen width, and the marketing guys love these nominally diagonally large screen measurements that narrow aspect ones have.
19.5:9 at probably 7.4-7.5" inches ... have fun with that.

I tried making a dummy for the phone to compare the size to my note 5 and I would definitely take 7.4 or 7.5 with more smart aspect like you mentioned, either way this kind of device is for big size phablets fanatics like us, we know what we want and can handle it.
I am a big fan of mate 20X, despite of the notch on the 30x as rumours shows, i'll be waiting for the boss.....

I'd happily take a 7.5-8" device in 16:9 16:10, as you'd actually be getting useful screen area. Even if it was very difficult to fully operate one handed.
Over 7" at 19.5:9 (or even worse) ... it's just pointless. You have huge areas of unused or poorly utilised screen area, and a really un-ergonomic device - unless you have a freakishly long thumb.

I didn't buy the mate 20 x to wait and see if there is a mate 30x.
I don't want too much changes but somethings could get better like higher resolution for more clarity, better video quality / cam etc, maybe a hole bunch camera on the top left side to minimize the distraction etc or even in the middle like the note, an even bigger battery if possible ( 5000 is still awesome) 8 gigs of ram to be standard across all versions with 256 gigs.
I hope they take the pen serious this time... I love love loved the Mate 20 X but I'm being forced to consider the Note 10 because of the lack of pen functionality. Doesn't work near screen edge, short battery, can't use while charging, can't use when dead, button is useless, tip is tacky and lacks feedback, no real software support, etc. I would love to go Huawei again if they put more thought into the pen.

5G is still on hand 71 for T-mobile so if you have a Qualcomm US Note 10 plus and don't get service at work then 5G won't fix that issue yet.

I was thinking of switching but then I saw the price.
So far only talk of Ultra 5g, if there is a Ultra without 5g and a lower price I'll consider it but right now as much as I want the camera I can't justify it 6 months after buying the N10+.

If all the specs are true to current leaks then I will definitely upgrade from my Note 10+.I'm pretty stoked for a 16 gig 6.9 inch 120 hz. display and the 108mp. Camera combo.

The only turn off is When enabling 120Hz, it will set the display resolution to FHD+ / 2400×1080. I might just wait until the new note since the utilize the spen alot
idk yet, I'm waiting for a definite info on the new 3D Max fp sensor if they'd add it to the S20 or not, that's the only thing I don't like on my N10+. Other things to consider is saying goodbye to the s pen which I like a lot.
As for 5G? - am ok with LTE for now since it'll take some time(years?) for 5G to get a full implementation everywhere, right now it's just a promise for which we have to pay extra 'up front'.
Another pressing question is about that 108 mp, specifically: how will the image processing handle all that load, I hope they will make people happy with the results.
So, if not the Ultra model, for the sake of saving some bucks, what's good the S20+ brings? Right, a new SoC, 120Mhz(most of us will probably switch back to 60) and better then N10+ cameras – is that enough to get rid of N10+ and additionally shed an extra $500 - $600 for the trade? Me thinks not.
For better pics I'd rather buy the new Sony A6100(~$600)
Definitely will get the S20 Ultra....keeping my Note 10+
yup, i'll definitely be getting it. had the s10+, note 10+, note 10+ (star wars edition) and now the ultra once released. I get bored rather easily and always want the new hotness. and since the pixels have been letting me down lately, my only guilty pleasure are the Samsung phones. I hope there's a ceramic version like the s10+.
I am definitely going to get it - can't wait to see what the camera can do. From what I have read, while it is a 108 mega pixel cameara, the S20 ultra will combine pixels (four pixels) to help improve how much light is going to come in - I don't understand the specific workings of it all - but in the end, it sounds like it is going to be amazing. Camera, Big Battery, Huge Screen, no Bezels, it sounds like it has everything youi might want in a SmartPhone. Just a few weeks away, I can't wait.
I also like to get the best of the best when they come out like @chetly968. Kind of "oooh, shiny, me want!" situation but I'm not completely room over by the leaked specs. I know that it's a good upgrade to the S10/+/e range and the Note 10 range but it's like what @mzsquared said, are the upgrades worth the extra cost you'll have after trading in the Note 10+ 5G.
I'm going to watch the event and see what they say. It's usually the case that all the new upgrades in the S range get to the Note anyway in addition to extra upgrades.
It's a matter of do you want to wait, how do you use your Note 10+, do you use the S-Pen, would the experience be the same if you get the S20.
I gravitate towards the top phone on the Note range when it's launched, primarily because the Note range have more of a square body rather than the rounded corners on the S range.
I guess we'll see what they have in store for us next week.
Nope not getting it , It's not a upgrade from Note10 Plus to a S20 , basically it's a downgrade, so i won't downgrade, I'll wait for the Note11 or Note20 what ever they will call it. So for now I'll stay on my Note10 Plus, Also the Note10 Plus will still be better till i get the Note11 or Note20.

