I recently purchased a 2005 CDI and I gotta say I love this car. The COMAND is solid but definitely outdated. I started looking around for drop-in head units and found the 2 big players Avin and Dynavin for the W211. No looking at older posts (2018 and before) i hear a lot of people beating up on the units because they are Chinese made. But present-day it seems like there have been strides and upgrades in chips that are being used. So I'm wondering is there really going to be a noticeable sound difference between a Bluetooth-connected 3.5 mm adapter going through the command and a properly tuned Avin or Dynavin unit going through a MOST adapter to a factory amp and speakers? Looking at XDA it seems like the chips used in the AVIN is TDA7851F (I am waiting on confirmation on this from AVIN). The TDA7851 is actually the same as a pioneer chip (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/a...2171s.3891089/). The Dynavin is a burr-brown (or Texas Instrument chipset) now I'm not sure how plays with the most adapter. But in the end, it seems like the hardware is there for improved sounds. Does anyone on here have objective data to swing the conversation one way or another?
The other question is longevity, I've heard the Dynavin units generally have generally received pretty decent reviews and have pretty decent support. I have not heard anything from long-term owners of the Avin. If there are any on here have your units functioned long term?

Just a heads up if your thinking of getting the AS851 to sit your phone on the front mounted holder your in for a surprise unfortunately I have had this unit for 4 months now, whilst the unit is quite good for some reason My Xperia s and My HOX wont clip onto the unit and stay there, the USB port seems to be recessed into the phone a few mm to much for the dock to grad it properly, all 5 of my other Android phones are perfect but these two just wont play ball
Yeh reviews seem poor for it especially as it uses Bluetooth 2.1 and does not support APT-X, one of the reviews said sound quality was better through the headphone jack to aux jack, kind of defeats the purpose of just docking it....
Didn't buy one after reading them.

Yes just wanted a dock to charge my Andoid phone so was on the lookout as I didn’t want 5 different charging docks but I did want something better than just the cable charge method.
For me I personally think the sound is fairly good, lots of presence and quite tight base too and would rate it about 7/10 compared to sound docks I have listened to in the past, for the money its ment to retail for which I think is about the £180 mark I would defiantly stay well clear, but I was really lucky and picked it for £35 brand spanker from a guy who had been bought for his birthday present but unluckily for him he had an iPhone so it wasn’t any good … so he stuck it on ebay.
That was a great price so well done.

ok so my dad was looking for a bt speaker about a month ago and i stumbled across the TDK Q35 while checking out Qi chargers and bt speaker. i told him to take a look and he ended up gettign the A33... well he didin't need the Qi and the A33 was supposed to be an outdoor speaker (though the Q35 may fair just as well as it has seals over the ports, it wasn't advertised as outdoors that i can remember) so i recieved the Q35 for for christmas and figured Qi would be a nice addition over the A33...
both are very good speakers... i think i give the A33 the edge. i mean a lay person may say the opposite. the Q35 has more range and the boomyness of the ported woofer can be tuned out of it with an EQ app but there is a certain level of detail and accuracy the A33 has. things like snare drum hits are more life like.
the Q35 also has a little bit of an annoyance. the unit tends to lock the phones screen when charging like those cases with flip cover that will sleep the phone.. you have to put the phone down diagonally to avoid this. people with the gs4 complain about the same thing i'm not sure if this is a feature, is that supposed to work on magnetism? or is it an RFID thing? maybe stray magnetism from the speakers is causing it if it's a magnetism thing. the Qi also heats the phone more than my samsung and $18 chinese chargers though i'm not sure what the reason for thins would be. i may need to log the temps with an app. also it's easy to turn the unit off unintentionally. i think i would recommend the A33 first but if you want Qi the Q35 isn't bad though it could use a couple revisions (TDK are you listening?).
either way i think if anyone is looking at a beats pill or other BT speaker, maybe they should look into TDK. it may not have the latest and greatest with BT protocols but with a small speaker you probably don't need the most hifi source because lets be honest, how good do you think those little speakers can really reproduce uncompressed audio? these TDK speakers are about the best small speakers i've heard and they are probably not good enough to tell 96k 24bit audio from whatever this is running (i might have to pull some logs to figure that out.. maybe another day).

This one has already the Audi/VW main-connector right at the radio, also a twin fakra connector and even an integrated CAN-modul. So there will be way less wiring spaghetti behind the unit, which seems really nice to me.
But i am a bit afraid, that the radio reception could be bad...
I don´t really trust this ex China-factory twin Fakra connector there. Usually one had to use a external powered antenna boost-adapter for those android head units. And even with those boost-adapters, the reception was never as good, as with the original radio. Because no adapter could replace the twin-receiver diversity function of the original VW/Audi radios.
Sooo....
With this new unit, i would have to directly connect my antennas... without any adapters or boosters...
Has anyone an idea if this really works well on those new units??

In theory it should be better with a port for the diversity antenna as well. At the end of the day this is the main reason why the original radio has better reception.
I've got the Erisin ES3015V which I suspect is similar (it has the same VW-specific connections). I have never owned any other android head unit, so I can't compare the radio reception, but I can tell you that it's not as good as the original radio. My guess is it's somewhere in between.

Sorry, don't know if it's powered or not, but I'd be very interested in hearing about your findings .I haven't noticed the sound from the rear speakers being too low, but then again, sound quality overall isn't exactly brilliant. I've been thinking about adding a powered subwoofer, but I've read a lot of stuff on here about these units being underpowered on the RCA outputs, so I'm not sure if it'll be worth it.
Anyone have on they can recommend? Do they all work or are there certain things to look out for?

