Xiaomi to ditch android one and mi a4? - Xiaomi Mi A3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Looks like it came to an end... Link: https://www.techradar.com/news/xiaomi-may-have-ditched-the-android-one-program

Seems so. Android One was a serious project, but is not anymore as it doesn't meet its goals anymore. Shame that such big companies do it this way, unofficially.

Shame on that company WHO given work to 3rd party

With this update policy it's the right decision.
They should leave android one and stay with their miui surface.

Well Android one have strict rules on what apps OEM can install, other company might pay xiaomi that their app will be install on the device, but in Android one thats not possible.
Some ads and 3rd party ads tracker is also for forbidden to be installed by the manufacturer in android one.
Besides, with the existence of project treble, why do they need android one? ;When there's something that is free and somewhat the same thing, and yes they pay royalties to google when they install android one.

They dont need Android ONE, but some users want device with "clean" Android with garanted updates for 2 major updates.
For some users, Pixel device is too expensive so Android ONE device is almost perfect.

So that means, abandon the ship of our ****y phone, before it's too late?

Maybe, google and their pixel phones have to have, their renome.
It's theirs choice to keep Android One and GoogleGo OS'es

its clearly android one its over their enginners heads and miui its made by china government

Next WP7 OS update

So one of Microsoft's big features for WP7 over WM is that OS updates can be sent out directly by MS to all models, eliminating the previous delays from device manufacturers and operators. The great benefit here is not only for all users getting access to all new OS features, but a really important aspect is limiting fragmentation of the platform for developers. I.e. Developers don't need the huge hassle of trying to support all types of hardware and OS to get the highest number of users for their app. This is what killed Windows Mobile, and ultimately is going to kill Android if you read the story about Angry Birds.
So how about a vote? Do you think that Microsoft will hold up to the promise that they will release the OS updates to all WP7 hardware at the same time?
Will they? Who knows. But if they don't they will have effectively abandoned the smartphone market permanently because the number of people left who would believe a word they say about anything wouldn't be enough to sustain a small tech company. I can't imagine Microsoft is that stupid but they did abandon it once already.

Wasn't once, Sidekick anyone?
I think that they will update all the devices at the same time and I think that all of the new WP7 devices have a good amount of sales and so they should update all of them.
I don't think you will see updates all at the same time, i think you will see them based upon carriers and headsets but "Around" the same time. I don't think MS would want to push an update all at once unless its just a core update and doesn't impact carrier requirements or device specific issues.

I think you raised 2 interesting points there. Say there is a device specific issue, does the manufacturer submit that to MS for inclusion in an update to that particular device? What if they don't bother? What if MS make a new feature in the OS that requires a new driver from the device manufacturer? If they don't bother then its deadlock, and in that case this situation is no better than with Windows Mobile of leaving all updates to the manufacturer. Personally I think MS are in big trouble here if they haven't thought this through completely...

If an OEM wants to push a device-specific update, they submit it to Microsoft and Microsoft will push it out after approval (the carrier may need to approve as well). Microsoft, of course, could potentially fix this themselves if the OEM refuses to fix it but I can't imagine that happening.
Microsoft has developed a vast majority of the drivers. Again, I just can't see Microsoft making a new feature that...
1. Relies on a driver and/or...
2. The driver isn't written by MS
They've thought this through pretty well. Some more explanation of the timing and carrier approval can be found here.

If you consider how HTC does it, they add their custom features in an app. HTC has wanted to incorporate Sense into their WP7 offerings. But MS has not allowed it. Instead they compensate by adding Sense-like features to the HTC Hub. I believe this is the extent of any customization among various handset makers.

So Paul Thurrott says that (to prevent fragmentation) if an operator/handset manufacturer blocks their devices from an OS update then they can't blog the next one and it's automatically sent out. That sounds absolutely mental!

I agree that it's definitely a bit strange. But let's just see how this works out in practice. In theory Android can get updates super fast and in theory the carriers can block iPhone updates. Microsoft is still controlling the process, not the OEMs or carriers. The carriers understandably don't want to run untested code on their networks. Microsoft is giving them the option to delay/block. If they abuse it, Microsoft could just give them the middle finger and release them directly. It sounds like the carriers are going to play ball. The ones that don't will certainly get a bad rap and could lose customers over it.
We certainly do not want the mess that is the Android update process, with Google, the Carriers and the OEM's all having a say in when updates go out!