I feel like I have no reason to switch really.
It's not like getting a hopefully much better camera is going to launch me a photography career.
I really don't see any benifit when this phone is already fast, modern, and super adequate for life.
Save the money, go on a trip, cause having the latest phone is not a measurement of living life.
The performance gains will be minimal. I won't be upgrading.

Reserved S20+ anyway, now I have a few days to actually think about buying it for real, will see...
My reasoning starts with the trade value, Samsung offers $700 for my N10+, most of the Swappa's listing are right now in mid $600's(not to mention the involved hustle), sad, but that's the reality of a free market. Maybe I could settle down now with this S20+(5G though the 5G 'grid' has not been built yet around where I live)
It'll probably still suck with that same ultrasonic fp sensor I guess, am getting used to it on my N10+.
Definitely keeping my N10+ until the N20+ or whatever they call it. 120hz screen only at 1080p according to MKBHD. At least thats what he said in his video.
S20 looks ugly to me with those non curved edges, not a significant upgrade from Note 10 plus imo

that huge battery may not be as impressive as it sounds when its got to power all that.
also...some reports say ultra has a true optical zoom of 4x and others say 5x...either way i do believe the 10x hybrid optical as they call it will be optical level...seems the further digital zoom will be more useful than it sounds as it appears to have good stabilisation.
they did mention in reveal yesterday that a lot of the software improvements mentioned will come to the s10+ in updates.
also...you could buy two 65" lg ultra hd hdr smart tv's with freeview and satellite tuner built in for the price of s20 ultra*[https://b-static]*...and still have change
Sent from my VOG-L09 using Tapatalk
Sorry if this offends or seems controversial, but I can't help but surmise that people considering buying the S20 don't really need a 'Note' device anyway.
For me, in my daily life, the 'S Pen' is indispensable. No matter the features offered by any other device, without the 'S Pen', it's just not complete.
Signing and translating documents, editing media, and even typing, with my large stubby fingers, are much more efficient on a 'Note', resulting in higher productivity.
The S20/+/Ultra, whilst very good devices, on paper at least, just can't cut it for me.
So, no thanks, will wait for the Note 20?, but even then, it would probably need to incorporate all under screen sensors. So, maybe no update till the Note 21.

S20+ or OnePlus 8 pro?

I have pre-ordered S20+(Exynos), but did not get the phone because of lockdown.. as now OnePlus 8 pro lunched. Please suggest me what should I do? Cancel the s20+ pre-order & go for the OnePlus 8pro or go for S20+? My priority is camera performance..

S20+ absolutely no question. OnePlus has been putting mediocre cameras in their phones and will likely never change that. I bought into the bs that my OnePlus 6 had nearly flagship camera quality when I bought it, it sure did not. That's how OnePlus is. Solid build quality, decent hardware, tiny battery, and flagship prices now. They're not the worst phones by any means but just about every major manufacturer's flagships are better.
S20+:The phone heats up a lot, apps crash, battery life is not whats advertised. We currently do not purchase One Plus 8 Pro

