Hi, thanks for this helpful guide! I have a question/problem, I did all this steps and the flash started but it got stuck at system.img for more than an hour so I canceled by holding Volume DOWN + Power button, now I have a message saying: an error occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the smartswitch pc software. I tried that but my device doesn't show up it just tells me to use it there too. I've retried flashing using the same version but still gets stuck at the same place. I am trying to download my original firmware I really hope it'll work.
Edit: I tried with original firmware and still got stuck at over 50% .
Edit2: I tried using a normal USB-C to USB cable and stock firmware worked

Yeah no problem mate, I was just desperate at the time xD

Anyone done this on a SM-N975u that has been bootloader unlocked and rooted?

Is the USERDATA file from the firmware really required? I am thinking of flashing the one UI 3.0 USC firmware ( SM-N975U) in SM-N975U1 and got USERDATA in the firmware i downloaded.

Is your Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 not working and needs recovering?
Dirty Flash
Download the stock firmware recovery from here (link taken from this page)
Extract md5 file from zip archive
Rename extracted file by removing the .md5 from the end. Not doing this will cause Odin to fail with "MD5 hash value is invalid".
Download and install Odin
Open Odin
Click the button "PDA"
Select the stock firmware you just downloaded and renamed
Wait a couple seconds for Odin to be ready
Boot device into download mode: 1)power off device 2)hold down volume down button and power button and home button at same time 3)when prompted, press power up button to continue
Connect device to computer with cable and wait couple seconds for Odin to be ready
In Odin press the "Start" button
Wait for Odin to complete, if successful you will see "PASS" at the top.

I did this and and it took 2 seconds. All of my data and settings were saved. If the device is stuck in an invalid state, wait for the battery to die and try again. The battery lasts around 6/7 hours. This is my first "tutorial" so feel free to comment and I'll make changes if somethings wrong or missing
Clean Flash
Some bugs may still persist, so after doing the dirty flash it is advisable to do a factory reset wipe the cache in recovery.
Turn off device
Enter recovery mode by holding volume up button and power button at same time (release when device begins to bootup)
Press volume down button until "wipe data/factory reset" is selected
Press power on button
Press volume down button until "Yes -- delete all user data" is selected
Press power button
Wait
Repeat steps 1 and 2 and select "wipe cache partition"

The procedure is correct. It is sometimes called a "dirty flash". It is called that because although all settings amnd data are retained there is a possibility that the bugs and errors of the previous firmware will also be there.
The best thing to do after doing this procedure is to "clean" the flash by factory reset and cache wipe in recovery. You will lose the settings and data but you end up with a pristine stock firmware.

For the factory reset do you use the one built into the system itself (found under settings) or do you boot into recovery mode and select "wipe data/factory reset"?

Disable auto reboot before flashing TWRP. When PASS is displayed on Odin, hold all of the hardware buttons on the phone, vol up, vol down, home (the one on the middle), power. When the download mode disappears release volume down and continue holding the rest.

Thanks that actually worked! But another problem emerged. The SuperSU file that I'm trying to flash makes my phone reboot in the middle of the installation.

Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed (recovery)
Hi,
Just tried flashing TWRP to my A5 2017, it got PASS with my first attempt but then gave me the No Command screen, from there I did a factory reset as per the instructions of the tutorial I was using and now, not only can I still not access TWRP and had my phone wiped but I can't even flash the TWRP as now it gives me the "Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed (recovery)" error. Are there any suggestions?
I have a Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 and I cannot install TWRP recovery in order to restore the backup of the different partitions, it gives me error = fail to open recovery_cause (no such file or directory) or custom binary (RECOVERY) blocked by FRP Lock.
If you install the firmware the phone always restarts up to the screen with No command, and if I press the power and vol + keys it gives the list of errors of the partitions / EFS, / System, etc. and error couldn't create verity device.
Can I do something to solve it? Can I recreate the original Recovery?
my problem is slightly different, at the no command screen, I press the power button and the volume + button, a screen appears with some writing, I attach photos, if I try to install twrp from the download screen I get the message: custom binary ( RECOVERY) blocked by FRP Lock.
If I could install twrp I have the backup of the partitions of the entire mobile phone.
So I don't know what to do.