Ugh no, Google phones get the update first and fast. As of right now Google has only one phone.
Its all the other Android phones that have this problem with OEMs, and carriers.
WP7 will be just like the Nexus One. All WP7 devices will get updated regardless of carriers. If your carrier wont allow the OTA update then just connect to Zune.
I also think the updates will be regional.

That's the kind of crap that killed WinMo for me. Three times with three different phones I ran into the problem of video "tearing". Three times I emailed Microsoft support, HTC support and AT&T support about the problem and three times they were all content to point fingers at each other. Microsoft says it was a problem with HTC's drivers. HTC says it was a problem with the carrier not approving whatever updates and AT&T says if you want to solve the problem buy this new phone. And I did that twice to find the latest and greatest had the same problem, no one actually did anything. What was worse was finding updates on HTC's site that I couldn't apply to my phone because they were tied to particular carriers and my carrier, of course, wasn't one of them. The worst kind of planned obsolescence. That was when I said the hell with WinMo and bought an iPhone and all that garbage went away. When it had a problem, I went to Apple. Period. Updates came from Apple. Period. And they've only recently stopped updating the original iPhone after how long? Apple cut out the carrier for a reason and has set the bar that Microsoft should at least have the decency to meet if not exceed if they expect to be taken seriously.

I agree things were safer for users with the Nexus one, but they've stopped selling it now for whatever reason. I'd love to find out why they decided to do that because that model was a major advantage. All new Android users are going to hit this issue which is what killed WinMo as stated by markgamber.
Also you can't really say what will happen with WP7 because it remains to be seen what will actually happen when its update time. Actually it won't be until the 2nd update we'll find out if people with the old models are screwed over. It'll actually be less of a big deal if Microsoft take 1 year between OS updates because most users will want new hardware anyway, however it could still be a major disaster if manufacturers blame MS for pushing out an untested OS upgrade that breaks thousands of phones. I expect there will be some exemption like hardware of over 2 years old does not get upgrades from MS, that would get them off the hook slightly.
I agree that Apple is great for the consumer, if there is any problem Apple fix it, they control the whole experience, anything you buy on the app store will work on hardware up to 2 years old. However for developers its not such a great picture. The app store just breaks even, Apple aren't interested in app developers being successful, they only built the app store because jailbreaks were doing it anyway, previously they only planned for javascript web apps, and if anyone tries to do anything innovative outside the restrictions of the SDK their app gets banned and they get threatened their developer account will be cancelled. However there was a some money to be made by some lucky people, and everyone else made at least more than building windows mobile apps in the old days. Anyway Apple make all their money from the hardware they don't need to make money from some 3rd party dev making a good app. Google also don't care about developers, the market place is terrible and its widely known that devs with apps on both platforms get like 0.3% of their sales on Android. But as with Apple, Google don't care about the developers either. With Android, Google attract phone manufacturers by offering an OS for free, which they used to need to pay MS $30 per license or whatever. And by having tons of phones out there, Google make a ton of cash from the ads in the built in apps google search, and google maps. They have no need to support developers, and if the platform becomes fragmented they don't care because as long as they sell more phones they make more money.
It remains to be seen what the point of the WP7 marketplace is to MS. My friend has the #1 shooter app and sells 1 a day so MS will be running the store at a loss. And if they need to give WP7 away for free to compete with Android for traction there really is no hope.
You guys bring up some really great points. I am starting to think that the reason Apple stayed with At&t had something to do with updates.
To hopefully add on to this great discussion I think that the US carrier market is in for a real change soon. Every day I see prices coming down and carriers having more and more of the same features. Once carriers are handing out the exact same features it might not be that big of a deal to have MS release all updates. Other countries are way more competitive with their carrier choices and I think US will have to evolve because users demand it.

