Xiaomi Mi 10 LTE - Hotspot issues - Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
I am having issues with my Xiaomi Mi 10 LTE, where i have been using my hotspot due to the company wifi being down for a whole week and having a lot of issues. Currently i am only able to use my hotspot if i use no security, as with the WPA-2 security it fails to connect to internet or just outright fails to initialise the connection. If i do connect with no security, it fails if i disconnect or if i lock my tablet for a short time and refuses to connect again. I have found a workaround where i can add security and a password, then leave it to initialize the connection... i can't connect to it even with the correct password, but if i change the hotspot to have no security again it will connect fine. I have tried resetting my connection settings and this fixes it for an hour or so and then stops working. I have tried changing from 2.4g to 5g and back, this doesn't work. If i change the sim card slot it works for an hour and then breaks again. I can use the fix of adding a password and removing it but it is generally a massive pain in the a**.
Does anyone have anything they have tried that works as a perminent fix?
Thanks in advance!

Just to add, i am connecting to the hotspot with my Samsung Tab S7+ which has had no isses with other wifi connections and worked on my S7 Phone so i am sure it is the new phone. I have had it a few months but never used the hotspot until now.

I've been having quite a similar issue, and this is the second time I get it on the same model! I guess this is a bug or an hardware problem related to the model. The only thing I noticed working, and it's not a security issue in my opinion, is the position where you keep it! try to holding it in your hand at different inclination , until you find the right position. the one I'm using right now works better when lying on a table, the previous one worked better in a standing, lightly tilted position, as you can see in th eimage

That is insane! I'll have to try a few things and I'll get back with results. Normally my phone is lying down on a table but I'll check a few positions. I have found that screen mirroring seems to have the same effect... as in it doesn't really work. I don't know if it is just data out when the issue arises as I don't have any problems downloading or streaming etc.

No way to control Wifi connection after connection attempt !

Hi,
I have been using Wifi on my Qtek 9090 for several months already with no pb (except maybe the poor signal level).
I installed recently a VPN software to connect to my company's intranet. Works just fine. I can now access my work emails at any time from anywhere.
The only thing is that since then, when I start wifi on the unit, the check box does not get "ticked" and it gives the impression that Wifi was not started. BUT when the upper left light is blinking, the battery gets drained a lot faster and when I look at the network cards, I can see the available wifi networks. All signs of being connected.
So far I would not mind too much but I can not STOP Wifi anymore. I did not find anyway to stop it (of course, since all software apps controlling are saying that it is stopped already)...
Anyone has seen this somewhere? Any idea on how to fix this?
Thanks !
Sorry for asking again but I'm really stuck with that. I can start wifi on the unit but when started I can not stop it anymore !!! It seems that the software apps controlling wifi do not see it started and thus do not ofer the possibility to stop it.
This makes it impossible to use wifi since baterries can not afford wifi always on...
Anyone has seen this somewhere already?

Need some help, wifi doesn't work, period. Long.

Not sure how exactly to describe my problem other than my wifi has never worked on my Note 4. I got fed up with it and finally had a replacement device ordered after a 4th trip to the sprint store for service where the last tech finally agreed that the device was defective only to have the same problem with the new phone too. I love the phone and after having the Note 2 for a couple of trouble free years wanted this one to replace it but I'm lost for words right now. We have 3 Galaxy S5's and the Note 4 on the same account, under the same roof, using the same routers, tv's to connect to, etc... all s5's work flawlessly with wifi, and using Allshare on our Samsung Smart tv (which we use a lot) so I know there's no issue with any other equipment and this issue is everywhere I go, not just at home. As far as me knowing what I'm doing, well maybe I'm missing something but I've had Android phones since day one and have been rooting since the Epic 4g (no root on the Note 4) so I'd like to think that I'd catch some kind of setting here plus 4 techs have re-set, updated, double checked, and replaced the phone with no luck. Here's what it does, power the phone up and connect to wifi, no problem, visit website or watch video no problem, super fast like it should be, about a minute later blue circle loading video or load next page and get a could not connect to network or refresh page. At that time I can simply switch wifi off and the page or video will load and be fine. Switch wifi back on same thing, works like a champ for about a minute then nothing. Then there's Allshare, never had a problem with my Note 2, ever, all of our s5's work flawlessly, try to connect my Note 4 and the tv can't detect the phone and the phone can't detect the tv. It will work every so often but only for about 30 seconds and freeze then you can't connect again. One more issue I believe to be having is the gps, I ride a road bike a couple times a week and track my mileage using a bike computer app, sometimes it will track me sometimes it won't at all, and if I use the Navigation I constantly get the "lost gps signal" message. I need some help here, I'm tired of going to the Sprint Store, I just want a phone that works! That bill keeps coming every month and each time I pay it I get pissed off that my 9 year old has a better working phone than me and I have the Next Big Thing. So far its been a big disappointment!
Did you factory reset after lollipop OB7 update?
Check your Wi-Fi and GPS settings. I believe most routers won't allow address conflicts but check your router for connected devices and make sure that isn't happening. Do you restrict wireless to MAC address on your router? Maybe you need to update the trusted MAC table?
May just be a factory reset takes care of the issues. If not, compare settings with the other phones.
Still not working? Try some static IP settings and set DNS to Google. (Long press your router in Wi-Fi networks and select modify, check advanced settings and scroll. You should see the Google DNS servers dimly lit just enter the same numbers) If not, Google it.
I can't compare the s5 to the Note 4 but comparing the Epic to Note 4, Wi-Fi signal strength and speed of connection is much better on the Note 4; I see more Wi-Fi networks, too. I haven't navigated with Note 4 so I can't compare that.