Hey short question.
I reseted my Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) back to factory mode.
Few hours later, I charged my phone at my friends place.
I realize after a while that my phone wasn't charging fast enough.
I plug the calbe which belongt too my friend out of my phone.
Suddenly a Screen came up, which showed a notification .
It was telling me
something like : ,, Failed to Install program."
,, Build info: a5y17ltexx-user 8.0.0 R16NW A520FXXUGCTKA release-keys
Serial number: 52103d1dfcb0c391 ."
I forgot too make a screenshot of the notification, before closing the window. I saved the fail repot in my Mail-Acc .
So my question is now,
Is the reason for this report a problem, which came because of me doing the Factory-Reset (pherhaps a problem by updating the software or application)?
Or could it be possible that my friend tried to Install some kind of programmes onto my phone,
which failed downloading because of me unplugging my phone.

Hi everyone and thank you Bryan48765 for you solution. I flashed a twrp version and on the first restart it worked, but the next re-start it reverted back to the custom recovery. I'll try to flash a different twrp and see how it goes. also hoping to flash magisk & see how it goes. Thank you again. Forgot to add that this solution worked on a samsung Note 4 SM-N910f chinese motherboard.

Hi everyone,
Can you help with shedding light on what's on here and suggesting what could be done next? I have just bought another A5 2017.
Initially I started it, installed my email account, some applications, all seemed fine. After restarting I got a black screen with red letters indicating bypass FRP lock. Impossible to reboot the phone. So I installed Odin and I tried to reinstall the system. It worked.
The system was downloading updates when suddenly I got a "no command screen." Impossible to reach the boot, it's been 10 minutes or so that the phone just tries and restarts all the time, initiating with a "installing phone updates" to eventually show again the "no command" screen and so on.
Do you have any clue on what's going on ? What could be done at all from now on?

[Solved] Bricked my Redmi Note 8 Pro - trouble using SP Flash Tool

Hey, so at the end of August 2021 I unlocked my phone and flashed the official PixelExperience repository recommended in the wiki along with the 2021-08-24 version of PE (Android 11). Lated I read that to update it I need to do a clean flash so yesterday I went to the recovery and wiped /data, /system, /cache, basically all the 3 options there were, then flashed the latest PE ZIP via ADB sideload. Clicked reboot in the recovery and boom, phone bricked, doesn't react to any key combination, only has the charing LED when connecting to a charger or to PC via USB.
So I've done a little research and found the tutorial at
with this ZIP https://mega.nz/file/A4YSEZaA#0Jk3_jH8uVtMnATciVRtWw2r_SH0NPLq4P6SrGNuwJQ - followed it, but I get stuck on the last step with a red "Download DA 100%" bar at the bottom, which after 2 minutes yields an "ERROR : STATUS_EXT_RAM_EXCEPTION (0xC0050005)" popup.
I tried doing it like 7 times, I found somewhere that this error could be caused by a driver problem and one possible solution is to reinstall the driver. I wasn't sure which driver to reinstall so I just completed the whole procedure again on my different Windows 10 laptop, and it's the same problem. What can I be doing wrong?
I was trying to flash these two files (the "fastboot" versions, right?)

so the global and the EEA versions. The phone was bought in Poland (EU) so I assume one of them should be correct, right?

But you cant do it without tricks.
1/Error showed:
- Run bypass again (Runthis.bat)
- Connect your phone without press anything. Hold Power + volume up until Bypass success and release. Then quickly press Download on Sp flash tool
2/Error not show: Stuck at red DA 100% for more than 10s
- Press Stop
- Run bypass again (Runthis.bat)
- Connect your phone without press anything. Hold Power + volume up until Bypass success and release. Then quickly press Download on Sp flash tool
You need do it 2 times to work
(You dont need to add libusb again unless you change other port. Dont recognize can be solve by Power + volume up)

Thanks, love you man <3
The only problem I had was that I didn't know that you need to have the runthis.bat window focused or else it won't show updates (new lines), I had the SP Flash Tool window focused at first. After I figured this out though - following your instructions precisely, it worked flawlessly. Much thanks!!! <3