Just a bit of a correction:
iPhone stayed with AT&T on the domestic market, it is deployed across various providers on the international market.
To be honest I'm very curious about the update process. It's not true that all WP7 devices have got the same features. At the moment I've got HTC Trophy on Vodafone and HTC HD7 on O2. The same system but different search providers in IE, different regional keyboards available, different system languages, different settings for adding email accounts etc.. So it seems like every phone has carrier specific rom and I believe carriers would like to keep it that way. It looks like current roms are miles away from one unified rom as we see on iPhone.
Regardless of how it is made available I have heard that an update including copy /paste will be ready end Jan...

The only thing that matters is that a given program runs on all WP7 phones equally. That's where Apple currently excels and why Android has been called "fragmented". What they look like and what programs are included with a given phone on a given carrier don't matter.

They're delaying the release of the code and this has been taken way out of context.

I may be exagerating my dissapointment, but this is just so taboo for google.... In all reality a closed source android is a second class ios... And when wp7 gains more momentum android wouldnt even be a consideration for me if they continued to not release source codes....
Then again, this probably is being taken out of context... Only time will tell I suppose

If they named it TabOS 1.0 instead of Android 3.0 people wouldnt have this bizarre obsession with putting it on their phones. I for one don't want a tablet OS on my phone, it a phone OS on my tablet. Apple does it but it's dumb IMHO.

what??? 2nd class os????
and if it is "closed".. going to wp7 will be different? how so???
this just does not make any sense
This as well as the engadget article bring up the point of google not wanting the reverse of what happened with froyo and manufacturers putting it on devices it's not meant for. Google cites they want to give the best experience to the customers; which means the 99% of users who don't come to xda. Unfortunately the lack of source code also effects us who want to put hc on our phones, optimized or not -especially since the devs here would optimize it. But a flood of smaller oem phones/small tablets that aren't designed for hc would just be crap.

WP7 & iOS = integrated experiences. They are optimized for specific hardware releases and have controlled updates. Which is why a lot of people are drawn to the Nexus phones.

he is leaving because it is closed (if it is closed) .. to another closed os.. which has yet to prove itself as a contender to de-throne android.

WP7 is the most boring and silly looking mobile OS on the market right now imo. And I agree with whoever said they should rename honeycomb, because its really not necessary on phones. Gingerbread is fine.

lol. Where is the justification for anything you're saying? Did you actually read my post or just skim through the title?
The part about not being able to port Honeycomb to phones doesn't really bother me as it's not designed for phones and may not run properly.
However, the real slight in this is Honeycomb tablet owners. If I owned a Xoom, a supposed open Google experience device, I would be enraged at not being able to utilize custom roms by other developers.
This essentially makes the fact that Motorola and Google opted to not include a bootloader in the Xoom worthless.
Similarly, with any Honeycomb tablets, including the upcoming LG and Samsung varieties, you'll essentially be running closed-off systems with no chance of custom roms.
I wasn't planning on buying a Honeycomb tablet anytime soon, but this pretty much seals the deal.

The implication is that, if the open aspect is taken out of android, and all we have left to compare the three (wp7, ios, and android), for some, android would no longer make the cut. And, in some ways, I tend to agree: most of what I love about my phone depends on having root access and source code.

Here is my concern in bold for you guys who don't understand...
WHAT DOES THIS FORESHADOW FOR GOOGLE AND ANDROID AS AN OS? WE NEVER IN OUR WILDEST DREAMS THOUGHT THEY WOULD LOCK THE SOURCE CODE FOR ANYTHING WITH ANDROID OS. WHAT ELSE ARE THEY CAPABLE/WILLING TO DO?
That is my concern folks.... If you're viewing this thread or any android development forum then more than likely its because android is an open source project.
I'm sure this will still go over the trolls heads, but so be it.
3.0 is not closed!!! Google just doesn't want outside developers playing with their source code that they haven't had time to optimize for smart phones.
Basically Google is baking ice cream 2.4 and wants us to get that first. Why would they release 3.0 which is "supposedly " just for tablets when they have put time and money into 2.4 specifically for smartphones. They have phones planned to run on stock off of that. If Google releases 3.0 why would people want to buy "downgraded " software on a flagship phone. Its all just business.

