I've been searching around for some custom roms, I'm seeing a lot for specific variants but no mention of the Verizon one. I'm also admittedly having trouble with XDA's new system and maybe I'm just not searching correctly. Is anyone out there familiar with the VZ variant and if there are any options in aftermarket roms to bring thing up to date?

If you have the 8 inch version, it's using an Exynos 7570. If you have the 9.6 inch version, it's using a Qualcomm MSM 8916.
If that's true for the 9.6 inch version, there's a possibility that my 17.1 ROM for the SM-T560NU will work with the Verizon, however
1. you won't get LTE. I don't have the LTE version and I will not build it because I can't test it.
2. your Verizon tablet may have a locked bootloader and it won't allow any custom rom flashing.
3. even though they use the same SoC/cpu, there's always a chance of a bricked device.
4. it's obviously untested.
5. if you don't know adb, heimdall, odin, fastboot, twrp, etc and how to recover back to your stock rom, I suggest you don't attempt it.
6. you need to backup all your data, partitions, etc so you can revert back to stock or whatever rom you are using.
You can do your own homework/research for all the above.

Then you have to add the LTE libraries, change the various config options to tell the rom to use LTE/RIL, change the assert statements to allow SM-T567 and possibly make kernel modifications.
Its the 8" version, so I guess this is a non-starter.
Maybe I can root and debloat the stock rom enough to make it worthwhile, but I was really hoping to throw some lineage goodness this way. :/
Also I'm pretty sure the Verizon Tab E 8.0 is bootloader locked, just like the AT&T Tab E 8.0 is, so custom recoveries and ROM's are no-gos on both of those devices.

Is the A3, A5, A7 series bad for dev of ROMs and new mods on sites like this? I saw someone that wrote something about that. They mentioned it was due to the Exynos chipsets. Could have been the 2015 or 2016-series also.
No, it is misunderstanding in the early days it was like that but times changes.
Look at the s7 exynos full of dev support.
It is a new phone, give it time.
It is always like that.
Samsung release even the open source files maby it is not complete but u could port cm 13 or lineage os by yourself to the device and get things working.
Or build a kernel etc.
Twrp same it can get official but we get someone who is mainly focus on dev twrp for our devices.
I dont have much time and i will focus mainly on the stock os.

And, I guess older versions often need less memory than newer versions?
I am thinking about to install lineage OS 14 on a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini.
I have found out that there is a Lineage OS 14 version for this phone.
But, can I find 13 or 12? If so, do the need less memory? Would it be better to install a older version?
And, how stable is lineage OS 14 for this phone?
And will Samsung Galaxy S4 mini works as a USB host with Lineage OS 14 installed?

Here some general considerations: People often say old devices are too weak for modern android versions. I think this is a legend promoted by device markers for not providing updates. Early users of new versions often confirm that legend. But they compare stable old versions with unstable new versions. Nougat is OK now.
Regarding storages: main difference between nougat ROMs is preinstalled apps. They get even bigger by installing gapps. MicroG is a resource friendly (and privacy oriented) replacement for some gapps features.

Official LOS14 running fine on my S4 Mini & very stable (though dialer has crashed a couple of times when answering a call but I am the only person who seems to have this… maybe due to to fact I used the migration tool for moving from unofficial LOS14 to official LOS14 to move from CM13 to LOS14, so I can't complain) Install TWRP fromS4 mini neozone thread & update modem also if available for your S4 Mini version.

Yes. It is not easy to find a small phone with good lineage support. It's not like Linux for PCs, where ram and disk space are the limiting factors. For custom android you need someone to build a ROM or do it yourself. S3 mini or moto e are OK.
Coming from a OnePlus3, which was easy to root and had tons of ROMs...
If I want the same with the S9, I need to buy the international version unlocked, correct?
Also I saw in the S8 thread that AOSP ROMs are not easily available, or still being worked on but OK for S9?
I'm looking for good hardware that I can root and debloat (titanium backup is a must for me and has saved me countless times).

S9 has RMM implemented, long story short its a new feature of samsung that prevents you from flashing custom binaries (TWRP Included) to the phone for the first 7 days of using it.
Once you get your phone, finish set up wizard, connect a google and samsung account and wait 7 days for the OEM unlock button to appear. There are AOSP roms for the device, namely RR and Lineage OS.
I came from a oneplus 3 running AOSP resurrection remix 6.0 to the galaxy s9 a few days ago. I've been flashing phones for many years now, so I'm well versed in initially gaining root/custom recovery. This phone was a breeze to flash. The root guide in the tutorials section of this sub forum was great. Just make sure the usb drivers are on your pc and you follow the instructions exactly. I had resurrection remix 6.0 running on my galaxy s9 (exynos) in 10 mins after opening the box! [emoji106]

I'm unsure about the bootloader abilities of the snapdragon variant. I only have the Exynos personally, which is unlockable.

There is no TWRP for the snapdragon international variant so I will definitely stay away from it.

My question is about compatibility between devices, i have an Argentinian SM-G9600, can i install an android 9 rom for a SM-G960F? i didn't find information about and don't wanna wait for a non-comming update (i'm stuck at september patch.....)

Your device is a snapdragon model and the G960F is an exynos model

Tried LOS15.1 too, but wasn't stable.

Newer firmware doesn't necessarily make the device faster. There isn't much you can do about a 9 yr old device.
Since the T800/T805 are not Treble compliant, the only way to run newer firmware is via custom ROMs, although I doubt development on devices this old gets much attention.
So what I understand is there is not much to do with the tablet to make it a little bit faster.
What about root or that is a different matter?

Root is a different matter. In most cases, you can flash the Magisk app through TWRP, and Magisk will automatically detect the right way to root your device. If TWRP is not available, you'll need to patch the AP firmware file in Magisk, then flash to your device with Odin.

Would you be able to suggest which old tablets could make sense to flash semi-current roms onto? I tried to bring back some old device to reuse for home assistant display, but it's too old... Been thinking about these samsungs, but from this thread it's also a bit too old.

I don't have any suggestions, sorry. I have a Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (T290) at home that I'm running an AOSP GSI on, but those were released in 2018.

imho it's correct that a custom ROM doesn't necessarily make old devices faster, but I experienced it such that at least they don't get slower (except I9195).
Recently I was allowed to support development of Android 19=LOS 20 for my T325 and it runs like hell.
P600 and P900 on LOS14, T810 on LOS19 all using daily in different rooms.
I9195 on LOS18 (that is really laggy) N910F on LOS18 as backup devices.
