Need some help, wifi doesn't work, period. Long. - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure how exactly to describe my problem other than my wifi has never worked on my Note 4. I got fed up with it and finally had a replacement device ordered after a 4th trip to the sprint store for service where the last tech finally agreed that the device was defective only to have the same problem with the new phone too. I love the phone and after having the Note 2 for a couple of trouble free years wanted this one to replace it but I'm lost for words right now. We have 3 Galaxy S5's and the Note 4 on the same account, under the same roof, using the same routers, tv's to connect to, etc... all s5's work flawlessly with wifi, and using Allshare on our Samsung Smart tv (which we use a lot) so I know there's no issue with any other equipment and this issue is everywhere I go, not just at home. As far as me knowing what I'm doing, well maybe I'm missing something but I've had Android phones since day one and have been rooting since the Epic 4g (no root on the Note 4) so I'd like to think that I'd catch some kind of setting here plus 4 techs have re-set, updated, double checked, and replaced the phone with no luck. Here's what it does, power the phone up and connect to wifi, no problem, visit website or watch video no problem, super fast like it should be, about a minute later blue circle loading video or load next page and get a could not connect to network or refresh page. At that time I can simply switch wifi off and the page or video will load and be fine. Switch wifi back on same thing, works like a champ for about a minute then nothing. Then there's Allshare, never had a problem with my Note 2, ever, all of our s5's work flawlessly, try to connect my Note 4 and the tv can't detect the phone and the phone can't detect the tv. It will work every so often but only for about 30 seconds and freeze then you can't connect again. One more issue I believe to be having is the gps, I ride a road bike a couple times a week and track my mileage using a bike computer app, sometimes it will track me sometimes it won't at all, and if I use the Navigation I constantly get the "lost gps signal" message. I need some help here, I'm tired of going to the Sprint Store, I just want a phone that works! That bill keeps coming every month and each time I pay it I get pissed off that my 9 year old has a better working phone than me and I have the Next Big Thing. So far its been a big disappointment!

Did you factory reset after lollipop OB7 update?
Check your Wi-Fi and GPS settings. I believe most routers won't allow address conflicts but check your router for connected devices and make sure that isn't happening. Do you restrict wireless to MAC address on your router? Maybe you need to update the trusted MAC table?
May just be a factory reset takes care of the issues. If not, compare settings with the other phones.
Still not working? Try some static IP settings and set DNS to Google. (Long press your router in Wi-Fi networks and select modify, check advanced settings and scroll. You should see the Google DNS servers dimly lit just enter the same numbers) If not, Google it.
I can't compare the s5 to the Note 4 but comparing the Epic to Note 4, Wi-Fi signal strength and speed of connection is much better on the Note 4; I see more Wi-Fi networks, too. I haven't navigated with Note 4 so I can't compare that.

[Q] AT&T Galaxy S III, WiFi 'authentication' issues and router question...

*EDIT* Posted in the wrong section; my apologies. i was looking in Q&A and hit 'new thread' in General. Move please? Again, sorry!
My GS3 will not connect to any WiFi networks. I have 13 days remaining to return/replace it. I have tried on 3 different routers; a Linksys WRT-54G, Belkin F5D8233-4 Wireless N router, and whatever D-Link router a local coffee shop had.
I have tried the special command *#0011# (or whatever it is). i have tried disabling WPS, changed router channels, disabled all security, switched between 20/40Mhz and 20Mhz modes, and reset/forgot every network and router probably 20 times last night, to no avail. From 2 feet away.
From what i have read, it appears to be a software glitch; pre-Sept 22 update didnt have the same problem, and the fact it keeps flashing 'incorrect password' and then gives me an authentication error, on fully unprotected networks, leads me to believe it is in fact software related.
Has anyone successfully connected to a router (if so, which one? specifically please), i am going to buy a second router to cover the rest of my house anyways (its big, cinderblock, steel, brick, and mortar with solid doors so WiFi doesn't penetrate very far), and i dont mind waiting for a fix (if its coming) for WiFi.
Its not a big problem because i have a grandfathered unlimited data plan, and i don't use data or surf much (average of 1.5 gigs a month for myself; 4-5 gigs when my girlfriend is home) so i dont actually need WiFi, but i paid for it, and i expected it to work.
As far as the routers I have, my sisters' my now-retired Motorola Atrix 4G, iPhone 4, my girlfriends' Blackberry Bold, my mothers' Kindle Fire, my fathers' iPad 3, and their iPhone 3Gs, three computers, one server, two laptops, and two printers all connect flawlessly. Even my *ancient* HTC Hermes and HTC Kaiser connect just fine, as well as any of our friends or guests devices. My friends' Samsung Galaxy Note also connects just fine (though i do not know which Android version she is using, or if they share the same WiFi chip).
So, in conclusion, how many others have this problem? did you have the same problem before the latest OTA update? and for those of you with no issues, which router models are you connecting to?
I just want this feature to work; we travel a lot, and rely on WiFi to communicate and do business abroad, so i will need it working in the coming weeks, and i would MUCH rather use take the GS3 over my unlocked Atrix.
Thanks in advance!
Sounds like a bad phone. Exchange it.