I hope what you are saying is correct... at least for our sake

Is Android a mess to avoid in the future?

Since I own a Motorola Defy I feel this board is my home but if the moderators feel this post needs to be moved to another board then please do by any means.
As some of you may be aware of I've been posting my frustrations of late Froyo update from Motorola in this thread. You might not care how late and why they are late with the updates but I do because I rely on the updates to do more with my smartphone.
You may have already read that virtually there isn't any major change between Anroid 2.2 and 2.3 other than security fixes. Hello? Did you just say the majority of changes in the operating system are about security fixes? Why then the manufacturer of my handset is not ensuring my handset is safe to use then? I will try to answer this question shortly.
I don't use a smartphone for a hobby. I truly, like most of you, use my smartphone for productivity. Checking emails on the road, taking notes, instant satellite navigations, web browsing, occasional shopping, music, to read books, and document editing on the go are few to name. To do all those tasks I need to rely on a reliable network service, hardware, and the operating system that enables me to have all those software applications I need. This post is not about network services nor about hardware but I just like to say Motorola Defy has been a good phone, hardware wise, and indeed it should be able to handle Gingerbread if the 512MB RAM is not a limitation.
There are a lot of debates about mobile closed and open operating systems such as iOS and Android respectively on the internet. I'm beginning to see closed operating systems like iOS, WP, RIM, and WebOS are in fact a better choice unlike what open OS proponents have been trying to make us to believe. Ok, lets first see why Android is for free. But before that let me remind you Android is not open-sourced and in fact Google recently made it clear they are not going to let anyone see the source codes, let alone to use them (recompile). They are very public about freebies but not so public about the small prints.
Everything Google does is calculated either for a short strategy or for a long one. That is not for me to say if that is a good thing or bad. My concern is having options in the future not only for myself but also for the next generations such as your children.
Android has been given freely to handset manufacturers to build smartphones. To realise the magnitude of business opportunities Android brought to them you only need to look at the once king of mobile maker Nokia where they are today. Their out-dated Symbian OS alone did all the damage. Google is giving away Android for free to control the market in relation to their services. Dependability has always been the key factor of Google's success for as long as I remember. Google may one day even give away free handsets if that fits with their long term strategy.
At first it might appear to you Google can control the handset manufacturers since they are giving them huge business opportunities. That is far from the reality. Manufacturers also know, like most of us, why Google is giving away their OS for free and have already turned the table to their own advantage. Google recently signed an agreement with their major partners to ensure Android updates are delivered to us consumers quicker. The consumers who are vast in numbers and pay for everything are the losers in the battle of controlling the market by businesses.
In my opinion, Google has been hiding more security issues in Android than we are made to believe. They have recently covered up a serious security issue and never explained publicly how they managed to fix that other than explaining something was fixed on their server-side. I believe the problems are serious enough and if it is revealed Google’s reputation will be damaged. I have no proof as I don’t have access to Google internal documents. Admitting to Gmail security preaches that happened months ago today (3 June, 2011) is another hint that Google is not open about their security issues. Please remember, unlike your Windows machines Android does not have a built-in firewall or antivirus.
Back to the question that I asked earlier, why then the manufacturer of my handset is not ensuring my handset is safe to use then? They simply don’t want you to have the latest Android version on your handset because of their Business Model. New Android version goes on to their new handsets, at least initially. There are cases where a particular handset from a manufacturer gets all the updates. The reason behind this is that the handset in question has returned its expected profits or the handset considered as a flagship that most likely continues its pedigree. Examples of these are Samsung’s Galaxy S, Sony Ericson’s Xperia, Motorola’s Droid X. Providing updates to older flagship handsets is to keep existing customers loyal. I don’t see anything bad in this one.
I really see the advantage apple users get for not being dependent on manufacturers to get updates. The same goes to all so called closed Mobile OS. As much as it was heart breaking to hear about the Chinese boy who sold his kidney to buy iPad 2, I’m glad he didn’t buy an Android device otherwise he would have to sell something else for the software updates alone.
I already know my next phone is going to be an Android device but I will keep my eyes on the promised improvements in regards to the updates delivery and if nothing is changed then I will take my business to another company where I know I have to wait weeks not months for updates and if there is a critical security issue I don’t have to pull my battery and SIM card to protect my data.