Returned home from short trip, Wifi connects but does not function

As the title says, I didn't change anything about the phone's configuration when I was out, didn't download any new apps or change any settings that would interfere like this. No one else has changed my home network in my absence.
Nevertheless, most of my apps, such as Instagram, the Play Store, Twitter, Wikipedia, Chrome; almost all their requests time out. There seem to be short windows where data will load, and Instagram appears to load comments and post metadata, but no images. It's basically unusable. Occasionally an exclamation mark will pop up over my Wifi symbol in the notification center. Strangely, I can still reach my Steam and Battle.net authenticators, but the moment I try loading the Steam app, nothing comes up. It's like the device can only handle plaintext over Wifi.
All of the apps work fine over cellular data.
Also, there is a toast that appears whenever I restart my phone that says "Power On" that I've never noticed before. I was rooted using Xposed, the only modules I used were Snapprefs, Xinsta, Physical Button Music Control, and Greenify Experimental Features, all of which I uninstalled. The toast still appears with the latter two disabled. Only other rooted apps I had besides Xposed were Nova Launcher, Greenify, Busybox, and Root Checker Basic, all of which have been removed but Nova.
I am running 6.0.1 with the latest update.
Any ideas? I am still within 15 day warranty so I could theoretically return the phone (which I was contemplating doing anyhow since 10gb of functional storage is a bit too small for me), but would rather not have my hand forced, and eat into my cell data plan.
So far I have tried forgetting the network, wiping cache/dalvik with TWRP, removing the Google VPN, resetting all network settings, and a couple things I can't remember offhand now. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

First, if you want to return your device because the 16gb model doesn't have enough space, go ahead.
If it is mostly because of this WiFi issue, I wouldn't return the device, it is almost certainly the case this is some configuration issue (possibly in concert with some Android bug) which can be resolved.
Is it possible when you came home the device connected to a neighbor's AP and thus you couldn't use data, but it wasn't immediately obvious, so you ended up forgetting your own network and reentering the config, but the key was off by a little, and from that point on, it was just assumed the wifi config was correct?
When you say Google VPN, are you using WiFi Assistant and Project Fi? Have you tried disabling auto-connect fir the WiFi Assistant?
Have you tried using the old Lollipop DHCP client (perhaps your IP address got used by another device and the new Android client doesn't handle that well?) Just grasping at straws.
Have you tried turning on Bluetooth while WiFi is on? Perhaps there is a bug with them working independently of each other in certain situations.

I am 100% positive I am on my own home network and that I used the correct key. I'm not sure what you mean with regards to the rest of the 'config', I have always used the standard wifi configuration, just typed in my key and had it work.

I actually forget what it was called, it was under Settings>Wireless&Networks>More>VPN. There was one entry there with an icon. I forget the name of it, but the icon looked like a stock Google icon and I think it had google in the name. I am on Project Fi, not using any wifi assistant (at least not in Advanced Wi-Fi Settings), but when I tried to toggle that option on just now, something called "VpnDialogs" crashed, so I assume that VPN entry was that. But again, the assistant wasn't on.

I did, when I first googled this was one of the things I found, sadly it did not help.

I don't use Bluetooth, and trying to toggle it off/on from the control center just gives me a repeated "unfortunately, Bluetooth Share has stopped" error message.
I have decided to get the 32GB 5X since I do want more storage, but since I would like to be able to root my phone again and use Xposed, I would still like to hear any other ideas you have for troubleshooting this problem in case it reoccurs.
I reflashed the latest update to see if that would fix it, no dice. When I send the 16GB model back I have to factory reset it anyway, so I suppose I'll know if that does it.
What puzzles me is why I can load text from instagram posts that have been posted while I've been having this problem, but not images. Makes me think that maybe my connection is being super throttled somehow rather than non-functional, but my PC's speeds are normal. Perhaps some internal part is damaged? I do have a case and it hasn't taken any serious tumbles, but it has had one or two small falls from maybe 2 feet high.