You are right but I was disappointed with the S10 camera and am very disappointed with the S20+ I am actually thinking of selling my S20+ to get the OP8 Pro. The hardware in the samsung is probably better but I am just not having their software choices.
I'd buy the 8 Pro in a heartbeat. Using the S20+ and I'm disappointed with the camera.
Definitely no for S20 series exynos.
This time Samsung screwed up the s20 series with exynos cpu. We are facing one or the other problems with their cumulative updates.
So for they are not able to resolve battery life, phone overheating.
Now I believe samsung have taken for granted their fan base.
They are under assumption, the huge fan base will just buy whatever they throw at us & keep waiting with hopes that next update may resolve the issue.
Very frustrating to use s20. (was supposed to get ultra, but knowing the camera issue I skip to get base variant S20. to realize even this also have many issue).
Intermittently even on longer ph calls the phone exceed 40 deg & becomes hard to hold on to ears.
Forget about playing games or making video. Now aim forced to use the phone with 60hz and power save mode, under fear it may catch fire. Hahahah.
Really sometimes with 120hz it becomes hot pan. Quickly got to refrain from using the phone.
I really don’t understand what they have made this out off.
Been using samsung device from past 5 years.
We buy the brand on release dates with trust & faith. If this is how they show credibility.
Definitely next time got to think twice to jump in.
For sure the sales fig will make them to realize their mistakes.
Both are crazy good phones. As good as oneplus is and I loved their phones up til theb7 pro, they have some quirks I can't get past. Biggest is DEEP SLEEP. Sometimes I would wake up and phone would be unresponsive. Had to force reboot. Samsunf never has those problems. One ui 2.1 makes the software fast fluid and completely usable. Im happy with my s20 plus. It ended up being cheaper than the onepkusnhere in the US when buying with a student discount.
I think a lot depends on where you’re from, if like me uk then the oneplus 8 pro is a no brainer. I’m sure I would have kept my Samsung had it not had the exynos chip in it.
for me the decision was made when I popped to shops in car I put a YouTube video on literly 5 minutes and the phone was thermal throttling 120hz > 30hz bearing in mind its only spring in uk .. so, it can only get worse
If only the p40 pro had google :/

So the OnePlus 8 Pro camera is garbage because you have first-hand experience with it, right? Yeah ok.
I have a S20+ and I love it. However, if I needed a new phone now, I'd seriously consider the OPO 8 Pro or even the "regular" OPO 8. I haven't read reviews of the camera, but most people just need a camera to post to social media and share with friends, who will view the photos on another phone. Is the S20 / S20+ / Ultra worth the extra money? Probably not. However, Samsung is offering some great trade-in deals, which is why I traded in my Note 10. If Samsung hadn't offered me $700 towards the purchase of a S20+, I'd still be using my Note 10 and probably contemplating buying a OPO 8 right now.

I am about to eBay my S20+ for the same reasons. Love the form factor, hate the camera and Exynos shortcomings in the UK we even pay more for the inferior experience.
Have considered the P40 pro several times now, I'd mostly be totally ok with no google but it is the big exceptions like no Google Pay, banking apps and the inevitable constant faff to get other stuff working, such a shame, I'd order one immediately but for this. I have also considered more than once going back to a P30 pro, I'd still bank on the camera being better than the S20.
Re OnePlus at current prices I cannot see a reason to pick the standard 8 over the 7T Pro or even 7 Pro.
Op 7 Pro.

And it winds up costing the same if you trade in because One+ is going to offer $400 tops for the Note 10 unfortunately.

I'm OK with something that pops up as long as it doesn't mean the device has no IP rating.

Funny. Go look at the S20 forums and you will see it's not so great
maybe mi 10 pro ?
Easy. If you live in a country where you can only get the S20 Exynos variant? Go for OnePlus 8 Pro.
You live in a place where you can get the S20 Snapdragon? You ask yourself what you like best, a more stock Android experience or One UI? And then decide base on that.
Phones are pretty similar, comparing S20+ vs OnePlus 8 Pro. Both have 6.7" displays. Both 120hz. Both with great color reproduction, viewing angles and brightness. Memory and storage is great on both. Main camera is great on both, wide angle is mixed, telephoto is better on the S20+ but not by that much. Both have dual SIM but S20 has the option to one SIM and SDCard.
Phones are pretty similar on the spec sheet if buying the Snapdragon. Exynos is ****! I got one, overheats, battery don't last long enough and performance? Performance is AWFUL! Stutters here and there, and when it heats up? Phone caps at 60hz.