Android Issues

I have never put much weight behind peoples comments about the Android fragmentation but the Nexus just frustrates me. I have owned everything from an Iphone, WP7 and Android phones and while all have their good and bad points I am starting to see many more bad for Android. I have moved from a GSII to the Nexus mainly because of the new OS and because my provider offered it to me for free on my plan. The three main apps I used on my GSII do not work with the Nexus. One doesnt even show up in the Market and if sideloaded just crashes the other two while they install from the Market they just crash constantly. The removal of features like facebook integration all just make me wonder what Google is thinking. This is just the OS not to mention other flaws with the phone like the volume being so low you have to install an app to hear it ring and the battery life being poor.
I know there will be a lot of people who say that I should root or mod or install this or that but it just proves my point. Apple and Wp7 just wor fork the most part and despite their limitations usually work well. The Lumia series of WP7 handsets get released in a few weeks in Australia and I think I will be going back to WP7 the three apps I use daily are now available for it, it has awesome facebook integration and it looks sexy too. Everything I need or want in a phone right now.
Sorry Google but you have lost me for the time being. I may be back but for the time being I think I will be happier elsewhere.
The Nexus-series devices are geared towards developers, hackers, and other enthusiasts who not only don't mind mucking about with adb but actually prefer it. Not wanting to "root or mod or install this or that" doesn't prove your point - it proves that you bought the wrong device.
The GSII is marketed towards normal consumers. Google stripped out Facebook sync on the Nexus device - that's because of a beef between Google and Facebook. Samsung (I believe) leaves it in on the GSII. Because they are less concerned about being "pure Android" and more concerned with selling a solid product that consumers will like to use.
It's not Android's fault that some developers haven't updated their apps to be compatible with the latest version of Android and the latest hardware specs. Contact the developers of those apps that you can't live without and see what it would take for them to make the app compatible. If they don't know there's a demand for it, they may not bother updating it.
If that's not good enough, I'm sorry. Maybe Android isn't the right fit for you. *shrug* It sure is for me.

Very well put.
I have yet to run into one of my apps that doesn't work in ICS.
It really sounds like the OP bought the wrong phone for themselves. See if you can return it.
?
The Nexus I got from my phone provider to be used as my primary phone. It wasnt sold as a developers device or for hacking. Its a consumer device sold to the consumer market. You may buy it for the sole purpose of modding or hacking it but that not what Google sells or markets it as.
Why do I have to have a pretty common feature removed because of a beef between two companies. This was googles descision (probably to boost their google+ service) and it only hurts the end user. Your right no other phones have had it removed.
And your last comment is exacty what I was saying. People who bought an app on an Iphone 3 can still use the app on a 4S and so far the same with WP7. Its a pain that every time an update comes out for Android that it may "break" an app I use.
I absolutely love my Galaxy Nexus. I just loaded on AOSP Kang Milestone 3 and it has literally every feature I had wanted since I bought the phone. I get great battery life, and the UI is so efficient. I wish there was a better camera, and I could go for a 3300mAh battery like the Droid Maxx, but it's still ****ing AMAZING the way it is.

The removal of features like facebook integration all just make me wonder what Google is thinking. This is just the OS not to mention other flaws with the phone like the volume being so low you have to install an app to hear it ring and the battery life being poor.

So, you think that when Apple releases updates for iOS that it doesn't break stuff? The only difference is that developers sometimes get a longer period with the SDK for the new OS to try and fix issues compared to Android, but you really are naive if you think iOS or WP7 won't have broken apps when a new version is released.
Never have I had an app not work after an update with IOS. If thats due to the SDK being out longer then Apple is doing something right that Android isnt. I am not saying that Android isnt without merrit or that it isnt good for everyone but you must adit to the flaws. Look at the number of posts about app compatibility.

