Are you aware you'll probably lose device specific features ? As alert slider or 120Hz / QHD-FHD / DC Dimming etc.

Yeah I think your right . I'm not going to try it just yet until some feedback shows up

I've looked into this twrp and being the op8pro is the a/b partition like the OnePlus 6 and up there has to be a twrp installer as well . Say we had a rom to try there is a certain flashing process

You should be able to use the same technique as OxygenOS as long as Color OS uses a payload.bin file.
Extract the rom zip and check if there's a payload.bin file within, if there is then follow my guide here.