As with many things created, there are worse and better ones. Usually, the more expensive the better. Look for one with these specs: 384khz-32bit. You may not have music which can utilize that spec but generally, this cable will be of higher quality than cables spec'd with lower values such as 192khz-24bit. If you're shopping on "Nozama", your best bet is to look at the star ratings and how many people rate the cable. The more 5 and 4 star ratings, and more importantly, the less 1 star ratings, the higher the chances of the product being a great item. But I'm sure you already knew that. Let me know which cable you go with, I'm looking for one as well.
There are many different ones to choose from, not only for quality of sound but also some may have a more neutral works signature, others may be more warm, etc...

I have pretty expensive iem so I splurged on a pretty good dongle. I mean it really depends.

I tend to use my Sony WH-1000XM3 most of the time. I just wanted something for occasional use of a pair of Blon BL03 I received earlier this year. It's more for convenience and to have the ability to use either when I want to.
As far as audiophile listening goes, I don't think either are to high up there.
I had to buy the original for it to work in my car and also the external mic. Google is pulling an Apple...
AS gar as i know only the ones following the usb-c standart with an integrated da converter work. Most really cheap Chinese ones are Just cable adapter. Because huwawei etc integrated the da into their phones. Which ist actually Not usb-c compliant.
I find the stock Google one to be terrible and does not output enough volume. There are definitely better options but they are far more than 10 bucks.
Don't waste your money for others
The Tempotec Sonata HD Pro is super high quality for the price, if you can live with its form-factor. Because this dongle is a small metal box and not an inline cable adapter, I wouldn't use it while walking around or working out. For desktop / bedside / airplane kind of use it is great. It's available from Amazon for < $40 and probably from other sellers as well.
If you need to use the headphones while your phone is in your pocket and you're walking around, one of the best inline dongles is actually Apple's USB-C Audio Adapter. Note that the Apple dongle has a fairly low maximum volume when used on Android phones, so if you buy one make sure you can return it. In addition to the Pixel 5-only dongle problem, I have a second requirement. My Samsung S7 has, of course, a 3.5 mm socket - no dongle needed. Which means, and this one matters, I can use an external bettery pack to keep the phone going and still usable at the end of the day.
Does any P5 dongle meet this requirement, too?
I looked at the Tempotec review and discussion. There's a comment about a microUSB socket on the dongle. I'm waiting for my application for access to Head-fi to come through.
In the meantime, does anyone know of a dongle that also allows charging the P5 while a headphone dongle is attached?

It allows me to charge the device while listening to music. I use it to connect to a boombox that supplies power to the device. The boombox is not a Hi-Fi device so I don't need a fancy external DAC. This one sounds fine on the boombox. Great for any old device that doesn't have Bluetooth.
The Apple one is best bang for buck and audio quality if you like a nice flat freq response.
I just finished reading this review on the Galaxy S21 FE and noticed it doesn't have a headphone jack. I'm okay with that as long as the USB-C port supports analog audio output to cheapo USB-C earphones.
So my question: Is analog audio output via USB-C supported? Or is this device like a Pixel phone and requires more expensive earphones with a DAC chip built into them?

Only digital. The dongle has to have a DAC in it or whatever audio device you are connecting it to. The Samsung one works fine except it's hanging from the bottom of the phone... not good.

Thanks. Yeah, that's a deal breaker. I really like using cheapo earphones at work, whether they be 3.5mm jack or USB-C (analog). Having DAC outside the phone is cumbersome and Bluetooth earphones are too much fuss.

The Buds+ sound better or as good as cheap earbuds or phones. They're light, don't come out and have a long run time.
Not perfect but pretty good... Samsung should have kept the 3.5 jack.
Dropping the SD card slot in their recent flagship phones lost them my purchase. Got another new Note 10+ instead.
In 2-3 years if they continue to chase Apple... they are dead to me.

I agree. This whole 3.5 jack non-issue is proving to be the most frustrating "progress" that manufacturers have made. Let's not forget that at first, the sole reason that Apple did this was because the jack "did not fit". Apparently all other manufacturers realized the same thing although they have no problem in making phones bigger than 6.7 inches. Nowadays it's just an excuse to sell expensive gear to people and these wireless buds do not solve the problem. I have perfectly good headphones that do not require charging and that do not fall out of my ears but I cannot listen to them no matter what I do. Dongles are crap quality with background noise and there's nothing you can do about it. It's funny but a few years ago, you actually felt that phones were capable of doing everything but now... not so much.

I totally get why the removal of a space consuming century old standard 3.5mm jack happened, but why the removal of internal DAC for analog audio out via USB-C? I like to have earplugs which can dangle from my shirt while I'm not talking on my phone. I used Bluetooth for a while but they got neglected because I always forgot to take them out of my toolbag and charge them. Also, they couldn't dangle from my shirt because of the no wires thing. How much extra does it cost to manufacture a phone with internal DAC via USB-C?
I have no idea honestly. Whenever I try to think of a logical answer, it always boils down to marketing and reducing costs of manufacturing while also making more money from accessories. They are trying so hard to push these wireless buds to customers that they would do anything so that we spend more money on them or on the accessories for wired headphones. Just look at the S21 FE, the pre-order came with buds included. The new P50 PRO from Huawei, also pushed the wireless earphones with it's offer. And people still hate these dang things but somehow they don't care. At this rate I'm going back to physical mp3's )
Give Samsung tech support some feedback on how you're loving it all.