And who is to blame for app incompatibility? Is Google supposed to stop developing the operating system why every **** and Jane with an application updates their apps to work? It's not Google's fault that developers and companies don't update their applications. You are also looking at probably one of the biggest changes in the Android OS since it started with Honeycomb/ICS, so some things have to be completely re-written which takes time.
There may be flaws with the platform, but there are flaws with everthing. At least with Android, then end user can fix them if they want to, good luck doing that on BB, WP7, or iOS. Also, just because you haven't had an issue with iOS doesn't mean there aren't problems with apps. Then again, I guess it doesn't take much to get your phone to play a fart sound...

1. The Nexus is a developer tool.
2.Why would Google not want to boost their own products such as Google+? I'm sure if I had a beef with a certain person or company I wouldn't support their product either. Would you?
3. You're right about the iPhone apps. As long as the developer updates to optimize performance with the new iOS. That's a lot of the problems with the apps I used on my Captivate vs. using on my GNex.
If I recall correctly, the reasons Google gave for dropping Facebook support were more about Google's fundamental philosophy regarding the open and free exchange of information. Google lets your bring your information to their service, and you can then take your information away and put it elsewhere. Google was fine with you sharing information from your Google account to your Facebook account. Facebook is more one way - you can bring your information and contacts in, but you can't take that information anywhere else. You could import your information from Google into Facebook, but Facebook will not allow you to export Facebook information to Google. This is the reason Google stopped supporting facebook sync.
its amazing how defensive people get when you give opinion or coment about fault with something they own.
Fact remains (no matter what the reason) Google removed the facebook feature which only hurts the end user. If Apple or anyone else did this you would be all up in arms saying how much better Android is for being so open. HAHA
No matter how you look at it there is compatiblity issues between versions of Android which there arent any (apparently) to IOS or WP7 users. Example... Plants Vs Zombies. I have owned it on al three platforms and on IOS or WP7 I have never had an issue with it working as it should. On my Android phones its breaks between versions. On my Incredible S the zombies would walk off the screen on centain versions. It doesnt run at all on my Galaxy Nexus.
I accept that the average XDA user can fix his or her own issues with ANdroid but the users here are a VERY VERY small percentage of users and for the average user Android isnt as user friendly or stable as the other two.
Since you chose the ignore the same thing on iOS, and also the fact wp7 hasnt seen a major version update.
Go back to those devices, bye
Erm... thanks for your opinion, we're all entitled to one. Stick with your iPhone or WP7 device then mate.
Morale of the story here is that providers will try to sell you what they 'think' you need without asking you.
They don't always listen when they do ask and they certainly don't get it right 100% of the time.

I agree with pretty much all the comments made here about android.
This is the biggest change android has made to its OS since its birth so certain 3rd party apps will be broken until the developer of the app pulls his finger out and makes it comaptible again. This isnt googles fault.
I dont agree with the statement of the nexus being a developer phone however.
If it was a developer phone and google wanted you to root it and flash custom roms it wouldnt break your warrenty would it.
I had a galaxy s before my galaxy nexus and i flashed literally hundreds of roms onto that phone and OC it and all the rest... Thats not because thats what samsung wanted me to do.
Google have reinvented android and tried to make it consumer friendly.
There isnt a label on the galaxy nexus for the average user that says dont buy this phone unless you plan on flashing custom kernels and roms onto it.
The galaxy nexus is an amazing phone and i personally plan on leaving it stock as long as i can because i really dont think theres too much that needs doing to it that warrants voiding my warranty and risking bricks etc.
Back to the point... Yes if you dont like the phone then dont cry about it, just sell it and buy a windows phone. Why come here complaining? What do you hope to gain?
Maybe you should have tested the phone and done some research before you upgraded.
The Facebook problem is entirely Facebook's fault.
Android provides an API to synchronize contacts. 3rd party apps can add metadata to those contacts (picture, phone number, email, status updates, etc...). These metadata are then available on your phone.
But Facebook thinks they own your data so instead of using the proper API, they do it in a way to prevent you from exporting that data. For example they don't want you to be able to have a list of your friend's emails or phone numbers through Facebook.
Remember the first time you used Facebook? There were options to find friends using a contact list (CSV, email provider, MSN, GMail contacts, etc...). This is exactly what Facebook wants to block from the competition and one of that platform is Android.
There's a reason the Facebook app on the market has 3.5 stars only. It's rarely updated, slow and full of bugs. And they don't seem to listen to users. All they do is copy others because they are paranoid about ending up like MySpace. Their latest copycat is "Facebook Messenger" which puts an icon right next to Google+ messenger with the name "Messenger" as well.
So instead of blaming Google who removed the "backdoor" Facebook used (adding fields to the contacts database directly and causing a mess if you removed the Facebook app then) write a complaint to Facebook. They'll happily ignore you because they don't care about what their users wants.

