Missing restored files - Sony Xperia 1 II Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi, i am new here, please bear with me if i posted in the wrong section, but i am desperate in need of help.
So i have taken some video files with my phone, around 10-12 of them, some are not nice so i deleted couple of them. Later around 7-8 hours later, i realised i have wrong deleted some others when i am viewing the rest via google photo on my phone. So i go to the bin folder and found those deleted files. I restored them all and the phone showed the word "restored". But when i go back to the camera folder, only 2 of the 8 restored files are there, the rest of missing, no longer in the bin folder and not restored either back to the camera folder.
Can anyone help me, please.

New Virus on FTP server

the file is called "Realone Player 11.exe" it has a size of 150,078bytes and the person who made it has no balls.
this is the message it displays
Hello! upon reading this message your computer is starting to shutdown
Your Data Link Library is going to destroy, all your files say goddbye...
Did you know that some programs are cute and stealth like this, amazing isn't it...

luck that i ran it in a VM session.
deleted all my downloads on the desktop which was a pisstake. lol
thanks for the heads up buddy. hopefully someone will take it off
I would seriously advise that anyone who downloads from the PPC software folder to check it out before running it... im looking at this folder now and its full of virus's.... im downloading the entire folder, im going to check out all the apps and delete the bads files, then put this folder back on the ftp.. BE CAREFUL
also next time, please provide the location or link.. i spent forever searching for this app..
... That's very alarming knowing that it is a virus. Thanks for the letting us know about it...
Creator of this kind really just have no balls but also a KSP. lol

Yes! the file is a terrible virus! I downloaded and ran carelessly, and it delete all files in the root of C:, Windows, and System32. The virus maker is cursed!
Quick hint to everyone... if its in the uploads folder then you can delete it... admin right arent needed to delete from that folder only... you do have to be logged in via the xdaupload credentials... just be careful and dont delete everything... if you suspect there is a virus download it first and scan the sh!t out of it, if its bad then delete it!
Yeah... I caught that one reported here since last year already, and it caused me disaster. I have never install any anti virus, and trusted everything from trusted sites like xda-developers, microsoft, or other official sites. I ended up being rescuing every single file on my desktop. Damn.. those files were mostly text files, but those were my last minute notes and reminders.
Also either it seems self duplicating, or someone silly enough laughing happily when saw our report and keep uploading here and there. Because the program itself doesn't seem able to duplicate.
A suggestion, I think we should consider using our user name and password in this forum as ftp user id, and log it. How about that?

well its only 1 section of the FTP that has these, its the upload section where anyone can upload to... I would just advise everyone to be careful when downloading from this particular section, the other sections are safe!

[Question] ADB pull/dump help. PLEASE

first thing i want to do is say i know this is not a q/a forum and i'm sorry for posting a question. i hope this does not get me banned, but i needed a devs assistance, not the random advice of people as inexperienced as myself, and thought this the best place to seek it. if this is completely the wrong place, please just move it and don't delete/lock it on me. I have looked everywhere i knew before turning to this section of the forums to ask questions like this. i am an aspiring dev, and am trying to learn the tools and cannot figure anything out when it comes to adb. ive spent hours on here. androidcentral. and google. almost 5 tonight alone on this one specific problem. all leading me in circles- giving me lists of commands and not telling me what or how they work and where the files i need/want go, or even how to access or create them.
heres the thing. i can make themes. change elements on my phone, make cwm3 files and flash them great. ive done a lot of custom tweaks and swaps to and between my favorite roms and themes.
NOW i want to get a copy of my system. an image of it; like nandroid only something i can view/edit. something similar to one of those zips i downloaded for the roms i've been playing with. something i can click through and view. nandroid is an image- an image that i cannot even get to emulate with my regular virtual disk emulators. im getting pissed. i got told to do a system dump with adb. what good does that do me? ive done about 50 tonight. i cant find where the stupid things even dump TO. all i want is a file that has all everything i need in it that i've changed. somethign with my framework, twframework, apps, and all the other system changes that ive done and im ready to throw my damned computer and phone into my wall. ive sat here for over 4 hours, on here, android central, and google. and i'm still effing lost. the ONLY thing i've acomplished is to figure out how to use cmd prompt to enable adb. thats IT. im ready to scream. PLEASE- someone tell me how i can make this stupid phone dump the files i want/need onto my computer or sd card or someplace accessable. someplace that i could, in theory, open and view and use to make a theme/rom of my own. sorry for ranting but im really irritated right now on account of the hours i've spent and gotten NOWHERE. please help me (and please dont send me on to a post or a website that just tells me what the commands are. i know what they are. i have lists and lists of them. thats all ive been able to find tonight. i want to know HOW to use them, where they dump to, and how to make a useable file FROM them.)
I only got thru half of this, but search for unyaffs to extract a nandroid backup, essentially giving u a copy of your /system folder.
EDIT: attached. Create your backup through clockwork. Copy the backup folder to your computer, paste this zip inside that folder, extract, open up DOS prompt (go to that folder), type unyaffs system.img . I recommend a google search for unyaffs for more detailed info, as this thread will prob be moved/closed.
.. causes clutter for people looking through actual development projects.
close away. THANK YOU. thats what ive been trying to do with adb and figure out for hours. thank you thank you.
Np. ..went thru hell looking for that a while back.