Mate 20X EVR-L29 in USA

I was told that the 20x no longer works with any cellphone carriers in the US but I purchased a EVR-L29 model anyways and having them shipped over here in the states because I really like the phone for media consumption. I am just wondering if there is any current owners here in the US that can confirm or deny this fact.
I'm still using mine here in South Carolina with AT&T. No problems at all.
Still using mine with T-mobile
As long as your local carrier supports the LTE frequencies the EVR-L29 transmits and receives on then you are fine. The ban on Google and Android software on new Huawei hardware doesn't effect the functionality of phones manufactured before the ban. We have still have an EVR-L29 in our household in Canada and it still gets regular OTA updates and connected fine to local US carriers while we were in Boston and New York last week. I sold our my own EVR-L29 last year and have been using a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra to get the faster 5g speeds, but the Mate 20 x is still my favorite phone and when ever I get a chance to take my wife's on the road with me.

The screen size and aspect ratio of the Mate 20 x have the Note Ultra 20 beat hands down. Whether it is reading a Kindle novel to pass time on a flight or reading articles on the internet, the Mate 20 x is just the right size for the job. Although on paper the dimensions of the Note 20 Ultra are not that much smaller, I find myself squinting a bit at the screen and often have to pinch to zoom. One advantage the Note 20 Ultra has that you wouldn't notice if you didn't switch back and forth between the models is the refresh rate. The adaptive 60 / 90 / 120 refresh rate on the Samsung product makes touch gestures buttery smooth - but I still prefer the increased screen real estate of the Huawei.

The Honor has larger bezels and a taller aspect ratio resulting in less screen than the Huawei. I haven't seen a review of its camera set up, but the Huawei is still brilliant and for sound also has aptX HD. Huawei has been good about OTA updates for the Mate 20 x, continuing to treat it as a flagship phone. Makes life easier than side-loading Google apps on the Honor.

I got rid of an S20+ because I didn't like the form factor. It's just taller than much lighter phones that have the same width. Pointless to get a tiny width phone like Note 20/21/22 Ultra phone - they are all the some width just some are taller and heavier. There is no use of the extra vertical space. Only reason for S22 ultra is for 1TB, but it's sold out anyway, and you can't root it for US version, and it's $1400 which is ridiculous, and you can't get the international yet, and still it's just a massive phone but not any wider than much lighter phones, defeating the purpose of making it heavier, they just make it taller and taller, soon we will have one that looks like a yard stick, thin and way too tall. They won't learn.

It's not strange. The resolution is much lower and so is the refresh rate. half the refresh and half the resolution makes it a 4x smaller screen to power, despite being a larger screen, so this gives the screen up to 4x battery life in that general example.
Hey, so I don't mean to hijack the thread, but ATT turned off their 3G network earlier this week and I can no longer make or receive calls on my EVR-L29. Just wondering if anyone had found a workaround to this issue. Are there any other Huawei phones of a similar size that will work with VoLTE? I also thought of another possible workaround by porting my ATT number to a Google voice account thereby forcing my phone to operate as a VoLTE device. I looked into it and it will cost a one time fee of twenty dollars a month to port over the number. I'm just not sure if it's going to work the way I want it to. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in once again, sorry to hijack the thread but I really don't know where else I can go to try and get some input regarding this issue.... And I really don't want to part with my beloved Mate 20X.
I have Verizon on my V30S, and I've tried a few different devices since then but stuck going back to V30S. It's still a great phone, I was just wanting a larger OLED display for reading. The Mate 20 X has it. It's the widest phone on the market.
I tried the S20+ (last Galaxy phone that has expandable storage), but I did not like it and returned it. Actually they sent me the 5G US model when I ordered the 4G international model on purpose, but since I had to return it anyway, I do not want another S20+, it's the same width as my V30, just taller and heavier, defeating the purpose.
I want text bigger on the screen which is why I want a wider phone, and there is no modern tablet that exists in that form factor with OLED, and the A7 Lite doesn't have OLED but the form factor is ok. I wish it were smaller. Debating keeping it.
But to keep this Mate 20 X I need to root it. A device that is not rootable has no use to me. There are too many essential things that I need root for.
As for using it on a US network, I got this phone mainly as a tablet, and I have an MVNO GSM sim that I haven't tried in this phone yet. I usually use wifi anyway, but I would need to have data to be practical to have this as a daily driver.
However, if 5G becomes a permanent thing, then because 5G gives me severe headaches, I will simply never be able to use data again, I will only use WIFI at home, and the only other essential thing I use data for is Google Maps, but I can get an offline maps app that will just just fine and when I'm in a store I can connect to their WIFI if I want to google something. And if that becomes a problem, I will change my way of life and not contact anyone when away from home, I'll keep a burner phone in my car if I have to for emergency use. That said, soon I will have to move out into the country in the middle of nowhere because all the cities have already rolled out 5G anyway.
For me, the purpose of a phone is as a media device, reading, and wifi use. I don't need cellular 99% of the time. Guess what, people used to use landlines and didn't have cell phones, and the world survived. I don't mind going back to a landline if I need that as a phone service. Smartphones I will use as computers, not cellular. My laptop does not have a cellular connection and doesn't need one. My smartphone doesn't either. It's a very minor convenience.