Google shouldn't be responsible for your screw ups regardless. If they did warranty hard bricks and other software errors, they'd be out of a lot of money. As you still see today, there are several people on here that brick their phone(or at least think they did) because they can't read ahead of time. Now why should Google be liable for that?

True, it's just sad that everyone keep begging xiaomi for Android 10 update, seriously.
They should have appreciated on what xiaomi offers with this phone at this kind of price like good display, build quality and superior cameras! You are getting what you payed for.
I mean... if they, or you, really love Android 10 flavouring their A3, just grab a big selection of Android 10 custom ROM from our community, its way simpler than keep doing that. I know they may have bugs but they like Android 10 because of these... Dark mode, gesture navigation, privacy control, etc.
Now if they, or you decide to keep on begging xiaomi for Android 10 update, by all means go ahead! But this won't speed up their (xiaomi dev) development. Simple common sense, isn't it?
I strongly disagree with you, how does Xiaomi have enough resources to build MIUI 11? In fact Xiaomi has also released MIUI11 based Android 10 updates, if they have enough resources for them then they definitely work on Android One phones too.
Another thing: The reason Android One phones are supposed to get updates faster is manufacturers don't need to modify the OS much as compared to their own flavour (MIUI).
If they don't have enough resources they should not produce a Android One phone at first place. The MI A3 community is not being impatient, the update is quite late already, clearly there is no benefit of this phone having Android One program.

They surely don't have as much income from Android One opposed to MIUI, which is their brand. Of course they are not working as hard on it and the teams working on MIUI are definitely bigger. The number of phones that got Q is really handful compared to Xiaomi's lineup and those that did got an update, cost a lot more than this device. THAT is whole point.

Well, I'm not sure about mid-range devices which have received Android 10 update, but If you go to Android One's website, their title says "Secure, up-to-date and easy to use", but unfortunately our devices have been outdated for quite a while now. Simple.
But yes, we can't do anything but to wait.

Outdated? We have patch from 5th December and we're in the middle of January. Sounds pretty up-to- date to me. Don't confuse the latest Android version with the latest security patch - Android One is primarily about monthly security updates. 2 Android version upgrades are a nice bonus, but with no guaranteed time frame when is it going to be received.

First of all, it was never said on the Android One page nor the Mi A3 page that the updates will be immediate.
Secondly, building and polishing an Android update to maybe millions of devices costs money and time. I'm not saying that we will get a bug free update, but something probably close to. You can't expect from a company that releases new phones every month with minimal profit margins to push updates so fast. Some flagships still didn't get the update, but their price was 2 or 3 times bigger. You get what you pay for. Appreciate that you have a really nice phone for nothing basically.
Lastly, that behavior is cancerous. Being angry at a company for not fullfiling all of your expectations is your problem. Rather than spamming groups and whatnot, spend some time finding phones that suit you better or find devs that you can donate to. Send them a dollar or two so that they can pay their building servers and drink coffee while removing bugs with no logs.

Apple motorola xiaomi.
This phone has easy to unlock the boot loader and a bunch of custom ROMs. Go over to the other forums for other phones. It's crickets on the dev side.
Clean Android: good. If mi 9 had it I would jump on one. A month or two delay over the life of the phone is not a huge deal.
I have used 2 Android One phones recently. And they were soo cheap phones. Now I have the Mi A3 and this phone is more expensive than the others. (In Android One category)
And these phones updated very fast. Beta tests begin 1 week after the beta release for Pixel phones. So Android One program means an early update to me. If the update will be late why did I bought this phone?
But there is a point to mention. Another android one phone that I have purchased at the same time with A3, didn't receive Android 10 eighter. There could be a problem with the Google maybe?