Partly bricked... SM-N975F

Hey guys.. Ive been a visitor in XDA forums for quite a while... And i been running root and custom FW with more or less every samsung from S2 and up...
But i just got my self a note10+ (atleast thats what ive been told) and i wanted to root it up and throw a custom FW on it to run in Samsung Dex...
So i succeded updating the FW. I unlocked the bootloader in dev. options. and unlocked it again in download mode by holding the vol. up. key!
But since then i had problems... every time i run a FW in Odin... Then if i dont get a error saying
SW REV. CHECK FAIL(BOOTLOADER) DEVICE: B BINARY 7
pit_flash_binary - Unsupported version
Then i succeds but when its going to erase everything after the reboot from download mode then it starts up and stops right after... And then i can only go recovery mode and download mode... How do i just write the correct firmware and have it start up like normal... just wanna undo it all... Do i need some kind of samsung support software in windows? and how do i know if it is a note10+ ... Even though download mode says SM-N975F... But still i get error when i flash a FW downloaded with Frija for that model...
Hope to get some help
oh btw... it connects as this when im in download mode:
"Checking Connected Devices: SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem #2 ( COM12 )"
is that normal?
bump?
Hey there,
SW REV. CHECK FAIL(BOOTLOADER) DEVICE: 8 BINARY 7

This, as far as I understand just means that the bootloader on your phone is on a newer version than the one in the firmware you're trying to flash. Usually flashing just stops there.
Then i succeds but when its going to erase everything after the reboot from download mode then it starts up and stops right after...

You COULD try to simply boot into recovery and wipe the device once, the phone would usually do that on its own but sometimes fails. Mind describing what exactly happens?
how do i know if it is a note10+ ... Even though download mode says SM-N975F...

For that, you either need the original packaging or just trust on what Odin-mode is telling you.
But still i get error when i flash a FW downloaded with Frija for that model...

I kinda don't trust Frija. For me, Bifrost always worked like a charm. Use it to download the firmware for your SM-N975F and give it your correct region code.
For flashing, some people use Heimdall, I think Odin is pretty simple (as far as simplicity in modding goes).
By the way, if all fails, you could try installing LineageOS 19.1, throw in openGAPPS for Googles apps and Magisk/Lygisk for root (if needed).
Good luck and have fun!
Cheers!
I found out i got EXACKLY the same issue as the guy writing on this thread:
Need help with semi-bricked Note 10 Plus (SM-N975F) - Stuck on recovery/download mode
Didn't know where to post this exactly, to be honest. This will be a long post I was flashing AOSP roms in the phone. Tried to go back to One UI for the VoLTE thing In one of the AOSP roms I couldn't install it in Lineage Recovery (older version...

Already tryed still nothing... But what happens after a 100% succes in Odin is:
Then it reboots and after a few secs it says "Erasing device" for like 0.5 sec... And then it only goes black screen... At black screen then i can only go download mode if i press both volume buttons at the same time for 1 sec. Or recovery mode if i press vol up and power. And thats only if i have a USB-C connected ofcourse.
And whats the issue is... when it stops erasing the device... Why does it stops after 0.5 secs? it normally goes like 2-5 secs ... But also ... After it stops and in black screen... If i continue into download mode and open up the bootloader then...

I been around TWRP, Original recovery and Lineage recovery... But as the guy writes on the other thread. Then it shows 0 MB on the data partition, and i have to format it before it shows up again with 223 (or something)GB again...
Hey there,
Could you try switching file systems around? TWRP lets you format your partitions with stuff like ext4, f2fs and some other file systems. On several custom ROMs, the file system sometimes is the difference between a system working or bootlooping.
Good luck and have a nice day.
Cheers!
Already tryed exfat and f2fs and then back to ext4
I might have found a solution
I tried to update firmware N9750 android 11 to android 12 with (Ap file + odin patched). I don't flash bl ,cp,csc files . the phone screen shows a software error, need to open the smart switch software on the computer to recover. I open the smart switch on the computer and it does not recognize the phone. odin patched still recognizes the phone is connected. i reset odin and flashed 1 BL file. phone booted again with bootloader + AP file is android12. and modem and csc are android 11
1: Try flash combination firmware?
2 : Try download firmware stock new bootloader
Download odin patched
Try flash firmware files one by one
restart phone go download mode flash file BL ..done
restart phone go download mode flash file AP
restart phone go download mode flash file CP
restart phone go download mode flash file CSC
If ok flash full 5 file
sorry my english is not good
someone could help please?