It is strange. The n20u has far better batt efficiency that the 20x since the n20u's software is specificaly tuned for best batt performance unlike the 20x whose software isnt geared towards such a standard. The n20u outshines the 20x in battery life. Your assessment of deriving 4x more batt life by a mere 500mah difference is very poor.

The problem with rooting it is you have to downgrade which is a pain in the ass in and of itself to say the least. Then the issue in going back to 9 is lack of universal dark mode for some apps - although most apps have that anyway. Plus, the o/s looks like outdated kit kat from ages ago and is much slower than 11.
What benefits were you expecting to derive from rooting it?

Ok, awesome. How do I downgrade? I've been trying to figure it out. My other phone is on 8.0, Android 9 is still an upgrade from that. This phone is 1,000,000 times more useful on an older OS than on a new OS I can't root.
I've written the benefits before, they are too numerous to list in a quick post, I could write for an hour about all the reasons. Almost all of them are essential to my use.
Can you help me get this downgraded?

I would say no. You get
CONS:
a smaller outer display
A smaller battery,
PROS
a tad better processor
a kinda invisible under display inner camera, which is a worse compared to fold 2.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking. Just wish the z fold 2 had a better inner screen protector like the 3 as the rubbery feeling kind of sucks on the 2. I think I will just keep the 2 and see what they do with the z fold 4 next year and then maybe upgrade to that.

You will probably be able to get a better deal on trade in, too. I managed to snaffle an au$1,300 trade in discount (~us$900) plus half price care + by trading in my Z Flip that only cost au$1,000 last year. It was a limited time offer, and Samsung often do these.

I would say no. You get
CONS:
a smaller outer display
A smaller battery,
PROS
a tad better processor
a kinda invisible under display inner camera, which is a worse compared to fold 2.

I received a used z fold 2 in pristine condition that was used for a month or less and can upgrade to the z fold 3 for $500. Is it worth the upgrade for $500?

The outer display is the exact same size on both devices. And the battery size is very close. 4500 vs 4400.
You also get water resistance and SPen compatibility.
I had the ZF2 for almost a year, and the ZF2 has been a great upgrade, well worth the money in my opinion. $500 to upgrade is a really good real, but I think Best Buy has some pretty crazy offers right now too.

I would say what's $500 worth to you. $500 isnt much to some, I spend more on dinner. So I would upgrade all day everyday. I will say that the z fold 3 is the first phone in years that I won't switch from until it's successor comes out (the Motorola RAZR back in 2004 was the last). It does everything right for me. Especially since I use the camera only once a month.
I would upgrade without question. If not just for the fact that I live in an area with bad reception and the F3 is getting much better reception then the F2 to the point where I don't have to be on wifi calling to use the phone on the F3. The internal screen is much better to the touch and definitely feels tougher and certainly not as sticky and rubbery as the F2 screen does...love the F3.

Whilst battery is 5% smaller, SOT & usage from a full charge is 25 to 30% less on the Fold3..
Definitiely a much worse battery drain on an Fold3 vs Fold2. I would NOT upgrade right now!
(I do have my fingers crossed Android 12 closes the battery life gap ... but am not holding my breath).