Nokia 7.1, motorola one action
It’s just a typical way of thinking of those who had very few or even no knowledge about how programming and the software development process works…
Keep dumping pressure to devs only makes things worse.
It's like torque down the wheel nuts without even using a proper torque wrench; imagine if a guy was hurrying tightening down the nuts by bare hands. The wheels nuts can be loosened up and fall off the car! How safe would that be? Same applies for software development, if they rushed for an update, it can be buggy as hell, who knows!
So “Patience” is definitely the key, I had the same experience with A2 last year, where people just kept begging for Android 9 update. Xiaomi rushed, and pushes out buggy update like battery drain, inconsistent UI, and more severe, bootloop in its Jan update. Now, A2 got android 10 update doesn't mean it is better, it can have bugs like UI, bluetooth, slow charging bugs. It's a last major software update for A2, Xiaomi can rush the update, can't they? I know in Xiaomi website it said "Android one provides up-to-date software experience", but there's the fact that nothing is absolute. The update can be delayed for whatever reason.
The A3 is a cheap, budget, yet mid-range phone and people still want to interpret it as a “flagship” phone. Although this is an Android One phone, Xiaomi still need to fix bugs and add their own custom features. That would generally take some times for the completion, that doesn’t even count for fixing various bugs. Even though Motorola, Nokia phones get Android 10, it’s just depends on certain devs. They can be more productive than us.
Even more surprising, when Xiaomi india replied a tweet at twitter saying that android 10 will arrive on mid-Feb. People are screwed... they f**k Xiaomi and said that they won’t buy their phone again. Well, I feel quite miserable on why are people so impatient and complaining so much, seriously.
That is all I want to say, and I don’t want to dump any more time in this weird tragedy. If you disagree with me, feel free to blame, swear, or report to me. But the Fact that 'the arrival of Android 10 has no exact date' is going to Never change! So please, stop complaining about the update.
Thanks Captain!

From my point of view thinking of that mi A3 has some type of priority is as foolish as of believing that this extra time (Chinese New year) will mean a more polished and refined rom.
I think someone should learn what Android One means before starting to make a thread.

Thats completely untrue. Xiaomi have made alluded to faster android upgrades for their Android One phones. And sometimes even made direct statements on that issue - one statement was from Manu (India's VP) saying "Mi A3 is going to be one of the first few devices to get Android Q".
After all the hype about faster updates from their fanbase, now you've amazingly said Xiaomi never promised anything at all! How very Trumpian of you.
And now you've made some more incredible statements like Xiaomi is only producing Android one phones because they have to, not because they actually want to, and Xiaomi don't make any money at all on these phones. No facts, no figures, just an outright assertion.
Customs roms are nice but it has no bearing on this issue. These roms are generally not vetted, tested, checked to see if they are stable and free from malware.

Bro, would like to disagree with you here. If in the end we have to choose a custom rom, then why would I buy an Android One device. I could simply buy a MiUI based Xiaomi device and simply install custom rom (Probably that's what the Xiaomi wants). The other reason people prefer Android One device is to get rid of complications a custom rom develop.
Secondly, there's no hiding away from the fact that update is delayed for whatever reason may it be. Both the parties are at fault, I agree lots of people are baby shouting about Android 10 but the fact is and will be is that the update has been delayed. And for this no one is blaming developers. I always respect the developers. They work behind the scenes without getting applaused. But the anger of people is over Xiaomi not the developers. The fact is people showing here as if they care for developrs are actually diverting the company's fault to developrs. Xiaomi aren't focusing on Android One with majority of developers assigned to MiUI. And this device is not the one which has been sold less. This is one of the best selling phones. It offering a lot at this price.

Typical non-committal language - just consider how many vendors and devices are out there - if the Mi A3 gets Android 10 in March 2020, it might very well be part of the "first few devices". In short, there is no reason to assume Mr. Manu wasn't being truthful at the time of tweeting this (back in Aug 2019). That is what he was led to believe then.
Xiaomi should be a bit more open about the roadmap/update progress, to ease everyone's mind.
