ADB wont recognize my HTC M8 (no devices error), cant sideload a rom, please help! - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there.
I have tried several custom Roms this in the past (5 years ago) and everything worked fine and then reversed it and put back the original rom. Now I need this device for a backup and wanted to try the latest Lineage 17.1 ROM I have soft briked my device. Since I´ve wiped my data I dont have a ROM to boot to.... :crying:
When following this Lineage installation guide https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/m8/install I am stucked on the ADB Sideload procedure.
Every time I try the "adb sideload filename.zip" command I get the "no devices/emulators found" warning.
I have the latest TWRP (3.4.0.1) for my device, i tried installing HTC M8 drivers, Google ADB drivers, HTC Sync, nothing works, I can seem to make TWRP to connect to my PC.
Can someone please help me?
Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem a few days ago, and uninstalling HTC Sync and HTC drivers from my PC solved it for me.

Hi folks,
can someone helps me? i'm having the same problem and i'm on this since 11 hours and nothing that i do make the adb sideload work. I have my Htc one m8 since it was out on 2014 and never root it. I manage to root it with the lineage installation guide because i didn't know anything about rooting. Now root is done, and twrp-3.5.2_9-0-m8 the latest version is intalled and i'm stuck on the command 'Sideload the LineageOS .zip package': it seems like the device is not found. This is the message that i got.
adb server version (31) doesn't match this client (41); killing...
error: failed to read response from server
* daemon started successfully
adb: sideload connection failed: no devices/emulators found
adb: trying pre-KitKat sideload method...
adb: pre-KitKat sideload connection failed: no devices/emulators found
I have unnistall HTC Syn and its drivers many times then retry than reinstall them then retry but nothing work. My device is found and its sd card when i'm not on ADB sideload on TWRP. This is making me crazy!!!! I'm on windows 7. Thanks if someone can help

FINALLY!!!!
i manage to make the installation working!
Lineage team need to explain more precisely the installation process by giving where is needed some examples and give some other alternative methods. All the people don't understand the geecky language so you need to think like end users like us who didn't know anything about coding, command prompt expressions ect.... For exemple here:
"5 - Flash recovery onto your device:
fastboot flash recovery <recovery_filename>.img"
I thought doing this command " fastboot flash recovery <twrp-3.5.2_9-0-m8>.img " instead of " fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.5.2_9-0-m8.img " anyway...
For those in the same case like me in the future, the "adb sideload" stage didn't work for me. After some resarch sideloading is not nessessary. Just move or copy the LineageOS and Gapp into your phone or sd card then in TWRP choose install and select the files were you have put them and they will be installed like normal installation.
ADB Sideload stuck at 47%
Hi all I'm starting to suspect that the partition my recovery uses as temp storage is full. It gets stuck in the flashing process, I just tried side-loading with adb and it is now stuck, and has been for 1 hour. Latest message from ADB says...

[Q] Stuck in recovery with Fastboot and ADB failure

Hi,
First of all I'd like to say I tried to look this up in the forum but since my problem is kind of a combination of several problems, I failed to find a proper solution.
I have a rooted galaxy nexus running 4.3 deodexed. I downloaded a Mod to flash in CWM Recovery. Did a flash and factory reset and as I tried to flash it, it gave an error and aborted the installation and since then I can't get the phone out of bootloader. I can enter recovery mod from there however, I can't boot the phone.
Unfortunately I don't have a stock rom or any other zip/img/tar etc file on my sdcard.
When I plug my phone on bootloader I get the error message FASTBOOT fail command
I downloaded adb drivers but when I try to use adb push command I get an error message saying "ADB is not a recognized as an internal or external command etc." I'm doing this on the folder where extracted adb files.
I used to skipnote nexus toolkit. But even though I can get it to recognize my phone on either fastboot or adb mode, I fail to flash / push or install anything on my phone. If I try ADB, it waits forever on waiting for ADB phase. If I use fastboot however, it gives an error message and aborts the operation.
Downloaded & installed kies on the computer. I tried ODIN to push files but I failed at that too. Seems like Odin doesn't recognize the device.
As a result, I can't use my phone right now. I'm open for any suggestions for installing a stock rom and unrooting or rooting and installing a custom rom.
Thank you all very much in advance,
solved
I used another laptop with a fresh skipnote nexus toolkit and everything worked just fine.

[Q] Help! No ROM and SD Card not Mounting?