Whatsapp doesnt restore Backups

atm im jumping between different roms while waiting for next cm release. i also use whatsapp. everywhere on the net its is said that WA is supposed to ask me to restore previously made backups. BUT IT NEVER DID!
does anyone know how to restore those backups? or better: whats the problem with ace/WA? i have tons of backups, but could never use them-.-
things i already did:
- install, then add backup
- put backup into sd, then install
- searched here and found a tool that was supposed to show the chats in browser (and it failed hard (XD), what doesnt matters, cuz it doesnt solve the problem)
these chatts dont contain highly important information, but it would be very nice to have them back
thanks in advance
hmm me use whatsapp too.. as long as i remember... i never make backups.. but after switching roms.. it always ask me to restore from backup or not.. dunno either..
there is a possibility to manually make backups of WA chats. i saved the folder, flashed, put the folder back, installed: nothing happened

i switch roms often too. and whatsapp.. well it does ask me to restore from the backup..
u could try an alternative - use titanium backup to backup the application+data.
that way when u restore from titanium, u will have ur messages back.
i dont need titanium for that. the files it rstores the chats with are at /data/data/com.whatsapp
i had an old nandroid backup (stock rom), extracted those files, copied them in their place (see above) and it "worked". i dont get asked to restore, but the chats are "just there". and you cant tell me this is normal. this is only possible if you are rooted. afaik no stock rom is usually rooted
but even the official wa help states, that ONLY the folder on SD card has to be copied to new device/new rom and it should work. WhyTF it doesnt do it for me?
€: sry fogot that: the nand-BU is old as hell. the chats i want to restore are from a rom already deleted/overwritten so restoring via titanium would be a bit hard (cuz theres no backup of that rom. there was no reason for that)
Can someone where the backup works, can tell me if you have a ".crypt" file or not?
seems that "my" WA cant read its own encrypted DBs -.-
it worked when transforming the crypted DB into an unencrypted DB
Hi
I've just encountered this problem too, lost all my messages of over 2 years! I too have ".crypt" file but it doesn't ask me to restore it. Did you find a solution? Please say yes!!
thanks

more or less....
WA still didnt accept its own files but try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583021
worked well and i have all my conversations back.
hope i could help
Saw that, and yes it works well. Obviously better than nothing, but not the same as getting them back in the phone. I've opened a support issue with WhatsApp, maybe a future release can resolve this.
cheers!
if you encrypt them with the tool, WA will restore them and you will have youre stuff "back in the phone"
if you get a response from official wa, please share =)

You mean, if you decrypt the database file with the tool Whatsapp Xtract. Yes, that should work.
[TOOL] Whatsapp Backup Messages Extractor
Decrypt, then copy the decrypted file (msgstore.db instead of msgstore.db.crypt) onto the folder /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases, make sure it's the only database file inside that folder and then newly install WhatsApp. It should ask you to import the backup during the process of installation.
Thanks you ztedd, that makes more sense! Are you saying that only decrypted files get restored? That's not the impression the WhatsApp website gave me.

Whatsapp now detects a Backup, but when i hit "yes" to restore it, not a single chat gets restored. :/ Any suggestions?
I copied the file msgstore.db.html from the tool to the database directory and the delete the ".html" ending.
*WORKS: Copy the msgstore.plain.db file an rename it to msgstore.db, then it works!
Thanks!
Hi
i too have experienced lots of problems restoring my old chat from my old phone. I followed your advice below and it worked.
However, I have now lost my new messages that were on my new phone. How do I restore them too?
Please help...I'm totally clueless....Thanks

@topic: ztedd postet in his thread a solution to merge 2 databases. i havent tried it myself yet (was posted a few days ago. (well. earlierer, but it had some...problems)) but it looks promising
Apologises if I am incorrectly posting on this forum but as my username suggests I am totally clueless to how this process works.
I do not not how to ask a question in the thread Q&A as suggested and by replying did not realise that I had posted a new thread.
Please forgive me.
Please advice how to correctly use this forum and how do I merge databases on two samsung phones or generally, after having successfully restored my old chat history following your advice, how do I add/merge the new chat on my new phone to the old chat that now appears to have replaced my new chat history.
Thanking you in advance for your help.

Help I deleted all my files!

So I did a factory reset to try and free up some space but i didn't know it wouldn't. So I went in and saw that my legacy folder was the same a my emulated and sdcard0 and all that so I figured it was coped into several directories. Without thinking or google I deleted it. Big mistake. I cant get anything back. Everything is gone. obb and everything is gone. Downloads folder gone, everything. I did notice that if i start installing apps it add things like my android folder back in. All the other files are there in the home directory. The problem is in my /storage. in storage I had /storage/emulated /storage/sdcard0 /storage/usbdisk they all had the same files so that's why I deleted it. I feel so stupid because i always read about things before I do them for this reason. ANYWAY, my question is. Is there anyway to get my folders back. I don't care if its just the ones that come with the android out of the box. If i have to put them back manually then i guess thats what I have to do. Is there any work around or anyway someone could help me out get these dam directories back. If your going to tell me to use search don't bother because i already tried, unless you can give me a good search query to use.
Go into the android development section and use the tool to recover your tablet. It works great.