I seem to have stumbled upon a solution, mostly by accident. Even though i had repeatedly reset every variable and security feature, disabled everything and tried probably 20 times, with old and new firmware, i could not get it to connect and was about to return the phone.
Then my father came over with his new iPad; and it wouldnt connect either. I did a factory reset on the router, disabled everything (WPS, WEP/Security, firewall, etc) and both connected, seamlessly, and stayed connected.
Since then, it has connected just fine to any WiFi network; i never changed any advanced features on the phone, and i do not have to utilize the #*1100# trick; the signal is as strong as that of any other wireless devices. I believe there is a glitch or bug somewhere in the software on the SGIII, however, as it had been giving me authentication errors or 'wrong password' errors on completely unsecured networks. After i reset and factory restored the router, all is well. I havent set up security on my network at all, but i have both the iPad 3 and Galaxy S III here to play with, and i will go through different options until i identify what security feature, specifically, each does not work with.
I will attempt to post any errors and log dumps here so perhaps the community can fix it instead of waiting for Google, but i am unsure how to log and post them from the Galaxy S III, any pointers would be great.

web network login lost quickly. - is it an LG thing

I haven't. Had this problem on android and not since iPhone 3g years ago in college. Here is an example - you go to, school, hospital, wherever and log in through their website. Click accept to the rules and bang u r riding waves. But 10 minutes later after not being on your phone, class is done, etc you open your browser and... U want to throw the phone - now its time to hit retry, which never works, so u have to open another page to something different than Google until the website login page comes up and you can sign in by hitting accept again. I Sat next to my wife and we tried the same pages, ate lunch, opened up and her note 2 would surf no issues, my LG g3 lost connection and had to,back to the accept/login screen. So is it a setting, LG thing, or android 4.4 thing, please save my sanity and data plan.

probably an network thing after 10 min of inactivity it breaks the connection, you wife's note was probably syncing something in the background, so the inactivity wasn't quite as long it is that or you have ennablede the option to shut down wifi when screen is off(settings/wifi/settings/keep on durring sleep/always
I knew someone would try and say that even after it happening at multiple places and having a good test proving it. If your answer is the case, then what is her phone doing that keeps he continual, connection? Bc I can't stand this and need to,make it happen on my phone. My shoutcast is doing it too. I open Pandora to fast forward and it says connection lost and Pandora starts playing a different song than what is still playing on the shoutcast. It is not a shoutcast or network issue if I loose network connection everytime on different networks and never had the issue before with other tablets and phones except a ijunk phone5 years ago. Shoutcast streams a link sent to it, My phone should not drop the connection regardless. I don't loose WiFi connection to my house and it logs in no problem. Its the way my phone is handling the network connection. Ok maybe u r correct, in that other phones sends a continual ping, but how to fix my phone. Oh now that I think, about it, I lost connection 3 Times last night at work if my screen was off for more than a minute or so with the Amazon chat customer service for a return. I had to put my screen on no-time-out to finish the chat. This network feature to hold a connection at school years ago was one of my favorite things after coming from,iPhone. No need to mess with connecting every time if u stayed in the building.
Please pardon my thumbs, oh and the WiFi on when screen off was oem set to "on"
Solved - So Verizon tier 2 support said it was an anti virus app closing the connections. I didn't have anything which reminded me to get something good for avg i suppose. Anyway he said likely myVerizon security which I didn't set up. Anyway I downgraded and used the flash tool method to go to 10b, rootee, then used titanium and uninstalled everything on the safe bloatware to remove list. All is work now, I did have 30 minutes last night where I kept looking and instantly regaining home WiFi while watching videos on a website, no YouTube app. Networks that require web login looking connection is solved. Also, pandora issue is solved