I've had the ZF3 since launch and yes at first battery life was terrible. All new devices are like that. Go through ANY forum here, and you'll see complaints on every single one of them about battery life at launch. ALL of them.
But it has improved and I would say it's very comparable now to the ZF2, which I owned for almost a year.
I would definitely upgrade from the ZF2 to the ZF3 given a good deal.

I had a Fold3 for 2 months and battery life was CONSISTENTLY 25 - 30% poorer than on the F2
Some Forum members point at Snapdragon 888 as a power hog. Other people have other ideas
Constant factor for me is 25% WORSE battery life.on F3 over what I had with F2
@OP Don't upgrade from a F2 to an F3 if getting a full days use on one full charge is important to you

I didn't have the Fold 2 but I had S20 Ultra and the Fold 3 battery time is better than the S20 Ultra's.

Cool yes coming from different devices will be a different experience for Fold3 upgrade
I was trying to answer the OP who has an F2 and asked if it's worth the upgrade to F3
I can only offer my experience of battery and that it has been excellent. I have about 40% left at the end of a day.
Thats with alot of spotify streaming, gps/fitbit as I use for a run, YouTube for about an hour, with Twitter and Facebook thrown in for extra.
The real question is if you didn't have the Z fold 3 and being 60 days away when the S22 Ultra/Note with Spen hits the stores is it even worth upgrading? You know many on XDA will be running to the S22 Ultra with built in Spen when it hits.
I currently have the S21Ultra and love the Note line. Saki will be Flossy will be all saying to get it when it hits.

-If- Samsung gets their sorry Note act together it will likely be in the fall of next year.
Even if that happens Android has dropped the ball twice now with Android 11 and 12.
It will be probably closer to 2 years before their scoped storage mess gets effectively implemented.

the S22 Ultra IS the Note It's called the S22 Ultra but it's just the Note with a new name. Going forward the Ultra is the Note device released with the S series.
I don't like the Android 12 myself. My S21 Ultra is flawless, was and Android 12 it's acting buggy now. Seeing a lot of people complaining about it with their Fold devices as well.

We'll see what the rabid box of gerbils know as Samsung does in the coming year.
I bought my second new N10+ 2 months ago because I like them a lot, they're a solid workhorse and don't want to deal with the multiple issues both Samsung and Android are having with their new technologies. I'm running on Android 9 and 10 with zero incentive to go beyond Android 10.
Of course it depends what's important to the individual. I've never had any major security issues even on the 2 yo Pie variant, but scoped storage would trash my freeware office app for starters.
Color rendering, good low light display usability and battery life are more important variable refresh rates. Add to that I know the N10+'s display is long lived and reliable.
5G isn't worth the power trade off as 4G gets it done and will even speed up a bit because of the 5G users reducing the pressure on the 4G bandwidth.
A faster Snapdragon and ram memory be nice but that be offset somewhat by scoped storage and forced encryption.
A SD card slot is mandatory; I need my dual drive computer.
I prefer the square display corners immensely as well as the 7mm profile with no cam hump.
Absolutely insist on a native spen, preferably on the right side and with bt remote capability.
Samsung runs hot and cold.
When they're running what you consider to be hot, grab it.
When they're cold, let Samsung hold on to it
When in doubt, wait.

Each to their own.... N10+ x2 and Android 9 and 10. on them. You are in a unique group with a membershuip of 1!
I will stick to using the latest & greates devices with the current OS & all available security patches applied as soon as released.
(like 99.9999% of XDA users I imagine)

Remember Google stopped reporting their user Android version adaptation... we know why.
Had Goggle and particularly Samsung done their job well... I be holding it

To he honest I have used Android 10 11 and 12 on many brands and devices and never had any serious issues with any of them - never ever ...
In the last 8 weeks I have used Android 12 as daily driver on Xiaomi Mi11, Google Pixel 6 Pro and S21 Ultra and all of them were stable and smooth as butter... And all with spectacular battery life over my own previous Android 11 SOT experience with each of them
That's why I'm holding onto my F3 until A12 stable is released... just to see if I can manage a full days use on a Fold3 without experiencing battery anxiety by mid afternoon