It is easy to test if you have some network connection vs none.
In terminal or adb shell
ifconfig wlan0
ping www.google.com
1st command will tell you (among other things) if your wlan picked up an IP address.
2nd command will test whether you can send ping packets over your connection.
I'm sure there are millions of ways of doing the above, I just gave you one example.
Strangely, the solution seems to have come from factory resetting my router. I ruled this out initially because my other old phones were working fine on wifi, my phone is now getting WiFi again.
Now to figure out what the hell this "Power On" toast is about...

I've encountered something similar where the router runs out of NVRAM space because it has recorded too many DHCP clients, it won't hand out new IP addresses, but if you are existing or already have one, it is fine.

A similar thread was made on the subject - link here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/help/android-10-5g-wifi-dropping-t4037661
For practical intents and purposes it's almost like when the issue happens the phone is not able to resolve a DNS query. I base this on 2 hypothesis - first being that the phone is still connected to the wifi access point and can still access LAN resources. The second being that the phone must either poll the internet (i.e ping a specific address) on a regular basis. If the poll was unsuccessful it flags the connection as "WiFi connected but no internet".
The things you can try are:
update the firmware on your phone (if not already)
factory data reset (read note 1 below)
reset network settings
try a different wireless router (read note 2 and 3 below)
disable private dns (read note 4 below)
If you use tasker create a routine to automate a temporary solution (read note 5)
Notes
The issue maybe a corrupted setting within the phone. I have had similar issues before (not with just this phone) and a factory data reset helped. One thing to take note of is that after the phone had completed it's factory data reset I did not attempt to restore a backup. This is important to keep in mind because any issues that were present (due to corrupted settings) would exist also in the pre-factory data reset backup you made.
With my previous router I had this issue but had since replaced it with a Wifi 6 capable router. After getting the new router I have not had any further issues what so ever. Also make sure your wireless router is up to date on it's firmware. It maybe possible that the wireless router you have is old enough (from when it was released, not from when you bought it) that a replacement might be the only way to resolve the issue.
To help rule out a wireless router issue try using a different one. You can borrow a friend's internet connection for a while, or a public cafe or what ever. Point is you are trying to see if the issue happens again when you are using a totally different wireless access point (by totally different I mean hardware/model and not just renaming the SSID).
I had the issue happen when using private DNS. For what ever reason the issue was with the DNS provider I had choosen. Turning the Private DNS setting off helped resolve the issue. After turning the setting off it may take a bit before the phone recognizes it was turned off, but you can hasten this process by toggling WiFi off and back on.
The Tasker option is one I did and it worked quite well. You may need to adjust the routine to suit your particular needs but it's basically what is at this link here. Best part of this option is that you can have it only activate when your connected to the problematic wifi access point and every X number of minutes (helps ensure that you use it only when needed). The routine (when setup correctly) should run every 10 minutes in where it attempts to access a website and assigns the results to a variable. The variable is then checked to see if it matches a specific result (in this case an error code), and if it does match it will toggle WiFi off and back on (after a brief pause/wait period between toggle off and toggle on) automatically. Granted it sounds like a lot of work, but it's really not that complex. Also I consider this is a temporary solution because you may find that on later firmware updates applied to the phone (or you may end up getting a new wireless router) the issue will have been resolved.

General connectivity issues

Hey folks!
I just picked up the BS3 after being generally disappointed for most of a year with the Razer Phone 2. I got the EU version (I guess?) and have been having general issues with the wireless.
Periodically, almost the entire suite of wireless connectivity just drops. My WearOS watch (Ticwatch Pro 2020) will disconnect, and the custom watchface I use via Watchfaces disappears. Wifi usually keeps working so I may not notice the drop right away, but if I'm on my phone's cellular connection, nothing goes through even though it shows signal and LTE. In my car on my way home from work this morning I was on the phone with my captain, and the bluetooth connection to my car started cutting in and out, to the point that I had to turn bluetooth off to finish the call. There was no issue up to that point, while driving and listening to Audible.
I am suspecting/hoping it was user error in setting the device up. I backed up my RP2 to Google Drive, because I didn't want to lose my apps/data (I was mostly hoping my Swype settings and game logins would transfer over, since Swype died and I'm being a luddite, and the games require the hassle of 'transfer IDs') and have my text messages transfer over easily. I think it also possibly transferred the core device stuff like cellular and bluetooth settings as well, though am not sure.
Turning airplane mode on and off seems to 'reset' things and it'll reconnect to stuff, for a while again at least. I noticed I am somehow still getting at least some push notifications on my watch even though it shows as disconnected. I am a firefighter, on AT&T's Firstnet, so am also not sure if maybe the Firstnet bands might be being finnicky with the BS3.
Thanks ahead of time for any help and suggestions!
ETA: I also get the "Xiaomi SIM activation failed" alert every time I restart the phone, and sometimes after reboot the keyboard doesn't load. ? I get the feeling ill need to reflash again, but knowing where I went wrong first would help! Also curious if there is a stock Android ROM because this JoyUI seems a hassle, and I just don't want all the Xiaomi stuff.