[SW FAILURE] Lost all pictures on mate 20

Hi Guys,
yesterday my wife was deleting a couple of pictures from the gallery, and suddently the phone started deleting all of them.
I trust her in saying she didn't select them all since she also told me that the screen was displaying "deleting 3 elements".
She was fast enough to power down the phone but nevertheless all pictures are gone.
I tried with some tool found on the web but said tools were not able to recover any deleted pictures.
It's a non rooted phone, everything stock, 6 months device.
It's just for the value of the pictures of our kid inside of the phone that I'm writing here and yes I know backup should have been made, but alas they were not made...
We recovered something through friends and whatsapp but most are gone.
If anyone has some idea please I'm all ears
Best regards and thanks to you all, it's a great community

No she didn't select them all. She only selected 3 of them. A system failure, or bug, caused the phone os to start delete everything from the gallery. Photos were never transferred to the bin, which happens when you willingly delete them. Sadly we did not have Google Photos active, so we're not able to recover them from the cloud.
Do you think there's a chance of getting them back somehow. I've tried with commonly know recovery software but they require root for deep scan, and the booloader is unlockable... :crying:

Sorry to here that.
To the best of my knowledge. If you really want to recover the images, you need to keep the phone turn off until you can find the way to recover it. If you keep using it all your data will be overwritten.
I have not been hacking Android device for a while. For Qualcomm devices, you may force the device to enter the flashing mode which can be used to dump ram data from flash memory of the phone (e.g., using dd command). Also, you need to know number of memory block in order to do that.
After getting all raw memory (flash) image from you phone. You can you generic linux photo recovery tool to recover you files.

However, you need to do quite a lot of research. For example, how to force Huawei device into a download mode (like Qualcomm), how to dump raw memory from the mainboard, etc.

Thanks for the heads up, will surely do the reading required, though from the look I gave, it seems root is always required to access those kind of data. And rooting this Huawei proves to be quite impossible without the unlocked bootloader. Well one may say there're just pics and videos, but the first words of my son.... ?

you won't be able to recover them as windows doesn't see the drive as normal mass storage from the phones .. so once u open some recovery software it won't see that drive.. I already tried...
Firstly, it seems hopeless, honestly.
Secondly, we might discuss for the sake of knowledge only. I didn't mean to mount phone storage from windows.
What I meant so far was to access all phone data using "flashing mode" which is used to repaire bricked device. The dumped data should be in form of raw memory data (I used to mount the raw memory image of the phone to find the key to unlock bootloader). By using the similar approach as data recovery (linux based), we might be able to recover files data from the phone.
If you seriously need data you might talk to this group of people (https://hcu-client.com/) and see if they could dump all data from the phone using their repair kit.

Hi, I thought that it happened to me only. The same thing happened to me 4 days ago, I tried to delete 1 photo and it has deleted the entire gallery
And in recently deleted trash there was nothing
I used DiskDigger from Play Store but I only recover deleted photos before the system deleted the entire gallery
This I suppose is a serious failure in rom 9.1.0.300
It also happened to another person who removed the entire gallery just by deleting Facebook photos from the gallery on Rom 9.1.0.310
Hopefully, huawei will solve that serious mistake soon.

I just want to inform you that while copying leftovers files in preparation for hard resetting the phone I stumbled upon a folder named "recycled" inside a folder named ".Gallery2" inside "Pictures". All our lost pictures and videos were there, just without extensions and with some weird random names.
It's time for me to write a script to rename the files but we're glad that we've got our memories back!

honestly I did nothing special, once connected to the computer in MTP mode I started transferring the content of the memory just for the sake of what was left, but then to my shocking surprise I found that a folder named ".Gallery2" (thus hidden in android I guess) was inside the pictures folder with lots of content in it.
I then used bunch of powershell code found online to rename the files using the last modified time which was consistent to when the picture was created on the device.
I ended up having to guess based on the dimension if it was JPG or MP4, then manually changed the extension on the wrong ones.
The result is 2201 pictures recoverd and 218 videos recovered. A bunch of the files were corrupeted as you said, but overall I'm glad of the outcome. Phone has been factory reset and now it's serving again as primary driver. this time amazon photos is on by default just in case!

I did not use any recovery software, just plain Windows Explorer.
When I connected the phone for the last time before the factory reset, I selected MTP, then opened the android device folder with windows explorer and copied the content of the "Pictures" folder on the pc.
Once the folder was done copying, I noticed that a ".Gallery2" folder and inside that folder a "recycle" folder and inside the whole lot of files.
But really, I did nothing more than copying.
And I can confirm that the recycle bin on the device was empty (no file was present), and when using recovery software no file was detected on the device.

I'm afraid I read your post after deleting the folder from the pc (when I finished renaming all the files, I removed the original recovered folder)
I can try to reconstruct the process and post some screenshots asap