VoIP problem

At my job, we use an Allworx VoIP phone system that offers an app for a soft phone. I was using it for about 8 months on the 6p with no issues, then on the note 7 until I had to give it back. On the pixel, we're having some issues where the phone will stop being able to connect back to the server when on wifi after a day or less. If I switch to 4g it will connect, then go back to wifi and it still won't. Reboot the phone and it works... For a short time. I called tech support for the company and they acknowledged a problem with the pixel and said it is up to Google to fix, it's not a problem with their app. They didn't offer me much info aside from that.
Has anyone heard any specific issues with the network stack on the pixel or with anything else that might cause this on this device but no others? I'd love to find some other workaround aside from rebooting my phone every few hours to stay connected when I'm not physically in the office.

RE the Wi-Fi dropping...

I have fiber at home, the signal is stable, my router is a Google Wifi and I have no problem with any other device (Windows laptop, Galaxy S8+, Chromecast and 16 other Smart Home devices) but the Galaxy A70. The Wi-Fi signal indication and the throughput are usually good BUT, especially under certain conditions, the Galaxy A70 drops the Wi-fi altogether, goes to data and comes back on Wi-fi, usually all within a few seconds. I have tried anything I could think of and after some searching I realized it's just a problem with this phone (which I love, BTW).
It's usually not a big problem except in a couple of situations when it's VERY annoying: when uploading something large to a service/with an app which don't resume uploadings and when mirroring the device on the Chromecast (particularly in the latter case, it happens so often that mirroring is basically unusable).
I worked around it enabling "Wi-Fi temporary mode" (literal translation from the Italian, I don't know how it's called in English) in Developer Options. The Wi-Fi connection, although not perfect, got stable enough to allow me at least to be able to mirror my device without constant disconnections.
Well, yesterday I got the Android 10 update and while no, this issue was not fixed, re-enabling that Developer Options setting (which got reset and which changed name, it's now called "Accelerazione ricerca Wi-Fi" ("Wi-Fi- search acceleration", LOL, it doesn't make much sense in Italian either), I got much better results than on Android Pie. In over 2 hours of mirroring I got zero disconnections!
So, all in all, good news!
Please note that now that setting in Developer Options must be disabled, meaning that it comes enabled by default and you must disable it while in the past to change that Wi-Fi behaviour you had to enable that old setting, which was called differently.

Xiaomi Mi 10 LTE - Hotspot issues

Hey guys,
I am having issues with my Xiaomi Mi 10 LTE, where i have been using my hotspot due to the company wifi being down for a whole week and having a lot of issues. Currently i am only able to use my hotspot if i use no security, as with the WPA-2 security it fails to connect to internet or just outright fails to initialise the connection. If i do connect with no security, it fails if i disconnect or if i lock my tablet for a short time and refuses to connect again. I have found a workaround where i can add security and a password, then leave it to initialize the connection... i can't connect to it even with the correct password, but if i change the hotspot to have no security again it will connect fine. I have tried resetting my connection settings and this fixes it for an hour or so and then stops working. I have tried changing from 2.4g to 5g and back, this doesn't work. If i change the sim card slot it works for an hour and then breaks again. I can use the fix of adding a password and removing it but it is generally a massive pain in the a**.
Does anyone have anything they have tried that works as a perminent fix?
Thanks in advance!
Just to add, i am connecting to the hotspot with my Samsung Tab S7+ which has had no isses with other wifi connections and worked on my S7 Phone so i am sure it is the new phone. I have had it a few months but never used the hotspot until now.
I've been having quite a similar issue, and this is the second time I get it on the same model! I guess this is a bug or an hardware problem related to the model. The only thing I noticed working, and it's not a security issue in my opinion, is the position where you keep it! try to holding it in your hand at different inclination , until you find the right position. the one I'm using right now works better when lying on a table, the previous one worked better in a standing, lightly tilted position, as you can see in th eimage
That is insane! I'll have to try a few things and I'll get back with results. Normally my phone is lying down on a table but I'll check a few positions. I have found that screen mirroring seems to have the same effect... as in it doesn't really work. I don't know if it is just data out when the issue arises as I don't have any problems downloading or streaming etc.