Hi,
My friend was running an ICS version of ARHD and he decided he wanted to upgrade to Cyanogenmod 11. He first tried to install Cyanogenmod 11 but that didn't work, so he then tried Cyanogenmod 10.2 with a boot loop as the result.
I reckoned that he would need to upgrade his HBOOT to 1.36 or higher, which I have helped him do using the correct firmware for his CID. (H3G_001)
After that, we wiped everything in CWM and flashed CM's boot.img, but now the SDCard won't mount to transfer over the ROM and Gapps. Specifically, it comes up with the error: /storage/sdcard0: Shared-Unmounted
He has also tried adb but the device isn't found when using adb devices or adb shell.
When he tries to mount it, it appears in device manager as 'One' with a yellow triangle, but otherwise it just appears as unknown device.
We'd really appreciate any help as I'm no expert and there's nothing left I can do.
Thanks

Download adb drivers. Run adb devices command. If device is detected rename your rom to rom.zip. run command adb push rom.zip /sdcard/

With what you reformat them with TWRP or something else? Reformat the sd card with TWRP and try again

Stuck In soft brick

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster. Before I start, want to apologize for bringing up a regular problem. So I have a second hand one x. Last year decided to root, had a few teething problems but managed it, all was well. Then I got 'too big for my britches.' Decided to update my recovery, didn't check battery and it died halfway through. Thing wouldn't work for ages, no charging, wouldn't turn on etc. Gave it up as hard bricked. Decided the other day for some reason to try it on charger and it charged! Thought I was winning, wrong lol. Successfully flashed new recovery. Tried nandroid backups, (yes I actually did what instructed and made some, lol) seemed okay but when rebooting just kept throwing me to recovery. Then, like an idiot, stumbled across a post, (can't remember where) that gave the 'bright idea' of formating. EVERYTHING. yeah I know, idiot, right here. No more nandroid backups, no ROM. Can't flash a ROM now cos my sd card can't mount, and sideload doesn't work as when in recovery adb can't find device. Any help would be appreciated, been all over this wonderful sight and others and no fixes seem to work for me. So sorry for long post. Oh, its an international model, hboot is 1.73
Update: flashed twrp 2.8.0.0 last night, still can't sideload anything. When using command adb devices shows xxxxxx recovery, but when issuing command adb sideload filename.zip getting error:closed. This is so frustrating aaaah! Can flash any recovery no problems but since I'm unable to mount USB and sideload isn't working am unable to flash a ROM. Tried installing universal adb driver, it installed but changed nothing. Please help!
Solved!

Okay, so I did it! I will leave this here in case it helps anyone.
I deleted htc drivers then reinstalled them. Manually installed adb driver from sdk, device was recognised in adb in sideload mode! I.E. instead of saying xxxxx recovery as mentioned above it said xxxxx sideload. Successfully sideloaded cm 11 nightly I had. Rebooted recovery, installed zip from SD under sideload.zip. rebooted to bootloader, flashed boot.IMG that was inside cm11 zip, then used fastboot erase cache command, rebooted, SUCCESS! CM ROM is on and working! Thanks to everyone who took the time to write the numerous tuts etc I perused before FINALLY fixing this mess. Just downloading compatible gapps now to install. Only problem I have now is its not recognizing my sim card..... *sigh* now to sort that out.

No OS installed w/o ADB Sideload...?

Hey XDA,
I somehow 'bricked' my OP3. So there is no OS currently but I still have TWRP. I cannot transfer any files to it because when I try an error pops up on my PC saying the device isn't responding. The only other way I know of to transfer files to it is ADB Sideload but when I try that it gets stuck at the 'starting ADB sideload feature...'.
Any ideas or help please?!
Cheers

Is your phone recognised by the PC and does it respond to other adb commands?
Try eng.stk's (blu_spark) TWRP. If not successful, try the method 2 of the Mega Unbrick Guide here in XDA.

Nokia 6.1 ADB push/sideload "No Devices Found" error

Hello. I recently unlocked the bootloader on my Nokia 6.1 phone and booted a modified TWRP installation, which I used to wipe my phone as recommended here:
https://www.howtogeek.com/348545/how-to-install-lineageos-on-android/ (Step 4)
Now I only have TWRP on partition A and Download Mode.
Question is: How do I transfer LineageOS or any Zip file to /sdcard?
TWRP's ADB Sideload fails after loading for some minutes.
Doing "adb sideload lineage.zip" or "adb push lineage.zip /sdcard" will display "Error: no devices found". I can't make adb work after booting into TWRP, but it also won't work when doing this via fastboot.
I am a bit lost here and would like it if someone could help me install LineageOS on my phone or at least clear this issue.
Once tried in windows 11 I faced same situation,
But in windows 10 worked out well (but I installed Lineage Os recovery)
